Wike moves to end FCT Teachers’ strike, approves revenue deduction to meet demands

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has intervened in the ongoing teachers’ strike by meeting with key stakeholders, including the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and chairmen of the six FCT area councils.

The meeting, which took place at the minister’s official residence in Abuja, was aimed at resolving the strike that began on March 24, 2025.

The teachers are demanding the full implementation of a tripartite agreement signed on December 11, 2024, which includes a ₦70,000 minimum wage, 25%–35% salary arrears, a 40% peculiar allowance, a ₦35,000 Federal Government wage award, and several years of promotion arrears.

Following a closed-door session, Abaji Area Council Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, who spoke on behalf of the council chairmen, revealed that Wike had approved the deduction of 10% from the councils’ internally generated revenue (IGR) for the next six months to meet the teachers’ demands.

While describing the decision as “painful,” Abdullahi noted that the chairmen had accepted it in good faith to ensure the strike is brought to an end and normal academic activities resume across FCT schools.

“We just finished a meeting with the minister, the leadership of the NUT, and the Area Council Chairmen. Resolutions were passed, although they did not favour the Chairman, as our six months’ IGR has been entirely committed to settling this issue.

“Our plea to the NUT is to consider our children and call off the strike. The minister clearly stated that, legally, he has no right to withhold 10% of the Area Councils’ IGR to pay NUT debts. But by God’s grace, the Chairman agreed, in the interest of peace and education, to release that amount.

“We hope that before the close of work today, the union will call off the strike, and by tomorrow, our children will return to school,” he said.

Also speaking, NANS President, Olushola Ladoja, said the teachers had requested 70% payment of the owed salaries and arrears, which all parties agreed to.

He added that a committee had been set up to address remaining issues and report back within two weeks.

“During the meeting, the NUT proposed receiving 70% of the owed sum. Based on calculations of the IGR, it was confirmed that this amount could be covered. The hon. the minister has directed that the council chairmen’s IGR be used for this purpose and pleaded with the teachers to call off the strike.

“He also constituted a committee, which includes NANS, to look into other unresolved demands within two weeks,” Ladoja said.

He commended the minister’s intervention, despite the legal constraints surrounding the use of council funds.

On his part, the FCT NUT Chairman, Abdullahi Shafas, said the union would convene a State Wing Executive Council meeting to take a final decision based on the discussions.

ADC, a desperate coalition of failed politicians – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a blistering attack on members of the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), dismissing the group as lacking credibility or the capacity to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during a media chat with journalists on Thursday, Wike described the coalition as a “desperate fallback” for political figures who failed to gain control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“There is no coalition,” he declared. “The opposition has decimated itself. The only party that can, if properly organised, challenge this government is the PDP.”

He accused former Senate President David Mark of trying to hijack the PDP leadership before defecting to become interim chairman of the ADC-led coalition.

“David Mark wanted to be chairman of the PDP, and we said no,” Wike said. “When they demanded that the chairmanship return to the North Central, we resisted. Now he has gone to lead a coalition. Let’s see who Nigerians will believe.”

Wike also criticised Ovation publisher Dele Momodu, calling him politically irrelevant.

“Dele Momodu was never my friend. He claimed he ran for president—he didn’t get a single vote, and now he’s in this coalition.”

Known for his blunt rhetoric, Wike accused many coalition members of chronic political opportunism, singling out former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for repeatedly switching parties to pursue power.

“Atiku was in the PDP, left for the AC, returned to the PDP, then joined the APC, came back to the PDP, and now he’s with the ADC,” Wike said. “Every time, he jumps ship. They’re just looking for where they can be in charge.”

He questioned their credibility, arguing that their criticisms of the government were simply bitterness over personal losses.

“They keep saying Nigerians are angry. Say the truth: you were defeated here. Don’t project your frustration onto the public.”

Wike challenged coalition figures to measure their records against his achievements in public office.

“If I leave as minister today, I can confidently say, ‘This is what I accomplished.’ Let any of them show what they’ve done.”

He also suggested that former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s involvement in the coalition was driven by disappointment over being sidelined.

“If El-Rufai. If the president hadn’t dumped him, would he be part of any coalition?”

As the 2027 elections draw nearer, Wike insisted that despite internal challenges, the PDP remains the only organised opposition party capable of defeating the APC, provided it stays united.

“Politics is about interests,” he concluded. “Those people tried everything to seize the PDP’s leadership, and we stood firm and said no.”

Tinubu’s Conference Centre generated N650m in three weeks – Wike

…I don’t owe anyone an explanation on the truce with Fubara

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday dismissed criticisms of the N39 billion spent on renovating the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Wike, who spoke during a live media chat in Abuja, disclosed that within three weeks of unveiling, the centre has generated N650 million for the administration, as opposed to the N50 million that the administration used to receive annually from the facility before the massive rehabilitation.

He also responded to allegations that he allocated about 41 plots of land to his two sons, describing the allegations as sponsored by a failed politician from Adamawa State.

Wike, who refused to mention the alleged sponsor, said such information does not contribute to national development.

He also declared that peace has returned to his home state, Rivers, saying he does not owe anyone an explanation on the terms of the truce.

According to him, several people had turned the crisis in Rivers State into an “oil well”, from which they were drawing illicit funds for their selfish interests, saying such fifth columnists are no longer happy that he has reconciled with the suspended Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.

  • Wike, Keyamo, Bwala knock coalition, ADC

Wike, Keyamo, Bwala knock coalition, ADC

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike described the defectors to ADC  as expired politicians.

The minister said “those politicians have refused to see anything good in the current administration.”

He spoke during the inauguration of a project executed by the TInubu Administration in Abuja yesterday.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo (SAN) last night said the new political coalition that joined the ADC poses no threat to the ruling APC.

In a post on X, he stated: “The emergence of ADC as presently constituted marks the formal dismemberment of the PDP, hitherto Nigeria’s strongest opposition party.

“Majority of the old guard in the PDP (who have apparently lost control of the Party) have been pushed out of the party by the Younger Turks within the PDP.

“That is why the gathering today was a conglomerate of ‘former this’ and ‘former that’ of the PDP. No matter how you look at it, this is just Atiku’s faction of PDP in desperate search for the 2027 Presidential ticket – nothing more, nothing less.

“The other addition to the so-called ‘coalition’ is a sprinkling of APC members who actually worked against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last election and one or two APC leaders who lost their constituencies to opposition parties in 2023.

READ ALSO; ROLL CALL: Atiku, El-Rufai, Malami, Tambuwal, others attend ADC coalition unveiling

“Their movement therefore takes NOTHING away from the APC. It is actually better for the APC because it is just a case of totally extracting the germ that was eating the cola nut from within.

“The person who the old, cunning guards want to take for a ride in all of this is Peter Obi. They want his votes but don’t want to give him their Presidential ticket, because this is Atiku’s show simpliciter. That is why David Mark is the interim Chairman. Those who know politics know what I am saying.

“But if you do not give Peter Obi the Presidential ticket, you lose his supporters. It is as simple as that. And how can you make someone who won two regions in the last election (Southeast and Southsouth) a running mate to the person who won only one region (Northeast)?

“Therefore, when the dust settles, you will discover that PDP and the Labour Party have lost something, the ADC has only gained something like a caricature, but the APC has lost ABSOLUTELY nothing.

“What this all means is that since the 2023 elections, the APC has become stronger, whilst the opposition parties have been fragmented and have become weaker.

“Those who have defected to the APC since 2023 (the Governors, Senators, Honourable members, etc) put side-by-side with a small handful who have left the APC, who would you rather have in your ranks? That is where lies the key to the whole analysis.

“For now, let us face governance and allow them to exercise their constitutional right to associate and assemble.

Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, also dismissed the group as a futile enterprise driven by disgruntled politicians.

He took to his X handle to describe the political realignment as “a dead on arrival party,” populated by what he called an “association of wild goose chasers.”

“Association of wild goose chasers, consisting of internally displaced politicians forming a dead on arrival party; better described in the words of @PeterObi as ‘structure of criminality,’” Bwala wrote in the post.

Otti dissociates himself from anti-Tinubu alliance

Abia State Governor  Alex Otti says he has no plan to join any coalition to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Otti also denounced rumours that he intends to dump the  Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

I’m still a member of the Labour Party and I’m not looking for where to defect  to. I am happy where I am,’’  he told members of the state global economic council in Umuahia yesterday.

On the coalition movement, the governor said:  A lot of people have been asking me: ‘Are you a member of the coalition?’

‘’My response is, have you seen my name? Have you seen me attending the coalition meetings?

“We are just busy doing the work that Abia people have given us. So, we are not attending any coalition meeting, I have not attended any one, and nobody has invited me.

“We had issues, if you don’t have issues, you are dead…  When we had our problems, we fought in the Supreme Court and retrieved our party at the Supreme Court. I believe that a few issues that remain would be resolved very soon because the Supreme Court judgment was very, very clear.”

    Adeleke, Osun PDP reject coalition

Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi said Governor Ademola Adeleke would not join the coalition.

Speaking in Osogbo, the state capital, Bisi said: “We(Adeleke and his supporters) remain with PDP. We are in PDP, we are not going anywhere. I can assure you, we are not going anywhere.

“We are in democracy. Before APC came to power in 2016, they also formed a coalition. There’s nothing wrong with those people coming together to form a coalition.”

Reacting to Atiku’s remark that PDP is too weak to win any election, the Osun PDP chairman said: “I wouldn’t know, let us wait and see. I wouldn’t agree with him. This will not be the first time Atiku will leave PDP and PDP won in his absence.”

Wike to meet NUT, NANS, FCT council chairmen over strike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday hold a crucial meeting with chairman of FCT area councils, leaders of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to finalise plans for the reopening of all public primary schools in the territory.

This was disclosed in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday by NANS national president, Olushola Oladoja, and the association’s national public relations officer, Adeyemi Ajasa.

NANS explained that it had initially resolved to stage a mass protest at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Secretariat on Wednesday morning over the ongoing closure of public schools.

However, the protest was put on hold following an invitation to a high-level engagement at the Department of State Services (DSS) Headquarters, where the matter was thoroughly discussed in the interest of national security and students’ welfare.

The association said the DSS meeting was followed by another round of talks with the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on FCT, Muktar Betara, which shed light on the root causes of the strike action by the NUT and the interventions made so far by the Wike-led administration.

According to the statement, a third meeting with Minister Wike took place on Tuesday, during which he explained the issues surrounding the ongoing impasse.

NANS expressed hope that Thursday’s meeting would produce a definitive resolution to reopen public primary schools across the FCT.

“That the FCT remains the only unit of the federation operating full local government autonomy; hence, all salary payments, including that of primary school teachers, are the sole responsibility of the area councils.

“The FCT Administration is not directly responsible for the backlog of teachers’ salaries and therefore should not be held solely accountable for the inadequacies of the area councils.

“In a show of responsibility and commitment to resolving the crisis, Wike intervened by proposing a bailout, with FCTA offering to pay 60 per cent of the outstanding arrears while the area councils cover the remaining 40 per cent.

“When it became clear that this arrangement was not yielding desired results, the FCT minister withheld the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the area councils for the months of May and June, with a plan to utilize these funds to make up the 40 per cent requested of area council to clear the outstanding arrears owed to teachers.

“Based on this intervention, it was expected that the two-month arrears withheld be ready before the end of the week,” it said.

The association said that based on the productive engagements and emerging progress, it hereby suspends the planned protest while keeping close tabs on the implementation of all resolutions reached.

“We reaffirm our commitment to defending the rights of Nigerian students and ensuring that no child is denied access to education due to governmental lapses,” he said.

Wike meets area council chairmen, NUT, NANs over teachers’ strike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, will meet with chairmen of FCT area councils, leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and National Association of Nigeria Students (NANs) on Thursday.

The meeting, according to a statement by NANs in Abuja on Wednesday, is to finalise modalities for the reopening of all public primary schools in the FCT.

The statement was signed by NANs National President, Olushola Oladoja and the association’s National Public Relations Officer, Adeyemi Ajasa.

The association explained that it had earlier resolved to stage a mass protest Wednesday morning at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Secretariat.

It added that its leadership was invited to a high-level engagement at the Department of State Services (DSS) Headquarters, where the issues at hand were thoroughly discussed in the interest of national security and students’ welfare.

It said that the first meeting at the DSS paved the way for a second strategic meeting with the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on FCT, Muktar Betara.

NANs said that the engagement revealed the root causes of the ongoing industrial action by the NUT and the efforts made thus far by the Wike-led FCTA.

It added that a third meeting was held with Wike on Tuesday, where the minister explained the issues at hand.

“That the FCT remains the only unit of the federation operating full local government autonomy, hence all salary payments, including that of primary school teachers, are the sole responsibility of the area councils.

“The FCT Administration is not directly responsible for the backlog of teachers’ salaries and therefore should not be held solely accountable for the inadequacies of the area councils.

Alleged land allocation to Wike’s children in FCT sponsored blackmail – Aide

Lere Olayinka, senior special assistant on public communications and social media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that any land has been allocated to the Minister’s children.

In a statement on Tuesday, Olayinka described the allegations as “sponsored blackmail” aimed at discrediting the Minister, insisting the efforts had failed.

“As usual, this sponsored blackmail has failed,” he stated.

He challenged those behind the allegations to put in more effort, stressing that nothing would deter the Minister from advancing his developmental initiatives in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Olayinka referenced recent claims that Wike allocated 2,082 hectares of land in Asokoro and Maitama to one of his sons, calling it unfounded propaganda. “No such land is even available in the two districts combined,” he said.

According to him, the alleged evidence was a misrepresented document showing land allocation for farming to JOAQ Farms in the Bwari Area Council. He added that fresh claims of another allocation to a different son were also false, noting the cited documents involved a company named Jordan Farms.

“Even though, like other Nigerians, it is the rights of children of the Minister, his friends, associates and relatives to own lands anywhere in the country, including the FCT, provided all necessary conditions are met, as at today, no land has been allocated to any of the Minister’s children.

“No doubt, land was duly allocated to Jordan Farms and Estates Limited, a company duly registered in Nigeria, with none of the children of the FCT Minister as directors of the company.

“That one of the sons of the FCT Minister is Jordan, and there is a company, Jordan Farms and Estates Limited, which is no reason anyone should conclude that the company belongs to Wike’s son.

“Records of ownership of the company are available at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and we challenge purveyors of these stories to publish the names of the company owners.

“For instance, my name is Lere Olayinka, and there is Lere Local Government in Kaduna State. Do I own the Local Government? Am I even from Kaduna State? There are companies like Jordan Telecommunications, Jordan Foods, etc. Are they also owned by Wike’s son?

“In the United Kingdom, there is Jordan’s Farms. Is the company also owned by Wike’s son?

“On the document showing the name and signature of one of the Minister’s security aides, the question to be asked is simple: Who owns the company, Hyper Communications Limited? If I choose to assist my friend, associate or relative to collect property documents, does that confer ownership of the property on me?

“Therefore, let that fellow from Adamawa State, who is struggling to get at the FCT Minister for supporting power rotation between the Northern and Southern parts of Nigeria, put in more effort. This is because, just like the one of last week, this one too has failed even before its commencement.”

  • Land administration: CSO lauds Wike’s performance, clears Minister of any wrongdoing

Land administration: CSO lauds Wike’s performance, clears Minister of any wrongdoing

The Centre for Democratic Integrity and Leadership (CDIL) has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike’s performance, clearing him of any wrongdoing in the administration of land in Abuja.

The CSO’s statement comes in response to a recent media campaign alleging that Wike corruptly allocated thousands of hectares of land to his son, Joaquin Wike.

According to CDIL, the allegations are “politically charged” and “highly irresponsible,” lacking in both context and credibility.

Speaking at a briefing on Tuesday, Kelvin Kuhwa notes that Wike has shown “extraordinary leadership and administrative rigor” since assuming office, transforming the FCT’s infrastructure and land administration.

He highlighted Wike’s achievements, including the renovation of the International Conference Centre, delivery of intra-city rail and bus terminals, and the resurfacing of internal roads.

The group also emphasised that land administration has been brought under fresh scrutiny, with dormant allocations and illegal land grabs being revoked and reallocated to those who would utilise the land productively.

Regarding the allegations against Wike, CDIL added that there is no prohibition against allocating land to a legitimate company based on who its directors may be, and that the proper processes were followed in the allocation of land to Joaq Farms and Estates Ltd, a company associated with Wike’s son.

The CSO believes that the smear campaign against Wike is driven by entrenched interests who have lost access to the FCT’s former regime of favouritism and are fighting back against the minister’s reforms.

Kuhwa said the Minister’s outstanding performance is already being perceived as a threat to persons who are President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The statement added: “Since his assumption of office, Mr. Wike has shown extraordinary leadership and administrative rigor. From neglected roads and infrastructure decay to bureaucratic indifference and fiscal leakage, the FCT was a textbook example of government dysfunction. But under Wike’s stewardship, the nation’s capital has witnessed a rapid, visible and measurable reversal of these trends.

“He has revived the long-abandoned renovation of the International Conference Centre, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Conference Centre, and turned it into a world-class diplomatic hub. For years, the ICC stood in embarrassing decline, yet within months, it was not only fully rehabilitated but re-equipped to host high-level international summits with renewed prestige. This alone is a legacy-defining achievement.

“In transportation, Wike has successfully delivered intra-city rail and bus terminals, a bold step in solving urban congestion, reducing informal motor park chaos, and enhancing public safety for commuters. Today, thousands of residents benefit from orderly, efficient transport hubs previously unthinkable in the FCT.

“Additionally, dozens of internal roads have been resurfaced, expanded, or completed, particularly in fast-growing but underserved areas like Lokogoma, Galadimawa, Jahi, and Karmo. These are communities that were excluded from the federal development map until Wike insisted on inclusive urban renewal. The roads in Guzape and Asokoro Extension, once impassable, now attract investors and residents due to deliberate planning and engineering discipline introduced under his watch.

It is within this same reformist framework that land administration has been brought under fresh scrutiny. Prior to Mr. Wike’s appointment, dormant allocations and illegal land grabs were rampant across Abuja. In line with his vow to sanitise the system, the Minister began revoking undeveloped allocations and reallocating them—legally—to those who would utilise the land productively.

“That some allocations were made to corporate entities — such as Joaq Farms and Estates Ltd — is neither criminal nor irregular. Joaq Farms is a registered business. Under existing legislation, there is no prohibition against allocating land to a legitimate company based on who its directors may be — so long as the proper processes are followed, which, by all available evidence, they were.”

CDIL urged Nigerians to reject toxic reporting and stands firmly with Wike, citing his record of rebuilding the capital and enforcing development standards.

  • Wike as an asset

    Wike as an asset

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, lawyer and member, Body of Benchers to boot, has shown himself a man beloved by the god of politics. That may explain his triumphs in many fronts. But while appreciating his bright stars, perhaps the Wike personality may be a very vital factor in his successes. The man chooses his fights, and when he takes a position, he sticks with it, through thick and thin.

From available records, he supported the emergence of Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, as the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2007, in Rivers State, against the wishes of federal forces and stood by his conviction, even when Amaechi allegedly ran away to Ghana, for safety. The legend had it that Wike sold his father’s property to fight the legal battle for Amaechi. From the recent interview Amaechi granted a national television, it can be deduced that Amaechi did not fully appreciate the sacrifices Wike made.

When Amaechi fell out with President Goodluck Jonathan, Wike choose to be on the side of Jonathan, and with the bravura of Mama Peace, Dame Patience Jonathan, the first lady, Wike became the governorship candidate of the PDP, when his former principal, Amaechi, moved over to the All Progressive Congress (APC), to help President Muhammadu Buhari get elected in 2015. That decision paid off, as Wike got elected as governor, despite the opposition of the departing governor, and since then, he has been on the ascendency.

As governor, Wike endeared himself to Nigerians and even to President Buhari of the opposition party, with his flamboyant celebration of his numerous projects. Again, after completing his tenure and failing at the presidency project, he chose to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of the APC, while rejecting overtures from Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, the man who defeated him at the primary and refused to pick him as vice presidential candidate.

Wike rallied the governors of Benue, Enugu, Abia and Oyo states, to trenchantly oppose the presidential candidate of his party, and played roulette with the candidate of the LP, while extracting promissory notes from the APC, under the nose of his estranged former boss, Amaechi, an APC stalwart. In a manner akin to eating your cake and still having it, Wike delivered his preferred gubernatorial candidate, Similayi Fubara, and the candidates of the national and house of assembly, to PDP, while handing over the presidential poll to the APC, to the consternation of both his APC and PDP opponents.

In the ensuing fight in the National Working Committee, of the PDP, Wike and his friends aligned with Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s secretary, against the more powerful forces in the party. Anyanwu had gone to contest for the governorship of Imo State, and after losing to Hope Uzodinma, of the APC, returned to the party to reclaim his position as secretary. Despite the misgivings of other party stalwarts who want Anyanwu out, Wike chose to back Anyanwu to retain his seat, on the premise that the PDP constitution and 1999 constitution allows party officials to contest elections without resigning.

The efforts by those opposed to Anyanwu to get the courts to determine his tenure failed at the Supreme Court which held that the courts lack the jurisdiction to interfere in the internal affairs of a party.

Instead of putting their house in order, the PDP crisis is increasingly becoming intractable, with the PDP governors divided as to the way forward. The Board of Trustees, instead of bringing neutrality to the dispute, chose to take a stand that has further polarized the party. The party’s National Working Committee, already divided down the line, seems determined to fight to finish. When some party members insisted that the National Executive meeting must hold, despite the issues raised by INEC, one wonders whether the entire party leadership is under a form of spell.

While everyone in PDP seems to be losing their heads, Wike is insistent that Samuel Anyanwu, remains the party’s secretary, and he appears to be winning over some of his former foes like the governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed. Over the weekend, Wike toasted Anyanwu, at his 60th birthday celebration, at the recently refurbished International Conference Centre, renamed after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Wike advised Anyanwu to remain steadfast to his conviction and not be afraid. He told him to remain calm as those he defeated will come to seek his face, and not for him to go in search of them.

That fearless capacity to confront political opponents may be one of the factors that endears Wike to President Tinubu, himself a fearless political warrior. When President Tinubu describes Wike as an asset, he may not just be referring to his stellar performances at the minister for federal Capital Territory, but his inner core, as a person. As Chief Obafemi Awolowo, is reputed to have said, only the deep can connect to the deep. Wike, showed himself an intractable political warrior, in his battle with his now reconciled political godson, the governor of Rivers State.

Wike, who fought many political battles to make Fubara governor, fought even greater battles, to reclaim him, from his opponents, who wanted to reap where they did not sow, as he put it. Instead of running scared or capitulating, Wike stayed his cause with his supporters, until the battle was won. This writer had advised Fubara months before the hammer of emergency rule fell on his executive duties to obey the rules of the game he freely and willingly entered.

Wike’s greatest fan, who has referred to him as an asset, remains President Tinubu, a veteran of political roforofo. Through uncommon capacity to deliver on his mandate as a minister, Wike has gained the confidence of the president and even majority of Nigerians living in Abuja. For more than two weeks, the president has had the honour of commissioning landmark projects that will endear him and his party to the masses, as he celebrates his second year anniversary as president and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

No person in the shoes of President Tinubu, would not be happy with the achievements of Minister Wike. From roads, to water works, to fly overs, to bus stations, it has been celebration time for the president. The projects are so many that one wonders how Wike, was able to execute such projects in less than two years of his appointment as minister. Such capacity to deliver on an assignment, is truly an asset, as President Tinubu has reiterated many times.

What remains to be seen is whether Tinubu, would be able to lure that asset to his party, as he has wished.

Wike has made Renewed Hope Agenda meaningful to rural communities – Tinubu

…commissions access roads in Giri district, Abuja

President Bola Tinubu on Monday praised Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, adding that he has made the Renewed Hope Agenda meaningful to rural dwellers.

Tinubu who said this at the official commissioning of newly constructed access roads in Giri district, Abuja, emphasised that history will never forget Wike’s performance.

He noted that no community is too small to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Tinubu, who was represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, said, “You have not only embraced the visions of my Administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, you have localised it, made it meaningful, and made it real. Your actions have brought quality and excellence to the dual states of communities long lain in the shadows. These newly constructed access roads are not just infrastructural achievements, as statements of intent, the intention to open up Giri District and the FCT.

“Continue to shine your light, Nigeria sees it, and history will record it. This Administration, no community is too small, area too distant, citizen too insignificant, to benefit from the dividends of democracy. Honourable Minister, on behalf of myself, my Administration, and the good people of the FCT, I say thank you to you. Thank you for reminding us that good governance is not about fanfare, but about footsteps.

“This road opens easy travel on these new roads. To the contractors, the engineers, the labourers, the community leaders who supported this process, you have all played a part in building not just roads, but trust between the government and its people. Thank you very much.

“And to the residents of Giri, I say may these roads lead you to greater opportunities. May they carry your children to school, farmers to markets, families to healthcare, and dreams to reality. As your President, I’m proud of what we celebrate here today, and even more committed to seeing more of such milestones replicated across the nation.

“So today I stand before you, not only to commission a road, but also to express a deep and heartfelt appreciation to the FCT Minister, Barrister Enzenwo Nyesome Wike, a man whose quiet diligence and visionary leadership have continued to transform the landscape of the federal capital territory. Honourable Minister, the roads we commission here today in the Giri District are more than accessible. They are bridges of inclusion, signals of recognition, instruments of national unity. They remind us that development must reach the outskirts just as it touches the surface.

“Honourable Minister, your words speak for themselves in every corner of the FCT. From the vast-spaced districts of Maitama, Jahi, Katampe, Uye, Mabushi, and the likes, to the towns of Gwagwalada, Kwali, Bwari and Abaji, and growing districts such as Kabusa, Keti and now Giri, your leadership has brought progress closer to the people. Thank you very much”.
