Injured Moses may miss five matches

Just a week ago Super Eagles forward Victor Moses was all over the place.  He was some form of a workaholic in the tie against Chipolopolo of Zambia at the Nest of Champions in Uyo. He was not only a problem for the Zambian defence he came close to scoring a couple of times. It was Alex Iwobi that eventually broke the deadlock scoring the only goal that gave the Eagles the much needed ticket.

Moses back to base in England and ready for action had looked forward to another superlative performance this time against Premier league side Crystal Palace.

He did start the game but a 36th minute injury put paid to whatever game plan he had against Crystal Palace. An unexpected hamstring injury has taken the centre stage and is likely to sideline him for up to three weeks.  For Chelsea it was not just about injury to Moses the team equally lost the match.

The implication is that the Nigerian international will miss champions tie against Roma on Wednesday, and premier league ties against Watford, Everton and AFC Bournemouth but may hope to return for away champions league tie against Roma at the end of the month.

Teammate Gary Cahill however believes that the Blues should have done better despite early exit of the Nigerian international.

The Premier League champions fell behind to Cesar Azpilicueta’s 11th-minute own goal before equalising seven minutes later via Tiemoue Bakayoko’s header.

However, the Eagles struck back through Wilfried Zaha on the stroke of half time and went on to claim all three points, leaving the Blues captain feeling very bemused with the afternoon’s events.

“The performance level today was not up to the standard it should be. We played poorly today, for whatever reason,” Cahill told BBC Sport.

“We’ve had many international players who have been away but that’s part and parcel of modern football. We need to be ready, we needed to be livelier, and we were missing out on second balls. That’s unlike us.

“We’re not having the best of luck in terms of injuries – you saw Victor Moses today – and we’ve not got the biggest squad. But it needed to be a better performance today.

“We need to win games like this, and in terms of the title after Christmas we need to be there or thereabouts. We are disappointed by the result and disappointed in the quality of our performance.”

Up next for Chelsea is a Champions League home encounter with Roma on Wednesday night.

  • No Nigerian on 2017 Ballon D’or Shortlist

No Nigerian on 2017 Ballon D’or Shortlist

A 30-man list for the year’s Ballon D’or nomination has been fully announced. Names of the notable football players who have been outstanding in their club and national team made the star-studded list.
Two Africans are also on the list butnone is a Nigerian.  Senegalese striker Sadio Mane, who plays for Liverpool FC, and Borrusia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are the only Africans in the running.
Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi are some of the Nigerian internationals who have been outstanding in the year 2017 but they were not shortlisted as anticipated.
Cristiano Ronaldo is favourite to win the Ballon d’Or 2017 after the 30-man shortlist was released by France Football.

The prestigious award has been won by the Real Madrid superstar or Barcelona ace Lionel Messi for the past nine years.

Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Antoine Griezmann form the chasing pack, while Premier League representatives include Sadio Mane and Harry Kane.

The award winner will be named by France Football on 6th December, though there won’t be a traditional gala to celebrate the winner’s achievement.

Victor Moses, the Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a winger or wing-back on either flank for Premier League club Chelsea was one of the most outstanding players in 2017.

Another Nigerian outstanding footballer that missed the list is the Arsenal youngster, Alex Iwobi. Recall that the blues no 15 jersey man helped Chelsea to win the Premier League title last season and also to qualify for the final of the Emirates FA Cup.

The 26-year-old also played key roles in Nigeria qualifying for the 2018 World Cup and was named by the Confederation of African Football in the Best eleven of Match Day 3 and 4 of the CAF 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

English Premier League side, Arsenal FC, recently celebrated their youngster, Alex Iwobi, who scored Nigeria’s solitary match winner against Zambia in the group B World Cup Qualifier played in Uyo.

Recall that Alex Iwobi was a member of the Arsenal team that won the Emirates FA Cup last season. For the past nine years, the Ballon d’Or has been won by either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

Chelsea Heaps Praises on Moses for Nigeria’s W/Cup Qualification

Clesea Football Club reseved special praise for Victor Moses for creating most of the Super Eagles attacking moves in the World Cup Qualifier against Zambia on Saturday.
The English Premier League side reviewed Saturday’s World Cup qualifying matches which featured most of their players including that of the Nigeria versu Zambia game which Victor Moses played the full matcfh.
For the Nigeria game, the Premier League champions said Victor Moses created Nigeria’s best chance in the first half, was instrumental in most of the attacking moves and particularly the eventual one that produced the goal at the 75th minute.
”Moses was the creator of the best chance to break the deadlock in the first half, following a powerful drive forward with a chipped pass to set Odion Ighalo through on goal just before the break, but the former Watford striker hit his shot wide,
”Moses again played a big part, finding Abdullahi Shehu in space, with the midfielder cutting the ball back for substitute Alex Iwobi to finish the move, ” Chelsea wrote on their official website.
”The second period continued to the same frustrating pattern, but it was eventually Nigeria who found the breakthrough to kill of Zambia’s qualification hopes.
Recall that Moses was close to have his name on the score-sheet few minutes to the end of the match when he was teed up by Chelsea teammate Ola Aina who made a remakable debut pass, but couldn’t comvert chance, the EPL side also reckoned.
The Chelsea number 15 jersey is expected to resume training with Chelsea ahead of the Blues trip to Selhurst Park, where they face his old club Crystal Palace on October 14.
Meanwhile, in the post match interview the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr said he couldn’t expect anything less of the result of the Saturday match though acknowledging that it was a difficult one but said his players were remarkable for getting the much needed victory.
The German said: ”It was a very difficult game, in fact the most difficult for us in the qualifying series because of what was at stake, because we knew a win would take us there and we were eager to finish it off.
”I commend the Zambians for their spirit. They fought very hard. This team was different from the one we defeated in Ndola last year; this was a much better and stronger team.

”I am very happy for the players and for this great nation, for us to qualify with a match in hand. It is a good feeling and after this night, we will begin to plan about how to prepare for the World Cup.

”But we have the final match in Algeria next month, and perhaps we can have a friendly within that window as well and begin the preparation for Russia 2018.”

Nigeria travel to Algeria for their dead rubber tie against the North Africans on November 6, 2017.

Zambia are expected on Thursday from Ghana, where they set up a training camp. The Super Eagles won the first leg 2-1 in Zambia and will qualify for Russia 2018 World Cup finals with a win on Saturday in Uyo.

  • Moses plays for 90 mins in Chelsea goal feast

Moses plays for 90 mins in Chelsea goal feast

Super Eagles  forward Victor Moses, was in action for the entire duration of the match as Chelsea enjoyed a goal feast against Stoke away on Saturday.

Although the Nigerian international did not score he was very effective as teammate Alvaro Morata grabbed three of the goals in the 2nd, 77th and 82nd minutes of the match. Pedro was also on target in the 30th minute of the encounter. It was Morata’s first Chelsea hat-trick in a tie in which Stoke were the better side for much of the encounter, but ruthlessly punished for defensive lapses.

Antonio Conte left the likes of Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard on the bench, while Mark Hughes was forced into naming a makeshift defensive line due to Kurt Zouma, Ryan Shawcross, Kevin Wimmer and Geoff Cameron all being sidelined by a mixture of injury and ineligibility.

The stand-in backline was exposed as early as the second minute when Cesar Azpilicueta’s long ball forward released Morata clean through on goal, and the Spaniard tucked his finish into the bottom corner for his fourth Premier League goal of the season.

Peter Crouch could have seen red for a late challenge on Fabregas in the final minute of normal time, but referee Mike Dean opted for leniency on what was already a frustrating afternoon for the Potters.

The win extends Stoke’s wait for a victory to five matches across all competitions, whereas Chelsea are now unbeaten in seven games and have won their opening three away fixtures of a league season for the first time since 2009.

Chelsea face a difficult week ahead, though, with Atletico Madrid to come in the Champions League before taking on free-scoring Manchester City next weekend.

Nigeria’s goal keeper Ezenwa wisely held up the ball in his hands as he tries to run down the clock as the Super Eagles are just seconds away from leaving Yaounde with a draw,

    Five minutes have been added.

DANGER! Ikechukwu Ezenwa kicked on the chest by Fai Collins after trying to make a second save off Vincent Aboubakar’s missile. Medics attend to him and he is back on his feet. Ogenyi Onazi has been replaced by Etebo OghenekaroCameroon have made their third and final alteration, with Fabrice Olinga making way for Moumi Ngamaleu.

Nigeria’s midfield have collapsed since John Obi Mikel was replaced in this encounter by Mikel Agu who has failed to make his presence felt – leaving Onazi with a lot of work to do.
Cameroon push further for a second but first, they must cage Leon Balogun who has been rock-solid. Iheanacho finds his way in

Nigeria made a second subtitution as Kelechi Iheanacho was brought in the 79th minute for Odion Ighalo.

    Nigeria conceded a penalty kick.

Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa ruan out of his line to challenge Djoum Arnaud recklessly .

Penalty Goal was  through Vincent Aboubakar in the 75th Minute.

WHAT A MISS! Victor Moses just hit the woodwork in the 67th minute.

The Chelsea player makes a mincemeat of three defenders and fires to the top left corner of Fabrice Ondoa but it kisses the woodwork.

Cameroon should count themselves lucky that it didn’t sail in

meanwhile, Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has been substituted.

Ndubuisi Agu was brought in at the 64th minute to replace the mid-fielder.

Mikel has before the match declared he was not 100% fit

Meanwhile frustration as already sets in  for the Cameroonian as they have already been booked.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are still leading Cameroon 1-0.

Already Cameroon fans are trooping out of the Yaounde stadium.

They are apparently disappointed as Nigeria leads the african champion at home.

The Super eagles are however not lacking in support.

Nigeria has continued to dominate since Moses Simeon scored for the Eagles at the 3oth minutes.

The Belgian based forward profits from a horror clearance from the hosts off Ighalo’s efforts and wastes no time in screwing past goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa.

It was goaless 25 minutes in the Nigeria versus Cameroon match going on in Yaounde.

  • Moses scores as Arsenal secure comeback win to lift Community Shield

Moses scores as Arsenal secure comeback win to lift Community Shield

Super Eagles striker Victor Moses on Sunday scored a goal for Chelsea but unfortunately it was not enough as Arsenal secured a comeback win to lift the Community Shield at the Wembley Stadium.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Community Shield is the season’s traditional “curtain raiser’’ which pitted Premier League champions Chelsea against FA Cup winners Arsenal.

Arsenal has won the trophy three times in four years.

Moses had opened scoring for Chelsea early in the second half after a goalless first half which saw both sides unable to convert their goal scoring opportunities.

Arsenal were caught off-guard at the restart as Granit Xhaka ballooned a clearance from a corner high in the air.

But Gary Cahill flicked it back into the middle of the box as Moses timed his run to perfection, creeping through to drive in from close range and slotting the ball past Petr Cech in the 47th minute.

The goal was Moses’ first for Chelsea in 27 games. His last one came against Tottenham HotSpurs in November.

NAN reports that the Super Eagles’ midfielder, Alex Iwobi, also had a decent performance for Arsenal with some nifty footwork, going closest to scoring in the 49th minute after twirling his way through a couple of players before getting his shot off in the mark.

But the shot was weak and straight at goalkeeper.

He was, however, substituted in the 67th minute alongside Arsenal’s new signing Alexandre Lacazette who also came close to scoring with a shot that hit the post in the first half.

Oliver Giroud and Theo Walcott were introduced as their replacements as Arsenal desperately went in search for the equaliser.

With 10 minutes left to play and just as Chelsea looked poised to win, the game unfortunately took a twist of fate as Chelsea went down to 10 men.

Pedro Rodriguez went late and high with his studs up on Mohamed Elneny.

Referee Bobby Madley had a little think and then pulled out the red card as Antonio Conte expressed his displeasure at the referee’s decision.

It was indeed a crazy couple of minutes for Chelsea as straight from the free-kick conceded by Pedro, Arsenal equalised in the 82nd minute.

Granit Xhaka’s delivery was headed in powerfully by new boy Sead Kolasinac.

There were just 82 seconds between Pedro’s red card and Kolasinac’s goal.

Kolasinac became the first player to open his goal account for Arsenal in the Community Shield since Gilberto Silva in 2002.

It was certainly dramatic and cranked up the atmosphere in the closing stages.

The game, however, ended in a 1-1 draw and went straight into the lottery of penalty shootouts.

With the game going straight into penalties, the Gunners showed their superiority; scoring all their four kicks, while the Blues could only put in one.

Thibaut Courtois and new club-record signing, Alvaro Morata lost their kicks.

Sunday’s win extends Arsenal’s unbeaten record to 9 at Wembley

It was indeed a turnaround as Arsenal secured their first trophy of the season, beating Chelsea 4-1 on penalties.

  • Victor Moses wants Onyekuru to join West Ham

Victor Moses wants Onyekuru to join West Ham

CHELSEA star Victor Moses has advised Henry Onyekuru to ignore Arsenal’s interest and secure a move to London rivals West Ham, according to reports.

The 19-year-old KAS Eupen striker has been linked with the Gunners for a number of weeks and recent reports suggest the north London outfit have agreed a deal ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

Onyekuru scored 24 goals in 41 appearances this season and finished as the joint top scorer in the Belgian top flight and is also a reported target of West Ham’s.

Moses, who emerged as a key component of Antonio Conte’s title-winning Chelsea side last season, spent the season on loan at West Ham in 2015/16 and the Daily Mail claim he is encouraging his compatriot to to move to east rather than north London.

Onyekuru, who recently made his senior international debut, has also revealed he has sought advice from Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi before he makes a decision on his future.

‘He [Iwobi] is a nice fellow, who is open to all despite his star status in the team,’ Onyekuru told Own Goal.

‘We talked a bit about Arsenal and their manager Arsene Wenger and he has nothing but praise for his manager and teammates.

‘Iwobi said they are like a family in the dressing room, and even the senior players treat the upcoming players like their equals.’
