Foundation hails Wike over fresh push to tackle waste crisis

A non governmental organisation, Crux Environmental Right, Advocacy and Development Foundation, (CERADF) has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what it described as decisive steps to curb environmental degradation and poor waste management in Abuja.

The foundation gave the commendation following the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) move to provide dedicated telephone lines for residents to report cases of uncleared refuse across the territory.

In a statement on Monday jointly signed by its, Country Director, Mercy Julius Iviakpellas and Director of Communications, Eswati Luka Ikpi, Crux said the initiative demonstrated the Wike-led administration’s commitment to environmental sanitation, accountability and citizen participation in governance.

“The decision to open direct communication channels for residents to report waste management failures is a practical and people-centred approach to tackling the refuse menace in the FCT,” the group said, urging residents to take advantage of the platform to keep their environment clean.

The FCTA had earlier announced four telephone numbers for reporting waste issues as part of efforts to compel waste management contractors to carry out their duties effectively.

In a brief statement, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, urged residents to send pictures and videos of uncleared refuse via WhatsApp, clearly stating the location to enable authorities identify defaulting contractors.

According to Olayinka, the initiative is aimed at addressing the growing waste problem in the nation’s capital and strengthening oversight of contractors responsible for refuse evacuation.

Crux Environmental Right, Advocacy and Development Foundation called on the FCTA to sustain the momentum and ensure strict sanctions for contractors who fail to meet agreed standards, noting that a cleaner Abuja is critical to public health and the image of the capital city.

2027: Rivers APC in Ahoada West pledges loyalty to Wike

    …minister visits Ahoada LGA

Following ongoing political developments in Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress in Ahoada West Local Government Area has pledged to take directives only from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, regarding the 2027 elections.

The pledge came on Sunday during Wike’s ongoing “thank-you visit” to local government areas across the state. APC Chairman in Ahoada West, Rejoice Otobo, said the minister has shown deep commitment to the people of Rivers State, and the party would follow his guidance in all political matters.

Otobo described the state’s political situation as unfortunate, noting that Rivers State needs leaders who listen to their people. He added that influential stakeholders in the LGA stand firmly with Wike.

He stated, “We await instructions from you on the 2027 elections concerning Rivers State. Wherever you ask us to go, there we shall go; whatever you ask us to do is what we will do. All the good and the bad people of the LGA have decided that where you want us to go is where we will go.”

Similarly, Peoples Democratic Party leaders in the area, including Ikechukwu Obuzor, expressed loyalty to Wike. “We are standing firm with you. Wherever you go, we will go. Be assured, come 2027, Ahoada West will deliver the needed results for you,” he said.

Earlier, Ahoada Local Government Council Chairman, Chita Eugene, described Wike as “the political field marshal of the South-South” and praised his record in attracting unprecedented development to Rivers State. House of Representatives member for Ahoada West/Ogba-Egbema/Ndoni Federal Constituency, Victor Obuzor, also reaffirmed support, citing Wike’s transformative impact on the LGA and the state during his tenure as governor.

The Seyi Tinubu Support Group, led by Chidi Amadi, further pledged backing for Wike and the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Addressing the gathering, Wike insisted that Rivers State Governor Similalayi Fubara should be voted out in 2027, arguing that he lacks the capacity to lead. He thanked the people for their support in the 2023 elections and stressed the need to restore Rivers State’s prominence in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The minister said, “Already, Rivers State is being respected because of what we are doing in FCT. We need a leader we can trust to drive our dear state to glory and progress,” the minister said.

Wike said, “This is the only state that we have mobilized other political parties. Here, we are not talking about parties; we are talking about one family, the people.

“What we have here is a broad-based, inclusive tradition, a kind of political rainbow. Very few states can achieve that level of unity. My hope is that one day, we will collectively make a decision and focus our strength on one political platform ahead of 2027.

“As for those on the other side, we are not interested in conflict. Leadership requires that all of us go back, coordinate, and ensure everyone works together. I have no complaints about that.

“I can clearly see organic unity. Let me be honest with you: we have made mistakes in the past during political negotiations. I will not lie to you about that. But we will not repeat those mistakes again.

“We had a first agreement, and someone emerged. We had a second agreement, and again someone emerged. Look at the challenges that followed. We will not make that mistake again. That is my personal position. Please, do not quote me out of context.

“When I was Governor, I made it clear: we cannot go backwards. We cannot retreat. Politics requires firmness and clarity.

The competition has collapsed because the people have spoken.

“Despite attempts to undermine us, we remain standing. No one has been cheated. No one has been sidelined. Rivers State has been shown love, and that love is being reciprocated.

“Who would have believed that a peaceful Rivers man would become Minister of the Federal Capital Territory? Yet, by the grace of God, we are delivering results. What you see today in the FCT reflects the contribution and character of Rivers people.

“Anywhere you go in Nigeria, when people talk about our work, they ask questions. Your response should be simple: support what is working. Where governance is effective, encourage it.

“This is the time to act. This is the time for everyone to come together and do what is right. No one should assume automatic entitlement. Leadership must be earned through trust and unity.”

Wike to Ateke Tom: Stay out of Rivers politics

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, advised the traditional ruler and the first Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom to stay out of Rivers politics.

Wike gave the advice when he visited the king’s palace as part of his ‘thank you visit’ to the Okrika Local Government Area.

The minister who has been moving around the LGAs informed the monarch that political activities would soon commence in the state, adding that he wants the traditional ruler to keep his kingdom peaceful.

Wike said decisions had already been taken on what to do concerning the burning issues in the state.

He emphasised that he visited the traditional ruler due to his personal relationship with the monarch as a friend.

I’ll not allow myself to be buried politically – Minister

While also addressing the people of Okrika, Wike disturbed with the current political situation in the state, vowed to resist any attempt to be buried politically, adding that: “Because, if you make another mistake, then go and bury yourself politically, I will not allow myself to be buried. I will not allow mistakes again. So, everybody should know. We have made a decision”.

Wike said, “Why we came is to thank our people who have supported us all this time. The people of Okrika, the people of the Ijaw nation, have supported us very well, and so I felt that it would be good to thank them for their support. We don’t take their support for granted; we are very grateful people.

“We will soon start politics. I didn’t say you should be involved; don’t be involved. Allow us to play our politics, and stay as traditional ruler. I don’t want anybody to say tomorrow you are putting your hand, don’t put your hands.

“But that does not mean that you don’t have anybody you support in your heart, but allow us to play our game. If there’s any problem, you call us, we will settle, but I want to tell you that it will not be business as usual again.

“All of us have made a decision on what to do. I believe those of them who are your children will tell you the decision we have taken, just for your ears, not for you to participate. You are my friend. Thank you for maintaining peace in your kingdom. When I was governor, Okrika was one of the local government communities. We hardly hear of any crisis, so it is because of your style of governance, and I want to assure you to continue to maintain that style so that your place will be at peace.

“Any traditional ruler who cannot keep his place united is not worthy to be a traditional ruler.”

Wike, who had earlier addressed the Okrika people, thanked the people for their support and for standing firm with Tinubu.

He described Tinubu as a man who keeps his promise, and urged the people of Okrika to continue to support people with good and trusted character.

Wike said, “I thank you for returning the chairman of the council. God used Mr President to make sure that local government elections took place. Without Mr President, it would have been difficult. The illegalities that were perpetrated have been corrected. I thank God you have taken back our council.

“So many people say, oh, it’s not good with the Ijaw people. I am good with the Ijaw people. I am good with the Okrika people. But if there is one person who does not want development, I would not be good with that person. So if I have a personal problem with you, come and face me. Don’t say it is the Okrika people. Don’t say it is the Ijaw people. Face me.

“If you don’t have the strength to face us, go and sleep. Don’t bring everybody. Those who said we didn’t do anything here, they will never see good in their life. I have come here several times to flag off and commission projects. Particularly in Okochiri, so people should tell the truth. I awarded the contract to reclaim land for your people. It was given to your son. What is the result today?

“We saw Mr President as somebody who keeps to his agreement. Look at what Mr President is doing today. The enviable work he has done here. The number of appointments. The number of appointments given to the people of Ijaw land, the number of appointments given to the people of Rivers State, is unprecedented in the history of Rivers State. They say the lion does not die. But this one lion has died.”

“And that is why you must vote for people who have character. You must vote for people so that you can go home and sleep with your two eyes closed. We have made a mistake in the state. We won’t kill ourselves. But we will correct the mistake this time.

“Some people are calling you people foolish people. Are you people foolish? Are you stupid? We are not. So, I want to assure you here. That we are working together. There’s nothing like a party here.

“It is the Renewed Hope family. Renewed Hope, what? Family. If you are not a member of this family, we will face you in the field. We will face you in the battle. So, let nobody bother himself. We will do what you know how to do. They have not seen anything yet.

Ijaw People’s Congress backs Wike for 2027

The Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress also used the event to denounce support for Governor Similalaye Fubara.

     They pledged allegiance to Wike.

Chairman of the congress, Senator George Sekibo, who announced the group’s decision, described the latest conflict between Fubara and Wike as ‘unfortunate’.

He, however, noted that the Ijaw people are grateful.

Sekibo recalled how the minister supported the emergence of Fubara, an Ijaw son, as governor of Rivers State and was widely supported by the people across the state.

He said, “Please don’t look at him and think we are all ungrateful people. Ijaw people are very grateful people.

“That is why we abandoned him (Fubara) and said we will follow you. You have done so much for the Ijaw people in Rivers. Whatever you say we should do, is what we will do.”

Sekibo assured Wike of the support of the Ijaw people and pledged complete loyalty to President Bola Tinubu.

He said, “We are grateful people, and that is why we are following you. We will not leave you because you have been there for us.”

Chairman of Okrika Local Government Council, Akuro Tobin, earlier described Wike as his political godfather.

Tobin said the minister equally supported many sons and daughters of the area to occupy various political offices, both elective and appointed.

He assured the minister that the men, women and youths of the LGA are solidly behind him and Tinubu.

Speaking on behalf of Okrika women, Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State Assembly, representing Okrika Constituency, Mrs Linda Stewart, also said Wike’s support for women was unprecedented, and prayed for him to succeed in all his endeavours.

Wike, while addressing the Okrika people, applauded them for their support and for standing firm with Tinubu.

He described Tinubu as a man who keeps fulfilling ‘agreement’, and urged the people of Okrika to continue to support people with good and trusted character.

The Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress on Saturday publicly withdrew its support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara and declared allegiance to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The decision was announced by the chairman of the congress, Senator George Sekibo, during Wike’s “thank you” visit to Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Sekibo described the ongoing rift between Fubara and Wike as unfortunate but stressed that the Ijaw people remain appreciative of political support and goodwill.

He recalled Wike’s role in facilitating Fubara’s emergence as governor, noting that the then-candidate enjoyed widespread backing across the state, including from the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

“Ijaw people are very grateful people. Please do not look at him and think we are all ungrateful,” Sekibo said. “That is why we have abandoned him and decided to follow you. You have done so much for the Ijaw people in Rivers State. Whatever you say we should do is what we will do.”

He assured Wike of the full support of the Ijaw people and pledged their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the minister as a dependable ally who has consistently stood by the ethnic group.

“We will not leave you because you have been there for us,” he added.

Rivers: No second chance for Fubara – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has insisted that there would be no second chance for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of failing to provide effective leadership.

Wike said any leader who is unable to maintain a working relationship with local government chairmen, members of the state House of Assembly, and other critical stakeholders lacks the capacity to govern effectively.

He made the remarks on Friday during a “thank you visit” to the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Addressing supporters he described as the “Renewed Hope Family,” Wike said Rivers State could not afford to be led by a governor who fails to honour agreements reached during a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The former Rivers State governor also recalled that he began the series of “thank you visits” to local government areas across the state last week.

He said, “We must make decisions. I heard somebody saying that those who worked for Atiku are back.  They couldn’t give Atiku 10 percent. So what is the political advantage? I will not call their names because you all know them.

“We will do all we can to see that we give President Bola Tinubu all the total support that he requires.

“Money cannot solve this problem the governor has started. Tell the Rivers people what was discussed with the President. If you succeed with the first one that was resolved, you will not succeed with the second one.

“There cannot be two captains in one ship. So whoever is assuring you that when you shout on your mandate that all is well, then you are wrong.

“Someone who cannot relate with the Local Government Chairmen, state assembly members, National Assembly members, and other stakeholders cannot provide good leadership.”

  • Wike, Bala in war of words

Wike, Bala in war of words

A political battle broke out yesterday between Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Both men traded blistering accusations that underscore the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The confrontation was triggered by Mohammed’s claim that Wike was deliberately working to destabilise Bauchi State and destroy his political career through intimidation and smear campaigns.

Speaking on Channels Sunrise Daily, the Bauchi governor alleged that the FCT minister had “put fire” in his state by fuelling political attacks and linking him to banditry and terrorism.

“I am a sitting governor, and my state is among the most secure in the North-East, if not northern Nigeria. Yet, I am being associated with banditry for political reasons,” Mohammed said, dismissing the allegations as calculated falsehoods meant to discredit him as a rising opposition figure.

The governor insisted that Bauchi has remained relatively peaceful under his leadership and described the accusations as part of a broader plot to silence dissenting voices within the opposition.

He said: “Somebody said he is going to put fire in my state. That person is the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike. A rising opposition leader being accused of terrorism is very painful.

“When you want to destroy a dog, you give it a bad name.”

The governor claimed that unnamed “powerful forces” were behind the campaign against him, naming Wike as a central figure.

He further alleged that pressure was being mounted on him to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). But he did not states where the pressure was coming from.

Mohammed said he had written to the Attorney General of the Federation and copied security agencies, seeking protection and redress.

He also threatened to escalate the matter to the international community, describing the situation as victimisation and a violation of his fundamental human rights.

He accused Wike of acting as a destabilising force within the PDP, saying the FCT minister could not genuinely claim opposition credentials while openly aligning with the APC-led Federal Government.

“He is an undertaker in our party. You cannot be in two places at the same time. It is against the rule of nature,” Mohammed said.

He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be wary of individuals he claimed were undermining democracy by misusing state institutions.

The allegations come against the backdrop of renewed tension between the Bauchi State Government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mohammed accused the Federal Government of using the anti-graft agency to harass his administration following charges filed against the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, and others over alleged terrorism financing involving $9.7 million.

He insisted that the allegations were politically motivated.

Wike swiftly dismissed Mohammed’s accusations, describing them as baseless and symptomatic of internal failures within Bauchi and the PDP.

Speaking during a visit to Abua-Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State, Wike chided the Bauchi governor, saying he lacked the political structure and party cohesion to manage his affairs or produce a successor.

“Bala Mohammed came to my state and wanted to impose party leadership. I warned him to be careful and to leave my state alone. I told him there would be consequences, and today, he does not even have a party to produce his successor,” Wike said.

Reacting directly to the allegation that he threatened to “put fire” in Bauchi, Wike denied any such role and dared Mohammed to confront his challenges head-on.

“He said all the problems he is facing are because of me, that I claimed I would put fire there. If you have such power, go ahead and use it. Face your problems,” he said.

Wike also brushed aside claims that the EFCC was acting on his behalf, insisting he had no interest in Bauchi’s finances.

He said: “Now EFCC is chasing them, he said it’s me. What’s my business? If your state is clean, go there and enjoy yourself.”

The FCT minister accused Mohammed of weak leadership and internal contradictions, arguing that political leaders must recognise their limits.

“If you know you do not have the strength to fight, why don’t you retreat? Why create problems you cannot manage?” he asked.

Wike further launched a personal counteroffensive, questioning Mohammed’s own record as a FCT minister between 2010 and 2015.

“You were the minister of FCT. Why not tell the people what you did there? The whole land, you sold it. You did not do the roads. Contracts were awarded, money collected upfront, and now I am the one completing the projects,” he said.

Responding to personal insults labelling him “semi-illiterate” and a former motor washer, Wike said his rise through the ranks of public office spoke louder than name-calling.

“I have no problem with that. Someone who washed cars became local government chairman, governor of one of the most important states, and a two-time minister,” he said.

He reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu, citing what he described as unprecedented federal appointments and benefits for Rivers State, and insisted that his political choices were guided by conscience and performance.

Wike declared: “When you tell people the truth, people get angry. But the truth remains the truth.”

…blames Bauchi governor’s woes on weak leadership

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday fired back at Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, over what he described as false allegations made against him.

Governor Mohammed had earlier, during a national television interview, accused Wike of plotting to damage his integrity, alleging that the FCT minister had threatened to “put fire” in Bauchi State.

Reacting during a visit to Abua-Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he met with supporters and political stakeholders, Wike dismissed the claim and openly mocked the Bauchi governor, saying he lacked the political structure and party cohesion required to produce a successor.

According to Wike, the situation confronting Mohammed is a product of weak leadership and internal party contradictions.

“Bala Mohammed came to my state and wanted to impose party leadership. I warned him to be careful and to leave my state alone. I told him there would be consequences, and today he does not even have a party to produce his successor,” Wike said.

Responding directly to the allegation that he was responsible for crises in Bauchi State, Wike described the accusation as baseless.

“He said all the problems he is facing are because of me, that I claimed I would put fire there. If you have such power, go ahead and use it. Face your problems,” he added.

Wike maintained that political leaders must understand their limitations and avoid unnecessary confrontations, stressing that leadership failures should not be blamed on external forces.

“If you know you do not have the strength to fight, why don’t you retreat? Why create problems you cannot manage?” he asked.

He said; “That was why I warned them. If you don’t have the strength to fight, why not go and rest? Now EFCC is chasing them, he said it’s me. What’s my business? If your state is clean, go there and enjoy yourself.

“So this is just to tell Nigerians, tell them to leave me alone; go and face your problems. I’m only fighting with you as party leadership. I’m not interested in what you spend.

“You said I’m spending bad. You were minister of FCT from 2010 to 2015. Why not tell the people what you did in FCT? The whole land, you sold it. You did not do the roads, you awarded contracts, they collected money upfront, and now I’m the one completing the projects.

“Nigerians are singing our names everyday that we have done well. And we will continue to do well. Anybody that has stroke, it’s Wike. Anybody that has headache, Wike. Those who are in Sokoto, Wike, they are in Taraba, Wike. They are in Lagos, Wike, they are in Bauchi, Wike. So it means this Wike is too strong”.

The Minister also reacted to criticisms and personal attacks against him, including remarks describing him as “semi-illiterate” and a former motor washer, saying such insults do not diminish his political achievements.

“I have no problem with that. At least I am semi-literate and not completely illiterate. Someone who washed cars became chairman of a local government, governor of one of the most important states in Nigeria, and a two-time minister,” he said.

Wike challenged his critics, particularly former lawmakers, to give account of their stewardship while in office.

“If you were a senator for eight years, tell your people what you did. That is not abuse; that is accountability,” he said.

He defended his continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying Rivers State has benefitted significantly under the current administration.

“The appointments Rivers State has received under President Tinubu have never happened in the history of this state. That is why I can boldly tell Rivers people to support him,” Wike declared.

Wike maintained that political decisions must be guided by conscience and results rather than convenience.

“Yes, we need money, but we cannot sell our conscience. We will always do the right thing,” he said.

He further criticised politicians who align with every government that comes into power without principles, describing them as poor role models.

“You cannot be in every government and never see anything wrong. That is not leadership,” he added.

Wike reaffirmed his confidence in his political choices and record in public office, insisting that Nigerians are increasingly judging leaders based on performance.

“When you tell people the truth, people get angry. But the truth remains the truth.”

Tinubu kept to agreement made to Rivers state – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Wednesday commended President Bola Tinubu for keeping to promises he made to the people of Rivers State while campaigning before the 2023 presidential election.

Wike compared Tinubu to Rivers State Governor, Similalaye Fubara whom he said has not kept to agreement made to his people.

Wike said this during a “Thank You Visit’” to Emele Local Government Area of Rivers.

He said Tinubu has put smiles on the faces of the people of Rivers, adding that they will always support him to achieve re-election.

The minister disclosed that part of the decision was to support Tinubu’s reelection for a second term and correct the leadership mistake in Rivers.

He stressed that no amount of money would change their course saying, “When they lose power they will know what they have done.

“Ask your governor what he told President Bola Tinubu during the meeting. If he did not say anything, I will.

“President Bola Tinubu has kept to agreement while governor did not keep to agreement.

“We have done it before and we are going to do it again. We are prepared; we have made a decision and we are not going back. I want you to be strong. Nobody will intimidate us”.

He explained that the people that were entrusted with power in Rivers have been misled by money and power, adding that greed and lack of gratitude lead to downfall.

He said he was in the community to thank Eleme people for standing firm with Tinubu; “and I want to say that I have not taken your support for granted.

“In spite of all the troubles, Tinubu decided that I, a South South person, should be the Minister of FCT. It has never happened before.

“Also, the ongoing development in this area has never happened before until Tinubu became President”.

Earlier, Chief Aforji Igwe, representing Eleme in Rivers Assembly, described Wike as a “fair, just and a man of integrity.”

Igwe pledged the support of Eleme people to the minister due to his outstanding support to the people.

Also, Chairman of Eleme Council, Chief Obarilormate Ollor, commended Wike for all the infrastructural intervention in the area during his time as governor of Rivers.

Ollor assured Wike that the people were with him and ready to go wherever he asked them to go.

He said the people were already aware of his directive for the reelection of Tinubu but awaiting the directive for the governorship election in 2027.

The minister, who is on the thank-you-tour of local governments in the state, hinted that efforts would be made to correct the leadership mistake of 2023 in the next elections.

Wike, who spoke at a reception in his honour at Khana in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, assured that the mistake of the past will not be repeated.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was a guest at the Eneka Day Celebration in Port Harcourt, the state capital, acknowledged that the state was at  crossroads, urging the stakehokders to rise above the forces of division.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (SouthSouth), Chief Victor Giadom, who reflected on the protracted Rivers crisis, advised the governor to close ranks with his predecessor becsuse he would need his help in 2027.

Although Fubara has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, it has not halted the animosity and mutual suspicion between him and the minister.

In his speech during and after the defection , the governor avoided making references to Wike in all the public events.

Also, the minister, who is on tour of the councils, has not visited the governor or attended any of the state functions.

Reacting to the defection, Wike fired salvos at Fubara, disputing his claim to the leadership of the state chapter of the APC.

He also said the fact that he had joined party supporters in singing ‘On your plaform we stand,’ the famed caucus anthem of Tinubu supporters, does not make him  a core loyalist of the president.

Addressing a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, Wike said leaders are elected to represent the will of the people and not for personal agenda.

Urging the people of Rivers to support President Tinubu in 2027, he  however, insisted the strategies for leadershio recruitment in the state woukd be reviewed.

He said: “We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027, but we will talk about it later when the time comes.

“Just follow your leaders. Anywhere you see them going, that is where we are going”.

‘Fubara needs Wike to secure second term’

Giadom, who spoke in Gbokana, advised Fubara to settle his rift with Wije in the interest if his second term.

He said the governor will need the minister during the governorship nominations.

Describing Wike as a “dependable leader” in Rivers politics, Giadom assured the minister that there would be no political force in Gokana other than Wike.

He said: “I guarantee, on behalf of my brothers, that the Gokana people are for Wike and Tinubu and nobody will challenge Wike’s influence in Gokana.

“Gokana is a ‘no go area’ for anybody. Even Governor Fubara, for him to win anything in Gokana, he must pass through Wike.”

Senator Magnus Abe, who represented Rivers South East in the Senate, said the people of Gokana have already chosen Wike and President Tinubu as their friends.

He said: “Wike is a leader that unites and that is why we are united. If you follow Wike, you will not go home empty handed.

He commended the people for the display of unity of purpose for President Tinubu,  saying, “When you are united, good things will come”.

He urged the people to be patient and listen to their leaders for direction on where to go when the time comes.

The minister noted that APC and PDP in Rivers are working under the umbrella of  President Tinubu ‘s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Wike said: “That is why you see PDP and APC members here”.

Rivers still at crossroads, says Fubara

Fubara called for unity in Rivers, saying thst the state is at crossroads.

The governor said everyone must stick together amid efforts to divide them.

Fubara said: “For me today is very important because at the crossroad of our state, what is most important is unity that will attract progress. Attending this event and seeing your theme: ‘Unifying our strength for progress,’ truly reflects that Eneka people are part of my government because they understand the importance of unity. That you can only progress when there is unity.

“I urge everyone to continue to be together. When you are together, you cannot be broken. There will be some attempts to disorganise you and dismember you, but ensure that you stand as one.”

He added: “Standing as one is when the government can listen to you because your voice will be very strong. Standing as one is when the government can see that coming here to support you will not cause any pain, and standing as one will further make government to listen to you whenever you call”.

“But like he said here, when an Eneka man is with you, he follows you to the end. I want to believe that you all followed me because he was following me. For that reason, I accept, first, the chieftancy title conferred on me whole heartedly”.
