  • Ideye gets nickname at WBA

Brown Ideye has been given the nickname of ‘Bobby’ at West Bromwich Albion shortly after joining the club in a record breaking move.

Although the Nigeria international is yet to link up with most of his teammates who are currently on tour at the United States, the players at the club are already welcoming Ideye with open arms.

“We saw a tweet from Brown Ideye, who joined from Dynamo Kiev on Friday, stating he wants to be known here as ‘Bobby’,” Gareth McAuley wrote on West Brom’s official website.

“Dozza [Graham Dorrans ] caused much amusement when he suggested Bobby should be shortened to the Scottish version of Robert…so Brown’s been christened ‘Rab’!

“That works for me. We intellectually-challenged footballers always shorten names…as they’re easier to remember!

“Joking aside, it’s big news when a club breaks their transfer record and we’re looking forward to working with Brown when we return to the UK.”

    • Denies having problems with Mbokani

Super Eagles and Dynamo Kyiv striker, Brown Ideye has said he is a happy man at his Ukrainian club.

Ideye told newsmen Saturday that he has no issues with his club, and will continue to give his best to ensure that he plays regularly and delivers goals, ahead of the FIFA Brazil 2014 World Cup later this year.

“I have a good relationship with everybody in my team: the players, the coaches and the club president.

“Leaving the club right now is not an issue. I have a lot to play for at the club, and I can only put all my focus there to get to the next level.

“I am also aware of a story on the internet quoting me as being disgruntled with the club. That’s not the truth, I was grossly misquoted: but I will not bother about that. I have a mission and right now it is with Dynamo Kviv,” he added.

The former Sochaux striker also has asserted that Congolese forward, Dieumerci Mbokani is his friend, and what exists between them at Dynamo Kyiv is only friendly, healthy competition.

The media became awash with stories of discord, after the club signed Mbokani from Anderlecht last year, reducing the first team starts of Ideye who still insists that had not affected his relationship with the club or his team mates.

“Mbokani is my friend and we are very close. I agree I always want to play and every footballer wants to play.

“So, does it bother me that I do not start as often as I want? I will say, yes it does because, naturally every footballer wants to play games.

“When I first joined this club, the great Andreiv Shevchenko was here and I was starting ahead of him, yet he kept encouraging me and it brought out no bad blood.

“I therefore do not see why I cannot do the same and encourage Mbokani now he is starting ahead of me.

“It is not an issue for me. It is football and these things happen. Mbokani is a good guy and we have a good relationship. This rivalry will only make us work harder and it is the club that will benefit from it,” he said.

Ideye was the top scorer for the Ukrainian side in the 2012/2013 season, and contributed to the side when called upon this term, before the Ukrainian league went on winter break.

  • Ideye wants to quit Dynamo

    Ideye wants to quit Dynamo

Nigerian striker, Brown Ideye has exclusively told supersport.com that he wants to leave Ukrainian club, Dynamo Kyiv.

Ideye joined Dynamo Kyiv from French club, Sochaux on June 30, 2011 for €9 million (about N2 billion) and has repaid the favour with 31 league goals in two and a half season at the club.

The arrival to Kyiv, at the start of the 2013/14 season, of Congo DR striker, Dieumerci Mbokani has however restricted Ideye to just a handful of appearances for the club in all competitions this season and the Nigerian attacker believes it’s time for him to move on.

“I have worked hard for Dynamo Kyiv. I scored 12 league goals in my first season at the club and 17 goals last season. The coach (Oleg Blohkin) knows what I can do but since I am no longer getting the opportunities I deserve, I believe it’s time for me to pack my bags and leave,” Ideye told supersport.com.

Mbokani has scored eight league goals this season but Ideye, who has netted just twice in the league, hinted that he deserves to start ahead of the Congolese forward.

“He (Mbokani) has made 17 league appearances so far this season while I have only started three games. Why would he not score more than me when he plays more? The fact that I even managed to score two goals under such conditions is a testament to my ability.

“I don’t think I have been treated fairly because Mbokani, with due respect has not achieved what I have in the game.

“I am a Nations Cup winner with Nigeria, I have played at the FIFA Confederations Cup and will hopefully play at the 2014 FIFA World Cup if God permits; Mbokani has not.

“They are only giving him more playing time because they spent a lot of money bringing him to the club and will want to justify the transfer fee.

“I have given my blood and sweat to Dynamo Kyiv. It was my goal that helped the club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League last season so to be treated like this is just not right,” he said.

The forward, who previously played for Nigerian club, Ocean Boys before sealing a deal with Swiss Super League club, Neuchâtel Xamax in 2007, said he had discussed the situation with the Dynamo Kyiv president, Ihor Sukis.

Ideye revealed that the club president promised that they would let him leave if they receive a “good offer” for his services.

“I had a serious but honest discussion with the president and we reached a mutual agreement.

“He said I will be allowed to leave if the club receives a good offer but you know how these things work; nothing is decided until a deal is actually reached.

“To be honest, I think it will be hard for the club to let me leave right now because Mbokani is currently serving a ban but I have told them to buy another striker as my replacement if I eventually leave,” he said.

Ideye has played 23 times for Nigeria at senior level and has scored five goals for the Super Eagles.

“It was a good game. Both sides struggled for qualification for the next stage. We had to complete this task in the last match of group stage. We conceded early in the game, but I’m thankful to the players for demonstrating their character. They fought till the end and managed to win.”

Speaking further, Blokhin stressed that he is looking foward to have some time off in the coming days.

“I guess I want to have rest. I also wish my family all the best,” Blokhin added.
