Coalition lambastes Atiku over attack on Seyi Tinubu

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) has expressed disappointment  over the statement credited to the former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, criticising the honours recently accorded Seyi Tinubu.

The President-General of CONYL, Goodluck Ibem, who issued  a statement in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the weekend described Atiku as an attention seeker.

Ibem said it was unfortunate that Atiku, who should be talking about serious state matters to add value to the nation having held the position of a Vice- President would reduce himself to a beer parlour gossip.

“This shows he (Atiku)  has lost relevance and has nothing serious to offer to our nation”, he said.

He recalled that the Community Auxiliary Development for Effective Transformation Network (CADETN) is the organisation behind the guard of honor mounted for Seyi.

He said the group had come out to clarified that it was a youth-focused voluntary group similar to Man O’ War and Peace Corps, and not affiliated with the Nigerian Armed Forces.

He said the Corps Commander, Josh Fatoye, had explained  that such guards of honor were standard protocol for welcoming dignitaries at their events and were not exclusive to Seyi Tinubu.

Ibem said Fatoye also explained that the organization did not use military paraphernalia or live ammunition during the ceremony, but wooden crafted dummy rifles, a common practice among similar uniformed groups.

He said: “The Nigerian Army has stated that it was not behind the quarter guard salute accorded to Seyi Tinubu. What is Atiku looking for?.

“The clarifications from both groups confirm that the honors were conducted by a civilian voluntary organization without any official military involvement.

“The whole scenario is a confirmation that Atiku is still suffering from the trauma of the series of presidential elections he lost from 2007 to 2023. The blows of electoral defeat is still very hot on him.

“We therefore call on Atiku to leave Seyi Tinubu alone because he is very busy with serious matters that is impacting lives for good”.

Special Assistant to Ogun State Governor on Youth Development and National President of All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth League, Comrade Olamide Lawal, has issued a statement addressing the criticism surrounding Seyi Tinubu’s participation in a youth summit and empowerment programme held in Ogun State.

The event, organised by CityBoy Movement, under Tinubu’s coordination, aimed to empower youths across the state with financial and entrepreneurial support.

However, it has sparked controversy over claims that Seyi Tinubu received a paramilitary guard of honour from members of the armed forces—a claim Lawal described as “misguided and politically-motivated.”

In the statement, Lawal clarified that the group involved in the guard of honour was not part of the armed forces, but rather members of the Cadet Network-Nigeria, Ogun State Command, an affiliate of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

“This is a disciplined organisation, akin to the Boys Scouts or Boys Brigade. It is a common practice for such groups to honour personalities as a way to inspire other young people to aim higher. “Unfortunately, some individuals are twisting this into a negative narrative for petty political reasons,” Lawal said.

He hailed Seyi Tinubu for his commitment to youth empowerment.

Group endorses Seyi Tinubu as next Lagos governor

A prominent socio-political organisation, Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST), has endorsed Seyi Tinubu as next governor of Lagos State come 2027.

The group described Seyi Tinubu as a visionary leader with rare blend of intellect, empathy, and strategic acumen, saying Tinubu is the quintessential choice to drive Lagos state into a future defined by prosperity and innovation.

A statement by FOST President, Comr. Adejorin Tai Manuel said Seyi Tinubu’s philanthropic contributions, leadership acumen, and commitment to societal progress is evidence of his readiness to serve as governor.

According to him, Tinubu’s dynamic approach to governance and human capital development positions him as a transformative figure capable of consolidating on the achievements of his predecessors while setting new benchmarks for excellence.

He said: “Lagos State deserves a leader who embodies innovation, altruism, and strategic foresight. Seyi Tinubu has consistently demonstrated these qualities, making him uniquely qualified to steer Lagos into an era of unprecedented advancement.”

Responding to criticism from Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths, who opposed Tinubu’s gubernatorial aspirations on the grounds of indigeneity, the group described such statements as baseless and violation of democratic principles, adding that growth of Lagos State has always been driven by diversity and inclusivity.

“It is preposterous to suggest that Seyi Tinubu, whose contributions to societal development are well-documented, should be excluded from aspiring for office based on perceived indigeneity. Lagos is a cosmopolitan hub powered by the industriousness of all its residents, regardless of origin.”

FOST further commended the endorsement of Seyi Tinubu by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), describing it as recognition of Tinubu’s leadership potential.

The group criticised detractors who labeled the endorsement as “anti-democratic,” saying such claims is a desperate attempt to derail Tinubu’s aspirations.

“No individual or group has the right to dictate who can or cannot aspire to serve Lagos State. Seyi Tinubu has an unassailable constitutional right to pursue his aspirations, and we urge all stakeholders to focus on debates about governance and developmental strategies rather than baseless accusations.”

With over 700,000 committed members, FOST pledged its unwavering support for Seyi Tinubu’s candidacy, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver progressive governance and socio-economic transformation.

The group called on Lagosians to rally behind Tinubu and align with his vision for a brighter future.

“The time to act is now. Together, we can actualize our collective dreams for Lagos State. Seyi Tinubu stands ready to serve, and we are confident that his leadership will set global benchmarks for urban governance and development,” the statement concluded.

As the 2027 gubernatorial elections approach, the endorsement of Seyi Tinubu by FOST signals growing momentum behind his candidacy and a potential shift in the political landscape of Lagos state.
