300 PDP, NNPP members decamp to APC in Kaduna

No fewer than 300 opposition leaders and members from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), in Kawo Ward, Kaduna North LGA, have decamped to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection of hundreds of opposition members was coming when former Governor Nasir El-Rufai who is also from Kaduna North LGA, is working with other opposition figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to form a Coalition against the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the grand reception of the defectors, Permanent Member, Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Jamilu Haruna said the mass defection into the APC, is a clear indication that, Governor Uba Sani has performed credibly well.

Haruna, who facilitated the reception ceremony, said Governor Uba Sani has within two years in office delivered good governance to the people of Kaduna state, from infrastructure development to agricultural revolution and rural transformation programmes.

According to him: “This defection is not a surprise to us because all the genuine members of the opposition have seen the giant strides of Governor Uba Sani in security improvements, educational development, food security and overall wellbeing of the citizens.

“These achievements have stood our Governor our even among his colleagues and endeared him to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is a clear indication that, Kaduna stands to benefit more from the Federal Government for the overall benefit of the citizens.

“So, we welcome the decampees to our great party and we are assuring them that they will be respected, valued and they would be given opportunities to contribute their quota to the development of APC and the state at large,” Dr Jamilu Haruna said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Staff to Governor, Alhaji Sani Liman Kila towards the success of the programme.

Receiving the defectors on behalf of Governor Uba Sani, Kaduna North Local Government Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Suleiman Wada Usman expressed appreciation to them for embracing the truth and joining the party that truly cares for the progress and development of the Kaduna State.

He however assured them of fair and equal treatment in the ruling party, saying that, they would not be treated second class citizens in the Party.

Leader of the defectors and for Kaduna Central Senatorial Aspirant of the PDP, Prof. Usman Muhammad, said he led 225 from the PDP in Kawo because they are convinced that Governor Uba Sani who also from their constituency, has so far provided all inclusive governance.

He also said that, the PDP had made him and other chieftains redundant despite their level of education and experiences, just as the party had also deeply into crisis before expectation.

Muhammad, a professor of Political Science and expert in International Relations however expressed hope that, APC would not make them regret their decision to decamp into the party, just as he called on Governor Uba Sani bring more developmental projects to Kawo.

Notable among the defectors are; former Aspirant PDP State Legal Advisor, Barr. Aliyu Suleiman, Chairman PDP Kawo Ward, Alhaji Hamza Mati Salihu, former PDP state Assembly Aspirant, Hon. NNPP dead, Kwankwaso ‘ll soon join APC – Ganduje

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has predicted the return of the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the ruling party.

He also said the on-going coalition moves by topposition leaders against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of 2027 general elections will soon collapse.

Ganduje gave the prediction while hosting leaders and members of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.

Ganduje declared his leadership will welcome Kwankwaso and other opposition leaders back to the APC.

Ganduje, who noted that his leadership has been receiving prominent politicians and lawmakers across the country into the APC in the recent times, hinged the move by the former Kano Governor to return to the governing party to the dwindling fortunes of NNPP, a party he described as “practically dead”

According to him: “The NNPP is dead. And it will soon be buried very, very soon. I’m looking at where we will bury the body, the coffin has already been constructed. What remains now is to dig the grave. And already they are digging the grave very, very soon.

“Even like that, the so-called NNPP national leader, he too, he says after losing everyone, he wants to come back to us, we will welcome him, because he’s coming back home.”

The APC chairman charged all support groups of the party to be resolute and continue to give support to Tinubu-led administration, assuring them of inclusion in the party’s activities.

NNPP chief hails women for pivotal roles

A Southwest chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Olufemi Ajadi, has extolled the virtues of Nigerian women, saying they are playing pivotal roles in building families.

Appreciating his wife, Mrs Oyindamola Ajadi, and his running mate during the 2023 governorship election, Alhaja Shakirat Arowolo, for their support, and all women in the country for their inestimable sacrifices, Ajadi described mothers as unsung heroes, whose impact resonated far beyond what words could describe.

Ajadi, who spoke with reporters on the occasion of this year’s Mother’s Day, said mothers’ commitment and dedication to raising the next generation was inspiring.

He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors to give more roles to women in nation building through allocation of more offices in government to them.

He said: “I rejoice with our women on the occasion of the 2025 Mother’s Day. You are the unsung heroes, whose impact resonates far beyond what words can describe.

    • Party inaugurates Lagos excos

The Founder of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, has said its standard bearer in the 2023 presidential election, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was expelled due to anti-party activities.

He said Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor, tried to usurp the party’s machinery, claiming that NNPP was handed over to him by its founder.

Aniebonam spoke at the weekend at the inauguration of newly elected executive members of the Lagos State chapter of the NNPP.

The NNPP stalwart insisted that Kwankwaso and a former National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Buba Galadima, were no longer members of the party.

The new executives in Lagos are led by its former Southwest Woman Leader, Princess Olabisi Adebowale, among others.

Aniebonam highlighted some key issues facing the party, including a plethora of pending court cases instituted by some NNPP’s chieftains who tried to hijack the party’s machinery but were prevented by court judgment. He said: “The NNPP graciously anointed Kwankwaso to contest for president in the last general election and gave him the necessary support.”

Princess Adebowale pledged to use her wealth of experience to serve the party well. She urged her executive members to work hard towards clinching victories in various elective positions in the 2027 general election.

  • Four NASS members suspended as Kano NNPP crisis deepens

Four NASS members suspended as Kano NNPP crisis deepens

The crisis rocking the Kano chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) deepened on Monday with the suspension of four members of the National Assembly over alleged anti-party activities.

The affected lawmakers include Senator Kawu Sumaila (Kano South); Ali Madakin Gini (Dala Federal Constituency); Sani Abdullahi Rogo (Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency) and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Rogo/Karaye Federal Constituency).

Kano NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, announced the suspension, accusing the lawmakers of working against the NNPP’s interest despite being elected on the party’s platform.

Dungurawa said the lawmakers were granted complementary tickets during the party’s primaries but had since deviated from its principles and values.

Citing a recent incident, he noted that Senator Sumaila commissioned projects at his university in Sumaila without extending an invitation to party members, describing the action as a clear case of anti-party conduct.

He informed a committee would be set up to investigate the matter, adding that the party remained open to dialogue.

But some of the suspended lawmakers have rejected the suspension, saying the punishment would not stand.

Hon. Kabiru Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, on Monday rejected his suspension from the NNPP.

He described the suspension as “baseless and in contempt of court.”

“I remain a member of the NNPP,” he said.

Rurum said that he and other suspended colleagues belonged to a different NNPP faction.

“This suspension is meaningless, because our faction operates independently.

“They can only suspend members of the faction that issued it, our camp is not affiliated to them,” he said.

He accused the Kano NNPP leadership of defying legal rulings, stating that they were not legitimate party leaders.

Rurum cited a court judgment that dismissed their claims and maintained that they took him to an Abia High Court, adding that the court was yet to rule on the matter.

According to him, the party’s leadership, including its national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, was invited to Sen. Kawu Sumaila’s, (one of the affected lawmakers’) daughter’s wedding but they chose not to attend.

Also on Monday, the factional Chairman of the NNPP in Kano, Senator Mas’ud El-Jibril described the suspension of the four National Assembly members as “inconsequential.”

Reacting to the suspension, Senator El-Jibril argued that Dungurawa lacks the authority to slam disciplinary actions on members as long as he (El-Jibril) remains the authentic NNPP Chairman in Kano state.

The fact that Senator Sumaila and the three others are no longer loyal to Kwankwasiyya does not invalidate their membership in the NNPP, he said.

“Dungurawa is suspending Senator Sumaila in which capacity and as who in the party? As far as the NNPP is concerned, Dungurawa was the former Chairman, and so he lacks the power to suspend anyone, not even high-ranking members.

“For your information, Dungurawa is a member of Kwankwasiyya, an association and not a political party. How can he declare members of the NNPP suspended? I want to believe he’s joking, and perhaps he woke up from a deep slumber.

“These people do not belong to the NNPP with the fruit logo, where we belong and where I remain the authentic Chairman in Kano, so how can a stranger come out to challenge the real owner of the house? Let me simply urge the public to disregard the news,” he said.

Expressing satisfaction with the court’s decision, Johnson stated: “Dr Aneibonam and his associates were expelled from the party.
