WBA manager rules out Ideye sale

Manager of West Bromwich Albion, Tony Pulis, has ruled out any potential summer sale of record signing, Brown Ideye, following the Nigerian’s fine goal scoring run since Pulis took over the reins at the Hawthorns.

Ideye was reportedly close to joining a Qatari club- Al-Gharafa during the January transfer window, but the move failed to materialize and since then the 26- year old has experienced a turnaround in his form and has scored four goals from his last three games, sl10.ng reports.

However, there are still talks of a potential sale of the player in the summer, a report which Pulis shut down completely when he was asked during his pre match conference, ahead of the Baggies weekend game against Sunderland.

“He has certainly looked like a player we want in the last couple of weeks. It is just confidence. He has scored a couple of goals and the weight of pressure and expectation on his shoulders, with the fee and coming into a new country, a new football club, it has taken all that weight off him. We are delighted,”  Pulis said.

When asked if there was still a chance Ideye could move on in the summer, the manager said: “I have not even thought about it. The only thing on my mind is going up to the Stadium of Light on Saturday and trying to get a result up there, which we know will be very difficult.”

  • Ideye sets tone for Baggies full recovery

With successive strikes for the Baggies in the Premier League, Nigeria International attacker, Brown Ideye has suggested struggling West Brom will steady themselves back into the clear with a focused vision and vital wins.

In a chat with www.footballlive.ng the in-form 26-year-old has underlined the need for focus, hard work and wins as the way to go.

” We just have to be focused, be calm. We have to be forward-looking, put some hard work in while winning games and picking vital points, that’s what we need right now.”

The forward has helped Tony Pulis’ side pick 4 points in two games. He came of the bench on Sunday to get the equalizer against Burnley in the 67th minute and was rewarded with a starter’s place against Swansea 3 days later.

He didn’t disappoint as he delivered in the second half with a 60th minute strike and an assist for club top scorer this season, Saido Berahino (10).

Ideye hopes late form could save Albion career

SuperEagles and West Brom flop, Brown Ideye has said he will continue to take each match one at a time as he continues to be linked with a move away from The Hawthorns during this winter transfer window.

Ideye arrived from Russia to become West Brom’s record signing last summer but has not lived up to the billing and has not justified the £10m spent on him.

In a chat with footballlive.ng, the 26-year-old said he wants to score in every match for Albion as well as work hard for the team and then see what happens in the summer.

“As for me, I take each game as it comes and my best is to score in each and every game just like every striker. I want to put that challenge on myself and work hard for the team and believe that things will work out well.”

Albion are 14th on the EPL log with 22 points from 22 matches played so far this season. At The Hawthorns, West Brom will host Tottenham Hotspurs in the EPL and Ideye will try to put his words into practice.

    Pulis stands by Ideye

Nigeria international striker, Brown Ideye has received words of praise from the West Bromwich Albion manager, Tony Pulis.

Ideye has come under harsh criticism in recent days following several underwhelming performances for the Potters.

Pulis has now revealed that Ideye has been looking extremely sharp in training and expects the 26-year-old to come good soon.

The gaffer highlighted Ideye’s performance against Hull City last Saturday when he missed a sitter that caused discontent among some sections of the team’s support.

“I thought he worked really hard. It would have been great if he could have got that goal to go with the performance, but he has been great in training since and his finishing has been good,” Pulis told E&S.

Ideye has scored just one Premier League goal this season despite being the club’s record signing after he joined Ukrainian club, Dynamo Kyiv for £10m.

Pulis readily acknowledges that signing for such big money puts the Nigerian under immense pressure.

“The transfer fee certainly doesn’t help with the pressure, but he has done well since I’ve been here. Now he just needs a goal to get him going, and hopefully he can get it soon,” he said.

    West Brom fans slam Ideye

A section of the West Bromwich Albion support appears to have run out of patience with the club’s Nigerian striker, Brown Ideye.

Ideye, WBA’s record signing from Ukrainian club, Dynamo Kyiv, has yet to hit expected heights with just one Premier League goal to his name this season.

The attacker failed to score in WBA’s latest Premier League game, a 1-0 win over Hull City at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

He missed a glorious chance on 42 minutes when he dragged his effort wide with just the Hull City goalkeeper to beat after he was put through by Saido Berahino.

Speaking after the game, the WBA manager, Tony Pulis, spoke about Ideye’s miss and the need for improvements to be made by every member of his squad.

“We had good chances in the first half and never took them. A lot of things (in our performance) pleased me today but there are a load of things we can work on,” he said.

Some fans of the club were however not quite as charitable and took to Twitter to voice their frustrations.

Adam Stevens attempted to draw comparisons between Ideye and the day’s match winner, Berahino as he tactfully made his point.

“No one can try and fool #WBA fans as to Berahino’s price. We’ve seen that 10 mil buys you an Ideye, so you can at least treble that for Said,” he tweeted via @AdamLibertyLies.

Simon Kendrik summed up his feelings thus: “I’ve hoped and hoped that Ideye would prove us all wrong at some point. Today has extinguished that hope. #wba,” via @billybassett68.

Martin Eaglestone posited that the former Sochaux man is not a striker with his tweet. “Seems Ideye is out to prove, beyond doubt, he is not a striker. #wba go prove me wrong –please,” he wrote via @Carrageryr.

The man at the centre of the storm, Ideye, seems to be taking it all in his stride as he also took to Twitter immediately after the game.

“We really appreciate all the support from everyone in the stadium today especially the WBA fans, very important 3point today,” he tweeted via @OfficialIdeye.

Ideye, the club’s record signing, has scored once in 11 league appearances for WBA this  season.

Ideye vows to score more for West Brom

Following the appointment of Tony Pulis as the new West Bromwich Albion manager, Nigeria striker Brown Ideye has vowed to improve his goals tally for the Baggies.

The 26-year old has scored just two goals for West Brom in all competitions this season, despite arriving for a club record 10 million pounds last summer from Ukrainian giants, Dynamo Kiev.

However, following the sacking of the man who brought him to the club, Alan Irvine, and the appointment of Tony Pulis, Ideye reckons he must start scoring more goals.

“I have to take each game as it comes, but my aim is to score in every match. As a striker you want to score in every game and I am now challenging myself and I must work very hard for the team and score more goals,” Ideye told Brila FM.

But despite his ambition to improve on his goals, the Super Eagles striker also reckoned that they must start winning games, adding that it is the most important thing for him and his teammates.

“The most important thing is to try and win every game and we must take every game as they come,” he reckoned.

Ideye has had a slow start to life at the Hawthorns, as he has struggled with injuries and loss of form and has failed to inspire the Baggies, who currently lie 17th on the English Premier League table with 18 points from 20 matches.

Ideye promises son a goal against QPR

Super Eagles and West Bromwich Albion striker, Brown  Ideye has promised his son, Brown Junior a goal if he plays against Queens Park Rangers.

The official club website reports that the Nigeria international, Ideye promised his son a goal in his next outing. The Nigerian is yet to score in the Premier League since he joined West Brom but the comfort of having his family around him will help him adjust to life in England.

Ideye now hopes to reward his son with a goal if he gets to play a part when West Bromwich Albion face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

“It is very important for me to have my family here. I am happy that things are working out for me”, said Ideye.

“He (Brown Junior) always wanted to see the dressing rooms so I had to take him in to see it. He is happy that we won but he was disappointed that I didn’t score, so I have told him I will score next time.

Ideye, who scored 33 goals in 74 games while at his previous club in Ukraine, Dynamo Kyiv got his first Premier League start and he was pleased his team got the maximum point.

“I knew how important the game was for us as players and also for the fans, so I am very happy that we won because I couldn’t imagine not winning. I was happy that I was in the first XI. I was always hungry to start for West Brom and I always give my best. Ideye stated.

“Sometimes it’s difficult but I have to keep on pushing and working hard for the team. I’m getting closer to my best. I have had a lot of things to deal with so I just have to be focused.

“The gaffer said he wanted me to work hard and at times it has been difficult for me to adapt to the system that the team plays. I have to adjust to what I have to do when the team is playing, but right now I think I’m there and I am just working hard now,” Ideye said.

  • Irvine happy with Ideye’s progress

    Irvine happy with Ideye’s progress

West Bromwich Albion boss, Alan  Irvine, has been delighted with Brown Ideye’s progress in recent weeks.

The Nigerian striker has struggled to make an impact at the Hawthornes since arriving from Dynamo Kiev in the summer and has only scored once for the Baggies. However, the West Brom boss reveals he has looked sharp in recent weeks.

“He’s actually trained the best he has trained in the last couple of weeks. That’s not in terms of his application, which has always been good, but in terms of his effectiveness,” Irvine told Birmingham Mail.

“So he’s certainly looking more like what we would hope he would look. He has scored goals in training. There was a time when he was struggling to do that. And I think he is feeling a lot better about himself.”

Ideye bagged a brace in West Brom’s 5-2 friendly win over Northampton on Tuesday night, while they face Aston Villa at home on Saturday.
