    Online retail giant, Jumia Nigeria has announced that it will offer a-70 per cent discount on regular prices for this year’s Black Friday sales.

    This year’s Black Friday will take place for 12 days between November 14and25 on all Jumia websites–Jumia Mall, Jumia Food, Jumia Car, Jumia Market, Jumia Travel, Jumia House and Jumia Deals.

    Top brands such as AXA Mansard, MTN, Binatone, Innjoo, Infinix, Poly Star, HP, Intel, Etihad airways have partnered with Jumia to bring to Nigerians the largest shopping event of the year.

    According to a statement endorsed by the Public Relations, Jumia Nigeria, Olaolu Oloyede Black Friday shoppers should expect 12 days of promotional deals; increased sales inventory in all categories including: fashion, electronics, phones, computers, home, baby, health and beauty – up to 70 per cent discount of regular prices; over 100,000 deals from 2,500 vendors; and highlight offerings from brands such asPolyStar, HP, Binatone, Nikon, Pampers and Apple.

    Jumia Travel, an online hotel-booking company, has launched the web version of the Extranet App, an application that aims to give more flexibility and independence to hotel managers. Through this channel, the firm seeks to further empower its hotel partners across all markets with top-notch technology. The tool, which allows hotel managers to confirm and view their in-coming Jumia Travel reservations, change their rates and update availability of room, is available on Android phones and its operating system.

    According to the Chief Operating Officer at Jumia Travel, Charles de Moucheron, the portal is working on direct integration with existing partners hotel systems to manage bookings, update rates and availability. “After integrating the first channel managers in May 2016, we are now integrating multiple hospitality software solutions for our hotels partners to work better with us. The Web Extranet is built on the latest technology that delivers the shortest loading time currently available in the market. This is customised to accommodate even markets where internet speed is still limited,” he said.

    The new version is a progressive application which delivers an app-like experience to the user. With a market that is highly characterised by a “mobile-first” adaptation, the tool is mobile-optimised, which means the app size can adapt to any screen size; be it on the mobile, smartphone, tablet or desktop.

    “It’s like giving me the total control of my hotel on your platform on the go, anywhere I am in the world,” Jadas Jean, General Manager, Ibis Hotel, Lagos Ikeja.     A new energy drink, Kabisa, has entered the beverage market with a mind-set of providing soul soothing and satisfying human thirst, according to Mr Tomasz Nowowiejski, producer and promoter of the product.

    Nowowiejski, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mutalo Group and former MD for Kaymu, says Kabisa energy drink promises to rule the beverage market with its natural flavours designed, specifically to suit African taste.

    The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has named African Internet Group, which re-branded to Jumia, amongst the world’s 50 Smartest Companies for 2016.

    MIT editors picked 50 companies worldwide that best combine innovative technology with effective business models, taking into account the results emanating from a set of agenda in their respective sectors over the past 12 months. Jumia, the only e-commerce company in Africa to have made the list, ranks no.47 amongst other tech giants like Amazon, Huawei, Facebook, Microsoft and more. Ranked just after social media phenomenon Snapchat, Jumia (formerly Africa Internet Group) is recognised by MIT as a leader in its sector, using technology to redefine multiple industries.

    Through its 9 services, Jumia provides online solutions to the African consumer in an array of sectors: hospitality, food, general merchandise, electronics, fashion, deals, jobs, cars and houses.

    The general merchandise online retail store Jumia, which bears the flagship name, as a true game changer, redefining the way African consumers shop.     JUMIA robbery: Police bust gang

    The police have smashed the gang that allegedly robbed the Festac branch of a popular online retailer, JUMIA, last October.

    It was busted following a tip-off received by the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) that a member of the gang identified as Ogaga Pemu had arranged with someone to service his operational German pistol marked DO-94894891-COLT, and also provide magazines for the weapon.

    Pemu was tracked and arrested at Joe Baddy Hotel in Mende, Maryland.

    He allegedly confessed to a series of armed robberies in Lagos including the October 29 attack on the online firm’s warehouse in Festac where the gang looted N1.2 million cash, phones, laptops and clothes.

    Pemu’s confession led to the arrest of two siblings, Yohanna and Hosea Daniel who worked for JUMIA as store keeper and driver.

    According to Pemu, Yohanna provided his gang information on JUMIA in exchange for N200,000.

    He said: “We were six that participated in the robbery. Myself, Daniel the store keeper and his older brother, Hosea. Don Domie, Chris and another guy.

    “We got N1.2million. I gave Hosea N400,000 for him and his brother. Their share was N200,000 each. I took N250,000, gave Don and Chris N200,000 each and gave the other guy who was a new person N150,000.

    “That operation was my fourth. I was arrested first and then I told the police how to get them and they were also arrested. But the other members have fled.”

    Parading the suspects on Friday, Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni said two locally made pistols, two cartridges and a locally-made magazine with two .9mm live ammunition were also recovered from the gang.

    He said a laptop was also found with them, adding that investigation was on to arrest the fleeing members.
