  • Tinpot emperor

His cap fits him, especially as a measure of his ego. It points up like an airport tower as though intending to graze the sky. Ibikunle Amosun’s head gear suffers from what Sigmund Freud and his followers would call phallic anxiety. From base to top, the cap occupies a real estate bigger than his face from fore-head to chin. To his credit, few politicians have so mastered what I would call the “political look.” Some showcase their shirts, others their shoes, many their caps. But few set themselves apart like the Ogun State governor as a fop of the head. Many say it is inelegant with the top rims caved in so the centre spikes up like a blade. But it is his own.

What does not fit, though, is the man and his task. So, Amosun may be a governor, but he is not gubernatorial. He has never been gubernatorial, not even before he mounted the throne and grovelled in prayer from party leader to party leader, sitting in lobbies on end and playing the suppliant fellow as an impresario of humility. Like Oliver Goldsmith’s familiar character, Amosun thinks he stooped then. Now it is his time to conquer. He was afflicted early by the fear of gratitude, and his ogas must pay for his humble pie.

The first shadow of the ego at work was a picture of a flood few months into his reign. The man paid a visit, and in spite of his ponderous boots, he would not allow his special footwear to touch the intrusive waters. He cruised on a canoe while the rest of Ogun humanity around swam. He, with his boots, was too pristine for the stain.

Of late though, what he has done puts the man in bold relief, especially his bold belief. He wanted to post his successor, and he had the right to it. But he wanted to do it without due process. A godfather must earn the respect of his son. The scriptures warn parents not to provoke their children to wrath. It was lesson number one that he did not understand. He was less than the lesson. Godfathers must play a delicate game of balance and flattery of conflicting interests and tendencies. If he wants to impose he must follow the paradox of imposition by consent. He followed the path of imposition by fiat.

Because he was too confident, he fell out of touch with the grassroots. The primary poll came, and he lost. His candidate for governor had to wait on the side-lines. But while others cheered, he lamented. His party, the APC, had thumbed its finger for another man, Dapo Abiodun. Amosun would not yield. His patriarchal air would not absorb such a defeat. He had to seek oxygen elsewhere.

His path was to seek another party, and be on record as one of a few governors who are leaders without discipline. He betrayed what Joseph Conrad calls a “bravado of guilt” or “an adventurer’s easy morality.” He, like his Imo State mate of erections, Rochas Okorocha, announced that his candidate was going to another party. A party leader masterminded an anti-party activity. Party chairman Adams Oshiomhole yelled, but the man Amosun yelled back. He had cried that party leaders had squeezed him out of contention in his own realm.

He screamed at Lagos, and at Abuja, and he screamed until he turned hoarse. He said he wanted to run as senatorial candidate of APC. The people of Ogun State he urged to vote him as APC senator and his candidate Akinlade of the APM as the governor pick. That was local politics.

He who claimed to love Buhari more than the so-called cabal decided to play another stunt. His people should vote Buhari of the APC for president, him for senator and Akinlade for governor.  A confused trinity. He took his man Akinlade on a sojourn to Aso Rock. It was indeed a theatre when even Buhari received Amosun in Aso Rock and received the candidate and posed for the camera. If all politics is local, Amosun is making the byway the main road. Governor is main road but by asking his supporters to go to another party for the top post in the state, he made the byway the main road.

Segun Osoba had to remind Buhari that he had erred woefully by taking the party pick to visit him. But Buhari is for everyone and nobody and the translation is that Buhari is for Buhari only. By that, Buhari had become guilty like Amosun.

But nothing reflected the absurdity like what happened in Abeokuta at the APC rally when members of his own rival party APM pelted the president with missiles and boos. He endangered the life of the first citizen. Rauf Aregbesola called him a hypocrite. It was a lawless scene that day. Eyewitness accounts show that persons were mauled and one person’s eye was gouged.

Yet he wants to be a senator. As I tweeted, we have enough of the tout in a certain fellow from Kogi State. The senate cannot abide another one, especially if he was once governor. Amosun is a great shuffler. That day, he jostled Abiodun from the front row. It took the vice president’s intervention who ceded his place beside the president to him. Prof Yemi Osinbajo had to secure a place on the other side of the president. More than one governor has told me that when his colleagues gather around the president, he often pushes them away so as to stand beside Buhari. Hence he is often beside the man for photo ops, unless on a few occasions when the shuffler fails.

Amosun ought to learn about the limits of power. A friend of mine apprised me of a text message he sent Amosun as new year greetings in 2017. Excerpt: “…it is obvious the euphoria that greeted your ascension to power in 2011 has avoidably vanished… rather than be the solution, most inhabitants of the Gateway state, including civil servants, most politicians, civil society groups, market men and women now see you as the problem…this could be traced only to one factor: …you listen only to yourself…which can only lead to self-perdition…why are you daring God with your published statement that you know the person that won’t be governor come 2019…you’re determined to play Babangida here but we all know how Babangida ended…but try to reflect on why the populace of that state no longer like you. Remember the verdict of history and the incontrovertible fact that: today is not forever.”

During the Yoruba Wars, the story is told of an Alafin, who grovelled by day and plotted by night, and he ended up in the night of infamy. For now, we can say Amosun is playing emperor, but an expiring one. His reign is going roughneck into that goodnight.  He is raging against the dying of his light, apologies Dylan Thomas.

    Like a comet

We all woke up to a day different from what we slept for. The polls did not come but the day came and left. So after INEC chief Mahmood Yakubu explained all that happened, I said to myself, one week will be over soon, and the election will come and go like a comet. The significant point he made was that he wanted to avoid a scenario where most states would have performed their duties and a few would be left, like Edo or Taraba or Oyo, and it would look like a staggered election. So if it becomes a tight race, it would look like a few states would vote after the fact and exploit perceived momentum or spike it.

Osun Election: US applauds INEC over inconclusive verdict, rerun
    INEC boss

It would look like a rerun rather than an election of the whole country. If epochs sweep by and are defined by a few sentences, like the Second World War or the life of Mandela, what is a week in a nation’s life? Time seems to grind when we are impatient, but it has the wings of a bat.

  • Amosun pays ex-political office holders N1.1 billion severance package

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Wednesday paid N1.1 billion severance allowance to former political office holders in the State.

Amosun said he has so far paid a total of N2.6 billion to former political office holders at the state and local government levels.

The governor, who made this known while giving cheques to beneficiaries at the Arcade ground Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, added that some were opposed to the idea of paying the money few weeks to the elections.

He noted those not comfortable with him paying the severance package reasoned it would mean empowering the oppositions among the beneficiaries.

Amosun explained he was paying the money to former political office holders, including members of the opposition party, because they deserved to be recognised and rewarded for the service to the state.

However, Amosun said consultants and special advisers in the local governments are not captured by law, stating he was following the law to the letter.

The governor promised not to owe any worker before the expiration of his tenure, maintaining all the deduction of workers will be settled before the end of his administration.

He said the wage bill of the state stood at about N3.9 billion when he became governor, stressing the bill has increased to N9.3 billion while the federal allocation keeps dropping almost every month.

Amosun revealed his predecessor received, many times,  as much as over N9 billion from the federation account, saying the highest he has ever collected was only in October 2011 when N6.1 billion was given to the state.

According to him, the amount has nosedived to less than N2 billion in recent times.

  • APC accuses Amosun of sponsoring attack against Buhari, party leaders

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun of sponsoring political thugs to cause violence and embarrass President Muhammadu Buhari and other party leaders during the party’s Presidential campaign rally in Ogun state on Monday.

Political thugs disrupted the campaign rally at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, throwing stones and sachet water at the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and other party leaders for refusing to bow to the dictate of the governor and have his preferred candidate fly the party flag as governorship candidate.

The APC governorship candidate in the state, Dapo Abiodun has also been attacked by the same political thugs on two previous occasions while on campaign in the state.

National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu said in a statement that the party will not condone such act of indiscipline and will take appropriate disciplinary measure against the sponsors of the attack after the elections.

The statement reads: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) regrets Monday’s premeditated attacks sponsored by Governor Ibikunle Amosun on President Muhammadu Buhari and other senior party leaders at the venue of the presidential campaign rally in Ogun State.

“This is one act of indiscipline too many. The APC will not condone acts of indiscipline, indiscretion and anti-party activities from any party member no matter how highly placed.

“The party will review this gross misconduct of deliberately positioning thugs to attack and embarrass the President and the party’s leadership. The party will take a decision on this matter immediately after the elections. It must be stated that party supremacy and discipline according to our constitution are not matters of choice but binding principles which must be adhered to by all party members.

“The APC is a party known for discipline, justice, fairness and equality; hence any plan to destroy what this party stands for would be rejected. No single person will be allowed to put his personal and selfish interests ahead of the wishes of the people of Ogun state and elsewhere.

“Post primaries, the decision of the National Working Committee to uphold the wishes of party members is unbendable. Therefore, whatever means being presently deployed by persons intending to undermine the wishes of the people for personal gains will not be tolerated.

“We urge our teeming party supporters and members not to be disturbed by Monday’s condemnable incident. We urge all to continue trooping out enmasse for our remaining campaigns and vote massively for ALL and ONLY APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

  • Amosun gloats over Ogun APC rally

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun incredibly celebrated the near-riotous show at the Presidential rally of the All Progressives Congress in Abeokuta on Monday.

According to a post on his Facebook page on Monday reporting on the event, Amosun gloated over the ‘protests’ by members of his Allied Peoples Movement(APM) and that the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola and the director-general of the Presidential campaign, Rotimi Amaechi were ‘booed and stoned”.

Then he claimed that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was instrumental to Amosun’s emergence as governor in 2011, escaped through the backdoor.

His report did not accurately reflect what transpired at the rally, where President Buhari was almost attacked by the unruly APM supporters the governor invited to the APC rally, when the president presented Prince Dapo Abiodun as the APC candidate in the state.

From TV livestreaming, the President presented Abiodun as the governorship candidate of the party, but Governor Amosun slanted his report to give the dampening side of it.

“When Comrade Oshiomhole and some party members took Prince Dapo Abiodun to the president for him to present, the president instead announced, ”for the other elections, let the people of Ogun State decide”, Amosun reported in the post, which has attracted hundreds of adverse commentaries.

    *Read Amosun’s Facebook post:
The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State boiled over today (Monday) when protests by party members marred the presidential campaign rally as party members booed the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Raufu Aregbesola and Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign, Rotimi Amaechi . Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the first time in the APC Presidential campaign, declined to make a speech at the event as he exited the venue through the backdoor as President Muhammadu Buhari made his speech.

President Buhari, as he did at the presidential rally of the APC in Owerri , Imo State, asked members of the party in the state to vote for any candidate of their choice apart from the presidential election.

Trouble started early in the rally shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari made a triumphant entry into the Moshood Abiola Stadium in company with the Vice President Yemi Oshinbajo, Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State and other chieftains of the APC.

The Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Rotimi Amaechi in his opening remarks remarked that the rally was an APC campaign, a note that was received with a resounding shout of “no”, ”no” from the stands.

The protests got louder when the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole came on board and disclosed that his mission was to introduce President Muhammadu Buhari and the gubernatorial candidate of the party.

The disclosure sent the stands into uproar and sachets of water were hauled in the direction of the party chairman where other party chieftains were seated.

Governor Amosun had to step in to appeal to the party members to be calm and not “disgrace” him before President Muhammadu Buhari. His repeated appeals fell on deaf ears and went into crescendo as the insistence of Comrade Oshiomhole to present the party flag to Prince Dapo Abiodun, further infuriated the party members.

This led to uncontrollable heckling from the stands, forcing security men to erect a barricade around the President and other party chieftains.
When it was time for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to speak, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State, stepped in and his pronouncement that there were unfaithful party members at the gathering fuelled further shouts of rejection from the stands and he had to be cut short to take his seat.

President Muhammadu Buhari, apparently noting the crisis at the rally, thanked party members for turning up in their numbers to receive him. He admonished them to vote for him in the February 16 presidential election.

However, on the much awaited presentation of the gubernatorial candidate of the party, the president advised members of the “to vote for any candidate of their choice”.

When Comrade Oshiomhole and some party members took Prince Dapo Abiodun to the president for him to present, the president instead announced, ”for the other elections, let the people of Ogun State decide”

  • Corrupt politicians will continue to go to jail-Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday reiterated his commitment to the anti-graft battle, saying that corrupt politicians will go to jail.

He also promised to fulfill his campaign promises, if re-elected in next Saturday’s election, urging Lagosians to vote for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates “from top to bottom.”

President Buhari and other party leaders, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN); Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode; National Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Presidential Campaign Council Co-chairman Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Campaign Director Rotimi Amaechi and Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola spoke on the achievements of the APC-led government in the last three and half years at a rally held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The president, who stormed the venue around 2.45noon, was excited at the crowd that had waited for him from sunrise.

For him, the visit to the stadium was historic. He and other party leaders were seized by nostalgic feelings.

Four years ago, President Buhari had defeated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at the APC presidential primary held at the venue.

It was a carnival-like rally. Security was tight. Party supporters outside the stadium were more that those inside the main bowl.

Thrilling the crowd were ace musicians-Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, Lady Queen and ‘Small Doctor.’

Party faithful, who came from the 57 councils, mixed with other party supporters and followers-representatives of the entertainment industry, Community Development Associations (CDAs), women groups, youth associations and students.

President Buhari was accompanied by Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje; Kebbi State Governor Bangudu; Nasarawa State Deputy Governor; Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Chris Ngige and members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC).

At the venue were Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Idiat Adebule; Nigeria’s Ambassador to United States Justice Oguntade; APC Interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande; Afenifere chieftains led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi; Southwest Governors Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti); Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo); Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo); Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun); Gboyega Oyetola (Osun) and Godwin Obaseki (Edo).

There were also APC National Deputy Chairman (South) and former Ekiti State Governor Adeniyi Adebayo; National Auditor Chief George Moghalu; National Treasurer Adamu Fanda; National Welfare Secretary Ibrahim Masari; Legal Adviser Babatunde Ogala; Vice Chairman (Southwest) Pastor Bankola Oluwajana; Vice Chairman (Northeast) Emma Enukwu; Vice Chairman (Southsouth Ntifam Ita and National Youth Leader Sadiq Abubakar.

Other chieftains include former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola; Lagos State APC Chairman Tunde Balogun and former Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda.

The highlights of the campaign was the handing of party flags by Oshiomhole to the Lagos State governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Lagos Central senatorial candidate Senator Oluremi Tinubu; her Lagos West and East counterparts-Senator Solomon Adeola and Sikiru Osinnowo and House of Representatives flag bearers who were represented by the Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila (Surulere Constituency).

Thanking Lagosians for their patience and commitment, the President said: “I thank you very much for defying the weather to be with us. I don’t think there is much to add to what the Minister of Works and Housing, the Minister of Transport and the vice-president has said.

“I thank you very much and I can assure you that the promise we have made in 2015 to those who elected us, we have fulfilled.

“We have made enormous progress in reviving the economy, on security and fighting corruption. I assure you that we will collect what they have stolen and send them to prison. This is our duty. This is our responsibility and I assure you that we are going to do it.”

Osinbajo, who spoke in Yoruba, said President will provide three things, if re-elected.

These, he said, are jobs, electricity and infrastructure, including roads and railway.

He thanked the President for making ‘June 12’ Democracy day and a holiday in commemoration of the historic June 12, 1993 presidential polls and the injustice of annulment.

He added: “All these are easy, if we vote for Buhari. They don’t want Buhari to remain in office because he is opposed to corruption.

“Buhari made June 12 Democracy Day. When he was minister, three of the four refineries were built. The longest pipeline routes were constructed. He has built roads and he is doing railway. On February 16, use your index fingers to vote for Buhari.”

Tinubu, who described the rally as a celebration of democracy, told the President and party elders that Lagosians will vote for APC because they suffered for 16 years under the PDP administration.

He said: “Lagos is sure, very sure about voting for APC under the broom revolution.

“The party chairman, Balogun, has catalogued Buhari’s achievements. Buhari did not make empty promises. You could see action.”

Tracing the history of Lagos from 1999, the former governor said the people had struck a deal with the progressives, adding that they cannot endorse the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that has not catered for their interest.

He flayed former President Olusegunn Obasanjo and his deputy, Atiku, for serving as clogs in the wheels of Lagos progress, stressing the former vice president is unworthy of Lagos votes.

Tinubu said: “We have had progressive governments in Lagos since 1999. We have provided education and quality health.

“We were the first to pay WAEC fees of students. We catered for poor women and widows. I handed over to Babatunde Fashola.

“I asked him a question: what will happen, if you are elected governor? He said: ‘Lagos will not spoil.’

“Obasanjo then came. We thought there was no way for a revolutionary economy without the Independent Power Project (IPP). I introduced IPP.

“He and Atiku opposed it. I went to court. My lawyer was Osinbajo. I won and we started generating 300 megawatts.

“If they had allowed IPP, Dunlop, Michelin would not have moved out of Nigeria.

“Look at our roads and the traffic density. Obi (Peter) said he will create jobs. But, he has not been able to make brake pads and wheel spanners for the vehicles.

“He said we should go and extend our port in Benin Republic. I call that container economy; Obi China.”

  • I won’t be an ungrateful Governor – Dapo Abiodun

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has assured residents of Ogun state that he would not disappoint them if elected to govern the state.

Prince Abiodun gave the assurance while speaking during his campaign tour of Sagamu Local government Area, where residents of Sotunbo community defiled the heavy downpour to give him a rousing reception and support.

The residents came out in their hundreds as show of solidarity for the governorship  ambition of  Abiodun but subtly protested their  neglect since 2011 by Governor Ibikunle Amosun – led administration in the state.

While promising them of participatory decision making in his choice of project execution, the Iperu born prince and governorship hopeful sympathized with them on the deplorable situation of the roads and other infrastructure in the zone.

He noted that the area’s proximity to Lagos should be an added advantage for speedy development pledging to take Sagamu to its deserved height.

“Our words are our promises and our promises are sacred to us” He concluded,” he said.

He emphasized that the kind of support given to him should be replicated to all APC candidates across board assuring that the party would reciprocate the gesture with good governance.

  • Amosun: we fear only God, Buhari, nothing more

    …Ogun APC gets caretaker committee

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Friday evening declared he does not fear forces within the All Progressives Congress (APC) working against his interests in the forthcoming general elections.

He said he only fears God and President Muhammadu Buhari.

He spoke when received a letter of endorsement from the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for President Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate for the February 2019 presidential polls.

Amosun, who took delivery of the endorsement letter from the governorship candidate of APM, Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade, at the APC Secretariat on Abiola Way, Abeokuta, the state capital, for onward transfer to Buhari, also insisted the Chief Derin Adebiyi-led excos will serve its four years term in full.

He spoke just as the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party appointed Yemi Sanusi (Chairman); Ayo Olubori (Secretary) and Tunde Oladunjoye (Publicity Secretary) to serve as caretaker committee of Ogun APC.

The Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC last Wednesday dissolved the APC executives in Ogun state and Imo State but Adebiyi has since dismissed the dissolution as an exercise in “futility.”

Amosun said: “You know me by now. For me, I fear God and I respect people. So, it won’t be because we are afraid or we don’t want to talk.

“”We don’t fear them. All of them put together, we don’t fear anybody. We fear God and we fear President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Where we are now, what we should concentrate in doing is to let them know is that here in Ogun State, this is the home of President Buhari and we must vote massively for him.

“This is the home of APC. We must let them know that come February 16, 2019, by the benevolence of the Almighty Lord…

“We are human. We are no God and that is why we are telling them that in this coming election, in this Ogun State, it is whoever all of you (people) decide to back that will win the election.

“So, the best way to answer them is through our action. And what is the action? We will use our votes to let them know who owns this Ogun state.

“So, if they are looking for state to destroy them, they should not think of Ogun State.  We are ready for them.

“We have decided to let them be for the sake of President Buhari. If not for the President, we know what to do.”

He went on:  “Just ignore them. Don’t engage them for anything. Let us be focused and redouble our efforts so that in the coming election, we are going to answer them with our votes.

“I want to assure you that this executive that God has used you to put together, the executive will be there for the next four years. They will serve their term.”

  • Arewa community pledges 300,000 votes for Abiodun

The Arewa community in Ogun State have declared their support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, pledging to ensure their over 300,000 eligible voters vote for Abiodun in 2019.

The Arewa community also called on their members to vote only for APC candidates at all levels, and shun the misleading information being peddled that they should vote for a particular candidate of APC as well as vote for other political party in the same forthcoming general elections.

The State Coordinator of the ethnic group in the state, Prince Hadi Sani, made the pledge while addressing members, state and Local Government executives, imams and women when they visited former Governor Olusegun Osoba at his GRA residence, Abeokuta, the state capital, on Wednesday.

The Arewa Community was received by Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi, on behalf of Osoba, who lauded them for their resolve to work for the success of APC and Dapo Abiodun in Ogun state.

Still on the delegation, Sani also declared their total support for the joint ticket of President Muhammadu Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, saying they cannot afford to shift their loyalty elsewhere in 2019.

“As good people of Ogun State have spoken by selecting Prince Dapo Abiodun as the APC candidate through direct primary election, we appeal to all aggrieved personalities to respect the decision of the masses and allow party supremacy to prevail,” Sani said.

The Coordinator noted that they lived in Ogun state for well over 100 years and have been carrying with their economic activities peacefully and unhindered, urging the Sultan of Sokoto Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, to commend on their behalf, Vice – President Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Chief Segun Osoba, Prince Segun Adesegun, Senator Gbenga Obadara, Senator Gbenga Kaka, Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi, Hon. Olumide Osoba, Dapo Abiodun, and Hon. Femi Ilori their support to Arewa community in Ogun state.

And earlier same Wednesday, Governor Ibikunle Amosun loyalists from Abeokuta South Local Government, pledged their support for Prince Adedapo Abiodun.

The loyalists who are from Ward 7 in Abeokuta South, vowed to ensure the victory of Abiodun in 2019 governorship election and other APC candidates contesting in all the levels in the coming general elections

A State House of Assembly aspirant, Hon. Oyatayo Gabriel Ayomikun,  who over 200 of Amosun’s loyalists to declare for Abiodun at the Secretariat of the Ogun State Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Abeokuta, said they decided to abide by the decision of APC National Working Committee (NWC) and support the candidature of Abiodun.

Ayomikun appealed to Governor Amosun to allow the supremacy of the party to prevail and restrain his other supporters from moving to “unpopular political party.”

According to Ayomikun, it would be an anti – party and unfair to Ogun APC  that has brought immense benefits to him as two term governor should he herd his supporters to a  fringe political party.

He noted  that Amosun has visited President Buhari over five times in alleged desperation  to upturn the decision of the NWC on Abiodun and  to facilitate his anointed candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, to emerge, urging  him to  take cognisance of the fact that others too were denied party ticket for him to become Governor in 2011.

  • FG plans two additional Satellites to boost NIGCOMSAT-2

…As telecom subscribers hit 162,05 million

The Federal Government is set to establish two additional satellites to support the Nigeria Communication Satellite  system (NIGCOMSAT) to complement the existing NIGCOMSAT- 2.

Minister for Communication, Dr.  Adebayo Shittu, who disclosed this on Thursday at the 6th regular meeting of the National Council on Communication Technology (NCCT),  in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said this is to further  boost the Telecommunications industry.

Shittu added that the Federal Government is committed to using Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) as a tool to diversify the nation’s economy.

According to him, the economic recovery and massive employment generation for the teeming youths could be achieved faster using ICT

Speaking on this year’s theme: “Leveraging ICT as a vehicle for economic recovery and growth, “the Minister revealed that the country’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has increased from $32 billion in 2015 to $40 billion in 2018.

Shittu also disclosed that the telecommunications industry has improved with active telecom subscribers increasing from 148,70million in 2015 to 162,05 million as at September, 2018.

Declaring open the meeting, Governor Ibikunle Amosun said the state is committed to sustaining an ICT driven environment, adding that he would  always accord it a significant role in his administration.
