    West Brom boss blasts Ideye

West Bromwich Albion head coach has hit out at some of his players whom he believed under perform in Tuesday night’s shock 2-1 loss to AFC Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup.

Irvine who made 10 changes to his side that played in the Premiership game against Crystal Palace at the weekend says he clearly feels some players didn’t justify their inclusion.

According to the manager, the game on the south coast was an ideal platform for some players to stake a place for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League game at Leicester but not enough performed to the level expected of them.

Record signing Brown Ideye was one among the numerous changes made by the Baggies boss who failed to impress on his return from injury and was replaced in the 55th minute by his Nigerian compatriot Victor Anichebe.

“I was disappointed by the performances of some players,” said Irvine after the game.

“We did enough to get back into the game but we needed to do more to win the game.

“I have to look after the players who have played a lot. And I also have go to give players who were desperate to play a platform to impress.  Some of the players did, but not enough of them. I don’t regret the 10 changes.”

‘Injury-free’ Ideye returns against Man Utd

Nigeria international Brown Ideye has resumed full training after an injury he sustained in West Brom’s 3-2 win over Hull City.

With this development there is every expectation that the attacker would be paraded for the Baggies in their Barclays Premier League clash at home to Manchester United at The Hawthorns on Monday.

The attacker has spent more than two weeks on the sidelines after sustaining an injury in the Baggies League Cup game with Hull City late September.

But the former Ocean Boys forward is full of optimism to be at his best even as the medical staff of his club side has certified the 26 – year – old fit for Monday’s tie with Manchester United, meaning he is in line to make his fourth appearance in the Premier League this term.

The Nigerian ace was quick to announce this on his social media handle to update his fans on his return and fitness test.

“@OfficialIdeye: I’m so happy to be back in training after 2 weeks out of Action,Big thanks to the Medical staff  #Biglovewba #GreatGod,” Ideye tweeted.

The pair were also sidelined for the team’s last match.

There absent means four-goal Saido Berahino will lead the line, while Chris Baird is fit again after illness.

Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge is touch and go for Liverpool ahead of their Premier League clash with West Brom at Anfield.

The England striker has missed six matches with a thigh strain, and while he is edging closer to full fitness, he has been left out of Roy Hodgson’s squad for the upcoming 2016 qualifiers due to his lack of match action.

Defenders Glen Johnson and Mamadou Sakho (both thigh), Jon Flanagan (knee) and midfielders Joe Allen (knee) and Emre Can (ankle) are all unavailable.

Ideye: I’ll be fine before Saturday

Just like West Bromwich Albion manager, Alan Irvine said earlier that Brown Ideye’s injury was not serious, the player himself has revealed that it’s not that serious as earlier thought.

Ideye got his first goal for West Brom in a Capital One Cup match against Hull City. His goal came in the 15th minute and his celebration alongside his team mates showed how important that goal is to the Nigerian.

Ideye took to Twitter to reveal around 11:49am that he hopes to be fine before the Baggies next game and also appreciated his fans.

@OfficialIdeye: Thanks everyone for the love, my injury is not that serious, hopefully I will be fine before the next game, thanks once again #GreatGod,” Ideye tweeted.

West Bromwich Albion manager, Irvine had earlier said that he doesn’t think the injury to Ideye was that serious.

“We are still waiting to assess the damage but we do not think it is too serious at this stage.”said Irvine

    • Suffers foot injury

Out-of-favour Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye scored his first ever goal for English Premier League (EPL) side West Bromwich Albion last night against Hull City in the Capital One Cup.

A dramatic finish saw West Brom progress to the last 16 of the Cup tie, with Ideye and club-record signing putting the Baggies ahead from close range after 15 minutes.  Unfortunately, he injured his left foot in the process and was soon forced off.

The visitors then turned the game around thanks to goals from Tom Ince and Robbie Brady either side of half-time.

However, Albion snatched a place in the next round when Berahino produced a neat finish from an acute angle after Gareth McAuley had volleyed home the equaliser.

The match ended 3-2 against Hull City.

    Ideye sends support to Eagles

Despite not making the team, Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has sent a message of support to the team after their embarrassing 2-3 home loss to Congo on Saturday.

It was the first hurdle for Nigeria on their way to defending the African title they won last year in South Africa, but obviously the story didn’t go according to script.

And Ideye, who was completely ignored by Stephen Keshi for selection for the qualifiers, has  supported the team.

“Head up guys, look forward to the next game and make us proud ?,” he said via his twitter account.

Ideye, who was a member of the 2013 AFCON winning team, has surprisingly been overlooked from recent squads and even missed out on the World Cup despite playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s qualification.

The 25-year- old moved to West Bromwich Albion this summer for a club record £10m fee from Ukrainian giants, Dynamo Kiev.

    • As West Bromwich Albion progress

Brown Ideye missed his penalty during a tense shoot out as West Bromwich Albion progressed to the League Cup third round on Tuesday.

He played the entire game as West Brom defeated Oxford United 7-6 on penalties.

The Nigeria international striker was making his first start for West Brom after completing a £10 million move in the summer from Ukrainian club, Dynamo Kyiv.

With the scores tied at 1-1 after regulation time, it went down to the lotteries and Ideye, who took West Brom’s second penalty of the day failed from 12 yards but his miss did not prove fatal.

The Baggies recovered to win 7-6 with Jason Davidson burying the vital kick.

The West Brom manager, Alan Irvine said he was disappointed with his charges’ performance.

“I’m disappointed with the performance overall, having not been disappointed with the previous two games where I’ve been pleased with what I’ve seen,” Irvine told the club’s official website, www.wba.co.uk.

Irvine further noted that the game represented very good work out for Ideye and a few others who needed important minutes under their belts.

“I must consider how many players needed the game.

“The over-riding emotion is relief. I’m pleased to get through but disappointed too about some things we did as the game went on, particularly late in the second half.

“I’ve told the players I’m pleased we’re through – but we made very hard work of it, having been in a good position. We have to make sure we stop conceding late goals.

“It happened last year and it has to stop,” he said.

    WBA manager praises Ideye

West Bromwich Abion manager, Alan Irvine, has praised Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye after he made his English Premier League debut in the goalless draw at Southampton on Saturday.

The Albion record signing twice came close to opening his account in the match.

Ideye, who came on for the injured Victor Anichebe, almost grabbed a winner for the Baggies – turning Jose Fonte, only to see his shot well saved by Fraser Forster, africanFootball.com reports.

“Ideye is a good finisher. It was a good save, but I expected him to score,” africanFootball.com quoted Irvine as saying after the match.

“But we saw his biggest thing. He has good movement, he’s different to Victor Anichebe in that respect. He likes to make those runs, get behind people. We saw a glimpse of what he can bring us.

    “Full marks to him.

“He’s done very little training, he’s had no pre-season.”

  • Ideye in line for EPL debut

Ideye in line for EPL debut

Nigeria striker Brown Ideye is in line to make his English Premier League debut at Southampton today.

Ideye, who is so far the biggest Nigeria signing in Europe this summer, was an unused substitute when West Bromwich Albion drew 2-2 at home with Sunderland on the opening day of the EPL last weekend.

Compatriot Victor Anichebe played the full game against Sunderland.

Ideye missed Nigeria’s cut for the recent World Cup, but he cost ‘The Baggies’ a club record fee of about 10 million pounds when he moved from top Ukrainian club Dynamo Kiev.

Fellow Nigeria stars Nwankwo Kanu and Osaze Odemwingie made a success of their time at WBA.

A delay in the issuance of his entry visa and work permit meant he missed West Brom pre-season build-up.

He has also featured in Switzerland and France.

  • Ideye confirmed for Sunderland game

    Ideye confirmed for Sunderland game

Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye’s fitness has impressed West Brom manager Alan Irvine and he confirmed Ideye is in his thoughts for today’s game with Sunderland.

The Nigerian arrived in England just a week ago and he has shown his intent to get things started in the English Premier League.

“Brown’s in our thoughts for the weekend, without any question,” said Irvine.

“He’s been here less than week, so it will be a big ask if we do decide to put him in.But I’ve been really pleased with the level of his fitness.

“Because he hasn’t had a full pre-season,he isn’t where I’d expect him to get to.

“But he has certainly come in good condition and has looked after himself.”

Irvine,on the other hand,is a little careful at throwing the club record signing, Ideye into action but noted that it’s important to know the right time to introduce him at this stage.

“I’m sure the fans will look forward to seeing him and it’s important we pick the right moments to put him in and look after him in these first few weeks,” added Irvine.

“There is a danger of asking him to do too much too soon and then risking him getting injured.”

The former Ocean Boys striker,Ideye got an hour early in the week and scored twice in a behind closed door U-21 friendly with Nottingham Forest.

Irvine shared his observation about Ideye.

“In terms of match fitness he’s not where we’d like him to be. He’s looking fitter by the day. He’s a good athlete anyway,” he said.

“He’s not somebody I think who has great difficulties getting fit. He’s just not had that much time.

“So I’ve been pleased with what I’ve seen considering how late Brown came in.”
