Kumuyi urges love between Christians, Muslim faithful

The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Kumuyi, has called on the Christians and Muslim faithful in the country to love and live in harmony with one another.

He made the call on Monday night in Port Harcourt during a Global Conference organised by the Change Makers International (CMI).

Kumuyi, who is the Founder and Convener of CMI, said that the conference, with the theme, “Driving positive change and social impact, was to bring the consciousness of the people to becoming change agents in Nigeria.

Speaking on “The call and the commission of a change maker”, he outlined the response and responsibility of a change maker with reference to Luke 10:39.

He also listed the role and roles of a change maker, the rule and reign of the Almighty change maker.

Kumuyi said: “We should respond to our responsibility to love our neighbours as was commanded by God.

“Lift up your neighbours, assist and care for them.”

He asked: “How do we say that we love God when we don’t care for our neighbours?

“Who are our neighbours? Christians and Muslims are our neighbours.

“We are created by God, we have the same father, we have the same flesh and blood that runs through us.

“Christians and muslims should give one another a sense of belonging.

“Our neighbours are not only those who are in the same religious faith with us.

“We should help each other,” Kumuyi said, adding that people should help to pay their neighbour’s child’s school fees, if they have.

“We should have compassion for our neighbours as change makers.

“The need of our neighbours that are in pain, crisis, or sick should be important to us than where we are going.

“Think through life, if you are in a painful situation like your neighbour, what would you like your neighbour to do for you.

“Do to others what you want them to do for you.”

“Call your neighbours together, and while you are talking with them, give them food, if you have, before you start preaching to them the gospel because Jesus christ is a well rounded person who understood who his neighbour was,” he said,

Kumuyi advised Nigerians to understand their neighbours and do to them as Jesus Christy did to the multitude who came to him (Job 29 to 17).

“If you are not a hearer and doer of the word of God then you are not righteous (Matthew 25 to 43).

“Don’t look at religion or tribe, look at everyone as Jesus Christ did and do good to them (Rev 7 :9 to17).

“We should not rule over people but we have to be servants for our people and allow God to be the ruler (Psalm 146:10).

“We need to be inventors, our lives should be attractive to others.

“Teach everyone how to become better, be a man, a woman available to lift people and make a change.

“Be you doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your own self.”

Kumuyi admonishes mothers, girls to be virtuous, purposeful in life

The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Kumuyi, has admonished mothers and girls to be virtuous, value-driven and purposeful in life.

Kumuyi gave the advice on Friday night during a Global Women’s Conference organised in Port Harcourt by the Change Makers International (CMI).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the six-day conference is, “Driving positive change and social impact”.

Kumuyi, who is the Convener of CMI, spoke on the importance of recreating purposeful-driven change makers.

He said that society needs God-fearing people to be agents of change.

According to him, if everyone in society can change, the country will be a better place.

He asked, “Who can find a virtuous woman, who can free a victimised woman, who can form a value driven woman?”

The clergyman further said that virtuous women are found in every community as long as they make themselves available, as seen in Proverbs 31:16.

He also said that God can form a value-driven woman and free a victimised woman.

“Many people have victimisation syndrome, they are tied down and conditioned like that.

“Anybody can tell stories of their accusers and people that conditioned them a certain way through their words and pointing fingers of accusation.

“Accusation is not condemnation, conditioning your mind as a victim keeps you stagnant, changing that mindset will set you thousands of miles from where you are.

“Walk away from accusation and abuse from those who condemn you, John 8:10 and 11,” Kumuyi said.

He advised young girls to make themselves different in their ways, sacrifice their time to study and develop themselves.

Earlier, the President, Rivers Women University Association and Guest Speaker at the event, Uchenda Okogbule, spoke on “Breaking barriers, turning adversities into opportunity”.

Okogbule said that “break” could mean separation from barriers, while barriers are materials that want to block one’s ways.

She also said that “turning” could mean changing a direction, while opportunity also means a chance to advancement or progress or success.

She listed some of the barriers to include cultural, religious, political and social-economic.

Okogbule gave instances of barriers as gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, widowhood practices, segregation in worship places and child marriage, amongst others.

She also talked about political barriers, saying that women were not allowed to participate deeply in politics.

“These are dehumanising practices in our society,” she further said.

She advised women not to consider themselves helpless and hopeless, rather should pursue education, knowledge and be a support system to one another.

“Women should refuse to be used for harmful practices against one another.

“Women should go on advocacy in their various communities and speak against these barriers to build better families and nation at large,” Okogbule said.

The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Kumuyi, has advised women to be positive attitudinal change agents in nation building.

Kumuyi gave the advice on Thursday night during a Global Women’s Conference held in Port Harcourt.

He said that the six-day conference was organised by the Change Makers International Initiative (CMI), with the theme, “Driving positive change and social impact”.

The cleric, who is the Convener of CMI, described the conference as a non-religious, non-partisan, non-denominational movement driven by a passion to achieve positive change and social impact in the country.

According to him, change means the act of people moving from one level of life to another to achieve positive economic or social development.

He outlined some of the principles of positive change to include righteousness, saying that righteousness exalts a nation (Proverbs 14 verse 34).

He also listed intelligence,  watchful, thinkers, protection, strategic thoughtful times, reliable supporters, objective optimists, transformational and exemplary teachers, or leaders, and hopeful helpers, amongst others.

Kumuyi urged women to be change makers, saying that “change makers follow righteousness in their families, markets, communities, workplaces and society, at large.

“Change makers are thinkers, they are action people, they are intelligent, they know what to do and when to do them, they are watchful people, they think of how to protect,  provide, unite, and save their families, their communities and their nation.

“As a change maker, you must keep your emotions in control, you must make a change for your country,  you must be a reliable supporter, a strategic thoughtful-minded person, you must be an exemplary educator and a resilient trainer.

“When we endeavour to make a change in our families, market places, workplaces and our communities, our country will change.

“We have to look inwards in our lives and make changes that will impact on our nation,” Kumuyi said.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice in Rivers, Charity Clapton-Ogolo, spoke about needed skills for change and impact in society.

She urged mothers to learn the use of technology to be able to know what their children are doing on the internet.

Clapton-Ogolo, who is also the Solicitor-General of the state, tasked women on personal development, how to manage their emotions, adapt to change and thinking outside the box.

“We have to work on our relationship and family ties, we have to be involved in leadership and advocacy in our various communities, we have to keep the standard of God.

“We have to be economically empowered, learn to give and not always receiving.

“We have to embrace the 21st Century technology and always speak the truth from the house to the society, if we must make a change,” she said.

Also, an Environmental Activist, Ankio Brings, said that women have all kinds of knowledge needed to make the necessary change in society.

Briggs appealed to government at all levels to involve women in decision making.

According to her, women are change makers, we are created to be part of those that will make better changes in Nigeria.

“Women have to encourage their children to make a change in the country, the break down of family values will break down the society.

“When we leave our children to be raised by house helps, they influence them and sometimes they lose their values,” she further said.

Briggs urged mothers to keep close eyes on their children, keep them in a crechè close to their workplace or business areas and live exemplary lives that the children would emulate.

He said that the programme, tagged: Driving Positive Change and Social Impact, was for humanity and would make the world and the community better.

“Nigeria’s well documented social, economic and moral problems are impacting all aspects of the country.

“The stark reality of the situation is that all hands must be on deck to effect needed changes; otherwise, the society will continue to suffer,” Kumuyi said.

The cleric said the group would not blame anyone for the past failures, rather call for a better change, a fresh understanding, and fresh service to the people.

According to him, while pointing fingers will not solve the problems, only positive change will heal the nation.

He said: “When we say that there should be a change, there could be different methods of bringing up the change.

“The young and older people, even the government, may have different views, but we must agree to a positive change.

“If we can harness all efforts and energy together, not trying to defeat or crush anyone, the youths, government and everyone, knowing that we all have the rights constitutionally to bring a change, we all must strategise at a round table to have direction to follow and achieve positive change.”

Kumuyi urges nation’s youths to embrace dialogue for positive change

The General Suprintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Kumuyi, has urged the youths to dialogue with the Federal Government to achieve positive socio-economic impact change in the country.

Kumuyi made the call on Wednesday in an interactive session with newsmen on arrival at the Port Harcourt Airport for a six-day programme in the city, organised by the Change Makers International Initiative (CMII).

The cleric, who is the Convener of CMII, described the programme as a non-religious, non-partisan, non-denominational movement, driven by a passion to achieve positive change and create social impact in Nigeria.

“The aimed is to accomplish positive change in the lives of  Nigerians, irrespective of their backgrounds, to make them effect desired social and spiritual transformation.

“Nigeria’s well documented social, economic and moral problems are impacting all aspects of the country.

“The stark reality of the situation is that all hands must be on deck to effect needed changes, otherwise, the society will continue to suffer.

“We see that every individual, every family and every institution can do better and if we all do better in various areas, relationships, interaction at our work places, our colleges, everywhere, there will be a change in the nation and it doesn’t take mighty efforts.

“Little drops of water make a mighty ocean and, if we can begin the change here as individuals, as families, then carry the change to our offices and everywhere, all that we are mourning and groaning about will turn around for the better,” Kumuyi said.

He said that the group would not blame anyone for the past failures, rather wants a change for the better, a fresh understanding, and fresh service to the people.

According to him, pointing accusing fingers will not solve the problems, rather positive change will heal the nation.

“When we say that there should be a change, there could be different methods of bringing up the change.

“I also think that when we love one another and respect and honour one another, we’ll be able to sit down without any kind of grievances or retaliation or destroying anything, all we want is a better country and we will have it.

“I might have to change in my attitude, I might have to change my mindset, I might have to change a lot of things and when those changes come together they change a person, they change his interaction, relationships.

“And when those changes are made, we see a national change,  we see a community change and we go ahead to see global change.

“Just like the ripple effect, when each of our lights shine, it makes us see more light.

“What we see will also lead to what we do and what we do will also bring the change, it’s a kind of chain reaction,” Kumuyi further said.

Kumuyi urges govt to make palliatives real for suffering Nigerians

The General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Dr. William Kumuyi, has advised the government to be sensitive and reduce the stress of suffering Nigerians, counseling those in authority to be practical in palliatives.

He also urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be drowned in the ocean of distress occasioned by the unfavourable situations in the country, but to raise their heads, float, and be profitably engaged despite all odds.

He made the call at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre, Mowe, Ogun State, during the opening ceremony of the December edition of Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK) with the theme: ‘Emmanuel;’ which commenced December 21 to run through to December 26 alongside the Youth Impact fixed for Tuesday, December 26.

Kumuyi tasked church leaders to help their needy members at this crucial time when things are hard and not just focus on evangelism and other church programmes.

“It is good we evangelise, but pastors and leaders should equally look into the problems of their members and see whatever the church can do to help them.  The Church should exert its efforts and spend some of her resources in the Church to help their needy members” he said.

    • ‘Blessing gay marriage against God’s law, cultural sensibilities’

Same-sex marriage is not in tandem with biblical tenets and teaching of Jesus Christ, the General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has said.

Kumuyi was reacting to the approval of the Vatican giving priests the permission to bless same-sex union across the world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a joint global crusade with Kumuyi and the 2023 National December Retreat, tagged: Emmanuel, Kumuyi noted that the commandment of Jesus Christ was for a man to get married to a woman and not same-sex marriage.

“The Lord Jesus Christ told us before he left that we should go to the world, teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. He even says heaven and earth shall pass away but his words will not pass away.

“We stand in obedience to Christ and submissive to Him and we carry on the works of Christ that said a man and a woman should be joined together in marriage until death do us part,” he said.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) yesterday took the same position as Kumuyi.

The bishops said the recent pronouncement of the Pope on same-sex marriage does not change the Catholic Church’s teaching on marriage.

The bishops were also reacting to the Fiducia Supplicans released by the Vatican, which has created confusion among Christians and the Catholic faithful.

In a statement by the President of CBCN, Bishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, and the Secretary, Bishop Donatus Ogun, the bishops said: “The Declaration acknowledges and carefully distinguishes between ritual, liturgical, and informal blessings.

“While ritual or liturgical blessings are imparted according to the established norms of the Church, informal blessings refer to prayers over people who ask for them outside the liturgy or any formal celebration in the Church.

“There is, therefore, no possibility in the Church of blessing same-sex unions and activities. That would go against God’s law, the teachings of the Church, the laws of our nation and the cultural sensibilities of our people.”
