APC national vice chair to Fubara: You must go through Wike to win in Rivers

The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), South South, Hon. Victor Giadom, on Tuesday, advised Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers to go through the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to win anything in the state.

Giadom said this during Wike’s ‘thank you’ visit to the people of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers.

Describing Wike as a “dependable leader” in Rivers politics, Giadom assured the minister that there would be no political force in Gokana other than Wike.

“I guarantee, on behalf of my brothers, that the Gokana people are for Wike and Tinubu, and nobody will challenge Wike’s influence in Gokana.

“Gokana is a ‘no-go area’ for anybody, even the Gov. Fubara. For him to win anything in Gokana, he must pass through Wike,” he said.

Also, Sen. Magnus Abe, a former Senator who represented Rivers South East at the Senate, said that the people of Gokana have already chosen their friends – Wike and Tinubu.

“Wike is a leader that unites, and that is why we are united. If you follow Wike, you will not go home empty-handed.

“The Ogoni people are with you, and we will not go home empty-handed. Please tell Tinubu not to bother coming to Gokana to campaign. We are for him,” he said.

On his part, the Deputy Speaker, Rivers Assembly, Dumle Maol, assured Wike that the people of Gokana would be with him every step of the way.

“Anywhere you go, we will go,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of Gokana Local Council, Mr Confidence Deko, pledged total support to the minister, saying, “Wherever you go, we will go.”

“This local government is for you because of what you have done for us. Please tell Tinubu that the people of Bokana are appreciative of him.

“The time for payback is near, and we will do the needful,” he said.

Responding, Wike explained that the visit was to say thank you to the Gokana people for their good deeds and support over the years.

He commended the people for the display of unity of purpose for Tinubu, saying, “When you are united, good things will come.”

He asked the people to be patient and listen to their leaders for direction on where to go when the time comes.

The minister promised to continue to work with the people, adding that APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers were working under the umbrella of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Wike said, “That is why you see PDP and APC members here.”

Rivers: We‘ll correct leadership mistake in 2027 – Wike

Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says the ‘leadership mistake’ in Rivers will be corrected in 2027.

Wike stated this during a ‘thank you’ visit to the people of Khana in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers.

According to him, leaders are elected to represent the will of the people, and not for personal agenda.

“We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027, but we will talk about it later when the time comes.

“Just follow your leaders. Anywhere you see them going, that is where we are going,” he said.

He stated that he was not in the community for politics but to thank the people for standing with him and President Bola Tinubu.

Wike noted that the people of Khana took a risk and supported Tinubu in 2023 when others were afraid to do so.

“During the turbulent period, Khana stood with us and now you have benefitted, from good roads to university of environment, among others, because of the love of Mr President.

“So many appointments have come to Ogoniland and more are still coming,” he said.

The minister pointed out that the Rivers people would no longer vote based on party, but based on ‘family’ for the development of the state under Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.

Earlier, Rep. Dumnamene Dekor (APC – Khana) commended Wike and Tinubu for making Ogoniland the pride of the nation.

Dekor thanked the former governor for visiting communities in Rivers, stressing that people were ready to do what he asked and go where he wanted them to go.

“We are proud to be associated with you, and whatever you asked us to do, we shall do and wherever you asked us to go, we shall go,” he said.

He assured Wike that the lawmakers from Rivers had surrendered their mandate to Tinubu.

Also, Mrs Barile Nwakoh (APC Khana I State Constituency), who spoke on behalf of women in the area, thanked Wike for remembering the people of Khana.

Nwakoh said that the minister was receiving enormous support in Rivers because of his goodwill, sincerity and love for the people.

She said that the women of Khana were ready to vote for Tinubu if he decided to contest for second tenure.

*We are ready to work for Tinubu. Please tell Mr President that we are here for him and ready to work for his re-election,” she said.

Similarly, Chairman of Khana Local Council, Dr Thomas Bariere, commended Wike for being there for the people of the area, adding that when the right people occupied offices, good things happen.

“Since our support for President Tinubu, things have become better for the people of Khana.

“You have supported everything good for the people of Khana and we are very grateful for this,” Bariere said.

He assured Wike of the continued support of the people of the council area.

    • …says Tinubu has performed well

The paramount ruler of Emohua Kingdom in Rivers, Eze Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a dependable ally and a leader to be followed.

Awuse, who is also the chairman of the South South Monarchs Forum, stated this during Wike’s Special Christmas visit to Rumuche Emohua in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers.

“I want to put it on record. You’re a man to be followed; you’re a dependable ally; a friend to the Omuoha people, and our leader.

“Your Excellency, Emohua owes you everything, and we are not going to wait for you to tell us what to do when the time comes.

“We have decided that wherever you put your leg, Emohua local government will follow you,” he said.

Awuse also said President Bola Tinubu has done well and deserves the support of Rivers people.

According to him, Tinubu has improved the nation’s economy, stabilised the Naira, and increased foreign reserves.

He said, “Before I became a traditional ruler, I was an accountant first, and then I became a politician.

“From my accounting and finance understanding, Tinubu has done very well.

“The indices are so clear. The value of the Naira has gone up. He has done well.

“The external reserve of the nation has also increased to more than 47 billion dollars.”

The traditional leader added that through Tinubu, Wike has transformed Abuja.

He advised Wike not to be distracted by the gimmicks of the enemy, saying, “In life, if you expect not to have enemies, then you’re a master of nobody.

“Only a man who is doing well is spoken about.”

He commended the minister for the annual visit at the end of every year to acknowledge the support of the people.

He also thanked Wike for always coming to the rescue of people in the local government.

“If I don’t thank you publicly, where will I say it?” he asked.

2027: Wike fires warning shot at ‘opportunistic’ politicians in Rivers

    • … says power is not for free

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Monday cautioned Rivers State politicians, declaring that last-minute loyalty switches and trendy political slogans will not secure power or party tickets in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.

Wike while addressing party supporters the former Rivers State governor stressed that true political power is built on credibility, consistency, and grassroots trust not opportunism or convenience.

According to the Minister; “Power is not given freely. Politics is not a gift. Mandates are earned, defended, and protected. Nobody dashes power”.

Wike clarified that his tour was purely to express gratitude to supporters, not a campaign kickoff.

“I did not come here to play politics. I came here for one clear reason: to say thank you,” he said.

He added that closing the year without personally appreciating the people would have been ungrateful.

Reflecting on the 2023 elections, Wike defended his principled stance, saying it was rooted in equity, fairness, and justice.

He reminded the crowd that while President Bola Tinubu won the presidency with strong Rivers support, the PDP dominated state-level races, proving his camp’s mobilization strength.

As active politics starts in January, Wike urged supporters to stay vigilant and wait for further directive from them.

“From January, politics begins. Be prepared. This is not a threat; it is a strategic reality.”

Reaffirming his unwavering alignment with President Tinubu, he said whatever the President says, know that is exactly where I stand. There is alignment. There is no ambiguity”, he stated.

Wike also emphasised the need to uphold integrity, warned against breaking agreements or abandoning principles for money.

“Hard times expose character. You know who stands firm and who only shows up when food is ready” he explained.

He reiterated his personal responsibility in political choices while thanking Omuma residents for their continued loyalty.

The Minister further stressed that, “If you choose one direction or another, that is your decision. But understand this clearly, power is not for dash.”

  • Wike: We handed Oyo PDP structure to Makinde in 2019

Wike: We handed Oyo PDP structure to Makinde in 2019

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, became governor in 2019 after he and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party handed over the party structure in the state to him.

Wike made the claim on Monday during an end-of-the-year media chat in Port Harcourt, which was monitored by our correspondent, saying Makinde should be grateful for the support he received.

The minister was reacting to remarks credited to Makinde during a media interaction in Ibadan last week, where the governor claimed he made one million dollars in profit in 1997 after securing a Mobile contract of the same value, at a time when Wike had just obtained his law degree.

Makinde had said the contract, awarded to his company, Makon, earned him significant profit within a year, adding that he was 29 at the time, while Wike was allegedly just leaving law school and later became a local government chairman.

Responding, Wike said that despite Makinde’s claims of early financial success, his political ambitions failed repeatedly until he joined the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections.

According to him, Makinde’s attempts to become a senator under the then All Nigeria Peoples Party in 2007 and governor under the Social Democratic Party in 2014 were unsuccessful.

Wike added that despite boasting of his wealth, Makinde still sought his support and that of other PDP leaders to secure victory in 2019, stressing that while Makinde chose to pursue a career as a contractor, he chose the path of political power.

Wike said, “Before 1990, I had my first degree. Law was my second degree. At that time, in 1999, I was the chairman of one of the most important local governments in this country. I have never been a contractor. He chose to be a contractor, I chose to have power, and I had the power.

“First of all, in 2007, Seyi ran under ANPP as senator; he lost. In 2013/2014, Mulikat Adeola, former leader of the House of Reps, one Senator Hosea, whom we call ‘hallelujah’, all brought Seyi to me, to give him the structure of PDP in Oyo State; the man who had $1 million.

“But he came to the man who had no $1 million to help him get structure; we said no, we will not give you. We gave it to Teslim Folarin. He went to the SDP to run as governor, but he failed. Now, it was before 2019 when he came back; we said, now, we are ready to give you the structure. I was already grounded in politics, but I had no $1 million with me. It was when we gave him that structure that Seyi became governor in 2019.”

Wike and Makinde were members of the defunct G5 – a group of PDP governors who renounced support for the party following zoning controversies ahead of the presidential elections in 2023, and were close allies, until recent tensions, resulting from struggles for the control of the PDP, brought about a crisis.

Tinubu must complete eight years as president, says Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has restated his support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 for another four-year term.

The minister hinged his support on commitment to an agreement that the Southern presidency should be for eight years before power would return to the North.

Wike said: “The South must complete their eight years, and completing the eight years it doesn’t matter which party we belong to give Mr. President the support to succeed.

“In 2031, after the South must have completed its eight years through President Tinubu, we will know what next.”

He berated those who sat on the offence in 2023 who now parade themselves as disciples of the president, saying people cannot be deceived by their latter-day support for Tinubu.

Wike urged those he referred to as emergency singers of “on your mandate, we shall stand” to honour agreements, declaring that, “no one can fool us with any emergency support for President Bola Tinubu.

“For us here, agreement is agreement. You can be signing on your mandate we shall stand, in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is good because we have been supporting the President since 2023, your new sloganeering won’t help you.”

Wike spoke yesterday during his visits to Emohua and Ikwerre local government areas of Rivers State.

The minister reminded his supporters in Ikwerre how they took the risk to support the President when others were reluctant, stating that he and his supporters started singing the ‘on your mandate we shall stand’ slogan when it was difficult.

Wike said: “In 2023 when it was difficult, when people never knew that Mr. President will emerge as President, all of us from Ikwerre stock knew politics is about risk, we know that, if you look at the votes that made him to win in Rivers, the votes were particularly from Ikwerre.

“When it mattered most, we stood on his mandate, not this people now coming to shout on your mandate, when it was important they couldn’t shout on your mandate.

“You take stands when things are tough, not when food is ready. We took this position when things were tough, and we are still standing by it.”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Sunday cautioned those he described as “emergency singers” of the slogan “On your mandate, we shall stand” to honour existing agreements, declaring that no one can deceive them with sudden displays of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Wike stressed that agreements must be respected, noting that late political sloganeering would not erase past realities. “For us here, agreement is agreement. You can be singing ‘on your mandate we shall stand’ in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is fine, but we have been supporting the President since 2023. Your new slogans will not help you,” he said.

The minister made the remarks during his Christmas visits to Emohua and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

Addressing the Ikwerre people, Wike recalled how they took political risks to support President Tinubu at a time when many others were hesitant.

He noted that they embraced the slogan when the outcome of the 2023 presidential election was still uncertain.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Chief Nyesom Wike, has described himself as the most abused politician in the country today after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Minister also declared yesterday that from January 2026, politics will start in Rivers State.

Wike spoke during a special thanksgiving service organised by the Chairman, South-South Development Commission (SSDC) and former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Prince Chibudom Nwuche at his Ochiba country home in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State at the weekend.

The former Rivers State governor who declared his unwavering stance supporting President Tinubu insisted that he never reneged on any agreement he entered into.

Wike used the opportunity of the thanksgiving to commend the people of Ahoada East and Ahoada West councils for backing him to support the President.

He said:  “This is the first local government we are coming to say thank you for being there for us all through these years

“You know, like the pastor said today, God detests those who are ungrateful. And so for what you’ve done for us, for standing with us, we say thank you. Thank you, and thank you.

“You remember, in 2023, when it was tough, nobody knows what will happen in that election. Somebody was saying that it will be difficult for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to win that election.

“So many people were not able to come and vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But we all met, as leaders here, and you, to say in politics, we must take a stand and defend it; that we must take a decision, whether it is good or bad.

“But we know at the end of the day it will be  good. But we did it. When it was tough for people to say on your mandate we stand, we stood firm and said on your mandate we stand and to the glory of God, we stood.

“And today he is the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He thanked the people for standing firm, saying,” so you are the ones who made the mandate to be strong as far as Rivers State is concerned. “

Wike condemned persons, who could not stand on Tinubu’s mandate when it was tough to do so but suddenly defected to his party at a rosy period to declare support for the President.

He said: “So all these people you are now seeing singing on your mandate we stand, that time, when they were needed most, they couldn’t sing that. They couldn’t come out to say, vote for Ahmed Bola Tinubu

“Now that you stood and voted for him, and even said, woman, I tell you, all your struggle will not go in vain. So we have come to tell you to remain strong.

“Nigerians know us. When we take a decision, we have taken a decision. We don’t take decision based on what people have seen.

“We take a decision based on what we are convinced. We believe that this will happen. You stood firm even when you were not in power. You stood firm even when you were not in council.

“You were harassed. You said, no, no despite the harassment, I will still stand where I am. So for us, it will be unfair that we cannot come and tell you, thank you.

“You know me, I believe in agreement. Anything you know you cannot do, don’t say it, don’t even enter into it. From January next year politics will start.

“Nobody can use us. So let me say yes and agree later. No, I can’t do that. Whatever you have agreed in the morning, it was agreed in the night. So, don’t be worried yourself about who was shouting or your mandate will start. We have shouted when it mattered most.

“If we did not shout it then would they shout now? Would they have shouted now? I have never hidden my position. Nigerians know. And you can attest to it.

“We have never wavered in support of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. If you want to know after Bola Tinubu, the next most abused politician is me. Why are they abusing me? Because they know agreement is what?

“When we have agreed on something, let’s implement it. If you cannot implement it, don’t even come to reach it. So for us, we have decided before now, long ago, that we must make sure we continue to support Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

“That is the position you took. And that is the position we are going to continue to take. So on behalf of our team, we want to thank you, our foot soldiers who have stood firm in spite of all provocations. “

Wike said some politicians in the home front, who went to get something from the governor, resorted to abusing and casting aspersions on him.

He also said most of the projects inaugurated recently by his successor had reached advanced stage and handed over to him in the spirit of continuity.

He said: “At the appropriate time, we will talk. This project you commissioned, who handed it over to you? We did it because we are a team.

“If we knew that we would not be a team, we would not have done it. But we did it, and we have no regrets. I have no regrets

“One thing you should know about Nigerian politics;you know, there is a universal state every time. How you can make money now for a universal state is like that. You go and say, enough is enough for Wike.

“Who deal with Wike, they drop (dish out money)  If you don’t say you will deal with Wike, you won’t get him. I hear we have about N600billion somewhere.

“So just say we will deal with Wike

The moment you pronounce that word, something will come down, “the FCT minister said in a mockery tone.

Earlier,  Nwuche explained that the people of Ekpeye Kingdom would continue to support Wike, for  the numerous projects he attracted to the area while he was governor.

He said: “For the first time, Ekpeye had seven first-class stools. Before now, we only had one. Governors came and left. None of them agreed to elevate our stools. Only him (Wike) did that for us.

“So, I’ve seen people who have used power wrongly. They forget that there’s karma. And that’s why I say Nigerians should be careful in choosing leadership. We know our leaders very well. Ask us about them.

“There are many of them who came into leadership by accident. They have no business being there because they have no human feelings.”

He said people, who found themselves in power should use it to elevate the people and better their lots and “not to oppress them, to break their homes and go.”

He said: “Nobody who follows Wike can say that he hasn’t been impacted positively. Nobody. That’s why you see, no matter where he goes, we shall go there”.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday commended members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for standing and defending what is right in the state and also supported him and President Bola Tinubu.

Wike said they have shown trust and capacity to lead and stand by the right principles.

He gave the commendation while speaking at the reception organized for him by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly at the assembly quarters.

Wike urged them to continue to stand for what is right, adding that they have shown and stood out in the country as the beacon of democracy.

He faulted the moves that led to the withholding of their entitlements by the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, before the declaration of the State of Emergency.

The minister said, “It is important to come to members of the state house of Assembly to say thank you for what you have done for us and the people of Rivers State. I say thank you for the car gift.

“But here in the State House of Assembly all of them have shown that they are working together for the development of the state.

“I have been in politics actively and I have seen it all. This is the first time I have seen legislators telling the world what they stand for and standing firm and that we are a different arm of government. Not a department of government. “So today you stood out in this country as the beacon of democracy. How would elected persons be denied their entitlements simply because they disagreed with you. Your families stood firm with you.

…says we will keep supporting him now that is easy

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Saturday reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu.

Wike recalled that during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State, he and his supporters openly and boldly supported Tinubu to win the Presidential election in 2023 when it was difficult in Rivers State.

He vowed to keep supporting the President now that things are easy.

The minister spoke in Ochigba, in Ahoada East Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State, during a meeting with People Democratic Party (PDP), stakeholders, when he attended the end of the year thanksgiving service, organized by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche in his hometown.

He assured the stakeholders that their struggle will never be in vain, urging them to continue to support Tinubu despite intimidation in the state.

Wike said those who supported Tinubu before the 2023 presidential election, which later led to his victory are recognized, compared to those who are presently shouting ‘on your mandate we shall stand’.

The minister said, “I want to say thank you for being there for us all through these years. We know those who are ungrateful. Thank you for standing with us. Remember in 2023, When it was tough. Nobody knows what will happen in that election. So many people were saying that it will be difficult for the President Bola Tinubu to win then. So many people were not able to come out openly and boldly to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“But we all met to say in politics you must take a stand, you must take a decision whether it will be good or bad, but we know at the end of the day it will be good. And now it is good. We did it when it was difficult to say on your mandate we stand. And to the glory of God, we stood today. You are the ones who made the President strong as far as Rivers State is concerned.

“So, all these people now that you are seeing singing on your mandate we shall stand, that time when they were needed most, they couldn’t sing that and could not come out to say vote for Tinubu. Now that we stood and voted for him and River State won, I tell you all your struggle will not go in vain. We have come to let you know that we are still strong. Nigerians know us, when we take a decision, we have taken the decision.

“We don’t make decisions based on what people have seen, we make decisions that we are convinced and we believe that this will happen. From January next year, let me inform you that we will start politics. You know me, I believe in ‘agreement is agreement’. Anything you know you cannot do, don’t say it. Nobody can use us. Whatever you have agreed in the morning, you must agree in the night.

“So don’t worry yourself about those who are shouting on your mandate we shall stand. We have shouted when it matters most. If we did not shout then for him to have won, would they have shouted now? I have never hidden my position, Nigerians know and you can attest to it. After President Bola Tinubu, the next most abused politician is me. Why are they abusing me because they know that ‘agreement is agreement’. When we have agreed on something let us implement it. If we cannot implement it, then don’t let us talk about it.

“For us we have said that we will continue to support Ahmed Bola Tinubu. That is the position you took and that is the position you are going to still take. I came to reassure you that no problem.”
