    A 32-year-old woman, Kate Ude, has prayed an FCT High Court in Jabi to dissolve her four-year-old marriage to Mr. Michael Ude, for alleged erectile dysfunction.

    Part of the petitioner’s prayers before Justice Vera Venda was to declare that there’s no longer love in the marriage.

    Kate alleged that Ude  suffers from erectile dysfunction, adding that anytime it became erect, he ejaculated within a few seconds, “which is not expected of a real man.”

    She said the man did not make known his health status before the consummation of the marriage in Calabar, Cross River, in 2014.

    The petitioner said during her traditional wedding, Michael did not show up, as he was represented by his younger brother.

    Kate said it was at the registry she got to know him well and implored the court to dissolve the union.

    Ude, who filed a cross-petition to divorce the woman, denied the allegations when cross-examined by the petitioner’s lawyer, Mr. Ishaka Awaliene.

    He said: “The non-erection of my manhood is not regular; it is just that I’m not always in the mood whenever she is in the mood. I don’t use enhancement drugs for sex as she alleged.’’

    Ude told the court that on June 28, 2014, Kate left their matrimonial home, saying she was no longer interested in the marriage.

    According to him, she returned and left again.

    He said his relations made efforts to reconcile them, but she refused and resorted to insulting them through text messages.

    Justice Venda adjourned the matter till February 6 for adoption of final written addresses.

    A 60-year old woman, Helen Odiazor, has cried for justice, following the alleged killing of her son, Melody, the same night her husband died.

    Police Commissioner Babatunde Kokumo has invited the Divisional Police Officer of Saint Saviour Police Station and members of the vigilance group, who allegedly killed Melody.

    The deceased, a tipper driver apprentice, was said to have been killed by members of the vigilance group at Tipper garage, on Saint Saviour Road, about 9pm when he was returning home after being informed about his father’s death.

    He was said to have been shot dead with two other boys.

    His mother, Helen, who was in tears, said it was painful for her to lose her husband and son the same day.

    She said her husband died in a hospital on November 8, and she was informed about her son’s death the same day.

    The woman said her son was heading home on hearing about his father’s death when he was allegedly killed by members of the vigilance group.

    She insisted that her son was not a robber.

    The deceased’s sister, Rachel, said policemen told the family that her brother was not dead, but being treated for gunshot injuries.

    She said the police refused to disclose the hospital or take the family to the hospital where he was being treated.

    Kokumo said he had invited the parties to a meeting for briefing.

    He said the impression given the police was that members of the vigilance group had an encounter with robbers, adding that another information had emerged about the killing.

    A divorcee, Hajara Usman, on Monday sued her former husband before an Upper Area Court in Karu, Abuja for stopping her from re-marrying.

    Usman, residing in Asokoro, Abuja told the court that she got married to one Adamu Abdullahi in 2011 but that they got divorced through Islamic way in 2016.

    She said that while the marriage lasted, Abdullahi tortured her at the slightest provocation.

    “My parents actually forced me to marry him. I never loved him and when I got into the marriage, I discovered that Abdullahi was ill-tempered.

    “He usually beats me up whenever he is angry and his parents and mine warned him severally to stop it but he did not heed their advice.’’

    Usman said that Abdullahi divorced her in November 2016, compelling her to leave his house immediately after pronouncing `divorce’ three times in line with Islamic injunction.

    “I have long observed my compulsory Idah (waiting) period but my ex-husband has refused to allow me to marry other suitors coming for me.’’

    She told the court that having finished observing the waiting period, two men had at different times indicated interest to marry her.

    Usman said that the moment her former husband got wind of her wedding plans and the ceremony that followed, he came to the venue and disrupted the ceremony.

    “ In April this year, the man who first indicated interest to marry me came to perform the wedding rites, my ex-husband sent a group of boys to disrupt the ceremony.

    “ On another occasion, when he heard I was about to re-marry, he way-laid me and beat me up so much that I had to plead with him.

    “On the day he beat me, he said he was beating me so that no man would desire me since I decided to move on and re-marry almost immediately.”

    She pleaded with the court to compel her former husband to explain why he would not want her to re-marry because his actions had discouraged her suitors.

    Usman also pleaded with the court to divorce her and Abdullahi formally and legally, saying that she no longer had interest in Abdullahi.

    “ I want the court to issue us a divorce certificate and restrain him from coming close to me,’’ Usman pleaded.

    Reacting to the statement of his former wife, Abdullahi, who also resides in Asokoro, said that it was true that they were no longer married.

    He said that his grouse was that his former wife came to the court to tell lies against him.

    “ Since I divorced her, according to the tenets of our religion, I had nothing to do with her.

    “I have avoided her and her family because the marriage was arranged between our parents and we were never meant for each other,’’ he said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the estranged couple has no child from the marriage.

    The Judge, Mr Abdullahi Baba, adjourned the matter until Nov. 1 for the plaintiff to come to court with at least two persons, who witnessed the disruption of her marriage rites.

    Baba said that a divorce certificate would be issued to the parties at the completion of the case since there was no more love between them and they had also been living apart.

    He, however, urged the parties to maintain peace since they lived in the same neighbourhood.

    Owobi, who lives at 42, Musiliu Street, Oko-Oba, Agege, is being detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at Panti, Yaba, Lagos Mainland.

    The suspect was in the habit of beating the woman he had lived with for 15 years

    According to a source, after killing the woman, the man ran to the station to report that his wife drank sniper. The source said he warned his kids to corroborate his story.

    But the children, it was gathered, confided in their landlord and other neighbours that their father beat their mother all night that she could no longer talk.

    The source said the neighbours did not believe him that she committed suicide because they heard her crying for help all night.

    Owobi, it was gathered, claimed that he had prevented his wife from committing suicide earlier that day. He alleged that he did not know she went back and took the sniper hours later.

    Following the children’s claim that he forced them to say their mother took sniper, his neighbours went back to the police station to counter his report.

    An autopsy has shown that the deceased suffered internal injuries and died of trauma.

    The suspect’s landlord, who refused to be named, said: “I suspected some lies in Owobi’s earlier statement because we heard his wife crying all night. So when he said that she drank sniper, I doubted him. I later took his kids to a corner where I asked them what happened to their mother. True to my suspicion, the children said that their father had instructed them to say that their mum drank poison.

    “With this information, I took the oldest of them aside and asked him to narrate what happened in detail. The boy who is about 13-year-old said that his father beat up their mother all through the night.”

    Lagos Command Spokesman Olarinde Famous-Cole, an Assistant Superintendent (ASP), said autopsy showed that the woman died of trauma.

    Famous-Cole said the deceased suffered internal injuries and fractures from the beating she received.

    He said: “The suspect killed his wife and still went to the station to report that the deceased was found lying dead on the floor in their room. He claimed that his wife drank snipper, but investigation revealed that the suspect beat up the wife to death. Seeing that she was dead, he called his kids and told them to say she drank sniper if anyone asked them how she died.”
