  • Buhari inaugurates projects in Ogun

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday in Abeokuta inaugurated some projects executed by the outgoing governor of Ogun, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.

The projects are the Ogun Judicial Complex, along Kobape Road, the 10,000 – seater capacity Amphil-Theatre at Oke-Ilewo, the Campala/Adire mall at Itoku and the Ogun Television Digital Studio along Ajebo Road.

The president also inspected the 250-bed ultra-modern hospital at Oke-Mosan.

At the commissioning of the Judicial Complex, Buhari described the projects as first class and in tune with international standard.

Buhari who emphasized the importance of infrastructure in socio-economic development, commended Amosun for saving and committing resources to infrastructure development.

He said that the projects and the way Amosun had christened them were suggestive of the fact that the governor had prepared ahead of the day he would leave office.

“Judging from the projects that I have seen and the name that the governor has given them (legacy projects), I think he has prepared himself ahead to leave office.

“I congratulate him for having the foresight and saving resources to put the infrastructure in place to ensure his footprints remain permanent,” he said.

Buhari noted that God had elevated Amosun with his victory at the Feb. 23, Senatorial polls in the state during which he won the Ogun Central Senatorial seat.

He expressed hope that Amosun would use the platform to further serve the people of Ogun in particular and Nigerians in general.

In his opening remarks, Amosun commended Buhari for coming to the state for the event in spite of his tight schedules particularly in the Ramadan period.

Amosun who recalled that Buhari laid the foundation of the Judicial Complex in February 2016, explained that the projects were made possible because of the enormous support Ogun enjoyed from the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

“We are grateful to the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for considering our great state for the execution and implementation of many projects and policies.

“President Buhari has done very well not just for us in Ogun but for Nigeria as a whole.

“We want to thank you for the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Rail line which passes through Ogun.

“We appreciate the economic policies of the Federal Government which has affected Ogun positively,’’ he said.

Amosun who declared that he had transformed Ogun to an enviable height, appreciated the people for their support throughout his tenure.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Judge of Ogun, Mosunmola Dipeolu, noted that the present judicial headquarters in Isabo had become archaic, having served the state for over 40 years.

According to her, the new complex provides great facilities and improved environment for adjudication.

  • My administration attracted 423 mega industries, grew IGR from N700m to N7bn – Amosun

Out -going Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Thursday disclosed his administration attracted 423 mega industries and over 1,000 medium and small scale industries  in the last eight years.

Amosun revealed further that on assumption of office in 2011, he met Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N700 million monthly and nurtured it to the tune of N7b monthly.

The Governor, who made this known  at the official launch of Ogun State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency (OgunInvest) at the MITROS Hotel and Residences, Abeokuta, the state capital, said that feat catapulted Ogun state out of the economic abyss to number two in terms of revenue generation and number five in the ease of doing business index in Nigeria.

Amosun, who was represented at the launch by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Taiwo Adeoluwa, said his government also tackled all the issues that hitherto, turned Ogun into a “pariah state” in terms of economic development and growth.

He said OgunInvest would serve as a one-stop shop for would-be investors in the state and also serves as an interface between the government and the investors.

According to him, the agency  would also ensure sustainability of his administration’s economic policies and programmes in order to place the state on irreversible path of rapid and steady socioeconomic growth.

He noted  that though the Agency was established by Executive Order to facilitate both net worth  investment and  small businesses, his administration had forwarded an executive bill to the House of Assembly for the Agency to be backed by extant law to ensure continuity and sustainability.

“The Agency was established by Executive Order, but an executive bill has been forwarded to the House of Assembly to pass the bill into law, so that it can be sustained and continued by the next administration. The Agency christened OgunInvest is meant to facilitate inter-governmental relationship and equally to streamline investment activities in the state.

Amosun said: “OgunInvest will also serve as a friend of business within government; and this has been broadened to ensure that successes recorded by our government in the area of investment are sustained. As at now, our GDP and economy are growing faster that the national average. We have also attracted over 75% of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Nigeria to our state.

“In terms of IGR, we are only second to Lagos State and we even plan to overtake the state. So in order to put Ogun on the path of irreversible economic growth and development, we have established this agency, to ensure we move the state further on high economic pedestal and improve our rating in the ease of doing business index.”

Also, the Consultant to the state government on OgunInvest, Fehintola Odulaja, expressed the confidence that  the economic project would ensure wholesome development of Ogun through series of incentives directed at wooing more investors to the state.

  • Crowds thin out in govt houses

The crowds around some of the outgoing state governors are fast thinning out with only 12 days to their exit from office and the  inauguration of their successors.

Eleven of the 36 states will have new helmsmen on May 29.

They are Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Imo, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ogun, Oyo and Yobe.

Our  correspondents reported yesterday from Yola, Owerri and Ilorin that the hustle and bustle characteristic of most government houses across the country has slowed down with the imminent change of guards.

But the situation is a bit different in Ibadan and Abeokuta where visitors still continue to besiege  Governors Abiola Ajimobi and Ibikunle Amosun’s offices to see them.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has come under severe criticism in the last few weeks  over his appointment of Prof.  Kenneth Adeyemi as acting vice chancellor of the State University (KWASU), Malete, two months to the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’Allah.

Students and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the institution as well as the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) and the Governing Council of the university  have all protested against the governor’s decision.

When the outgoing governor recently swore in two new Justices of the State High Court, Justices Olalekan Moses Adegbite and Hammed Aliyu Gegele, and two Kadis of the state Sharia Court of Appeal, Sharafu Hannafi and Abdulraheem Sayi, the ceremony went almost unnoticed.

Attendance  was low and the pomp and ceremony that usually go with such events were missing.

My friends, associates intact, says Ahmed

But the Special Assistant to Governor Ahmed on media and communications, Dr Muyideen Akorede, denied that friends and associates had deserted his principal.

He said  Ahmed’s  closeness to his friends, associates and aides remains  sacrosanct.

Besides, Akorede said the governor, cabinet and other aides are still working.

“His circle of friends also preceded his becoming governor and is still intact and strong,” he said.

He added: “Bear in mind that his friends also have their work and business which they need to attend to. So it’s untrue that Gov Ahmed’s friends and aides are thinning out.”

    Okorocha’s allies switching camps

Many associates of Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State are switching camps as he battles the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the release of his Certificate of Return in respect of the  Imo West Senatorial election.

His camp believes he was betrayed by some of  those he trusted during the last election.

Trouble started in the camp of the Imo governor shortly after he made open his decision to support his then Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, as his successor against his Deputy, Eze Madumere.

Shortly after then, the disappointed Deputy Governor formed a formidable coalition known as the Imo Coalition against the governor with other close aides, including the then Secretary to the State Governor, Sir George Eche.

Thereafter, the camp of the governor continued to deplete, especially after his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), denied his choice candidate the governorship ticket and gave it to a new comer in the party, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

During the elections proper, some of those that pretended to still be with the governor sabotaged him and worked against his choice of successor, Nwosu, who eventually contested under the Action Alliance (AA).

Soon after the governorship election result was announced in favour of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Government House which used to be a beehive of activities began to be deserted.

Some of Okorocha’s supporters  have allegedly  confessed to diverting campaign funds given to them by the governor  to work for the PDP, all in a bid to worm their way into the heart of the governor-elect.

The governor on Friday hosted Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who commissioned many legacy projects executed by the Okorocha administration.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, said that Okorocha’s political family is still intact.

He described the reported defection of the governor’s loyalists and political associates as mere speculation.

He said: “There is no need for any of us – governor’s appointees- to leave now.

“Members of the Rescue Mission administration are like one big family and the governor, as the head of the family, has been nice to all of us. I can tell you that we are still intact and there is no cause for alarm.”

In a separate  interview, the media aide to the governor-elect, Mr. Chibuike Onyeukwu, said  that the influx of people into the camp of Ihedioha was on account of  his promise to run a people-oriented government.

“Naturally, people are responding to the people-oriented government promised by the governor-elect. It is a celebrated mandate and the job of rebuilding Imo is a collective responsibility.

“So I will say that these reasons informed the influx of people into the team of the governor-elect,” he said.

  • Hoodlums raid Ogun APC Secretariat

    •Vital documents carted away

Hoodlums on Wednesday night broke into the Ogun State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress(APC) on Abiola Way, Abeokuta. They carted away vital documents.

The state Chairman of APC loyal to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Chief Derin Adebiyi , who takes custody of the secretariat, told reporters that all offices and floors in the two-storey building were  raided by the suspected  hoodlums.

Adebiyi explained that the hoodlums also destroyed properties such as air conditioners, television sets and chairs in the offices.

He stressed that the air conditioners and televisions were mere  decoys  to mask motives, as none of them were taken away from the complex, except documents.

Adebiyi, who took reporters round the facility, added that  the hoodlums gained entry through the rooftop of each of the offices ransacked.

Adebiyi said the intention of the vandals remained unknown but suspicious.

He said it might not be unconnected with an attempt to destabilise the party as Governor Ibikunle Amosun winds down his administration.

He said: “The attack was massive and destructive. All offices were broken into, including those of the chairman, the state secretary, the organising secretary, among others.

“The Ogun State APC chapter condemns the incident in the strongest terms as barbaric and uncalled for. This trend is worrisome as it is believed that the incident targeted at destabilising activities of the party as the governor winds down.

“We wish to state that the Ogun State chapter of APC is a peaceful and law-abiding political party. Our party believes in the rule of law and due process.  In this regards, the party has reported the matter to the security agencies for investigation

  • Absence of Ogun SSG stalls Abiodun transition Committee’s meeting with Amosun’s team

The scheduled meeting between Dapo Abiodun’s 15 -member Transition Committee chaired by the Deputy Governor – elect, Engr. Noimot Salako – Oyedele, and that of Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s team was stalled on Tuesday following the unavailability of a key member of the Governor’s team

The Nation learnt that the meeting has since been slated for Tuesday at Oke – Mosan Governor’s Office, Abeokuta but Abiodun’s team who had already prepared for it, suddenly received a message around 7:a. m that the meeting would no longer hold as earlier scheduled.

The first meeting of the two groups took place on April 29 and was billed to meet again for the second time but it got stalled.

It was learnt that the meeting was postponed till another date in future because the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Taiwo Adeoluwa, who chairs the Amosun’s eleven member interface team was not around.

“He travelled abroad,” a source close to Dapo Abiodun’s Transistion Committee told The Nation.

“Abiodun team got a message this morning at 7am for a meeting that has been scheduled since last week.  I am not sure the SSG just traveled.

“Isn’t it a joke that a meeting that has to do with a change of government cannot hold because an individual member was not around. Are you saying there is no other person that could stand in for the SSG?,” the source said.

The Nation put a call to Adeoluwa for reactions on why the meeting couldn’t hold as planned, but he said was not “around,” disclosing that he has travelled abroad.

The SSG however noted that the meeting would hold next week – probably, when he returns from his trip abroad.

  • Amosun clears deductions, April salary with N20.2bn payment

Amid low turnout of workers that almost marred the 2019 edition of May Day celebration in Ogun State, out – going Governor Ibikunle Amosun cleared all outstanding deductions owed the workers and also paid their April salary.

Amosun also announced that new set of staff (about 1000 of them) have been recruited into the state workforce, just less than 30 days to leave office.

The May Day celebration was without the usual enthusiasm in Ogun, and MKO stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta,  was scanty and looked pathetic unlike what obtained in the past as more of the workers  shunned the May Day celebration while the few that turned – up, wore forlorn and mournful look.

It was not until  the Governor mounted the dais and assured them that by tomorrow (Thursday), he would pay N10.1bn outstanding deductions and also settle all salaries totaling N10.1bn to the workers, that a modicum of enthusiasm could be elicited from some them.

Others remained largely unmoved and skeptical. One of the workers, who pleaded anonymity, told The Nation that the low turnout of workers should be expected, given the serial ill – treatment of them and the organised labour unions in the state.

But notwithstanding, the Governor  declared that from tomorrow (Thursday), they would all receiving alerts for all deductions and full gross April salary, totaling N20.2bn, disclosing further that he has instructed the Finance Commissioner to ensure that all  leave allowances must come in from next week.

According to him, all promotion letters would be rolled out up to 2017 but the in – coming Governor, (Dapo Abiodun) would handle that of the 2018.

Amosun also regaled himself with the assurance that his administration would leave behind, a workforce that is more informed, better equipped and can even work anywhere compared to what he met on ground in 2011.

He said: “We are not where we should be, but clearly we are on the right path. Yes, we may have our issues, but to the glory of God, we are leaving Ogun State better than we met it. We are leaving behind a workforce that is more informed, better equipped and can even work anywhere.

“All we need to do is to follow the path we created and still creating to follow it through. Tomorrow, you will receive N20.2b for all outstanding deductions and April salary.

“From next week, we will begin to pay our leave bonuses. As for the gratuity, I am not going gratuity to 2019. Gratuities are monies we use for development when we leave the service. We must wait at least two years before we bring in our papers and use one year to process the papers.

“So when you count back from when we will be leaving, whatever it is that we are owing, we will run round to pay that part of gratuity. I am not owing anybody for the checkup dues, deductions and salaries since 2011 to 2019 that I will be leaving.

“The newly recruited staff is not kangaroo recruitment. These are people that sat for the exam almost a year back and the procedures were followed; not that Amosun just woke up one day and said because I am leaving, I will bring in more people.

“These are the people that wrote ASCON exam since early last year. We just took one thousand from them. If we are to pick all that wrote the exam, we may probably day we want to pick five thousand.

“We picked one thousand from those that sat for the ASCON exam. We have given them their letters. As we employ more and create new offices in the public service, there is also the need to create necessary ambience, to bring out the creativity and professionalism of our public servants.”

  • Homeowners’ charter: Amosun attributes success to quality leadership

Ogun State Governor bikunle Amosun has attributed the success recorded in the Homeowners’ Charter Scheme, to conducive atmosphere and quality leadership provided by his administration,

Amosun stated this at the 38th edition of the presentation of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) and other land title documents to the beneficiaries at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The governor, represented by the Head of Service, Engr. Lanre  Bisiriyu, said,  property owners in the State were given opportunity to obtain legal land title documents at a discounted rate , adding that a stakeholders committee, saddled with the responsibility of monitoring the progress of the Scheme has been working round the clock to ensure that documents were processed on time.

‘’The Homeowners’  Charter Programme is an initiative of Ogun State Government,  aimed at providing residential homeowners the opportunity to obtain legal title documents without  statutory fines and penalties for their illegal buildings at a significantly discounted rates.

“Towards achieving this aim, members of the Committee saddled with the responsibility of monitoring the progress of the Scheme have been working round the clock to see that there are no hiccups in the processing of the documents’’, he said.

The governor assured other applicants that were yet to receive their documents that the Committee was determine to work extra time, to ensure the successful completion of the exercise

The Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, Abiodun Adelowo, congratulated the beneficiaries, urging them to go and show the documents to people in their communities, that the Scheme is real.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ikechukwu Okpala from Aregbe, Obantoko, Odeda Local Government Area, thanked the State government for putting the Scheme in place and making it available for both indigenes and non-indigenes.

  • Rumbles in Imo, Ogun over out-going governor’s last-minute transactions

Perhaps more than in any other states, last-minute activities of the out-going governors in Imo and Ogun states, have elicited controversy, reports Associate Editor, Sam Egburonu

ALTHOUGH they would be concluding their eight year’s tenures by May 28, 2019, barely a month and some days from today, governors Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State are in the news for initiating new projects, awarding new contracts or making major appointments.

As would be expected, though the direct beneficiaries of such employments, appointments or contracts and their relations and well-wishers are understandably celebrating and heaping encomiums on the out-going governors for remembering them at last, others, especially those who consider the last-minute contracts, establishments or appointments as mere traps for the incoming administrations, are kicking and warning that the out- going governors should stop creating problems for the new governments and the states deliberately.

In Imo, the grumbles started soon after it was learnt that Okorocha, who had only few weeks to leave the seat of government, has inaugurated a six-man committee, led by Prof. Chima Iwuchukwu, to see to the implementation of six new universities, colleges of education and polytechnics in the state. The proposed new schools include: Aboh Ngor University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; University of Agriculture and Developmental Science, Umuagwo; University of Science and Technology, Onuimo; University of Creative Technology, Isiaku-Nkwerre; University of Medical Science, Ogboko, Ideato South; Marine University, Oguta; College of Health Technology; Mbonu Ojike Polytechnic, Arondizuogu; and Bishop Shanahan Polytechnic, Ahiara Mbaise.

One of the people that have kicked against the move is Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the Governor-Elect in Imo. Ihedioha reportedly wrote to the National Universities Commission (NUC) not to honour the approval of more universities in the state.

Reacting, Okorocha said the Imo State House of Assembly backed the committee’s inauguration with a law.

He explained that his action can be compared to a similar move in Ogun State that led to the establishment of about 15 universities. According to him, the establishment of these universities in Ogun has enhanced admission opportunities and job placements in the Southwest state. He therefore reasoned that the establishment of the new universities in the state will enhance university admission in Imo and offer greater opportunities to the youths.

“With these institutions put in place, the dreams of our people would have been achieved. Education will remain the industry of Imo State. What we plan was to lure investors into Imo State. They will come and invest in our institutions, under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to assist us in the full take-off of the universities.

“For those of you who are conversant with the history of Imo State, education is one of the viable industries in the state.

“When I came into office in 2011, I told Imo people that my top priority is education and I want to tell you that we have done a lot in this area.

“We have created six new universities, four polytechnics and two colleges of education. By the time they take off, this will accommodate thousands of our children who go outside the state in search of admission and in most cases, they do not get it. Now, the opportunity is here for them to take advantage of,” he said.

Reacting to allegation that the idea of setting up six new universities few days before leaving office is a trap to put the in-coming administration into problem, Okorocha said, “Let me say that I am not setting any trap for the incoming administration either do I want the incoming government to fail with the setting up of these universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

“The dream behind it is that our children who are the highest in seeking of university education in the whole of the federation will have more opportunities of having access to university education.

“Education and health sectors have received the highest attention in Imo state within the last eight years of my administration. The free education programme in the state has reduced crimes in the state. Children are no longer hawking; they are now in schools because there is free education in the state.

“Nobody has any reason not to continue with the free education, which I introduced. Education is our culture and it is the main stay of our lives in Imo State. It has drastically increased literacy level in the state. Children of the poor now have unlimited access to quality education up to university level.”

He also denied claims that its funding will put a strain on the finances of the state when he said “the schools will be managed under Public Private Partnership arrangement.”

Similar controversy erupted in Ogun State when Governor Ibikunle Amosun, less than two months to the end of his tenure, approved the appointment of 18 new permanent secretaries from the state civil service.

Lanre Bisiriyu, the state’s Head of Service, who made the announcement in a press statement dated April 9, said the new appointees are Mosuro Olatunbosun, Bajela Abayomi, Abosede Ogunleye, Olufunke Ogunremi, Odulana Dolapo, Olanrewaju Saka, Olaleye Alao and Adebiyi Ayinla.

The others, he said are Idowu Olubunmi, Awere Abiodun, Olukoga Olumuyiwa, Adewunmi Olufemi, Oladeinde Olufunmilayo, Ogunlana Fatai, Lanre -Iyanda Olusegun, Olabimtan Akande, Aboaba Ishola and Oresanya Yetunde.

At the same time, the governor also approved the appointments of Oludiji Akinhanmi and Festus Kehinde as the General Managers of Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC) and Ogun State Television (OGTV) respectively.

As would be expected, Amosun has been under fire since then as observers and critical stakeholders wonder why he had to wait until now to make such important appointments and how expects the in-coming administration to relate with the new appointees.

One of the popular lawyers that have spoken to newsmen on the futility of such appointments and contracts is Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN). He was quoted recently as saying “the outgoing governors should bear in mind that the incoming governors reserve the right not to confirm the appointments being made and contracts awarded. According to him, those who are being employed now will be under probation by the time the new government will come in and they stand to lose their employment depending on the findings of the new government concerning their engagement. He said: “They should know that the new government has the right not to confirm the appointment of those under probations. When governor Rocha’s Okorocha came into power, he sacked about 10,000 workers. It is clear now that the appointments being made and the contracts being awarded are out of malice. ”They should also know that a searchlight is being beamed on them by anti-graft agencies. The whole thing is about malice and intended to create problems for the new administration,” he stated.

Not all lawyers and politicians see it the same way. Sunday Mbaku, a lawyer in Imo State, told The Nation that there is nothing wrong for Okorocha, Amosu or any other out-going governor to do their statutory duty until the last day of their four year tenure, adding, “A good project is a good project no matter how late it is awarded. My advice to the in-coming governors is to look at the appointments, contracts and recruitments objectively and act accordingly.”

He also said: “An elected governor has four-year tenure. He is expected to work as a governor all through the tenure and not to stop working after a new governor-elect emerges. So, in the eyes of the law, until May 29, every executive function performed by these governors are legitimate. But if after their tenure the new administration finds genuine reason not to continue with any of the decisions, it is free to follow the laid down legal processes to quash such actions.”

The concern over the last minutes actions of the out-going governors is not limited to Ogun and Imo states.

Other states where such concerns have been raised recently include Adamawa, Bauchi and Oyo. While blaming the out-going governors for delaying some of the controversial actions until the tail end of their tenure, observers said the in-coming governments must first assess the genuineness of the action before cancelling them in the interest of the state.

  • Ogun community to Amosun, Police: Don’t install new monarch now

The indigenes of Owo Kingdom in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State on Thursday stormed Abeokuta, the state capital, calling on Governor Ibikunle Amosun, to stop the planned installation of a new traditional ruler for the community.

The indigenes which took their protest to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, in Okelewo, also called on the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, not to allow any installation of a new monarch in the community to avert “chaos, bloodshed and anarchy.”

The last Oba of the agrarian community, Olowo of Owo, Oba Patrick Oyeniran Fasinu, was reportedly assassinated on July 27, 2017 while returning to his domain after attending a meeting of the Yewa Traditional Council in Ilaro, the Headquarters of the Yewa South Local Government.

Over a dozen suspects, including retired  Col. Alao Akala, were arrested in connection with the alleged brutal killing of Oba Fasinu and the matter is still pending in court, even though, Alao has also been granted bail on health ground.

But Prince Fasinu Matthew Olaonipekun, brother of the slain monarch, who addressed reporters, said the community wants the installation of a new monarch put on hold, claiming due process was not followed to arrive at who becomes the next Olowo of Owo Kingdom.

Prince Fasinu said it is a great insult to the good people of Owo that a new king is about to be installed when suspects of the killing of his brother are standing trial and the court hasn’t resolved it yet.

He lamented that the Governor Ibikunle Amosun – led government has not done anything about the killing of Oba Oyeniran Fasinu, saying it would amount to dishonor if the proper thing was not done for the late monarch before installing a successor – Oba.

Also speaking, the Vice – Chairman of the Owo Forum, Mrs. Aghelegin Comfort Olayinka, lamented that a prime suspect in the alleged murder of Oba Fasinu is rooting for the installation of a relation as next Oba of the community.

According to her, one Mojeed Rufai Alao who is being put forward as next Oba of the community hailed from Alao family which also doubles as the family of the alleged prime suspect; Col. Alao Akala, in the murder of Oba Fasinu.

  • I’ll hands off by 12 midnight on May 28, says Amosun

Outgoing Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Tuesday said he would hands off governance of Ogun state by 12 midnight on May 28, 2019 with the inauguration of projects executed by his administration.

“The last two weeks of our administration will be about delivery of dividends of democracy to the people. In fact, we will continue to lay asphalt on roads till the last minute of my government.

“This is because I have vowed to uphold the oath I swore to, that I would work to deliver on my electioneering promises to the people of Ogun State.”

According to Amosun, the festival, was conceptualised four years ago by the Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and has since become a state affair to celebrate African Heritage and culture.

Earlier, Deputy Governor Yetunde Onanuga who doubles as the chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the festival said it is a legacy the state government has bequeathed to Ogun, Nigeria, Africa and the world.

While noting that the festival has been expanded to accommodate more activities, she disclosed that at least 28 state troupes, 27 countries and 71 Independent troupes have signified their readiness to participate in the festival billed to hold between April 25 and 27.
