Kwankwaso, NNPP orchestrated Ganduje’s purported suspension from APC – Basiru alleges

…says FG’s salary increment for workers well thought out

The national secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru on Wednesday, May 1, alleged that a former presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso and his party, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) are behind the purported suspension of the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Speaking during APC Osun Central Senatorial meeting held at the party Secretariat, Osogbo, Basics berated the purported suspension of Ganduje from the party, noting that it is handy work of dying political party.

He said: “The so-called suspension is orchestrated by Kwakwanso and his dying political party. It is not known to our party. The Kano High Court that gave the initial injunction had vacated the interim injunction.

“There is also a Federal High Court injunction that said that the position of the national chairman should continue pending the determination of the case and I’m also aware that the authentic exco of the party in that ward had petition the Inspector General to petition the act of criminality of those that forged and purported to be members and officials of the party. Even the so called spokesperson has a banner contesting for the position of councillor. So as far as I’m concerned, it is a circus put forward Kwakwanso and the dying drama of a drowning politician.”

Also, Basiru lauded President Tinubu over 25% and 35% increment of salary of workers, saying, “the increment of wage is well though out and it is something that is sustainable and it is a welcome development and to be able to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy.”

CSOs want Kwankwaso’s tenure as Kano Gov investigated

A coalition of Forty-five Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the auspices of Justice for All (JA) have given the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a 72 hours ultimatum to commence investigation into the eight year reign of the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The group said it has discovered that the immediate past government in Kano state led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje failed to investigate the Kwankwaso government, while the current government also has no plans to do so.

In a petition to the anti graft body signed by Auwalu Ibrahim and Dr. Dave Ogbole as chairman and co-chairman respectively, the group said the investigation has become necessary to ensure that the resources of the state are recovered in the interest of the people.

According to them, the EFCC investigation will help bridge the gap in ensuring that incidences of corruption under past administrations are investigated since the incumbent government is covering the years between Kwankwaso’s tenure and the present.

It reads: “Justice for All ( JA) is particularly demanding that the EFCC focuses attention on the management of local government allocation under Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s, internally generated revenue during his tenure and the utilisation of allocations from the Federation’s Account.

“In 2015 alone, the 44 Local Government Areas of the state received N107.29 billion in Federal Allocations but there is nothing on the ground that showed this amount was judiciously spent.

“The feelers in the state were that the council bosses at time remitted the money to the governor on his instructions.

“We are also seeking an investigation into the sales of Kano State Government’s assets especially the identities of those who bought the assets, the correct valuation of the assets as at the time of sale, confirmation that buyers paid for the assets, and how the proceeds from the sales of assets were spent.

“Our request for this investigation follows the discovery that the administration in question might have been involved in grand that allowed the resources of the state to be looted on a mind-boggling scale.

“We have cause to believe that Kwankwaso, his family members and associates might have illegally benefitted from this aberration.

“We have also noted that the state has not demonstrated a willingness to investigate the suspected corruption and theft of government resources by the past administration.

“The immediate past government of Abdullahi Ganduje failed to investigate Kwankwaso’s tenure(s) and the incumbent government of Governor Abba Yusuf has also not demonstrated a willingness to do so”.

The CSOs asked the EFCC to do all that is necessary to make the Kwankwaso administration accountable for how Kano State resources were managed during the tenure similar to how it has gone after the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

It said: “Justice for All (JA), hereby gives the EFCC a 48 hours ultimatum to open investigations into the tenure(s) of former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso given the serious allegations of corruption that have been levelled against his administration.

“We see this as a unique opportunity for your Commission to redeem itself as a non-politicised entity that acts on citizens’ petitions to investigate cases of corruption as opposed to being the wrong impression that people hold of the organization as an attack dog that the federal government set on those it is opposed to.

“As a show of good faith, we expect the EFCC to immediately freeze all accounts linked to Kwankwaso and his family until he returns every single penny taken from the treasure of Kano state”.

Kano: 45 CSOs ask EFCC to investigate, prosecute Kwankwaso

Forty-five Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on the platform of Justice for All (JA) have written the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the tenure of a former Kano Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with a view to prosecuting him if found wanting.

Kwankwaso, the current national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), governed Kano State from 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015.

Justice for All (JA), in a letter to the EFCC, co-signed by Auwalu Ibrahim and Dr. Dave Ogbole as chairman and co-chairman, respectively, on behalf of the 45 CSOs, said its call became necessary to ensure that the resources of Kano State are accounted for given the unprecedented hardship that the people of the state are facing.

The letter explained that the EFCC investigation being demanded would help bridge the gap in ensuring that incidences of corruption under past administrations are investigated since the incumbent state government is covering the years after Kwankwaso’s tenures.

The petition reads: “Justice for All ( JA) is particularly demanding that the EFCC focuses attention on the management of local government allocation under Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s, internally generated revenue during his tenure and the utilisation of allocations from the Federation’s Account.

“In 2015 alone, the 44 Local Government Areas of the state received N107.29 billion in Federal Allocations but there is nothing on the ground that showed this amount was judiciously spent. JA urged the EFCC to do all that is necessary to make the Kwankwaso administration accountable for how Kano State’s resources were managed during the tenure similar to how it has gone after the immediate-past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

Revisit Kwankwaso, Ganduje’s disagreement, Lukman appeals to Tinubu

A former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party in Nigeria, All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Moh. Lukman, has called on the party’s leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, to intervene in the political dispute between two former governors of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Lukman urged the leaders to revisit the issues that led to their disagreement and find a way to resolve the rift.

He said would be an opportunity to renew APC in Kano state and by extension northwest and the entire north.

Lukman’s position which was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, April 16, also advised the leadership of the party not to limit the engagement of issues surrounding all the political challenges facing APC as a party to only the issue of bribery allegation against Ganduje.

He said: “Being progressives requires honesty, which given the current political reality, we must accept that Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his NNPP have a stronger support base in Kano state. Noting that Sen. Kwankwaso was in our party up to 2018; and acknowledging that between 1999 and 2019 both Sen. Kwankwaso and Dr. Ganduje worked together, we need to revisit issues surrounding their disagreement.

“On no account should APC leaders limit the engagement of issues surrounding all the political challenges facing us as a party to only the issue of bribery allegation against Dr. Ganduje.

“If this means another round of negotiation for political alliance or a merger with Sen. Kwankwaso and NNPP, our leaders should proceed to act accordingly. President Tinubu and the APC must take full advantage of the current reality to renegotiate the support base of the APC.

“Renegotiating the support base of the APC should also be about reigniting the progressive credentials of the APC.”

The former Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), however, noted: “It is very painfully disturbing that unless this kind of opportunity is utilised to the fullest, based on which new actors such as Dr. Kwankwaso with a strong commitment to democracy based on principles are recruited into our party, the downward slide and retrogression towards conservatism and lawless management of the APC will continue.”

On allegations of corrupt charges against the party’s national chairman, Lukman said: “Without doubt, this situation presents an opportunity for President Tinubu to demonstrate his progressive and political dexterity. It is a low-hanging fruit, which, if properly managed could also save the politics of Dr. Ganduje.

“The hard truth is that, somehow, the politics of Kano state was mismanaged and as it is, if we were unable to win the election in Kano state when we were in control of the Kano state government, it would be foolhardy to imagine otherwise.

“APC leaders must be reminded that one of the promises in 2015 based on which Nigerians supported us and gave us the mandate to rule the country for the last nine years was the commitment to fight corruption. If there is any instance requiring us, as a party, to renew our commitment to fighting corruption, this is it. We must appeal to especially President Tinubu and all APC leaders not to consent to any action other than supporting Dr. Ganduje to take advantage of the current reality to clear his name.

Kwankwaso’s boys behind Ganduje’s purported suspension – Group

A support group of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Progressives Foundational Movement (PFM) has called for the immediate arrest of the mastermind of the purported suspension of the national chairman of APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in his ward.

The news of the purported suspension broke on Monday morning.

The group alleged that the purported suspension of Ganduje was traceable to the ruling party in the state.

Reacting to the development through a statement by its chairman, Emmanuel Aribigbe, in Abuja on Monday, the group noted that the faces of persons behind the suspension clearly showed that they were the moles within APC sponsored by the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state to destabilise APC.

The statement reads: “We can authoritatively report that the press conference which took place in Kano and not at the ward was by known members of the NNPP. The pertinent question is, how many ward executive officers were at the conference?

“These characteristics are known supporters of Engr Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is an arch-rival of our able national chairman.

“We, however, called on the security agencies to quickly order the arrest of the faces at the press conference and properly investigate their sponsors.

“Our national chairman has not committed any offence that should warrant suspension by the ward executive.

“We also call on all our members, the general public, and most especially the supporters of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje all over the world to be calm and ignore the failed coup by some enemies of democracy.”

Kano APC calls for Kwankwaso’s probe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano on Sunday called on the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the State Government of Abba Yusuf to also probe former Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso .

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry was set up by Yusuf to investigate the immediate past administration of Umar Ganduje.

The APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, said: “The commission should start from 1999-2003 and 2011-2015 when 70 per cent of government properties were sold or fraudulently allocated to friends and families.”

According to Abbas: “interestingly, the sharing of the state assets happened right under the nose of Abba Kabir Yusuf when he was the commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport.”

The APC chairman, in a statement observed that the composition of the commission’s membership reveals that it is made up of members of the NNPP and other partisan politicians.

“This singular act clearly shows that the commission has been assigned with a duty to witch-hunt and politically victimise the subjects of investigation in the unwarranted assignment,” he said.

Abbas stated that the government should be upright in its dealings by not selfishly restricting its investigation to between 2015 and 2023.

“From 2011-2015, the controversial five kilometer road projects in the 44 local government areas were awarded and only for the funds to be misappropriated without the project being executed.

“During the same period, over N3 billion naira were also earmarked for a particular project but misappropriated by Kwankwaso during his Presidential Campaign in Lagos when N70 million was released by each local government,” he said.

Abbas added that just as it is claiming to be fair to all, the government should invite all the 44 local government council chairmen that served during Kwankwaso administration to give account of what really transpired in order to unravel the mystery behind the misappropriated fund.

The Chairman said there were instances of misuse of public funds when the Kwankwaso administration took a Machiavellian reform of the pension law to use over N4 billion from Pension Trust Fund to misappropriate pensioner’s fund between 2011-2015 which impact is still reverberating on the toiling pensioners in the state.

“Since 2019 when they were in the opposition, the people of Kano were very much aware of how elements of this government and it’s supporters threatened the peace in the state. Even while in government, the violence perpetrated to celebrate it’s coming to power is still fresh in our minds.”

He said key stakeholders of this government that included the Secretary to the State Government, a commissioner and two advisers also threatened to kill judges of the 2023 Election Petition Tribunal in a viral video, but nothing was done to assuage the situation.

“It is shocking and disturbing that despite the threat to lives meted out by one of the Commissioners against the Judicial officers his name was resubmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for further confirmation as Commissioner and he has since been cleared by the said House.

“It is no doubt that the clearance of the said commissioner clearly demonstrates that evil deed is “viable venture” in the Government of Kano State because the doers are encouraged, appeased and rewarded abundantly.

“Between 1999-2003, the violence that erupted in Kwankwaso town of Madobi local government when people objected to the crowning of Kwankwaso’s father with traditional title, lives were lost and properties vandalised.

“Members of the NNPP brandishing dangerous weapons including guns, were shooting sporadically during campaigns as a result of which some were killed and many others injured in Gwarzo and Wudil ” the statement said.

“While the All Progressives Congress (APC) will continue to be law abiding, it will not, however, condone witch-hunt, political victimisation and persecution. The Government needs to be reminded that the mentioned scandals ought to be investigated and must one day be investigated.”

Nigeria has what it takes to end insecurity, says Kwankwaso

… PDP, APC have completely failed

Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general election, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said yesterday that the country  has the required manpower and resources to end the current insecurity in the land.

Kwankwaso who spoke at the mini national Convention of the party in Abuja, however, said that from developments in the country, it was obvious that the country was in dire need of change in the style of leadership as both the PDP and the APC have failed the nation.

The former Kano Governor spoke just as the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed said the challenges facing the nation were imposed by several years of mishandling of the affairs of the country, through unprecedented corruption, mismanagement and continued “ungovernance”.

He said “We have taken note of the challenges of the day because in many states, especially in northern Nigeria, our children are not going to schools now because of insecurity, because of poverty and so on. By implication, we are saying we will do whatever it takes to ensure security and to ensure that poverty is eradicated.

“We have all what it takes to do that, so that education can flourish, so that every child from primary to tertiary will go to school in this country.

“This party is one of the major hopes that this country is having today. We are all aware that PDP has completely failed. Many of us decided in 2014\2015 to bring in some positive changes.

“Unfortunately, we have seen what happened from 2015 to date. There is the same APC government. Therefore, as far as we are concerned, we have a failing party that is the APC. And we believe that this country requires an alternative to APC and of course, PDP and the only party, in my opinion, and based on facts, because NNPP today is the fastest growing party in this country.

“In many parts of this country, especially in northern Nigeria, particularly in my own part of the north, so many people have been chased out of their homes, so many have been killed. Some are in the bushes and in the forest under the care of bandits and other criminals.

“It looks like many people don’t care. It is even becoming a normal thing to go and beat people in their homes, on the roads, in the markets and so on. I believe it is only in this country that this sort of nonsense is happening.

“It is the responsibility of every responsible government to ensure peace of its people. As a former minister of defense  and a former chief security officer, for eight years, I believe that we have adequate resources, we have enough manpower, we have all what it takes to protect Nigerians and peace in this country.

Speaking on the challenges in the party, Kwankwaso said “before we came into this party, it’s very difficult to remember anybody who knew this party. Today, despite all the challenges that we had in 2023 election, we have moved on as a strong united party”.

He assured of consensus building and internal democracy in the party saying all our members will continue to have internal democracy within the party and everybody will be given an opportunity to attain his or her position.

National Chairman of the party, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed said every nation, at its most epochal juncture, has a choice to confront its own dialectical reality or allow itself to be consumed by the grand contradictions within itself.

Speaking on the crisis in the party that saw the expulsion of some of its members, Dr. Ahmed said “the New Nigeria Peoples Party, is a party for all Nigerians. The NNPP is not a political party owned by another entity. It is not a political party owned by any individual. NNPP is not owned by anything called NAGAFF or any other association. It is not owned by Kwankwasiyya, it is not a Party owned by Kwankwaso or anyone else.
