Ondo polls: You can’t win Ondo, APC tells NNPP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state has said that the threat by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to win next month’s governorship election was misguided.

It said Ondo State people were not animals to be captured.

The Ondo APC noted that the NNPP lacked the structure to win the governorship election because its candidate, Gbenga Edema, was a former APC member who defected after losing the primary.

Media Director of the Ondo APC, Steve Otaloro, in a statement, said the NNPP’s reliance on surprises to win the election was absurd.

He said the good work of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa would be the yardstick for victory at the polls.

He said the people wanted empirical facts, and Governor Aiyedatiwa has fulfilled every indicator.

“NNPP should focus on what they will do differently from the APC-led government instead of relying on attacks and surprises.

“We appreciate the role of opposition parties in putting the ruling party on its toes through constructive criticism. However, before merging with other parties, they should resolve their internal crises. A divided house cannot discuss mergers.”

In a significant political shift, thirty members from two opposition parties—the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and the National Rescue Movement (NRM)—have officially joined the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State. I’m NNPP’s biggest threat in Kano, Doguwa tells Jibrin

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Alhassan Doguwa, has refuted a claim by the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa (NNPP), that he is a threat to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kano State.

Jibrin had described Doguwa as a threat to APC and President Bola Tinubu in Kano State.

Replying Jibrin in a statement yesterday, Doguwa said Jibrin shied away from responding to an allegation of killing seven persons during the campaign for the 2019 general election.

The police arrested Jibrin alongside 70 other suspects over the alleged killings.

“I’m not a political liability in Kano; instead, as you know, I’m an asset, a source of pride and a goldmine to the APC both in the state and the country.

“Today, I stand tall in the Kano’s political landscape to be the only member legitimately elected under the platform of the ruling APC in the whole Kano South Senatorial District. Despite all odds, I returned to the House of Representatives in flying colours.

“Yes, I’m the only big threat to the erratic NNPP government and the self-acclaimed national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso (of course, my political mate and a colleague in the Third Republic at the House of Representatives),” he said.

Doguwa accused the NNPP government in Kano State of failing the people, adding that the party was performing woefully.

“NNPP is doing nothing to develop the economic and social well-being of our people and the state. Instead, they ended up chasing shadows and playing the politics of vendetta and vengeance, unfortunately,” he said.

Doguwa urged the leadership of the APC to appoint him as the coordinator and director-general of the party’s campaigns in Kano.

The Federal lawmaker promised to deliver the state, in shaa Allah (by God’s grace), before noon on Election Day.

“I want to use this opportunity to respectfully request the leadership of our great party, APC, to graciously allow me to coordinate and serve as a director general of the Kano State APC Campaign project in 2027. I vouch to deliver APC governorship and Presidential results before 12 noon (in shaa Allah),” he said.

Doguwa stressed that he had never been found wanting in the National Assembly.

“I have never been found to be a traitor, mischievous or disloyal to any of my principals. I have always served and discharged my legislative duties with due diligence, humility, honesty, dedication and utmost respect for my colleagues and principals. I was never suspended or found wanting for the over 33 years of my work as a member of the House of Representatives.

“Today, with all humility, I’m the longest-serving member in the country, and by the grace of Allah and the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives under Abbas Tajudeen.

“My peaceful nature and attitude can best be confirmed by my mutual relationship with my constituents, the traditional rulers, clerics and above all, my timely support to the different security agents: police, the military, Civil Defence and the local vigilante group whom I support in many ways,” he said.

  • We’ve achieved a lot, carried opposition along in Kano, says NNPP chairman

We’ve achieved a lot, carried opposition along in Kano, says NNPP chairman

The ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano state on Sunday, July 7, said it administration, under Governor Abba Yusuf, is achieving a lot while carrying members of the opposition parties along.

NNPP state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, who briefed journalists on the one year administration of Governor Abba Yusuf at the party’s secretariat, said the NNPP led government was running an all-inclusive government while delivering dividends of democracy to every citizen of Kano, irrespective of their party differences.

“N25 million was given to each of the 44 local government areas of the state to fix minor disrepairs in primary and secondary schools of the councils, such as windows, doors, paintings and toilets.

“This was done by Governor Abba Yusuf through the Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC), which has no discrimination irrespective of political affiliation. Members of different political parties (NNPP, APC, PDP and others) were there, the chief Iman was there, village heads and the youth council among others. Because we want to engage everyone to make their contributions and be a part and beneficiary of what government is doing.

“So, we have extended the hand of fellowship and we are carrying everybody along, because it is our responsibility as a ruling party in the state, to do so. We all come from different communities and we cannot abandon the communities, that is why we are improving on their schools, just as we cannot leave them without providing portable drinking water and security and other amenities.

“Recently, we did election involving the various political parties (IPAC) and the executives of different parties were there. Even when we are doing our things as a government, we do involve them, because governance is not a one man show because you don’t know everything, as the saying goes that ‘two heads are better than one,’ we are involving everyone so that we can achieve more. And more so, our governor is a listening leader,” he said.

In terms of achievements, Dungurawa said the NNPP administration led by Governor Abba Yusuf has done incredibly well in education, agriculture, health, women and youths empowerment, payment of pensions, gratuity and death benefits to retirees as well as infrastructure among other sectors.

He said: “In the agriculture sector, the administration has given trucks of fertilisers to each of the 44 local government areas to be shared among farmers at the wards and polling units, unlike the past administration that when they promised fertilisers to farmers, they would give them in September when they are about harvesting their farm crops.  So, we can only thank the governor for fulfilling the NNPP campaign promises.

“In education, we allocated almost 30 percent of the budget to education, first in history. We declared state of emergency on the sector to fix all the rots, recruited more teachers, build additional classrooms and supplied furniture, paid for WAEC and other exams for our students and did many things within just one year.

“Governor Abba Yusuf has released N11 billion for retirees. N6 billion was first released, which I believe was for retired teachers and was successfully paid, and now N5 billion has been released and the beneficiaries are smiling. It was not so in eight years of the immediate past administration, which was illegally deducting pensioners money. So we have done a lot that time would not permit me to enumerate all the achievements, and that is why the governor is winning several performance awards.”
