‘Why Ned Nwoko is championing Anioma State creation’

The Media Director of Anioma State Creation, Chief Tonia Ositadinma Oganah, has thrown more light on why Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko is at the forefront of the creation of the state.

Addressing reporters yesterday in Lagos, Oganah dismissed the impression created in some quarters that Nwoko was on a self-serving mission over the creation of Anioma State.

Oganah, a lawyer, publisher, and public affairs analyst, noted that Nwoko’s desire and commitment to the creation of the state is driven by altruistic reasons.

The media director spoke against the backdrop of the recently held Southsouth and the Southeast Zonal Senate Public Hearings on the Constitution Review in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, and Enugu states.

He enthused that the issue of Anioma State creation was at the centre of the parley.

Oganah added: “Senator Nwoko is genuinely concerned that his Delta North constituency deserves a better position in the present political dispensation, hence he has aligned accordingly with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to better the lots of his people.

“Senator Nwoko is aware that if created, Anioma State will usher in an all-round human and infrastructural development, open up employment opportunities, boost security, tame marginalisation, and promote mutual co-existence.”

The media director called for increased collaboration between Nwoko, the Anioma people on one hand, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on the other hand.

He added: “At this crucial point when it has become obvious that we are making progress over the state creation, my call to our people, especially our political class, is for them to unite, shun rancour, bitterness, rivalries, pettiness, and false narratives being peddled against Senator Nwoko and other champions of the state creation request.

“Rather, we should all rally round the progressive Senator Nwoko to achieve his noble dream of Anioma State creation.”

Nwoko takes legal action against influencer for defamation, misleading allegations against Regina

Sen. Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, says he is taking steps to prosecute a social media influencer, Timothy Gabriel, for defamatory, misleading allegations against him and wife, Regina Daniels.

This is contained in a statement by the Ned Nwoko Media Directorate and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja on Saturday.

Nwoko stated that while at it, Gabriel dared him and his wife to respond and openly invited legal action, adding that the challenge had now been accepted.

He noted that no individual had the right to hurl baseless and vulgar accusations against another citizen and then hide behind social media antics or street protests to evade accountability.

“We have taken full notice of the vile, reckless, and malicious statements made by one Timothy Gabriel, alias Tuma, and the accompanying attempts to dress lawless behavior in the garb of activism or press freedom.

“Gabriel not only spewed defamatory lies against Regina Daniels, my wife and accomplished actress but also myself, and he did so repeatedly, with clear intent to provoke, incite, and destroy reputations.

“There is no democracy anywhere in the world where freedom of speech includes freedom to defame, blackmail, or incite hatred under the guise of online influence.

“The internet is not above the law. Those who think they can assassinate character and go unpunished are about to face the full weight of Nigeria’s legal system.

“My legal team also representing Regina-Daniels Nwoko is already taking every step necessary to prosecute Gabriel and his enablers through every legal means available.

“This includes both criminal defamation and civil suits, for which the evidence is overwhelming.

“His slanderous comments about paternity, morality, and fictitious personal “evidence” are not only damaging, they are false, dangerous, and criminally prosecutable,” he said.

The lawmaker added that those amplifying or defending the behaviour of Gabriel under the banner of human rights advocacy should know that freedom of speech does not include the right to lie and destroy.

“Mr Gabriel and any co-conspirators should prepare to face the law in the most decisive manner. The real trouble has only just begun and it will not be fought on social media, but in court, through the strength of evidence and the rule of law.

“Let the public be assured; defamation is not activism, and I will ensure that the lines are drawn clearly in the courtroom,” he stressed.

  • ‘Ned Nwoko’s defection to APC has proved political pundits wrong’

‘Ned Nwoko’s defection to APC has proved political pundits wrong’

The defection of Senator Ned Nwoko, the lawmaker representing Delta North in the National assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as a move that proved political pundits across the country wrong.

This is according to a  renowned political commentator Dr Chris Okobah.

Nwoko defected to the APC in February fueling criticisms from different quarters.

In what appeared befuddling to political observers in the land, Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire PDP structure in the state , from the ward to the local government and state levels, disintegrated into the APC last Wednesday.

Speaking on  the development, Dr Chris said:  “Just weeks ago, Nwoko’s switch from PDP to APC stirred a storm of controversy and criticism. Political pundits and party loyalists alike questioned his motives, with opponents labeling him a coward fleeing the PDP in anticipation of a looming political defeat.

Delta, long regarded as a PDP fortress, seemed an unlikely ground for such a monumental realignment. However, the tide has turned.”

Dr Chris  noted that the mass defection of the governor and his executive team to the APC has rendered prior criticisms obsolete. “What was seen as political opportunism now appears, in hindsight, to be strategic foresight. It has forced a reckoning within Delta State’s political elite, raising one crucial question: What caused this political tsunami?

“At the center of this tectonic shift is Senator Ned Nwoko himself. A man of influence, charisma, and undeniable popularity, Nwoko has long commanded significant grassroots support across Delta State. His legislative record is decorated with impactful bills and advocacy, ranging from youth empowerment and education to regional development and environmental reform.

“Nwoko’s defection didn’t just shake the party system; it shook the people. His political brand—characterized by pragmatism, accessibility, and a firm grasp of both local and national issues—has earned him widespread respect, particularly among the youth and middle class.

As political analyst Prof. Adewale Onanuga observed, “When a man moves with the hearts of the people, he does not walk alone. He shifts the soul of a community.” That sentiment echoes what many in Delta felt when Nwoko left PDP: a sense that the state was on the verge of transformation, even if many couldn’t yet see how.”

Dr Chris pointed out that Nwoko’s defection did more than challenge party loyalty. “It presented a new vision for Delta State. His ability to mobilize a large and active followership gave APC an edge that PDP hadn’t accounted for. His reputation for delivering on promises, paired with an unapologetically pragmatic approach to governance, positioned him as not just a political figure, but a movement.

A quote by American political theorist John Maxwell captures this dynamic aptly: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Nwoko’s move to the APC, in retrospect, was more than political survival—it was a roadmap for change.”

Continuing, he said “insiders suggest that the Governor’s defection, though surprising, was not impulsive. Sources within the corridors of power hint at months of discontent within the PDP’s state machinery, including internal factionalism, policy stagnation, and dwindling federal influence. The Governor, recognizing Nwoko’s traction and sensing a shift in the political winds, likely saw defection as the only viable path to sustained governance and relevance.

This decision has now repositioned Delta as a battleground for the 2027 elections, with APC gaining an undeniable upper hand.

“The Delta political shift underscores a broader truth in Nigerian politics: personalities often eclipse parties. Charismatic figures with genuine grassroots support have the power to realign political loyalties and reshape state dynamics.

As former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt once said, “The most successful politician is he who says what the people are thinking most often and in the loudest voice.” Senator Ned Nwoko, in many ways, has become that voice for a growing number of Deltans.”

Concluding, he said: “What began as a controversial move by one senator has now snowballed into a political realignment of historic proportions. The story of Delta State’s transformation is not just about defections and power shifts—it’s about the enduring power of leadership, popularity, and vision.

Senator Ned Nwoko, once dismissed as a defector running from defeat, now stands as a catalyst of change. And with Delta State now firmly in APC’s grip, the rest of Nigeria is watching closely, wondering where the next political earthquake will strike.”

  • What Deltans expect from Oborevwori as APC governor, by Ned Nwoko

What Deltans expect from Oborevwori as APC governor, by Ned Nwoko

Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to quickly align with the efforts to actualise the creation of Anioma State—an aspiration he said is shared by the people of Delta State.

In a statement issued from Lafia by his media consultant, Michael Ogar, Senator Nwoko urged the governor to settle into his new political alignment and work collaboratively to achieve this long-standing demand.

He described Governor Oborevwori’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a significant turning point in Nigeria’s political landscape, adding that it presents an opportunity to advance the Anioma cause with greater unity and momentum.

“With your courageous defection to the All Progressives Congress, a landmark history is being rewritten. This moment is not just about shifting allegiances, it is about the bold possibilities now within reach. For the first time in decades, we have a real chance to restructure Nigeria’s federating units through constitutionally backed reforms that serve justice, equity, and true federalism”.

“As Governor of Delta State, leading the charge among five PDP governors now aligning with the APC, you have stepped into a party reenergized and focused. A party that has already begun laying the groundwork for bold constitutional amendments” he said

He told the Governor that some of the challenges before the the region is the creation of two new viable states including Anioma and New Delta.

“Let me remind you, this agenda was declared a done deal by the party leadership long before your defection, a testament to the APC’s commitment to correcting historical imbalances and ending regional marginalization.

“This is the golden hour for the South, and especially for Delta. Your move to the APC must be anchored in vision. Embrace the party’s progressive agenda. Lead the charge for constitutional reform. Leave behind the politics of survival and step into the politics of legacy.

“Your decision to align with the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda will ensure that New Delta State, and Anioma is not left behind , but instead benefits immensely from the vast opportunities available at the centre.

“It now behoves on you to rise to this historic moment. The past must not be carried into the future. As scripture warns, ‘No one pours new wine into old wineskins.’ Old habits, old politics, and the old deals that led to the gradual decline of the PDP in Delta must be left behind.

“Your defection must not be symbolic, it must be transformative. This is your opportunity to embrace a new sense of purpose and demonstrate renewed dedication to progressive governance, fairness, and inclusive development. It is time to write the wrongs of the past”

According to the statement, the creation of Anioma State will finally give voice, identity, and institutional power to the aspirations of Delta North. It is a long overdue recognition of a people who have sought parity with their kinsmen.

He gave an assurance that the proposed new Delta will address the deep internal asymmetries within the current Delta State structure adding that It will empower neglected communities, bring government closer to the people, and unlock new paths for economic growth.

“For the first time, the APC is armed with the numbers to amend the constitution. This time, we can fulfill these promises without demanding painful tradeoffs from the South. We are not lobbying from a place of weakness, we are standing firmly in a position of strength.

“These changes are more than political. They are economic necessities. They are about focused governance, better infrastructure, increased federal allocation, and grassroots democracy. Two new states will mean two new engines of development”, the statement added.

In a statement issued by his media consultant, Michael Ogah, and made available to journalists, Nwoko stressed that the political class, regardless of party affiliation, must be prepared for both support and criticism as part of a healthy democratic process.

“In a democratic society, public office holders must be prepared for both support and opposition. The Senator who observed that opposition should be conducted responsibly, ensuring that criticism remains factual and does not cross the line into defamation, urged those in opposition parties to see political as a decent game and not an avenue or platform where there are no boundaries.

HOSTCOM youths hail Nwoko’s appointment as anti-crude theft committee chair

Youths of the Host Communities Producing Oil, Gas and Pipeline Impacted States Council of Nigeria (HOSTCOM-Youths) have described as “commendable” the appointment of the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District of Delta State, Senator Ned Nwoko as the Chairman, Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft.

According to the HOSTCOM-Youths, the appointment of Nwoko by the 10th Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio is a game-changer for the entire oil and gas value chain in the nation’s oil industry.

The HOSTCOM-Youths under the leadership of the National President, Comrade Emmanuel Fiawei Pathfinder, said in a statement on Friday issued via electronic mail that the Senator Ned Nwoko-led Committee would salvage the nation’s oil and gas sector and the economic woes of the country.

Pathfinder said:  “It will never be business as usual for the saboteurs, both locally and internationally, because the committee has already hit the ground running, and Nigerians will see what has never happened in the fight against oil and gas thieves no matter who they are.

“As a round peg in a round hole, Senator Nwoko’s underground strategies would take the oil thieves by surprise, and this would usher in lasting solutions in curbing the menace of crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal bunkering activities in the creeks of Niger Delta region and the hinterlands.

“Senator Nwoko we know, is a man of courage and a master strategist, who has all it takes to rid the oil and gas sector of this ugly menace of sabotage by some devilish persons who have over the years stolen our common patrimony for their self-aggrandizement.

“We must say that Senator Nwoko, a son of the Niger Delta, understands the region so deeply and has broad knowledge about the nefarious activities of these plunderers of our national wealth, and knows how to marshal out his strategies to change the ugly narrative in the oil and gas sector.”

He said Nwoko’s appointment is highly commendable by all and sundry due to his pedigree and sagacity as a patriotic, detribalised, and true Nigerian leader who has distinguished himself in serving the nation with national conscience.

Pathfinder further said: “We also want to assure Nigerians that Senator Nwoko’s 100 days in this saddle will end oil theft and would be resounding and reverberating because we have seen the writing on the wall already.

“His leadership will bring about a stupendous growth and development of the oil and gas sector in no distant time as he has already commenced the job by leading a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, seeking a partnership with the military to curb the menace. He has also set up and inaugurated a surveillance team for overt and covert operations on oil facilities and institutions.

“Interestingly, the committee has called for strengthening of intelligence-sharing mechanisms, surveillance operations and fostering seamless inter-agency collaboration to dismantle the complex networks behind crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region and across the international borders.”

Speaking at a Malaria Vaccine Workshop organized by the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation, he stressed the importance of Nigeria developing its own vaccine production capabilities rather than depending on foreign solutions.

The senator who stressed that individual efforts alone cannot achieve the goal of eliminating the disease, called for government action, private sector investment, and global partnerships.

“To institutionalize the fight against malaria, Senator Nwoko has introduced the Malaria Eradication Agency Bill (SB.172) in the Senate. The proposed agency will coordinate malaria research, vaccine production, and large-scale eradication programmes in Nigeria”.

“To strengthen the strategic move for the actualization of the proposed bill, a public hearing on the bill is expected by June, and the senator has urged all stakeholders including government agencies, health organizations, and research institutions to support the passage of the bill”, the statement declared.

“Malaria is not an unsolvable problem, if this were a Western disease, the global response would have been swift. The COVID-19 pandemic proved that when there is urgency, vaccines can be developed and deployed within months. We must take responsibility for solving our own health crises”, the statement stated.
