Ned Nwoko celebrates Regina Daniels achievement amid rumored marital saga

Senator Ned Nwoko has congratulated wife, Regina Daniels Nwoko, on being honored as Nollywood Personality of the Year by The Sun Newspaper.

The congratulatory message comes on the heels of a rumored marital saga between the couple, which sparked speculation about the state of their relationship.

The drama began when Regina deactivated her Instagram account. When she eventually returned after two weeks then removed the husband’s name from her Instagram bio, fueling rumors of a potential rift.

However, Ned Nwoko’s heartfelt post appears to quell the rumors, as he praises Regina’s dedication, talent, and passion for the Nollywood industry.

Defection: Court urged to declare Ned Nwoko’s seat vacant, order by-election

The Federal High Court in Abuja has been urged to declare the Delta North Senatorial seat vacant, following the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The court is equally urged to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to, within 60 days from the delivery of judgment in the matter, conduct a by-election for the Senatorial District.

The requests for part of the reliefs being sought in a suit marked: FCH/ABJ/CS/325/2025 filed by a member of the PDP from the Delta North Senatorial District, Marvis Ossai, through his lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi.

Listed as defendants in the case filed are Senator Nwoko, INEC, the PDP, and the Nigerian Senate.

The plaintiff stated, in a supporting affidavit, that Senator Nwoko resigned on January 30, from the PDP which was the political party on whose platform he was elected to occupy the Delta North Senatorial seat till 2027.

Ossai, who claimed to be from Oshimili North Local Government Area in Delta North Senatorial District, stated that Senator Nwoko’s continued stay in office after his defection would amount to a gross violation of the Constitution.

He added: “Since when the first defendant (Nwoko) decamped from the PDP up to the present moment of initiating the instant suit, there has never been any division in the national leadership of the PDP.

“The ideology of the first defendant’s new party, the APC, to which the first defendant now fully subscribes, does not bear any similarity or represent the political philosophy of the PDP (which is the basis upon which the Plaintiff resolved to cast his vote for and elected the Defendant in 2023).

“The conduct of the first defendant in defecting from the PDP to the APC has dealt a major blow to the fortunes of the plaintiff’s party, the PDP.

“The conduct of the first defendant, being challenged herein, if not condemned and upturned by this court, will continue to encourage political harlotry, and legislative rascality and destroy the reasons for the laws made to regulate the defection of National Assembly members by the Constitution itself.

“The continuous stay of the first defendant at the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria no longer represents the plaintiff’s interest or that of thousands of other members of our constituency, who voted him in based on our faith in our party’s manifesto which they believed the first defendant was capable of representing in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The first defendant is now representing adverse interests of the people who fought the plaintiff’s party tooth and nail in 2023 to forestall the emergence of the first defendant as the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District on the platform of the PDP.”

The plaintiff wants the court to issue an order declaring vacant the seat now being occupied by Senator Nwoko and cancel the Certificate of Return issued to him by INEC.

He is also seeking an order directing Senator Nwoko to refund to the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation forthwith, all the salaries, emoluments, and allowances he has received since January 2025 until the date of the final judgment in the case.

Ossai is also praying the court issue an order disqualifying Senator Nwoko from standing election into any elective post under the Constitution until and unless he complies with every term of the judgment in the suit.

He equally wants an order mandating the Senate to immediately give effect to the judgment in the case.

Ned Nwoko denies plans to marry Chika Ike

Senator Ned Nwoko has officially denied rumors that he is planning to marry actress Chika Ike as his seventh wife.

In a statement released on Monday, his office described the claims as “entirely baseless and a product of malicious speculation.”

The rumours appear to have stemmed from Regina Daniels’ recent deactivation of her Instagram account, which sparked speculation about marital issues, including allegations that Chika Ike is pregnant with Nwoko’s child.

Additionally, Nwoko’s office refuted reports suggesting he made comments about Tuface and polygamy, calling them “completely untrue.”

The statement emphasized that, as a public figure and with his wife being an actress, it is not unusual for bloggers to fabricate stories for attention.

Nwoko’s office urged the public to disregard the rumors and rely only on official statements while cautioning media practitioners about the consequences of spreading false information.

The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the recent false rumors alleging that Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko is planning to marry Nollywood actress Chika Ike as his seventh wife and that she is pregnant for him. We categorically state that these claims are entirely baseless and a product of malicious speculation.

“Similarly, reports claiming he made statements about Tuface and polygamy are completely untrue. As a public figure and with his wife also being an actress, it is not unusual for bloggers seeking attention to fabricate such stories.

“However, Senator Nwoko is currently on a national assignment, focused on delivering on his political mandate, and has no time for distractions.

“This office remains available to journalists for verification of information, and we remind media practitioners of the consequences of spreading fake news. The public is advised to disregard these rumors and rely only on official statements from his office.”

Real reasons Ned Nwoko joined APC

    • By Ikenna Ogbuenyi

After months of speculation, the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Ned Nwoko officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last week and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). On Wednesday this week, he was formally ushered into APC by topshots of the party led by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo in Abuja. The defection followed failed moves to dissuade him from quitting by some concerned PDP chieftains. Apparently, the multi-billionaire international attorney felt he had had enough of the internal squabbles and disappointments bedeviling the leading national opposition party.

Already, Senator Nwoko’s defection, which received loud ovation, is creating panic and confusion in the state government and PDP circles in Delta. In an attempt to raise the low morale of members, the state government is believed to have ordered the party’s caucuses at Senatorial, Federal Constituency and Local Government levels to convene emergency meetings for the purpose of passing vote of confidence on the the embattled state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

In a letter dated January 30 and addressed to the Chairman of PDP in Aniocha North Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State, Senator Nwoko said his resignation stemmed from “deep divisions and factonalisaton within the party”. He added that the crisis in the party has not allowed him to deliver on his promises to his constituents.

Among others, Senator Nwoko stated: “The current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realizing these promises. After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfill my obligations to my people. While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship, unity, and the advancement of Delta North.”

Understandably, Senator Nwoko officially cited deep divisions and factionalisation within the PDP as the primary reasons for his decision to resign from the party. But further probes have revealed that apart from deep-rooted internal crises rocking the PDP at the centre, there was a web of other inside factors in Delta State that contributed significantly to his decision to quit the party.

Nwoko’s Marginalization and Okowa’s Senatorial Bid

The marginalization of Senator Nwoko and his Delta North district in the scheme of affairs in Delta by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori played a significant role in forcing the Idumuje-Ugboko-born prince out of the ruling party in the oil-rich state. The governor, ostensibly at the behest of his political godfather and predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, had effectively sidelined Senator Nwoko on many critical areas and affairs in the state. Several underhand strategies and ploys were deployed to frustrate the philanthropic lawmaker and prevent his associates and supporters from advancing their needs and interests in the state no matter how germane.

The deliberate marginalization of the incumbent senator was a grand plot to whittle him down and return Dr Okowa to the Senate in 2027 at his expense. Recall that Dr Okowa represented Delta North district in the Senate between 2011 and 2015 prior to his election as governor in 2015. During the 2023 general election, he was a losing PDP vice-presidential candidate under Atiku Abubakar.

Dr Okowa’s unpopular decision to play second fiddle in the election was viewed as a stab on the back of other PDP governors and stakeholders from Southern Nigeria who few months to the 2023 had adopted the Asaba Declaration. The kernel of Asaba Declaration, which was the communiqué at the end of a meeting hosted in the Delta State capital by then Governor Okowa early in 2022, was that the presidency should return to the South and that no governor or ranking politician from the South should accept to run as vice-presidential candidate under any northern candidate. That backdoor decision by the Owa-born politician has continued to haunt and stigmatize him like a sore on the nose.

As a payback gesture to his unpopular godfather, Governor Oborevwori has since began moves to help Okowa regain his bearing despite the betrayer toga still hanging around him. The immediate option was to repackage him for the Senate under the PDP banner. The incumbent Senator, Ned Nwoko was the clear obstacle to that plan and the conclusion was that he must be grounded and sacrificed at all cost.

One of the mechanisms for undermining and crippling Senator Nwoko is to make sure that his supporters are isolated and impoverished through denial of appointments or contracts by Mr Oborevwori’s government. The calculation is that denying his supporters of inclusion would weaken him and make him ineffective and unelectable at the coming 2027 election. “All they care about are positions. They don’t care about the people,” a political observer in the state told this newspaper.

Senator Nwoko summed up his frustration with the governor thus: “The governor personally asked me to submit names for commissioners—I did. None were appointed.

“I made recommendations for chairmen of boards and parastatals—not one was considered.

“I advocated for fair representation at the local government level—but political manipulation shut our people out.

“I can no longer be part of this failed system.”

    Neglect of Delta North

The senator’s supporters accused the state government of neglecting Delta North district while prioritising projects and appointments aligned with Mr Okowa’s political influence. His undiluted commitment to good governance is the driving force behind his strident advocacy of Delta North’s development and fair deal from the state government. Yet this disposition is what often puts him on collision course with some gladiators in the state.

Senator Nwoko accused the Oborevwori administration of not having the interests of the Anioma people (Delta North district) whom he represents, at heart. Since he took over on 29 May, 2023, there has not been any major beneficial project within the district to point at, with no sign that the situation would change soon. Among the projects the state government has turned blind eye on in the district are the Ogwashi-Uku dam, the Okpai IPP Power step down and the access road connecting parts of Ndokwa East LGA to the state capital through Oko, Abala-Oshimili and Utchi.

The Okpai Independent Power Plant (IPP) which is a joint project powers electricity across eight states including parts of FCT and Anambra with no step down in the Ndokwa host communities. Senator Nwoko frowns at the situation, insisting the Delta state government ought to partner with the Federal Government and the investors to activate power step down for the host communities which are still reeling under darkness. Senator Nwoko further suggested the use of public-private-partnership (PPP) with the state government providing recoverable funding guarantee, for the implementation of the project. But Governor Oborevwori rejected all the proposals citing the state government’s financial constraints.

For Senator Nwoko, the governor’s reasons for lack of action are untenable. His anger with the state government over its repeated failure to address critical needs of his people made him to refuse to move to move a motion for a vote of confidence on the governor during a PDP Caucus meeting last year. Although his action irked the governor, who was present at the meeting, but Senator Nwoko stood his ground maintaining that the governor had not done enough to deserve accolades.

    Anioma State

Also at the core of the disagreement was the quest for the creation of Anioma State out of the present Delta State. The renewed agitation for the creation of the new state has been spearheaded by Senator Nwoko. His bill for the creation of Anioma State has attracted considerable attention and is currently being debated in the National Assembly. Senator Nwoko said he was pressured to withdraw his bill for the creation of Anioma State but he flatly refused stressing that he was merely expressing the age long wish of the majority of the people of Delta North to have a state of their own.

    Insecurity in Delta North

The failure of the administrations of Okowa and Oborevwori to meaningfully tackle persisting insecurity in Delta North especially kidnappings, killings and cultism is another reason behind Senator Okowa’s dumping of PDP. His several calls and counsels on the State Government to set up and fund local security outfits to support the Police in flushing out criminal herdsmen from the State mostly in Delta North were ignored. The lawmaker was appalled by the nonchalant attitude of the state government despite the huge amounts the governor collects as security vote every month.

    Rejection of SUV Car Gift

One action of Senator Nwoko that angered the governor was his rejection of his government’s gift of an SUV car gift plus monthly N10million Naira payment. Senator politely turned down the offer maintaining that he did not need the car and that he did not need such money because it is actually the tax payers’ money that should be used for their benefit and wellbeing. His action was frowned at as ‘a bad table manner’ and an act of disloyalty to the PDP and the governor.  But to Senator Nwoko, public service should not be about eating and sharing but about selfless service to the people.

Refusal to be tamed by ‘System’

Senator Nwoko’s independent and uncompromised background places him on strong moral high grounds. But in a clime like Delta State, being forthright is often deemed as disloyalty to the ruling party and the established system. To the loyalists of the system and their leaders, the likes of Senator Nwoko stand condemned for not only breaking loose from the established system but also disrupting the status quo.

Senator Nwoko says he cannot afford to be loyal to a ‘system’ which requires him to put the party and the state government ahead of his people and their needs. He says he cannot keep sealed lips and ignore the pains and hardships his constituents have been subjected to over the years, under successive governments of PDP in the state. He would not turn a blind eye to the dehumanizing condition of his people on the altar of party politics. For him, the state has had enough of a dynasty that had deprived it of true dividends of democracy and the APC comes handy as the vehicle to effect the long overdue change in Delta North and the state.

    Mismanagement of Public Funds

For years, Delta State has been receiving the fattest share of revenue from the centre (Abuja). This is by virtue of the fact that it is currently the biggest oil-producing state in the country. The state’s share from FAAC is equivalent to what the entire five Southeast states receives. Yet states like Anambra, Edo and Enugu are doing far better that Delta in terms of provable indices of development. Senator Nwoko touched on this sore point on Wednesday when he said:

“I am just going to give you an instance. In the past two years or thereabouts, we have had a government in Delta that is bereft of how to manage resources. We have resources. We have money in Delta; More than any other state in Nigeria. Maybe you don’t know that.

“We receive less, give or take, about N52 billion every month. We receive, for financial account and for 30 per cent derivation payment, no other state in Nigeria, not even Lagos or Rivers, gets anything near to it. But there is nothing to show for it.”

Senator Nwoko said one of his major reasons for quitting PDP was to team up with like-minds in APC to rescue Delta from the predators of its resources. He said he cannot afford to stand and watch while a gang of greedy politicians loot the state dry while the people are suffering and deprived of impactful development.

    Ned Nwoko’s Background

Born into the royal family of Idumuje-Ugboko kingdom in Aniocha-North local government area of Delta State, Ned Nwoko, right from childhood, was brought up under strict traditional guidance, ethos and discipline. His journey began in the rusty streets of his ancient hometown, Idumuje-Ugboko where he learned the values of hard work, humility, respect and perseverance. Propelled and guided by sublime vision of prosperous future through hard work and a steadfast commitment to his goals, he rose meteorically through the thick and thins of adolescence and youth to exhibit early signs of success and leadership. Having deciphered the early signs of wisdom, courage and adventure in teenage boy, his family wasted no time in sponsoring him abroad to the United Kingdom in pursuit of golden fleece and the honing of his blooming sartorial attributes.

Before his foray into active politics in Nigeria way back in 1998, he had already established an enviable reputation as a successful international lawyer and businessman.  Senator Nwoko had a successful tenure as an honorable member of the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003. Twenty years after, he returned to National Assembly as the Senator representing Delta North district, otherwise known as Anioma in 2023.

He says he cannot afford to stand aloof while majority of the people wallow in deprivation unleashed by bad governance and systemic corruption. He is immersed in the urgency of now with his binoculars focused on what could be done to better the lives of the people, starting with his Anioma constituents, Delta State and Nigeria at large.

His undiluted commitment to good governance is the driving force behind his strident advocacy of Delta North’s development and fair deal from the state government. Yet this disposition is what often puts him on collision course with many gladiators in the state who are driven by contrary considerations.

    The Confidence Vote Saga

An attempt was made to coerce him to eat the humble pie when he was suddenly called upon to move a motion for a vote of confidence on the state governor, Mr Oborevwori during a PDP caucus meeting. This is the same administration he has accused of underperforming as far infrastructures provision in Delta North is concerned. Senator Nwoko declined to move the motion attracting the ire of the governor who was present at the meeting.

Senator Nwoko captured that cockish and daring moment in an interview on Wednesday after being received by APC leaders led by the National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. “At the last caucus meeting, when I was asked to move a motion for a vote of confidence for the Governor before former governors, and the leadership of the House of Assembly, I refused to do it. I told him I couldn’t do it because I have no confidence in him. He was looking at me as if I was speaking Latin. I said No. I told him I couldn’t do it. But look, Nigerians suffer greatly because of bad governance. That’s why people are poor.”

Nwoko’s defection victory for APC, says woman leader

National Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mary Alile, has described Senator Ned Nwoko’s defection from the Peoples Democrat Party (PDP) as a victory for the party.

She believes it is a step towards strengthening inclusive governance in Nigeria.

In a statement, Dr. Alile stressed the significance of the political development, noting that it reflects the growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and policies.

She said: “The decision of a distinguished lawmaker like Senator Ned Nwoko to join the APC is a clear testament to the party’s growing influence, strategic direction, and commitment to national development.

“It also sends a strong message to women in politics that the APC remains the best platform for inclusivity and progressive governance.”

Nwoko, representing Delta North, was received by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Dr. Alile, known for her relentless advocacy for women’s political participation, used the opportunity to encourage more female leaders to take advantage of the APC’s open-door policy.

She stressed that women must be at the centre of political decision-making, ensuring that their voices shape policies and governance.

She added: “The APC remains committed to providing a platform for women to excel in leadership roles.

“I encourage more women to step forward and take up active roles in politics.

“The era where politics was seen as a male-dominated space is fading, and the APC is leading that transformation.”

Senator Nwoko’s defection is a significant win for the APC, particularly in Delta State, where the ruling party is aiming to expand its influence ahead of future elections.

With the APC continuously expanding its ranks with influential politicians, Dr. Mary Alile reaffirmed the party’s dedication to good governance, youth empowerment, and gender inclusivity.

She assured Nigerians that APC remains committed to fostering policies that promote equal opportunities for all, particularly for women in politics and governance.

Ned Nwoko: Joining APC in a blaze of honour, dignity, without stain

    BY NOSIKE OGBUENYI

Chinedu Munir Nwoko, popularly known as Ned Nwoko, faces a dicey test entering the New Year as he took the decisive plunge to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP which is the ruling party in Delta State is the main opposition party at the centre.

The undercurrents that culminated in Senator Nwoko’s recent decision to quit the PDP have been smoldering for long shortly after the swearing in of Sheriff Oborevwori as the governor of the state in 2023. Now with his latest action, the fate of PDP in Delta State hangs precariously on a cliff hanger.

The PDP in the state has been clinging on the crevices of the disparate quartet of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the immediate past governor, Ifeanyi Okowa who is also godfather to Mr Oborevwori, Senator Nwoko the influential Delta North senator and the pioneer governor of the State under the present democratic dispensation, James Ibori. The chess game about the future of PDP in the state has been going on in the courtyards of the foursome. Today, the governor can only be sure of his godfather, Mr Okowa’s support.

Mr Ibori was the first to be marginalised after his preferred candidate, Mr David Edevbie was literarily shoved aside by then incumbent Governor Okowa to pave way for anointed candidate, Mr Oborevwori’s emergence in the PDP primaries late in 2022. Since then, the first democratically elected governor in this dispensation, between 1999 and 2007, has been left in the cold by Messrs Oborevwori and Okowa.

Many people are leaving PDP and joining the APC including current elected, appointed and other political office holders too. More significantly, within the Delta North district a large number of people are gravitating towards the APC believing strongly that Anioma State creation can be realized under APC. There are other reasons behind the gale of defections rocking the PDP in the state.

Late last year, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the daughter of the former governor, who is representing Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives dumped PDP and joined APC citing marginalisation as her main reason for quitting.

Barely two months after Ibori’s daughter quit the PDP, Senator Nwoko has also announced his intention to leave the party and join the APC. And he is doing so in a blaze of honour and dignity. He is as clean as whistle with no case of corruption to defend. As a self-made multi-billionaire, Senator Nwoko is among the few crop of public officers in the state who have never depended on government contracts and patronage for economic survival.

In the UK, the young Nwoko grabbed the opportunity for pursuit of academic excellence with both hands. After earning his first degree in Law and History at the University of Keele, UK, he proceeded to Kings College, University of London where he obtained his Masters degree in Law. He was called to the English Bar as a member of the famous Lincolns Inn where the world famous jurist, Lord Denin was. He subsequently requalified as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. A position he still holds till today. There are less than 500 Africans holding this position globally.

Senator Nwoko began his legal practice in the UK where he flourished as an international attorney. At the peak of his legal practice, as solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, he had one of the biggest law firms owned by a black man in the UK. Returning to Nigeria, he leveraged his education and variegated experience to build a successful empire that spans various sectors, including real estate, telecommunications, tourism, education, sports, entertainment and agriculture. His efforts have not only enriched his life but also contributed significantly to the advancement of economic landscape of Nigeria.

As a senator, Nwoko has been a voice for the youth, advocating for policies that foster innovation, education, and entrepreneurship. His philanthropic initiatives focus mainly on empowering the next generation, ensuring they have the tools necessary to navigate an ever-changing world. He can be aptly described as a global citizen and an amazing pro-people leader.

Senator Nwoko’s independent and uncompromised background places him on moral high grounds to stand straight and speak for the people no matter whose ox is gored. But the non-profitable pro-people lane he is treading is a narrow and hazardous path in a clime like Delta State where speaking truth to power is often deemed as disloyalty to the ruling party and the established system. To the loyalists of the system and their gadflies, he stands condemned for not only breaking loose from the established system but also disrupting the status quo brazenly.

But Senator Nwoko seems unfazed by the risks of being on the lonely side. Doing what he perceives as the right thing for his people is his ultimate satisfaction, irrespective of the sacrifices and losses that might go with it. His position aligns with an injunction in the Holy Book which says, “Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many going through it.” This is a popular quote in chapter seven, verses 13 and 14 of the Biblical book of Matthew.

Judging by his antecedents, Senator Nwoko would literarily use his bare head to break the coconut for his people of Anioma underscoring why he is fighting for the improvement of their wellbeing. His recent open call on Delta State government to intervene and ameliorate the suffering of his people through provision of essential amenities and infrastructures has put him on collision course with the state governor and his godfather along with their coterie of supporters, praise singers and associates.

But Senator Nwoko apparently feels happier and at peace traversing the narrow gate and connecting with the people irrespective of social status. His humanness, simplicity, empathy and open door orientation makes him to blend with the high and the low. Though highly rated as one of the most influential and active lawmakers in the present 10th National Assembly, his exalted position has not made him to disconnect with the people. His simple lifestyle and insistence on justice and care for the common man are among the factors that set him apart from the typical upper elite politicians and public officers who follow the broad way that prioritises self interest and aggrandizement.

He says he cannot afford to stand akimbo looking the other way while majority of the people wallow in deprivation unleashed by bad governance and systemic corruption. He is immersed in the urgency of now with his binoculars focused on what could be done to better the lives of the people, starting with his Anioma constituents, Delta State and Nigeria at large.

It is record that Senator Nwoko has consistently delivered for his constituents through diverse ways such as scholarship programmes for students across Delta State; road construction and rehabilitation; installation of solar street lights and boreholes; establishment of Africa’s first Sports University in Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North LGA; securing of federal job placements for Delta North indigenes; promoting of tourism, sponsorship of free medical outreach, surgeries and equipping primary healthcare centres, empowerment of youths, women and vulnerable members of society among others.

Senator Nwoko’s affinity with the people made him to bypass the choice locations of Abuja, Lagos, Benin or Enugu to site the pioneer Sports University, which he founded in Idumuje-Ugbo, a small ancient town in Delta State. He rebuffed all entreaties by friends and consultants against building the multi-billion naira institution in a developed city stressing that he was motivated by the need to bring development to his place of birth rather than quick profit and ego.

Such rare gestures and traits define the iconic lawmaker’s love for his root which defies the allures and high investment returns of urban centres. They also capture his innate qualities of courage of conviction, transcendental influence and popularity. It is quite evident that milk of human kindness flows naturally in his veins.

There are other impactful strides of the towering Senator which place him head and shoulders above his peers as a great leader and achiever. These include the championing of malaria eradication campaign in Africa that shifted emphasis from curative to preventive and eradication approach, securing the Paris Club multi-billion dollars refund as well as support for the needy through poverty alleviation projects and empowerment of youths, women and vulnerable members of society.

Even after leaving the National Assembly in 2003, he remained handy. His dedication to public service has earned him countless accolades and awards. As a senator, he is representing his people with aplomb and distinction, championing the cause of his constituents and working assiduously to promote their welfare. His leadership has been characterised by empathy, wisdom, and a deep understanding of the needs of his people.  The contributions to society by him are a testament to his remarkable character as he has always been there for all irrespective of gender, race, creed, social status or political affiliations.

Senator Nwoko has been a dependable pillar for the youths, advocating and championing policies that foster innovation, education, and entrepreneurship. His philanthropic initiatives focus on empowering the next generation, ensuring they have the necessary tools to navigate an ever-changing world.

His undiluted commitment to good governance is the driving force behind his strident advocacy of Delta North’s development and fair deal from the state government. Yet this disposition is what often puts him on collision course with many gladiators in the state who are driven by contrary considerations.

Beyond the confines of Anioma, for long, Senator Nwoko has carved a niche for himself as a leader who consistently demonstrates his commitment to serving others, regardless of status. All through his illustrious career, he has shown a remarkable ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. His exceptional leadership qualities and capacity have been evident at all time, whether on or off the political stage.

An attempt was made to coerce him to eat the humble pie when he was suddenly called upon to move a motion for a vote of confidence on the state governor, Mr Oborevwori during a PDP stakeholders meeting. This is the same administration he has accused of underperforming as far infrastructures provision in Delta North is concerned. Senator Nwoko declined to move the motion attracting the ire of the governor who was present at the meeting.

Senator Nwoko is not an anyhow politician, the type that keeps mute in the face of injustice.  He does not play boardroom politics to the detriment of his constituents, especially where the developmental needs of his people are at stake. He is not disposed to being a follower of a system that denies the people needed infrastructure and real poverty alleviation projects. This may well be the reason why Ned is genuinely loved by the people.

Again, Senator Nwoko cannot be tamed by the ‘system’ to turn his back on his people and ignore the pains, hardships, and slavery conditions his constituents are subjected to over the years, by successive governments of the party they have supported so long. He would not turn a blind eye to the dehumanizing condition of his people on the altar of party politics. For him, the state has had enough of the dynasty that had deprived it of true dividends of democracy and the APC comes handy as the vehicle to effect the long overdue change in Delta North and the state.

Senator Nwoko accuses Governor Oborevwori of marginalizing Delta North

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has accused Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of sidelining him in matters concerning the state, particularly in the northern senatorial district.

Senator Nwoko also alleged that the governor misrepresented facts regarding the Okpai Independent Power Project (IPP), a project initiated by him to benefit not only Delta North but the entire state.

Speaking through his Director of Communications, Hon. Gloria Okolugbo, in Lafia over the weekend, Senator Nwoko expressed disappointment at the governor’s recent claim that the Okpai IPP project was not discussed with him.

Nwoko criticised the governor for what he described as an attempt to distort facts about the project.

The senator emphasised the importance of the IPP project and reiterated his commitment to ensuring its success for the benefit of Delta State residents.

He said: “The Okpai IPP is a project of immense importance to the people of Delta North and Delta state at large, and Senator Nwoke has been unwavering in his pursuit of its progress. He has been a relentless advocate for the Okpai power step-down project to ensure that Delta North communities benefit from the electricity generated in their region.

“His efforts include, presenting evidence to the Senate and securing a Senate resolution supporting the project. Engaging with the Minister of Power, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN to expedite federal intervention, meeting with oil and gas companies, and conducting on-site tours of the Okpai power plant to push for local electrification

“Throughout these processes, Senator Nwoke kept the Governor informed, it is inconceivable that the senator would go to great lengths and engage all stakeholders without discussing the project with the Governor, a fellow party man whose election he took great risks to campaign for, even after securing his senatorial seat

“Why would the senator suggest funding options, including guarantees to financiers, if he has not discussed the project with the Governor? The Governor is expected to provide the needed guarantees on behalf of the government. It stands to reason that the senator undoubtedly discussed the Okpai step-down project with the Governor

“The Governor’s consistent response has been that the state lacks funds due to loan repayments from the previous administration. Is the Governor now denying the existence of these loans or the ongoing repayments? If funding is a challenge, why has the Governor not prioritized critical infrastructure projects for Delta North?

“The Senator has engaged the Governor on this project repeatedly, alongside other pressing developmental concerns critical to Delta North, including the Ogwashi-Uku Dam and the Asaba-oko-Okpai-Abboh road. Despite these repeated conversations, no assurance was given” he said

He also lamented that Governor Oborevwori did not consider any of his associates in his administration “From the outset of Governor Oborevwori’s administration, there has been a noticeable efforts to undermine Senator Nwoke’s position, when commissioners were appointed, none of the Senator’s nominees were considered, the same pattern followed for board appointments and council chair nominations.

“Even during party congresses, the senator was allowed to nominate only two individuals at the state level, only for their original positions to be changed without prior consultations with the senator,” he said

Despite all these abnormalities, Senator Nwoke preferred dialogue over open confrontation.
