    EUFA Europa League: Kehinde Fatai scores hat trick

    Nigeria striker Kehinde Fatai continued his red-hot form with a hat-trick for Romanian club Astra Giurgiu in a Europa League qualifying match against Slovan Liberec of Czech Republic on Thursday.

    Astra Giurgiu trounced their visitors 3-0 in third round qualifying game with the former Nigeria U20 striker, who scored the first goal in the new Romanian league season last week, opening scoring for his club after just four minutes.

    He doubled his club’s lead on 74 minutes, before he completed his superb hat-trick in the 81st minute.

    Ex-JUTH FC star Fatai is back in Romania after a loan spell at Club Brugge of Belgium.

    Ogbu scores again for new Chinese club

    Nigerian striker Derick Chuka Ogbu scored his third goal for new Chinese club Liaoning on Thursday.

    Liaoning lost 5-1 at home to Guanghzou RF with Ogbu getting his consolation goal in the 40th minute.

    The 24-year-old Ogbu had netted a brace on his debut for his new club in a 3-3 draw with Shanghai East Asia FC.

    The well-travelled striker has signed a one and half years contract with Liaoning.

    Ogbu’s club are second from bottom of the 16-team Chinese Super League with 15 points from 17 matches.

    Ogbeche scores in Cambuur win

    Bartholomew Ogbeche continued his impressive pre-season form for SC Cambuur as he scored in their 2-1 win over FC Volendam on Tuesday.

    Ogbeche scored in the 39th minute to extend Cambuur’s lead after Bob Schepers had opened scoring for the Eredivisie campaigners in the 23rd minute.

    Volendam pulled a late goal back courtesy of an 81st minute strike from Ludcinio Marengo in the 81st minute, but Cambuur held on to win the game.

    Ogbeche was also on target for Cambuur in their earlier pre-season games against De Graafschap and Almere City.

    Daniel Chima scores in Molde big win

    Nigerian striker Daniel Chima Chukwu scored his fifth goal in the Norwegian league yesterday.

    It was on his return to Molde first team after he was an unused substitute in the team’s 1-1 draw at Gorica in a UEFA Champions league tie last week.

    Molde beat closest rivals Rosenborg 3-1 on Sunday with Chima finding the back of the net in the 55th minute to give his team a 2-0 lead.

    Molde remain top of the league with 42 points from 17 games, while Rosenborg slipped to fourth with 30 points from same number of matches.

    Iheanacho scores again

    Kelechi Iheanacho continued his impressive pre season form for his English Premier League side, Manchester City by finding the back of the net in the Champions Cup game against AC Milan last night.

    The International Champions Cup is a pre season tournament holding in Pittsburg and played between top selected clubsides across European Leagues with Manchester City in the same group alongside Liverpool, Olympiakos and AC Milan.

    The red hot Iheanacho,who came into global limelight after playing a pivotal role as Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets won a record fourth FIFA U-17 World Cup trophy in the UAE last year scored his goal for City,which was the fourth of the game against the Italian giants in 26th minute.

    Last night’s goal was his second in a row for the Citizens

    following his debut goal for the EPL champions four days ago in another pre season game against Sporting Kansaa City in the U.S.

    Iheanacho, 17, was voted the best player at the U-17 World Cup in December last year, taking home the golden ball, while also winning the silver boot for being the second highest goal scorer in the tournament.

    In January this year, he signed up for Premiership giants Manchester City and is hoping to be a part of the their team during the forthcoming season.

    Iheanacho flew out with Manchester City for their pre-season tour of the US and got to make his debut last Wednesday.

    Pre-season win: Ike Uche scores for Villarreal

    Nigerian international, Ikechukwu Uche, was on target for Villarreal in their 2-0 pre-season win over Reus on Saturday.

    The former Getafe player grabbed the match opener in the 2nd minute, before Javier Espinosa Gonzalez’s strike fifteen minutes later.

    In the second half, the Yellow Submarines made wholesale changes to their line up but failed to add to their tally.

    In Finland, Vincent Onovo scored to help FC Inter earn a 3-3 draw at home to highly fancied Helsinki, while Henry Chidozie Ugwunna performed well and was on song in Haka’s 5-0 victory over JIPPO.

    Igboananike scores ‘wonder strike’ for AIK

    Kennedy Igboananike scored for AIK Solna as they recorded a 2-0 win over Linfield on Thursday to advance to the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

    After a goalless first-half and with his side already trailing 1-0 on aggregate, Igboananike opened scoring for AIK in the 56th minute of the game.

    The forward ran into a through ball and dashed towards Linfield’s vital area where he floored a defender, rounded a goalkeeper, before slotting the ball home with a left footed strike.

    Henok Goitom scored in the 72nd minute with a ferocious left footed drive from the front of the box to seal AIK’s passage to the third qualifying round of the Europa League with a 2-1 aggregate win.

  • Aluko scores in Tigers’ win

    Nigeria winger, Sone Aluko, was on target in Hull City’s 2-0 win over York in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.

    Sone Aluko and Yanick Sagbo struck after the interval to break York’s stubborn resistance and settle matters.

    The Tigers were matched by their Yorkshire counterparts in what was largely an uneventful first 45 minutes, with the only real action of note coming when summer signing Robert Snodgrass saw his goal disallowed after the assistant referee ruled that Shane Long had failed to prevent Ahmed Elmohamady’s cross from going out of play.

    Robbie Brady had an opportunity to open the scoring after Long was awarded a free-kick 25-yards from goal following a foul by Marvin McCoy. However, the chance went to waste as the Irishman fired the set-piece over the bar.

    Within five minutes of the restart, the Tigers opened the scoring. Aluko picked the ball up outside the area and let fly with a 25-yard effort that crept under the body of Ingham.

    The home side responded in positive fashion and came close to leveling the scores when Jake Hyde forced Allan McGregor into making a smart save.

    Ince could have made it 2-0 when he was put through one-on-one, only to fire straight at Ingham, before Michael Coulson was denied by the top of the crossbar after latching onto Ryan Jarvis’ ball over the top.

    The Tigers secured the win with 13 minutes remaining when Sagbo smashed the ball past substitute keeper Jason Mooney following a defensive mistake from Keith Lowe.

    Hull City, who would be participating in the UEFA Europa League, FA Cup, Carling Cup and the Premier League, are eyeing a good show in the competitions and Aluko is expected to play a key role in their campaign next season.

  • pre-season Training Game: Kayode scores again

    Maccabi Netanya continued their preparations for the 2014 – 2015 season on Tuesday with another exhibition game against Kecskeméti TE at their training camp in Hungary.

    The Hungarian topflight team raced into a two – goal lead inside 50 minutes but the Diamonds fought back to level the scoreline, with Nigeria youth international Olarenwaju Kayode finding the back of the net in the 70th minute.

    Kayode has scored in each of the last five test games for the First Division champions,  as they remain unbeaten since the start of pre – season practice.

    In recent days, the 21 – year – old has been linked with Chievo Verona (Italy) and Samsunspor (Turkey).

    He renewed his vows with Maccabi Netanya in April by extending his contract for two more seasons.

  • Ogbeche scores again in friendly

    Ex-Nigeria international Bartholomew Ogbeche was again among the goals for his Dutch Eredivise side SC Cambuur as they thrashed De Graafschap 5-2 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

    Ogbeche, who has won 20 caps for Nigeria, scored his side’s fifth goal in the 87th minute to wrap up the victory and underline his rich vein of form ahead of the new season.

    Last season, the 29-year-old forward scored two goals in 10 league games for Cambuur and will now be hoping for an improvement in the new season.

    Ogbeche has played for Paris Saint-Germain, Bastia, Metz (France), Al Jazira (UAE), Alaves, Real Valladolid, Cadiz, Xerez (all in Spain), Kavala (Greece) and Middlesbrough (England).
