Expectations as RCCG’s 63rd Convention begins

Ordination of deacons and deaconesses as well as meetings of church leaders, workers and Council will today open activities at the 63rd Annual Convention of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Kilometre 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Today’s opening is coming on the heels of a three-day meeting of the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, with workers and ministers.

The meeting, which usually precedes the yearly event, serves as preparatory platform ahead of the weeklong spiritual pragramme that will usher the church into a new calendar year.

This year’s convention has “The All Sufficient God” its theme and Pastor Adeboye will by 8.30pm tomorrow, preside over a welcome service to be attended by members from all over the world.

Redeemers from parishes from over 180 countries are billed to attend the convention to feature activities including baptism, bible studies and meetings of the venous departments of the church.

In his welcome message in the convention’s programme, the general overseer urged every participant to come expectant as nobody is expected to go back empty handed.

He said: “We therefore welcome you to the convention of the “The All sufficient God.  This year’s theme holds a lot of promises for all of us who will participants in all the processing’s and over lives will be imparted in ways we have never imagined.”

According to him, the “All sufficient one” has enough blessings to give all His children because there is no shortage in His store house”.

Contrary to insinuations that motorists often experience gridlock whenever the RCCG holds programme at the Redemption City, the church blamed the situation on failing portions on the 120-kilometre highway.

According to the Head, Public Relations Unit, Pastor Segun Adegbiii, RCCG, as part of its Community Social Responsibilities (CSR) spends millions of naira to fix the bad portions to ease traffic.

He said special parking lots have been designated and shuttle buses provided to ensure that no vehicle is parked indiscriminately.

Besides, Pastor Adegbiji said the regular police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had mobilised their men to control traffic. He urged participants to cooperate with the law enforcers.

  • ‘RCCG not responsible for gridlock’

    •Convention billed for Aug 3

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has said it is not responsible for the persistent traffic jam on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It blamed the jam on a bad spot on the road, which it said it had spent millions to repair.

The Head of the Public Relations Unit, Pastor Segun Adegbiji, defended the church at a briefing to announce the church’s 63rd convention from August 3 to August 9 at the Redemption Camp, Km 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with the theme “The All Sufficient God”.

The programme will bring together Christians from 188 countries. It will feature bible teachings, seminars, prayers, prophetic ministration, song rendition and ordinations of deacons, assistant pastor and pastors.

Adegbiyi said: “We’re not responsible for the traffic congestion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The road is bad. There are bad spots at Ojodu Berger and Mowe Junction. Trailers park without restrain on the roads, which hinder smooth flow of traffic.

“Our activities do not take place on the road. In fact, the new arena where the convention will be held is on Simawa Road. It can contain 12 million people and as much as possible, we want to avoid using the expressway.”

  • RCCG holds crusade for change in Nigeria

RCCG holds crusade for change in Nigeria

There is no doubt that Nigeria is confronted with so many disturbing issues, especially as it affects politics in the country.

The change that people clamoured for tends to be turning the other way round with the crisis going on in the National Assembly.

This, among many others, calls for a sober reflection and serious prayers for divine intervention in the current situation.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Lagos Province 40, Ajuwon zone, is organising a one-night special vigil with a theme: “It’s Time for my Manifestation” on July 17, 2015.

Addressing a group of journalists at the church, Pastor in Charge of RCCG, Testimony Area, Ajuwon zone, Pastor Goke Aniyeloye, said the church organised a special prayer in February concerning the necessary change that is required for the nation to move forward, adding that the much-needed change has come but the ongoing political crisis is hindering it from manifesting, hence the call for another special prayer.

According to him, the night is going to be a solution night to many problems and challenges confronting the country as well as individual lives, stressing that every Nigerian prayed for a change but the change they are witnessing currently is not the desired change they prayed for.

“We all cannot sit down and fold our arms and allow a faction of the society in the name of lawmakers to distort our much-awaited change. Although we cried to God for a divine change and God granted our prayer request, what is happening now is not allowing the manifestation of that change,” he said.

He said only God can touch the heart of the law makers to become submissive and adhere to rules and laws governing the national assembly. He stressed that if anyone, however, refuses to bow to the rules, God is in the best position to humble such.

“I implore our leaders to be law abiding because the change we are waiting for is already here. The kind of change we need in this nation is integrity, uprightness and corrupt-free nation. People are crying there is no money in Nigeria but a group of people is sitting upon the money meant for the whole country, that is why I suggest that those who have stolen our money should be probed and be brought to book. They must not go away with such huge amount of money,” he said.

  • Parents urged to instill godliness in their children

The Chairman of the Elders Council of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Province 27, Elder Seni Adegbite, has advised parents to instill the virtues of love, patriotism and godly principles in the lives of their children so that they would become change agents in our world.

Adegbite said this at the Family Week celebration of the RCCG, Province 27 headquarters last Sunday in Ikeja, Lagos.

The programme, which was held simultaneously across the RCCG parishes worldwide, brought together hundreds of Christian’s faithful. There were bible teaching, drama, song rendition, fun and entertainment for the children and their parents.

According to Adegbite, the family remains the melting pot for love, oneness, togetherness and mutual understanding in any nation of the world. Families built on love, fairness, equity and godliness will rub off on the nation.

He lauded the patriotic spirit exhibited by an average American which according to him makes them think about the wellbeing of their country first, above self, tribe or language sentiments.

Adegbite posited further that when families are united and put their focus, interest and ambition on God and his word, intruders will stay far away from them and peace that passes all understanding will reign in such homes.

He took a swipe at the federal government’s commitment to the release of the abducted Chibok girls. Said he: “Americans are ready to die for one citizen of theirs in captivity, not to talk of over 200 children who have been held hostage without any clue of their release soon.”

He challenged Nigerians to rise above tribal, religious and ethnic sentiment and work together to build the nation that is currently in dire need of honest, forthright and faithful individuals to bring the desired development in our country.

  • RCCG donates street lights to Lagos community

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) The Lord’s Chapel Gbagada, Lagos, last Sunday, inaugurated the third phase of its street light project.

The street lights were donated by the church to fight crimes and illuminate the community at nightfall.

The facility will also be powered by the church daily free of charge to the environs.

Declaring open the project on behalf of the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Brown Oyitso said giving back to the public is the responsibility of any corporate organisation to put smiles on the faces of others.

Stating that government alone cannot address the needs of communities, Oyitso said the church decided to complement ongoing government’s efforts to bring succour to the society.

The gesture, he said, is: “motivated by the instruction that our general overseer gave to us that the church should not only be seeing as taking from the society but also give back to the society.”

Urging Christian organisations to ensure that they contribute their quota towards the development of their communities and the nation at large, Oyitso said: “Church should not be seen as a taker but also as a giver.

“A parable was told in the bible about the good Samaritan and since then the question is asked, who is your neighbour? So, we are advising other churches to team up with RCCG and help humanity as much as possible.”

The Assistant Pastor- in- charge of the parish, Pastor Kehinde Buraimoh, said the church is bent on showing forth the light of God in the area.

One of the residents, Mrs. Oby Ekpo, appreciated the gesture of the church.

She said: “We have been in the state of darkness for years and when they approached us that they wanted to do the street lights we were happy because we know that it will help us to curb the rate of crime in this our environment and also enhance security.”
