  • StarTimes splashes more millions on subscribers

    More Nigerians have continued to benefit from the ongoing StarTimes millionaire promo, with 9 million Naira already given out to subscribers in the last 2 months.

    This is coming amid angry reactions to a recent price increment by other Pay TV providers in the country.

    So far, 9 million Naira in cash have been given out to 9 lucky subscribers, 45 people have won 43-inch TV sets and a 1-year free subscription dished out to 180 subscribers.

    Lagos based Vulcanizer and 43-year-old father of 5, Oyegoke Sunday, who won 1 million Naira expressed his joy at his emergence as a winner. According to him, he had no dreams of ever winning such an amount from any company. While speaking emotionally to newsmen, he thanked the company for coming through for him and other Nigerians in such difficult times and promised to stay loyal as a customer.

    According to the company’s Public Relations Manager, Kunmi Balogun, “The promo will run for a total of 14 weeks. With 9 weeks down, 5 more lucky subscribers will take home N1,000,000 weekly until July 31, while 20 customers will get a brand new 43inch StarTimes TV set.”

    He added that “to qualify, existing subscribers are required to pay for a 1-month subscription on any of our bouquet while new subscribers who buy and activate new decoder are automatically entered for the draw.”

    So far, 180 subscribers have also been awarded 1-year free subscription with a total of 100 more to be picked to enjoy the free subscription in a weekly draw conducted under the supervision of the National Lottery Commission of Nigeria.

  • StarTimes signs deal with Discovery and Fox

    In a bid to continue delivering quality to its customers, cable TV operator, StarTimes, on June 29, signed deals with both Discovery and Fox to bring high quality entertainment to viewers across Africa through TV and OTT platform.

    Amanda Turnbull, Vice President and General Manager for Discovery in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), and StarTimes Head of Content Operation Center, Janet Liu, agreed on the broadcast rights of three general entertainment and lifestyle channels in addition to Discovery Family, alongside Investigation Discovery (ID), which will remain on the platform.

    StarTimes and Discovery are also planning the launch of a new female lifestyle channel, Real Time, for the modern African woman later this year.

    Fox Executive Vice President, Adam Theiler, and StarTimes Head of Content Operation Center, Janet Liu, agreed to continue to broadcast Fox channels on StarTimes platform. These channels are FOX Channel, FOX Life, FOX Sports, FOX Sports 2, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, Baby TV and Voyage. They will be available in English, French and Portuguese.

    Furthermore, StarTimes will also offer Fox and National Geographic content on its OTT platform. SVOD services Fox+ and NG+ will join some 70 channels already available on the StarTimes App.

  • StarTimes, Ooni empower less privileged

    StarTimes Nigeria is  partnering with Hopes Alive Initiative (HAI), a Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan, to empower the less privileged.

    During a Give-Back Concert held recently in Lagos, the Managing Director of StarTimes Nigeria, Justin Zhang, said CSR is a core value at StarTimes Nigeria. He said StarTimes focuses on children because they are the most vulnerable in the society.

    “When we heard about this laudable initiative from the Ooni of Ife, we took an interest immediately because we are always optimistic about getting involved with youths projects.

    “We have a project currently ongoing in Abuja and we are working with Nigerians in conjunction with the Chinese Government to support the villages in Nigeria,” Zhang said.

    HAI, which is targeted at the less privileged, seeks to draw attention and bring out abilities in disabilities, thereby using the platform to raise funds for orphanages.

    HAI in collaboration with StarTimes said it seeks to empower the less privileged in the society as a way of creating a sustainable social value for communities and individuals.

    The Ooni urged well-meaning Nigerians to care  for the less privileged children, to enable more orphans benefit and sustain a decent living.

    “I have made up my mind to celebrate the less privileged. I want them to meet with world leaders and successful people in the society so that they can feel what a regular person in the society feels. Believe me; these kids have raw, untapped, amazing and unique talents,” the Ooni stated.

  • StarTimes unveils video streaming service

    StarTimes yesterday announced the official launch of its app video streaming.

    In a statement the company said to mark the launching of the new service, the first 40,000 users will enjoy a very attractive pre-order offer for watching World Cup on StarTimes App.

    It said the first 40,000 subscribers will only need pay N450.00  only to subscribe to “ON Sport” on StarTimes App as against N1, 500 to watch all 64 World Cup matches live in HD, including Nigeria’s on the pitch.

    Besides live matches, full highlights, build-ups, interviews, analysis and magazine shows will also be available with the 5 StarTimes sports channels in the StarTimes “ON Sport” service the statement stated.

  • Russia 2018: Septuagenarian becomes millionaire in StarTimes promo

    A 71-year old civil engineer from Akure, Tony Fakuade has emerged as the first millionaire in the on-going StarTimes World Cup millionaire promo through a raffle draw in Lagos.

    The draw which produced Fakuade as the first winner in the 3-month promotion, held under the supervision of the National Lottery Board Commission.

    The official broadcaster of the FIFA 2018 World Cup had earlier promised a special experience for Nigerians who watch the games on any of its platforms, promising a never-like-before-experience.

    “We are happy to announce our first winner in the ongoing promotion, Mr. Tony Fakuade, a civil engineer who resides in Akure. He subscribed for 1 month on StarTimes Classic bouquet.   • ST Nollywood Plus now airs on StarTimes

    Following up on its promise to deliver the best possible access to great entertainment to its subscribers, digital Pay TV Company, StarTimes, has announced the listing of ST Nollywood Plus on its platform.

    According to its management, the new content offering is available on it Classic Bouquet and it is a movie focused and all round entertainment channel.

    “ST Nollywood Plus is proof of our efforts in deepening our footprint in local entertainment content and the need to show subscribers more recent Nollywood movies,” said StarTimes’ Brand and Marketing Director, Qasim Elegbede.

    In addition to the new content offering, StarTimes says it has in recent past upgraded its channel list, platform, allowing customers watch as much as 80 exciting channels cutting across movies, news, sports, series, kiddies, animal documentary, religious channels and lots more.

  • StarTimes support orphans, to support more orphanages

    StarTimes Nigeria has promised to increase its support for orphanages and other charity organizations across the country, in its bid to help children access the much-needed care they need while growing up without parental care.

    The company made this known through its Public Relations & Communications Manager, Kunmi Balogun, during a visit to SOS Children’s Villages in Lagos, to donate food items to the children.

    According to Balogun, ‘every quarter, we embark on a charity drive to support the good work being done by both local and international organizations in keeping kids safe and away from the streets.

    ‘The decision to visit SOS Children’s Villages was not tough to reach, given its reputation and record in providing shelter and care for children.’

    On his path, the Family Strengthening Programme Coordinator at SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria, Gabriel Adajie commended StarTimes for the gesture while receiving the donation. He said that SOS Children’s Villages currently depends on the government, corporate and individual support to carry out its task.

    Adajie noted that the donations and support from individuals, organizations and Government helps the organization meet its obligations in providing good family-like care for the children, many of whom he said have no traces to their biological parents.

  • New telenovela, Wildflower, debuts on StarTimes

    Wildflower, a new telenovela series, is set to hit the TV screens from Wednesday April 25, on StarTimes Novela E Plus, channel 128 and 057.

    According to Startimes’ Content Marketing Manager, Abosede Adewara; “The lead character, Lily is a wild flower in a field of roses. In a cruel twist of fate, Lily’s parents die at the ruthless hands of the Ardientes, a powerful political clan. Orphaned at a young age, she is left with no choice but to fend for herself.

    “While the Ardientes thought, she was long dead, she survives, and is taken under the wing of a fearless woman named Prianka, who molds her to be just the same. Lily takes on a new identity, assuming the name of Prianka’s daughter, Ivy.

    “Hungry for justice, Lily returns to her hometown and everything goes according to plan, until she crosses paths with her long-lost childhood friend, Diego Ardiente Torillo and then the twist begins.”

    Wildflower, a 2017 Philippine revenge drama television series which stars Maja Salvador and others, is scheduled to air Monday to Thursday from 5:50pm exclusively on StarTimes.

    StarTimes Nigeria has announced that current Bundesliga title holders, FC Bayern Munich is bringing the league trophy to Nigeria on March 8, in a move to thrill the growing number of Bundesliga and Bayern fans in Nigeria.

    The trophy would on March 8 arrive in Abuja, as part of activities to mark the climax of the ongoing FC Bayern Youth Cup competition. It will be made available for public viewing on March 10 at Aduvie International School, Jahi District in Abuja.

    The FC Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria tournament Director, Victor Obinna Edeh noted that “The dream of 10 players at the national finals are about to become a reality and having the Bundesliga trophy on ground will definitely inspire the boys to bring out their best. The VOE Foundation will continue working with these selected kids to secure sports scholarships after the world finals in Germany this May”
