WBA boss hints at Ideye, Anichebe’s exit

The days of Nigeria strikers Victor Anichebe and Brown Ideye at West Bromwich Albion are numbered if the words of manager Tony Pulis are taken into consideration.

Pulis told Express and Star in the United Kingdom that both strikers could move after the team signed Rickie Lambert and Salomon Rondon.

Anichebe and Ideye have struggled to hold down regular starting places at “The Hawthorns” and the manager has hinted that the pair could be allowed to find other clubs, africanFootball.com reports.

“People will look at Victor and Browny and think they have to move on, but they have wanted to play more regular football anyway,” africanFootball.com quoted Pulis as saying to the Express and Star.

“Bringing Salomon in, does it hasten their move from the club? We’ll have to wait and see.”

Anichebe joined WBA from Everton in 2013, while Ideye moved from Dynamo Kiev last summer on a then club record fee of 10 million pounds.

English Premier League club, West Bromwich Albion are in advanced talks to sign Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon in a club-record £15million deal from Russian Champions, Zenit St. Petersburg.

Former Stoke City coach, Tony Pulis identified Rondon, 25, as a primary attacking target and the player’s agent was at the club’s training ground on Friday to finalise terms.

This means Nigeria and Baggies forward, Brown Ideye’s departure at the Hawthron is imminent, and it emerged that West Brom may allow the former Dynamo Kiyv forward to leave and he’s a top target for Turkish side, Trabzonspor.

Rondon scored 20 goals in 37 league games for Zenit St Petersburg last season and, at 6ft 3in, will provide a physical threat at centre-forward.

Rondon, who has 13 goals in 39 games for his country, was expected to have a medical on Saturday and would be West Brom’s second club-record signing in a successive summer windows, having brought in Brown Ideye for £10m last year.

West Brom may be open to letting Ideye go should a fee of around £6m be submitted for the Nigerian.

Trabzonspor are still keeping close tabs on West Brom’s record signing Brown Ideye. The Baggies splashed out £10m to land the striker from Dynamo Kiev but he has struggled to settle at the Hawthorns.

Ideye scored just two goals in his first 17 appearances for the club but did finish the season more strongly following the arrival of manager Tony Pulis on New Year’s Day.

The Nigerian bagged four goals in Pulis’ first eight games in charge and ended the season with seven goals in all competitions.

Another West Brom striker, Saido Berahino, is the subject of intense summer speculation but, according to reports in Turkey, Ideye is now too a wanted man.

Trabzonspor are after a new strike partner for the evergreen Oscar Cardozo and reckon 26-year-old Ideye could fit the bill.

West Bromwich Albion’s record signing Brown Ideye is wanted by Turkish club side,Trabzonspor but the former Dynamo Kiev is keen to stay in the English Premier League and prove he’s worth at the Hawthorns for another season.

The 26-year-old joined the Baggies last summer for £10million from Dinamo Kiev and despite a poor start is enjoying life under Tony Pulis.

He has been in a superlative form so far in the pre-season scoring two goals in two games for the club.

His representative Hootan Ahmadi said: “We have heard rumours of interest but as yet no-one has made any approach and West Brom have not informed us of any. Brown is happy at West Brom and is enjoying his football at the moment.

“And I don’t think Brown would welcome any move now because he’s focus is on the new season with West Brom to prove his worth to gaffer Tony Pulis who has decided not to sign another striker and ready to stick with the former Sochaux forward.”

    Ideye scores in WBA win

Brown Ideye scored for West Bromwich as the Baggies overpowered Walsall 2-0 in a pre-season game decided on Tuesday night.

The Nigerian international, who replaced Stephane Sessègnon five minutes after the break, netted in the 83rd minute as WBA continued to shape up for the 2015/16 season.

He showed a predator’s touch as he finished clinically off a low James McClean cross from the left.

Ideye, the WBA record signing, struggled in his first season at the club where he managed just four league goals in the 2014/15 season. He will be looking to have a much better goal return in the new season with expectations even higher.

His compatriot, Victor Anichebe, was also in action against Walsall at the Banks Stadium but was substituted on 50 minutes.

Ideye, Anichebe and their WBA teammates will face Manchester City in their opening Premier League game of the season at the Hawthorns on August 10.

Ideye, Anichebe fall to Austrian champions

Nigerian duo of Brown Ideye and Victor Anichebe fired blanks as West Bromwich Albion started their pre-season tour of Austria on a losing note.

The Baggies fell 3-1 to Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg in Schladming as they showed match rustiness as it was the first game they’ve played following the end of the English Premier League.

Anichebe was given the nod to start as Ideye sat on the bench and watched as his side conceded a two-goal deficit. Marco Djuricin scored on 33 minutes when he drilled home a shot from 20 yards to give the home side the lead.

Former Espanyol forward Jonathan Soriano doubled the lead six minutes later with a lovely finish after he burst into the box to score past Boaz Myhill in goal for West Brom to end the first half 2-0.

Manager Tony Puli threw on Brown Ideye five minutes after the restart but it didn’t improve the situation as Salzburg scored a third through Takumi Minamino on 64th minute but four minutes later the Baggies got a consolation via Adil Nabi to end the game 3-1.

West Brom will host former premier champions Manchester City in their first match of the 2015/16 EPL season on August 8.

Brown shares selfie with Pocognoli after training

Nigerian international Brown Ideye took time out after a long, hard training with his English Premier League (EPL) side West Brom to retweet a selfie with teammate Sébastien Pocognoli.

The Baggies are currently in Austria preparing for the start of the 2015/16 EPL season where they are billed to host former Champions Manchester City in their first game of the season.

‘Relaxing after a very hard day with my man @OfficialIdeye,’ Pocognoli tweeted.

Ideye was dropped from the Nigerian national team to the 2014 World Cup after helping the Super Eagles to win the 2013 African Nations Cup in South Africa, but he has an opportunity to fight for a return to the national team after the NFF on Saturday night fired the man who blacklisted him from the team – Coach Stephen Keshi.

West Brom enjoyed a massive turn-round last season following the employment of former Stoke City boss Tony Pulis as they leapt out of relegation zone to finish the season 13th with 44 points.

Brown Ideye was pleased that West Brom secured all three points in the English Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford thanks to Jonas Olsson’s 63rd minute goal.

In the last 10 minutes of the week 35 game, the Nigeria international replaced Saido Berahino .

    “What a win #WBAFC #greatresult, ” Brown Ideye tweeted.

West Brom’s number 10 Victor Anichebe failed to come off the bench in what would have been his 20th appearance in the top flight.

As things stand, The Baggies need a maximum of five points in their remaining three games to be certain of playing in the Premiership next season.

    Pulis knocks Ideye, praises Anichebe

West Bromwich Albion manager, Tony Pulis believes the Baggies could have made more of their Premier League defeat to Queens Park Rangers if Brown Ideye had scored in the first half at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

Ideye should have opened the scoring inside two minutes but saw his header from point blank range comfortably saved by the QPR goalkeeper, Robert Green.

Pulis believes that miss by Ideye was crucial as the Baggies went on to suffer a comprehensive defeat in front of the faithful.

“We powder-puffed our way through 45 minutes of Premier League football, which you can’t do. Brownie (Ideye) missed a good chance before they scored,” Pulis told the club’s official website, www.wba.co.uk.

Ideye’s compatriot, Victor Anichebe, a second half substitute temporarily pulled the score to 1-3 when he netted in the 58th minute.

While Pulis acknowledged that Anichbe’s goal was one of the brightest moments in a better second half display for his side, it failed to paper the cracks on a truly miserable day for all Baggies.

“We created more chances after the break. We scored one goal but should have scored two or three more and that happened a few times now,” he said.

Ideye has scored four league goals this season while Anichebe has netted twice.

  • Aston Villa dash Ideye’s Wembley dream

Aston Villa dash Ideye’s Wembley dream

Aston Villa bacame the first team to book their place in the semi-final of the FA Cup, on Saturday, after beating Midlands rivals, West Brom at Villa Park for the second time this week.

The influential Fabian Delph, who was at the heart of everything good about Tim Sherwood’s side, gave Villa the lead shortly after the interval as he powered a left footed strike past Boaz Myhill – brought in by Tony Pulis in place of Ben Foster – before Claudio Yacob was controversially sent off.

After a goalless first half in which Baggies striker Brown Ideye was guilty of passing up a glorious chance when he missed the target from eight yards, Villa came out full of purpose and Scott Sinclair, who was on loan at West Brom last season, added a second to set up a date at Wembley. West Brom paid a heavy price for failing to turn their first-half domination into goals as Fabian Delph produced a sparkling finish from Charles N’Zogbia’s pass to sweep Tim Sherwood’s side ahead on 51 minutes.

A horrid mistake by referee Anthony Taylor in deciding to red card Claudio Yacob on 80 minutes for a second yellow despite barely making contact the grounded Leandro Bacuna provided Villa with the space for their killer second goal five minutes later.

Scott Sinclair chewed up ground before turning Gareth McAuley inside out to fire the ball past the stricken Boaz Myhill in the visiting goal.

Sinclair proably wouldn’t have got the time or space to finish if Yacob had been on the park. There was still time for young Villa substitute Jack Grealish to be harshly sent off after he picked up two bookings inside the closing moments – one for a late challenge on Callum McMcManaman, the other for diving after skipping past Joleon Lescott.

The FA will no doubt be studying footage of the match with Villa set for a heavy fine after several fans raced onto the pitch in injury time to hold the game up before a full-scale pitch invasion at the full-time whistle in scenes straight out of the 1980s.

    Ideye, Anichebe face fitness test

West Brom coach, Tony Pulis, is sweating on the fitness of Brown Ideye ahead of Tuesday’s English Premiership clash away to Aston Villa.

Before the 1 – 0 win over Southampton, the Nigeria international was given pain-killing injections, but failed to complete the game nonetheless, with the striker replaced two minutes from time.

“Brown Ideye and Saido were both carrying knocks even before the game,” Tony Pulis was quoted as saying by Birmingham Mail.

“It just shows they have got good spirit in the dressing room and people want to play.

“Saido had an injection before the game and maybe he should have one before every game, scoring goals like that.”

Also, 2008 Beijing Olympics silver medalist Victor Anichebe faces a late fitness test, ahead of the game at Villa Park.
