  • Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt agree to settle divorce in private

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt agree to settle divorce in private

Following backlashes from fans, it appears that estranged Hollywood duo; Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have decided to keep their divorce process and child custody tussle private.
Reports say the actors, who jointly released a press statement on Monday have agreed to keep future details of their divorce confidential by using a private judge as they work to ‘reunify’ the family.
Pitt and Jolie were married for two years and together for 12 years until in September last year, when Jolie cited irreconcilable differences as the reason she is pulling out.
“The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues,” their statement read.
“The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification.”
The statement is the first joint comment from the actors on their divorce since Jolie filed to end their marriage.
Custody of their six children has been the primary issue in the divorce, with Jolie initially seeking sole physical custody while Pitt wanted joint custody.
The actors’ romance began while filming 2005’s Mr & Mrs Smith.
Their divorce, and every filing in it, has attracted international attention. Last month, Pitt sought to seal custody records in the case, and a hearing had been scheduled for next week on the issue.
Both actors have kept a relatively low profile since their breakup was announced, although Pitt made an appearance onstage at Sunday’s Golden Globes to spirited applause.
Private judges are often used in high-profile divorce cases, keeping many details of a breakup out of the public eye while a final judgment is negotiated.

  • Husband seeks divorce for wife’s alleged stubbornness, arrogance

A 36-year-old man, Samson Ebiniyi, yesterday urged an Ikorodu Customary Court in Lagos, to dissolve his 10-year-old marriage to Modinat, for alleged stubbornness and arrogance.

Ebiniyi, who resides at 7, Otunla Str., Majidun, Ikorodu, Lagos, also cited lack of motherly care for their four children as reasons for the dissolution.

At the resumed hearing, the petitioner told the court that he was fed up with Modinat’s ways.

“Modinat has become used to not sleeping at home and does not care if her actions hurt me or the children.

“I cannot continue to tolerate her stubbornness toward me and her arrogance toward other people, especially my neighbours,’’ he told the court.

Corroborating the husband’s claim, the petitioner’s witness, Happiness Otunla, said that Modinat was stubborn and adamant and had allegedly refused to heed several pieces of advice to stop her bad behaviour.

“Samson is like a son to me and he usually reports his wife to me and I have corrected Modinat many times to no avail.

“But, I beg this court to settle them instead and make peace reign in their home,’’ Otunla pleaded with the court.

Otunla, who was cross-examined by Modinat’s uncle, Mr Gbade Akintotu, told the court that both parties had at different times committed acts likely to breach the peace of the marriage.

“The two of them owe each other apologies for wrong done against each other as husband and wife.

“It will be in the interest of the children for Samson and Modinat to remain as husband and wife,’’ Otunla testified.

While one of the Modinat’s witnesses, Jimoh Babatunde, said that the children of the marriage would suffer psychologically trauma should the court grants the application.

“We in the compound, where Samson lives, know how the children love their parents.

But, Modinat, in her defence, told the court that the petitioner did not show her enough love, saying that her husband was in the habit of threatening to divorce her at the slightest provocation.

The President of the court, Mrs Omolara Abiola, however, urged the couples to maintain peace pending the determination of the case.

She said that adjourned dated would be communicated to all the parties after this court receives vital information that would help it to settle this matter.  (NAN).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Jamiu Adewunmi had approached the Igando Customary Court, Lagos State for the dissolution of his 24-year-old marriage to Kehinde, his wife.

He alleged that Kehinde had converted to Christianity from Islam without his consent.

“I am ready to make amends wherever I might have made mistakes; I am not ready to divorce my husband.

“I still love him and besides, I do not want my children to suffer this action because they are innocent. Please, safe e my marriage,” the mother of four said.

The husband and petitioner, Jamiu, 57, a businessman, had accused his wife of converting to Christianity without his consent in his petition before the court.

“My wife was always telling me that she was going for an Islam programme called ‘Alasalatu’, instead she would secretly go to a church to worship.

“I got to know when I broke into her room in her absence because, lately, she was always locking the room and would keep its key closed to her chest.

“So, I was curious to know what she was hiding in the room.

“When I entered her room, I saw pictures where she wore a gown and cap belonging to one of the white garment churches.

“In the pictures, she posed with some other worshipers wearing the same uniform.

“I don’t want her anymore because, I cannot condole another religion in my house except the one I am practicing,” he said.

He accused his wife of not cooking for him regularly and whenever she did, the food would come late.

“Kehinde had failed in her matrimonial obligations.

“I had warned her several times but she wouldn’t listen to me. There is no point harbouring a wife that makes me hungry,” the estranged husband said.

He urged the court to dissolve the marriage that he was no longer in love.
