Speaking on role of traditional rulers in constitution, Ayorinde canvassed constitutional roles for traditional rulers in governance structure, saying, their proximity to the grassroots makes them intermediaries between the government and the people.

According to him, by assigning constitutional roles to traditional rulers, Nigerians can tap into their wealth of experience and knowledge of local customs and traditions.

He stated that Traditional rulers play significant role in Nigeria’s governance and have continue to wield significant influence in their communities, making them valuable assets in promoting peace, security, and development.

He noted that by harnessing the strengths of traditional rulers, Nigeria can create more inclusive and effective governance system that truly serves the needs of its people.

He said: “What you call democracy today has been happening before independence and introduction of this democracy system.
“I think we need to go back to the days when democracy was formed by the traditional rulers.

“Why is it that some of the traditional rulers are not made to be in the government? Why? Some of us are better off than those ruling us.

“Most of those ruling us in the political arena know nothing about governance, hey know nothing about how to govern people. They know nothing about human relations and public relations. You have to combine these two in the ruling, in making your judgement. Our forefathers knew enough about human feelings.”

Oyo APC stakeholders charges Makinde on disaster prevention, management

Stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan outer city zone of Oyo state have charged Governor Seyi Makinde to be more proactive in prevention, control and management of avoidable accidents and disasters in the state.

The stakeholders, who were worried by spate of market, industrial and domestic fire disasters, as well as flooding, explosions, road mishaps among others in the state in recent times, warned that the trend must be addressed immediately by relevant authorities particularly the state government.

The stakeholders made up of leaders, stalwarts and party executive committee members from Akinyele, Egbeda, Ido, Lagelu, Oluyole and Ona-Ara local government areas during their quarterly meeting at APC Secretariat in Egbeda local government regretted recent inferno which ravaged popular Aleshinloye market.

A communique issued at the end of their quarterly meeting and signed by four notable leaders of the Forum; Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi and Bashorun Billy Ogundele, said, “The fire incident recorded at Aleshinloye market in Ibadan last week was one inferno too many as it left many victims in agony and frustration on account of collosal loss of money, wares and property.

“Undoubtedly, the loss suffered by these citizens would have adverse effects on their families and the overall economy of the state and it on this premise that we identify with them in this trying period.

“Meanwhile, it is imperative we put the state government to task on how to abate the incessant cases of fire disasters since it is becoming a recurring decimal in many towns and cities across the state.

“The Aleshinloye market incident exposed the Makinde administration as inept and insensitive as a result the failure to prevent or manage the situation before it got out of hand.

“It is safe to say that the fraudulent release of a huge of money for the purpose of purchasing 10 fire trucks from Turkey in 2020 without the vehicles being brought down to the state is taking its toll on the residents.

“Now that we cannot continue to keep mute, we appeal to the Makinde administration to seek expert advice on how best to prevent recurrence of avoidable disasters in addition to getting relevant officials adequately prepared and equipped with training/retraining, modern equipment and good condition of service.

“Also, Gov. Makinde should also review his decision to displace genuine traders in Aleshinloye and other popular markets in Ibadan in the guise of remodelling the structures of those markets since it has been established that there is lack of transparency and sincerity in the plan.”

Oyo APC opposes Makinde’s N200bn loan approval, warns of economic fallout

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly opposed the approval granted by the State House of Assembly for Governor Seyi Makinde to obtain a fresh N200 billion loan, warning that it could have dire consequences for the state’s economy.

The party called on prominent citizens across the country to intervene and urge the governor to abandon the plan in the interest of Oyo State.

Governor Makinde secured the approval on Tuesday through Speaker Hon. Debo Ogundoyin and a few lawmakers, who swiftly processed a loan request dated March 13, 2027.

According to the governor, the loan is intended to refinance an existing facility from a commercial bank.

In a statement, APC publicity secretary Olawale Sadare condemned what he described as a “clandestine” move to secure the massive loan with minimal legislative scrutiny.

Sadare said, “Another devastating news came from the Oyo State House of Assembly today as the Speaker and a few members of the legislative chamber loyal to him approved the fraudulent loan request from the governor even without the knowledge of most of their colleagues even as the decision was contained in the post-plenary document released by the Clerk of the House.

“The reality on ground cannot justify the over N300billion debt which Gov. Makinde has incurred through fraudulent loans in the last six years.

“If the previous loans were committed to infrastructural growth, economic build up, food security through sustainable agricultural revolution among other things, there would not have been any cause to worry but the present PDP administration has demonstrated that it was out to ruin the future of the state by plunging the state into financial mess.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Gov. Makinde receives an average of N11billion in federal allocation and another N11billion from Abuja on behalf of the 33 local government councils while the least he gets in Internally Generated Revenue is N3billion making it, at least, N25billon every month.

“The question on the lips of the informed citizens now is about what he does with the huge resources and why the need for huge loan facilities again?

“Gov. Makinde sits on public funds totalling billions of naira every day but Oyo state cannot pay its workers in all the state-owned tertiary institutions living wages. The same Oyo state cannot boast of five good fire trucks to tackle emergencies.

“Farmers in the state cannot get tractors and other modern equipment to help their agricultural practices while teaching and learning in public primary and secondary schools across the state have been excruciating and the rots continue.

“Gov Makinde who has failed to deliver ordinary bus terminal in six years after taking over N20billion out the coffers of the state for the project has again discovered another conduit in an airport upgrade project and he wants us to pretend that everything is alright.

“By and large, the way and manner which the approval for the fresh N200billion was sought and got has further exposed the Speaker as a willing tool in the hands of Gov. Makinde but the truth of the matter is that no culprits would go scot free when it is time for justice.”
