    Peace, stability require inclusive governance-Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasised the peace and stability of Nigeria depend on inclusive governance and collective action, stating that national development cannot be achieved in isolation.

Speaking on Friday at the State House, Abuja, while receiving the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Abdulhakeem Owoade I, his wife, Abiwumi, and a delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State, the President underscored the importance of unity and shared responsibility in building a prosperous nation.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to prioritising education and healthcare, describing them as critical pillars for national upliftment.

Tinubu also stressed the need to preserve and promote cultural values, stating that the federal government remains open to meaningful participation from all sectors of society.

The President said his administration will continue working with traditional institutions to implement policies to protect and prosper citizens.

“The peace and stability of our nation requires inclusiveness. This job is not one you can do alone. We have to pull ourselves together to build a nation of prosperity.

“Our priority is still education and Medicare. We want to uplift education and cultural values. Our door is open for participation,” he stated.

The President said traditional institutions remain integral to the country’s development and called for more support in implementing policies that directly impact people’s livelihoods.

Tinubu congratulated the Alaafin for his ascendancy to the historic throne, assuring the royal father of his prayers and support.

“It is a great joy for me and a great honour. Your ascendancy to the throne of your fathers is historic. It is the will of God and the heart of the people.

“I am following up on your foresight for development, your humility, and the fact that you uphold the traditions of your people.

“The inherited tradition is the making of the Almighty God. Your ascendancy to the throne – like my becoming a president is the divine will of the Almighty God,” he said.

The President noted that the “hurdles, processes, and anxiety” along the way were part of the preparation for the position.

The President commended the traditional council for the ease in nominating and crowning the 46th Alaafin following Oba Lamidi Adeyemi’s passing on April 22, 2022.

Tinubu told the king that the sons of the Oyo kingdom serving in his office have done exceptionally well, including Ambassador Victor Adeleke, State Chief of Protocol, and Colonel Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, the Aide-de-Camp.

Yusuf is the king designate of Ilemonaland in Oyun local council, Kwara State, which traces its ancestry to the Oyo kingdom.

Alaafin assured the President of the traditional council’s support in delivering his mandate to the people.

“Today, I speak not just as the custodian of culture and tradition but as a voice for my people, who are deeply honoured by the audience you have granted us here at the heart of the national leadership.

“Your gracious reception is more than protocol. It is a mark of your character, statesmanship and enduring regard for the traditional institutions. The people of Oyo remember your journey as a man who rose through the crucible of political struggle with unmatched courage and charity. You won many hearts as an activist, strategist, bridge builder and now as the nation’s foremost leader. “

The monarch said Nigerians look up to the President for a new direction.

“Nigeria looks up to you, not only for leadership but for restoration. For a new vision rooted in justice, equity and inclusive progress. It is in that spirit that I have come to seek your collaboration. Oyo is ready, Yoruba are ready, and Nigerians are ready,” he added.

The king commended the President for bold economic reforms, infrastructural development, instituting social welfare, youth empowerment, and improvement in security and investments in agriculture.

“We understand that national transformation is not by government alone. It is built when ancient wisdom meets modern governance. When institutions, old and new, work hand-in-hand,” he said.

The visit marked the first official audience between President Tinubu and the newly installed Alaafin, who ascended the historic throne following the passing of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III in 2022.

Accompanied by senior chiefs and fellow traditional rulers, the Alaafin’s presence in Abuja was a significant cultural moment for the Yoruba people.

FCT residents hail Tinubu, Wike for reviving infrastructure development

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over the renewed wave of infrastructural development across Abuja and its satellite towns.

Chanting the slogan “Renewed Hope in Action,” the residents came out in large numbers to cheer the minister during his inspection of ongoing projects at the Gwagwalada Area Council Market, Etsu Road, and the A2 to Pai Road in Kwali Area Council.

Overflowing with excitement, the residents told Wike that the “Renewed Hope” agenda is no longer just a promise but a visible reality.

They commended President Tinubu for entrusting Wike with the task of overseeing the transformation of the capital and described the ongoing projects as a clear sign of purposeful leadership.

In response, Minister Wike reaffirmed that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is yielding tangible results, particularly in rural infrastructure. He noted that the enthusiasm of residents is the clearest evidence of government impact and vowed to continue delivering projects that improve lives across the territory.

According to him, “We’re happy when the people are happy. When people’s happiness is tied to the government’s performance, it energizes us, telling us that we’re doing the right thing. It’s not my statement, but that of a resident who said, ‘Indeed, the Renewed Hope Agenda is at work.’ That tells you something”.

The Minister, while inspecting the A2 to Pai Road, which has now been fitted with streetlights despite being in a rural setting, emphasized the significance of purposeful leadership.

“This is the result of the right leadership. Mr. President has shown leadership, and we’re only following his vision. There’s no magic to it. When the leader is focused and provides support, those working with him have no excuse not to deliver,” he said.

While at Aguma Palace, road construction, the Minister was greeted with cheers and overwhelming enthusiasm from residents, including traders and community leaders, who expressed appreciation for the improved infrastructure.

Wike further explained that, “What we saw in Aguma Palace was incredible,” Wike recalled. “The people were shouting, jubilating. That alone tells you that hope is working.”

Responding to concerns about the quality of projects being executed, especially in rural areas, Wike was emphatic, “How bad would it feel if you weren’t getting quality jobs? You’ve paid money and they’re delivering what you need, of course, you’ll be happy,” he said. “The contractors know there is no room for substandard work.”

Addressing questions on whether sectors such as education and health are receiving equal attention, Wike assured that no sector would be left behind.

“Just because we’re not taking you to the schools yet doesn’t mean nothing is happening. We’ve renovated over 60 schools, and they are truly innovative and polished,” he said. “We’ll invite you after the road commissioning to see for yourself”, he added.

He emphasised that road infrastructure is foundational, pointing out its central role in accessing education, healthcare, markets, and in tackling insecurity.

The Minister stressed that, “Development anywhere in the world starts with roads. If there are no roads, which school can you attend? Which hospital can you visit? Which farm produce can you transport? Roads unlock everything.

“Even criminals think twice when there’s a good road with streetlights. It’s about deterrence, too.”

Wike reiterated that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, no community, no sector, and no Nigerian will be left behind.

Tinubu appoints Holloway to lead National Theatre revival

After years of restoration and a N68 billion investment by the Bankers’ Committee, the National Theatre in Lagos, now renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, finally has a new manager.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Disun Holloway as Chairman of Theatre Partners, the body responsible for overseeing the operations and long-term management of the iconic facility.

Holloway, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism and Intergovernmental Affairs, will now steer efforts to activate the full potential of the refurbished landmark as a hub for artistic expression, cultural exchange, and creative enterprise.

Widely regarded as a staunch advocate for the arts, he has long been known for supporting initiatives that connect Nigeria’s cultural heritage with economic progress and innovation.

His appointment comes at a crucial juncture for the National Theatre, which has undergone a massive transformation following years of decline.

The restoration, led by the Bankers’ Committee and coordinated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), involved a N68 billion investment aimed at bringing the facility up to global standards and positioning it as a central pillar of Nigeria’s creative infrastructure.

Originally projected to take nine months, the renovation project extended to six years. This delay was attributed to a misjudgment of the extensive structural and operational repairs required, compounded by disruptions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite these setbacks, the National Theatre has emerged as a revitalised space equipped to host performances, exhibitions, festivals, and conferences, serving not only as a platform for artistic expression but also as a catalyst for job creation and tourism.

As the new Chairman of Theatre Partners, Holloway will oversee the post-renovation phase of the National Theatre’s development. His mandate includes establishing systems for the sustainable management of the facility, building collaborative networks with federal and state institutions, and engaging stakeholders across Nigeria’s dynamic creative industry.

The goal is to ensure that the Centre becomes an engine of economic development, cultural diplomacy, and youth empowerment.

Holloway’s leadership is expected to be instrumental in operationalising the vision behind the renaming of the venue after Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, a symbol of Nigeria’s enduring contributions to global arts and literature.

Under his stewardship, the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts is anticipated to evolve into a regional cultural landmark, supporting film, music, dance, theatre, design, and technology-driven creativity.

Tinubu will be re-elected in 2027, says Ekiti Rep

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ido/Osi/Moba/Ilejemeje federal constituency of Ekiti state, Kolawole Davidson Akinlayo, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be re-elected for a second term in 2027.

Akinlayo also said that he was confident that Ekiti state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, will be re-elected unopposed for a second term in 2026.

Speaking in an interview in his office, the lawmaker said those currently crying of marginalisation because of the appointments made by the President are those who have not benefited from such an appointment and felt marginalised.

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been very fair to parts of the country in terms of appointment and projects distribution irrespective of the number of votes he recorded he recorded in such places.

He said, “I think the President has been fair to all parts of the country irrespective of votes recorded in the various parts of the country, either from. The South or the North during the 2023 elections.

“If you look at the level of fairness he has demonstrated to all regions in terms of appointments, you will discover that the North still has the highest number of appointees. Those who are crying foul are doing so because they have been schemed out in the scheme of things.

“Be that as it may, I am of the strong view that the President will come back in 2027.”

On the rising cases of insecurity across the country, Akinlayo said the government should adopt technology to handle insecurity, while also adopting the carrot and stick approach.

“The method we are using has not worked very well. So, I will advise the government to invest more in technology. With technology, you can here and send drones to the Sambisa forest or anywhere, for that matter. It is very important. We cannot continue this way because a lot of lives are being lost daily, and a lot of families are being displaced. Technology is the best approach to this issue of insecurity”.

He opposed the proposal by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political parties to be allowed to nominate candidates to replace their members in the legislature who either died or resigned from the position.

He said such an action will bring rancour within the party as a few party leaders can come together to hand pick their choices candidate for the position without conferring with the people.

“A well-equipped military is essential not only for securing our nation but also for preserving our democracy. My administration will remain steadfast in modernising the Armed Forces and investing in cutting-edge defence technologies to confront both conventional and asymmetric threats.”

Tinubu noted that this induction ceremony of the helicopters was not merely about adding new helicopters to our fleet, but a “strategic statement of intent, a demonstration of our collective resolve to defend our nation and reinforce Nigeria’s leadership in Africa.”

Earlier, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, described the induction as a major milestone in the Service’s drive to modernise its fleet and enhance operational effectiveness across all theatres.

Tinubu’s reforms transforming energy sector, says Sahara Group

Group Managing Director of Sahara Group, Mr. Kola Adesina, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s sweeping energy reforms as a historic turning point in Nigeria’s energy sector, saying they have restored transparency, predictability, and investor confidence to the once-fractured industry.

In a feature interview for an upcoming State House documentary marking President Tinubu’s second year in office, Adesina praised the administration’s political will in removing fuel subsidies, implementing the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), and promoting gas-based industrialisation.

In a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Adesina said “the most significant shift I have seen—without a doubt—has been the government’s willingness to confront the long-term inefficiencies within the petroleum sector. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s courage in removing the fuel subsidy and market distortions hasn’t been rivalled in the history of Nigeria.”

He said the bold move toward a market-driven energy system has enabled better planning and a more sustainable environment for both businesses and consumers.

“The macro and micro elements are beginning to work together, and there’s strong potential for long-term benefits,” he noted.

Adesina, whose company plays a major role in Nigeria’s gas and power sectors, said reforms under President Tinubu have opened up the playing field to fair competition.

“For us, it’s about the free market, open market, and transparency. Nothing beats that. When there’s no clarity or consistency, investment becomes difficult. But now, we know how to price. It’s open to everyone—and reform is now guiding every process”, he said.

The Sahara Group boss commended the Tinubu administration’s accelerating pace on critical infrastructure projects, especially in the gas and power value chains, areas where his firm remains heavily invested.

“Lately, there’s been significant momentum. The bottlenecks we faced are giving way to commonsense decisions,” he said.

He described the ongoing implementation of the PIA as a “game-changer,” noting that consistency in regulatory frameworks has reduced policy uncertainty and allowed businesses to invest with confidence.

“Unlike before, when policy inconsistencies were the order of the day, now private sector players like us can commit resources knowing the rules won’t change midway,” he said.

In the power sector, Adesina welcomed recent moves by the federal government to settle outstanding legacy debts.

“We’ve seen movement on the payment of legacy debts, especially in the power sector. Once the government clears those debts, new investors will come in, and existing ones—like us—will deepen our investments. There’s life in the business again”, he said.

Adesina also applauded the Tinubu administration’s climate-conscious approach, particularly the shift toward compressed natural gas (CNG) and other cleaner energy sources.

“Gas-to-power is gaining ground. We love what’s happening. We’ve invested, and we’re ready to invest more. CNG is now the order of the day—the President has made that a focal point. The carbon credit scheme is also expanding”, he stated.

Reflecting on the reforms over the past two years, Adesina said the administration has laid a firm foundation for long-term prosperity.

“We’ve had a very complex situation, and while the road ahead won’t be easy in the short term, things will improve. The foundation has been laid. It’s being worked on and re-engineered to ensure that prosperity can truly be democratised and felt by the last man, at the last mile”, he said.

The interview is part of a wider State House media project documenting the milestones of the Tinubu administration as it marks two years in office.

  • President approves new procurement thresholds for MDAs

President approves new procurement thresholds for MDAs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a sweeping overhaul of public procurement thresholds for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.

With immediate effect, only contracts valued at N5 billion and above for Goods and Consultancy Services, and N10 billion and above for Works will require the approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

This policy shift is captured in an official document The Nation obtained yesterday in Abuja. It represents a major departure from the previous arrangement, which had much lower thresholds requiring FEC’s input.

The President’s directive followed the recommendations of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), which has been spearheading reforms within the nation’s procurement system.

The scope of the new thresholds applies to all arms of government — Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary — as well as to Defence and Intelligence Agencies. This is in line with the provisions of the Finance Act, 2020.

This decentralisation is designed to allow the FEC to focus on high-level national policy issues rather than routine contract approvals.

Also, a statement in Abuja by BPE’s Head of Public Relations, Zira Zakka Nagga, announced the implementation of the new thresholds on Wednesday night.

According to the statement, the President’s approval followed the recommendations by BPE’s Director-General, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun.

The revised thresholds are expected to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the award and execution of public contracts.

The BPP is expected to issue comprehensive implementation guidelines in the coming days, detailing how the new thresholds will affect procurement planning, approval processes, and contract execution across government agencies.
