Reflecting on Seyi Tinubu’s exemplary youth-centric exploits

    By Gold Adesola Adedayo

Nigeria has produced so many President with successful sons and daughters, but Seyi Tinubu stands tall and towering among all. His incredibly  dominant stature was not in his body length and weight, but in his well fitted intellectual capacity, street credibility, dazzling generosity and unsurpassable love for the youth population.

His scintillating youth empowerment drives earned him the sobriquet: “The King of Boys”. As a middle aged man, he has promoted countless of youth to be big players in the business world, governance and politics. In fact, he really deserves and earns the respect being widely accorded him.

Going by the trajectory of leadership in Nigeria, class differences has been a major snag widening the gulf between the children of the privileged few and the poor. Hardly could people have access to the children of a governor, let alone a president that is holed up in the Presidential Villa.

But Seyi Tinubu is a man without protocol. He has demystified this myth and defied this long standing history. He has a demeanour that is outstanding and different from others. While some were creating and building classes and walls, Seyi was dismantling barriers to fraternise with the poor. He loathes pride and unnecessary social stratification. This has differentiated him from others in his ilk.

Most fascinating among his landmark exploits in life has been the way he carries the youth empowerment right on his head. Even before  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidential ascendancy, he had been championing the cause of the Nigerian youth.

He holds the fanatical view that the monster called “poverty” can be utterly dismantled within the youth’s ranks,  with government and privileged people pulling the right strings and placing their hands on the right ploughs.

As a serving Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development under a youth- friendly governor, Biodun Oyebanji, I knew the difficulties being encountered by young population. I knew how much our government was expending to disentangle Ekiti youth from the web of poverty.  I understand the enormity of the task ahead to really put their feet on a rocky pedestal.

Under the foregoing context, I am in an apt position to cherish whoever commits his personal and hard earned money to support government in subduing some of the identified  challenges confronting our productive population. It is with the spectrum I am viewing Seyi Tinubu’s exhilarating exploits in youth empowerment.

Since his father mounted the saddle of governance two years ago, he has demonstrated that the youth are majorly his focus and nothing more. Without the risk of being immodest, Seyi was instrumental to many of the youth that were appointed into his father’s cabinet. This accounted for why the Tinubu’s government stands tall as the most youth- friendly government in history. The skeptics and naysayers can take me up on this, by cross checking my fact, which I know is unassailable.

It is saddening and heartrending that everything is politicized in Nigeria. His fraternity and closeness with the poor was being misinterpreted by some critics to mean an attempt to hoodwink the youth into voting for his father in 2027. Those opposed to his charming ideas have been making insalubrious comments to shoot down his good intention. Despite this, he remained unfazed in  his commitment to this onerous duty.

Rather than to offer accolades for the series of empowerments, both in cash and kind that he had undertaken, the critics undeservedly reeled out invectives and condemnations, contriving all manners of dirty intrigues to politicise his actions, as if everything starts and ends with politics.

In this just concluded Ramadan season by Muslims all over the world, Seyi demonstrated his stuff as one guy with panache and clairvoyance. He toured virtually all the States in the Northern Nigeria where Islamic adherents are majorly domiciled to lend hand of fellowship. He distributed cash gifts and food stuffs to exhibit the spirit of camaraderie to Muslim Ummah.

In case the self appointed critics, who see nothing good in him didn’t know, Seyi, a co-founder of  Noella Foundation, had partnered with well-meaning firms within and outside the country to create over 10,000 jobs for unemployed Nigerians. Among these staggering numbers are graduates and artisans. No group or class was alienated. It is all-inclusive, because of his belief in one Nigeria.

As a true son of his father, he owes it a duty to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda being driven by President Tinubu. This could be predicated on the fact that the intention behind Tinubu’s agenda, where youth occupies a prime of place, coincides with his unflagging belief that youth must be accorded priority in governance.

Speaking in Kano, Gombe, Adamawa, Yobe and Kaduna States during one of his impactful outings, he disabused the minds of those linking his moves and body languages to politics. He said his passion for youth empowerment and economic emancipation predated his father’s presidency. It is an inbuilt natural instinct.

He was emphatic that he would continue to fight the cause of the Nigerian youth, whether his father is in position of authority or not. I firmly believe his assertion, because he is a man of his words. He always walk the talk and  doesn’t play to the gallery. This is one trait that has made him a symbol of honesty.

As of August 1, 2024, Nigeria’s population is just under 230 million, with youth comprising 70%, which is about 160 million. Out of this tally, over 50% of them are either unemployed or underemployed. The  foregoing was fueling the japa syndrome among Nigerian youth.

This puts a great deal of task on the shoulders of our leadership and successful individuals to coalesce actions, to forestall Nigeria’s future from total collapse. Like a prophet, he realised this  long ago and was well mobilised to take up the gauntlet against rising poverty pummeling the youth.

This highly futuristic youth leader never opposed japa, connoting the frequent traveling of Nigerian youth abroad to seek greener pastures. Seyi doesn’t hold the view that there are no viable opportunities in Nigeria. He was of the opinion that they can realised their potential here if supported through government policies, programmes and most importantly, factoring them into the political and economic focuses.

In spite of plethora of criticisms against him, his good deeds had attracted accolades from great and high profile Nigerians. The Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmad Aliyu,  recently praised Seyi Tinubu, who is the founder of the Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Initiative, for his contributions to politics and economic development. He called on him to extend his programmes to Sokoto’s young population.

The Governor urged Nigerians to stop politicising and  weaponising ethnicity to shoot down good intentions. He commended Tinubu for his philanthropic gestures during Ramadan, especially towards the less privileged across the North.

Rising above the pedestrian ethnic barometer with which some viewed things in Nigeria, Tinubu expressed commitment to youth development in Sokoto, pledging that his foundation would continue to support initiatives across the state’s 23 local government areas.

Also, speaking at a medical outreach in Abuja to commemorate International Youth Day, he said NOELLA  foundation in the next few months would create more jobs by upskilling young Nigerians with tools, resources, and opportunities that empower them to carve their own niche towards success in different industries.

“In a world where the challenges facing our young generation are both numerous and complex, Noella Foundation has emerged as a beacon of hope, a driving force that propels dreams into reality,” Tinubu said. As we look forward to the horizon of the next twelve months, we stand on the cusp of witnessing something truly remarkable. We would also back this up by setting up exchange programs and summits within and outside Afric

“We would also encourage those who have begun thriving businesses with resources to do more and employ more. We would also fill vacancies in organisations and institutions with young Nigerians who are willing and able to work.

“As we celebrate this remarkable day, let us be reminded of the countless stories that will soon unfold. Stories of young minds breaking free from the shackles of unemployment, stories of resilience, determination, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

“Each of these jobs will be a stepping stone, a bridge that connects aspiration to achievement. Nigeria is blessed with a youthful population, with over 65% under the age of 30, making it one of the most blessed nation with youngest population  globally”, the young Tinubu stated.

The Forum of Nigerian Youth and Sports Commissioners, which I chaired, valued Seyi Tinubu’s strides in youth empowerment and development. That was why we immediately proceeded to engage him after my election on March 29, 2025, and gave the unshakeable assurances that we will work with him closely for his good deeds to percolate down to the states.

The Commissioners used the veritable interface to pass a vote of confidence in the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande. They eulogised President Tinubu for giving the nation a truly youth loving individual to man the Ministry.

According to Adedayo, working with Seyi Tinubu and the Youth Minister connotes that his colleagues are incurably desirous of seeing their dreams of ensuring that the youth are economically, socially and politically viable, to be seamlessly accomplished across the states of the federation.

Building of a virile Private-Public Partnership initiative, we unshakably believed, will build a more robust networks that will make young population highly productive and economically engaging.

Seyi Tinubu will transform Lagos to Dubai, Obidike assured

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Obidike Chukwuebuka has expressed confidence in Seyi Tinubu’s ability to transform Lagos into a world-class city, rivaling Dubai.

According to Obidike, critics of Seyi Tinubu will live to see him achieve this vision as Lagos Governor.

He spoke on the heels of Seyi Tinubu’s endorsement by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) as the ideal candidate for the Lagos governorship seat in 2027.

Despite some opposition, many believe Seyi Tinubu has the potential to build on his father’s legacy and bring about significant positive changes to Lagos.

While some critics have expressed doubts about Seyi Tinubu’s candidacy, Obidike’s statement serves as a testament to the confidence many have in his ability to lead Lagos towards a brighter future.

Northern advocate commends Seyi Tinubu’s philanthropy amid criticism

A northern advocate, Comrade Musa Ibrahim, has praised the philanthropic efforts of Seyi Tinubu across Nigeria, condemning the criticisms surrounding his acts of kindness.

In a statement, Ibrahim lauded Seyi Tinubu for his commitment to supporting the needy, despite being the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“On behalf of my team, I commend Mr. Seyi Tinubu for his relentless efforts to alleviate the suffering of the masses. Unlike many children of political leaders who remain within the corridors of power, Seyi has chosen to make an impact through business and philanthropy,” he said.

Ibrahim emphasized that Seyi Tinubu personally funds his charitable initiatives without government resources.

He highlighted the role of the Nuel Foundation in extending aid beyond Lagos, demonstrating Seyi’s dedication to giving back to society.

He also noted Seyi Tinubu’s recent efforts to support Muslims observing Ramadan, particularly in northern Nigeria.

“Rather than criticizing him, skeptics should verify the source of funding for his initiatives, which have been privately sustained for the past six years,” Ibrahim added.

  • Seyi Tinubu deserves medals, not attacks – Balami

Seyi Tinubu deserves medals, not attacks – Balami

The criticism by some individuals of the recent tour of the north by the President’s son Seyi Tinubu has been termed needless and politically motivated by foremost All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and youths advocate, Comrade Isaac Balami.

He said the calls by Nigerians and Lagosians on Seyi Tinubu to take a shot at the Governorship position may have motivated the sudden campaign of calumny.

Addressing the media in Abuja on Monday, the former spokesperson of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and ex-national president of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers said he would have preferred to write Seyi Tinubu to express gratitude to him for going far into the north with his usual humanitarian and selfless nature but chose to rather express his feelings in the media so unaware and misled Nigerians could learn from it.

According to Balami, rather than being attacked for being selfless, Seyi Tinubu should be awarded some medals for all he has done for the unity and progress of the country and for extending his humanitarian work to all parts of the country regardless of religion and political affiliations.

While terming the criticism that greeted his recent visit to the north as needless and politically motivated, Balami said: “The haters of Nigeria know that what Seyi Tinubu is doing will amount to not just victory for himself, but victory for young people.”

He said until Seyi Tinubu was approached by young people to run for the highest office in Lagos State, his patriotic acts never offended the sensibility of some haters.

Balami said as he continues to reach out to none tribal youths and the less privileged, the President’s son appears to be gearing towards winning a medal of peace and unity.

He argued many Nigerians would want their children to be like Seyi Tinubu., saying, “Of course, who is that parent whose prayer is not to have a child who is dedicated to doing the will of God as against doing the will of men?

“Nigerians should rather call on young politicians, local government administrators and other young entrepreneurs to emulate Seyi Tinubu by supporting individuals who are truly in need and not to discourage this young man.

“Mr Seyi Tinubu had started this Iftar reach-outs 10-15 years ago when the father was not the nation’s president. Are some people saying he should quit because the father is the current president? What, therefore, is wrong should the son of the president reaches out to those in need or genuinely shares some moments with northern Muslims at their quiet and prayerful time?

“The most ridiculous is the insinuation that his gesture was politically motivated. Even if Seyi is doing this for political reasons, what is wrong?

“We know how children of presidents behave. Many won’t come down from their high horses, but Seyi has continued to do what most children of presidents have never done. He is down to earth. So what would Nigerians prefer, a Seyi who parties all around the world or a Seyi who is sensitive to the needs of his people? I’m sure some Nigerians will be happy to see the son of the president partying away in Dubai and all around the world. They will be happy because useful time and resources are being wasted on frivolities. Seyi may have disappointed some persons who have such expectations.

“It’s perplexing that we love to trivialize serious issues in this country and until we stop our emotion from consuming the best part of us, we will continue to display high level of ignorance while taking a stance on issues.

“Today, many prominent Nigerians have made it a culture to always reach out to either Christian’s and Muslims during their fasting period. As we speak, many top Nigerians have continued to tour the north in support of Muslims who are having quiet and prayerful moments. How is Seyi Tinubu’s tour of the north different?

“Seyi, during the COVID-19 era shocked the world, with his NGO rendering unimaginable services and supports across the country. Has Seyi’s personality changed simply because his father is the current president?

“I had recounted before how Seyi had out of his usual magnanimity released a huge amount of money for the treatment of an obidient youth who campaigned against his father. He has also supported individuals across party lines including youths from the PDP and APGA. It’s only a man with the large heart that can assist a “traducer.”

Balami further said it would be unfair to Seyi Tinubu if people miss the statement he continues to make with his various humanitarian efforts, stating that in his detribalized mentality, he had engaged more none-tribal staff in his organization.

“More than 50 percent of the staff in his organization are northerners,” Balami said.

“In my own view and as stated earlier, Mr Seyi Tinubu deserves a medal and not a death sentence. My prayer is that God should give us ‘Seyis’ in our families.

“My brother Seyi, do not get discouraged because your success, without doubt is for the good of Nigeria.

“In local parlance, ‘na only tree wey dey produce ripe fruit, people dey stone to pluck.’ In no time, Nigerians will begin to see clearly the fruits in you.

“People wanted you to take the place of God, but you are not God. You have your shortcoming too as human. But we are optimistic that you will be remembered only for the positive things you have done. Please continue to do what you can do as human and ignore completely any form of distractions,” the former National Deputy Campaign Manager for Obi/Datti said.

Seyi Tinubu had recently taken a tour of the north in solidarity with northerners and Muslim communities in the spirit of Ramadan and empowering various individuals in the process.

“He is the only president that has kept your people at home, from when he was governor to when be became president, the only president that considers youths, the only president that created a platform for young people to fly.

“The only president that created an economy that has benefitted everybody, the only president that is not trying to enrich his own pocket,” he stated.

Seyi’s remarks followed his ongoing engagements with youths in northern states, where he has been distributing food items and taking part in Ramadan festivities.

My father cares for youths, says Seyi Tinubu

Seyi, son of President Bola Tinubu, has stated his father cares for youths.

He said the student loan scheme and other policies were deliberately created to showcase his passion for the youths.

He spoke on Sunday evening with youths drawn from across Adamawa State.

Seyi pointed out the youth-oriented policies are products of his father’s passion for the good of youths.

Seyi, who observed the day’s breaking of Ramadan fast with the youths, stressed that his father wants young Nigerians to thrive.

According to him: “This is the only President that conceived students’ loan program, the only President that created platform for young people to thrive, the only president who creates economy that benefits everybody.”

He added that his father is the sort of President who does not seek to enrich his pockets but strives always to reposition the country for national prosperity.

He explained that he was in Yola for iftar (Ramadan fast-breaking meal) and generally mix with his peers.

While in Adamawa, Seyi took time to extend philanthropic gestures, including a visit to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, where he toured some wards and settled bills of patients.

He was also at a number of mosques and orphanage homes where he gave out food items and other valuables.

Seyi was received at the airport in Yola and accompanied to his activities by prominent chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the party’s National Vice Chairman for North East, Comrade Mustapha Salihu.

Salihu, who spoke to newsmen on Seyi’s visit, said the visit to Adamawa was historic and identifying with patients and orphanage homes particularly commendable.

“He put himself in the shoes of those people and decided to meet their needs and alleviate their pain,” the APC leader said of Seyi’s gestures.

Speaking on Seyi’s interaction with youths, Adamawa APC chairman Shuaibu Idris said: “If you don’t engage youths and show that you care for them, they will engage themselves and the consequences can be serious.”

Seyi Tinubu breaks fast in Kano, flags off feeding programme

Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, on Monday evening joined the youth and political leaders in Kano city to break his third Ramadan.

Prayers were held at Al-Furqan Mosque, while the breaking of fast took place at Amani Event Centre, all in the ancient city of Kano.

Seyi marked the occasion with a special Iftar and the launch of a feeding programme for the underprivileged.

The occasion was part of his (Seyi Tinubu’s) Renewed Hope for Youth Engagement (RHYE) initiative, aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, including physically challenged persons.

The feeding programme aligns with the broader vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda of his father’s administration.

Before the Iftar, Seyi Tinubu paid a courtesy visit to elder statesman and business magnate, Aminu Dantata.

He also met with the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, later in the day.

Seyi’s visit reunited the sons of Kano political gladiators. The Iftar gathering brought together the sons of Governor Abba Yusuf, former governors Abdullahi Ganduje and Ibrahim Shekarau, among others.

Also, in a rare display of political unity, the Iftar gathering brought together notable members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as well as other political parties.

For instance, the state NNPP chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, APC chieftain Dan Agundi, and several NNPP government appointees were present, reinforcing the event’s significance as beyond party affiliation.

Seyi thanked the people of Kano for the warm reception, show of love, and respect. “Thank you; Thank you; And Thank you,” he said.

The president’s son emphasised the importance of community service and social welfare, particularly during Ramadan. He reiterated his commitment to initiatives that uplift the underprivileged and foster national unity.

Seyi’s feeding programme is expected to provide essential meals to thousands of fasting people in Kano, particularly to the underprivileged.

  • From business to politics: The making of his footprints

From business to politics: The making of his footprints

    • By Maxwell Uzochukwu

It is often assumed that people born with the proverbial silver spoon absorb the system and rarely receive anything on merit. Yet, like most fallacies, such generalisations hardly stand up to scrutiny.

For example, President Bola Tinubu’s first son, Seyi Tinubu, was made the ECOWAS Youth Ambassador for Entrepreneurship & Youth Development in 2019, when he was hardly in the public eye. One year later, he was inducted into the ECOWAS Youth Council in recognition of his contributions to entrepreneurship and youth development. These recognitions came years before his father became the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    Back to the beginning

As far back as 2013, Seyi co-founded Loatsad Promomedia, an advertising company that has become a leader in Nigeria’s advertising industry. The company has since expanded its clientele to include some of Nigeria’s leading blue-chip and multinational companies. He achieved these accomplishments over a decade ago as an independent, resourceful and forward-thinking young man.

Seyi also founded Red Dot Media, another advertising agency known for its creative marketing strategies. Any narrative knitted to portray someone with such accomplishments as a latter-day upstart lost in the woods of obscurity is misleading and often agenda-driven. Seyi began paying his dues and earning his stripes long before May 29, 2023.

    Leveraging goodwill, a global practice

His career trajectory also encompasses significant achievements in real estate, advertising, and philanthropy.

When he is not redefining the outdoor or out-of-home (OOH) advertising space in Nigeria, Seyi is involved in the real estate and property development sector, where he gained valuable experience in property development, management, and investment.

Of course, he leveraged his goodwill to support his father’s presidential bid in 2023, but that was just as well. Attempts to stimulate or engage generational interest in civic responsibility are not new.

President Donald Trump credited his son, Barron, with rallying Gen Z in his favour through podcasts and other social media interventions. Similarly, a US voter made the headlines by taking her two-year-old daughter to vote at the last presidential election, a cycle started by her mother when she was six.

At the height of the 2023 presidential election campaign, when his father’s closest allies either abandoned or betrayed him, Seyi walked where angels feared to tread, quietly pulling the strings backstage.

    Mountain and molehill

He is an excellent youth mobiliser and has participated in various youth capacity-building programmes. However, since his father became president, his roles have been given a malicious political twist.

Has Seyi been involved in his father’s administration? Yes. Does he participate in official visits and contribute to the welfare of people? Yes. But why would anyone assume he is involved in appointing key government officials?

The only conceivable reason people would think he wields significant influence in government is the false assumption that he would stop being active in the sectors where he has been playing actively for over a decade – real estate and advertisement – and, especially, notable philanthropic endeavours which he has used to impact so many lives across the country.

    Passion for charity scaled up

Before now, Seyi has followed his passion for charity and generosity. In 2020, for example, he launched an initiative to provide free eye screenings and surgical operations to Lagosians, reviving the spirit of his father’s 2001 “Jigi Bola” programme.

His desire to help those in need grew after his father became president. If he had cut back on hard work and charity post-May 2023, critics would have said he probably said he lost his appetite after his father entered the Villa.

In 2024, he provided monthly healthcare services to approximately 600,000 indigent patients and donated N500m to flood victims in Borno State in the same year.

    In their own words

In a recent article published in ThisDay, Keem Abdul painted a much more introspective picture of the guy who happens to be the president’s son. The writer said that at first glance, Seyi might seem like nothing more than a child of privilege, a pampered prince trying to ride on the coattails of a famous and influential father into the corridors of power. But just like many others who have had an encounter with Seyi, the writer said, on close examination, there’s more to Seyi than meets the eye.

“Seyi Tinubu harbours an unwavering commitment to ensuring positive change in Nigeria via the private sector (and in particular, the MSME ecosystem) as well as by empowering Nigeria’s millennial demographic towards achieving their full potential through entrepreneurship development, innovation, and sustainable ideas initiatives – such as the ones regularly facilitated by the Noella Foundation – the NGO he co-founded and runs with his wife, Layal. The foundation is focused on supporting tech startups and empowering young people,” Abdul wrote.

As Faith Ajayi alluded to in an article before the 2023 presidential election, some people refer to Seyi as his father’s unofficial personal assistant. That shouldn’t be a problem for someone whose journey combines entrepreneurial success, civil engagement, and a commitment to philanthropy.

Whether it positions him as a significant figure in Nigeria’s contemporary landscape (or not), Seyi’s accomplishments in those areas predate May 2023 and will outlive his current status.

There are still new frontiers to conquer.
