ALPi Group opens new office in Angola

Africa Law Practice International Group (ALPi Group), one of Africa’s leading Pan-African corporate and commercial law firms, has opened a new office in Luanda, Angola, marking its first entry into a Lusophone African jurisdiction.

Strategically located in the heart of Maculusso, Luanda, at Travessa Rodrigo de Miranda nº 33, ALPi Angola is established from the ground up in partnership with leading Angolan lawyers.

The launch represents a significant milestone in ALPi Group’s continental expansion, following its strong footprint across Anglophone Africa and its successful entry into the OHADA Francophone zone.

ALPi Angola will operate as a full-service corporate and commercial law firm, offering general legal services with a strong focus on cross-border trade, market entry advisory, international transactions, banking and finance, oil and gas, mining, telecommunications and fintech, real estate, trust law, as well as legal advisory services for embassies, diplomatic missions and foreign investors.

Legal practice in Angola will be undertaken by lawyers duly registered with the Ordem dos Advogados de Angola, in full compliance with local professional regulations, supported by a wealth of consultants and experts from across the Group.

Mr. Olasupo Shasore (SAN), Chairman of ALPi Group and Co-Chairman of the Commonwealth Legal Network, said: “Our entry into Angola is both deliberate and strategic. It reflects ALPi Group’s long-term vision of building a truly Pan-African legal platform that mirrors Africa’s linguistic, legal and commercial diversity.

“Angola is central to Africa’s energy, infrastructure and trade future, and establishing a strong, locally grounded practice here enables us to better support cross-border investment, regional integration and Africa’s evolving role in the global economy.”

Also commenting, Ms Nana Adjoa Hackman, Managing Partner of Africa Legal Associates (ALPi Ghana) stated:

“ALPi’s expansion into Lusophone Africa completes an important chapter in our continental strategy. Having built deep capacity across Anglophone Africa and the OHADA Francophone zone, Angola positions us at the intersection of Southern Africa, Lusophone ma rkets and global trade routes. This office strengthens our ability to advise investors, governments and institutions operating across Africa under the AfCFTA and within the wider Commonwealth and Global South.” Ms Hackman also sits on the influential Global Advisory Council of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council.

Welcoming ALPi’s entry into Angola, Mr. Mário Gomes, of Grupo Simples, one of Angola’s leading indigenous oil and gas services companies and a client of ALPi Angola, said:

“We are pleased to be clients of ALPi Angola. Working with the firm in just these few weeks has opened our group of companies to opportunities in Angola and across the continent. What has impressed us most is the depth and breadth of expertise within the ALPi Group. Their strategic entry into Angola will help Angolan companies expand their intra-African trade, while their strong presence and long experience in Anglophone Africa is a major advantage for foreign companies seeking to do business in Angola and also neighbouring countries.”

The entry into Angola is a strategic decision for ALPi Group. Angola is one of Africa’s largest economies, a leading energy and minerals jurisdiction, and a critical gateway linking Southern, Central and Lusophone Africa, with strong commercial ties to Europe, Brazil and the wider Global South.

As Angola continues to liberalise its economy, attract foreign direct investment and deepen its participation in regional and continental trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), ALPi sees growing demand for sophisticated, cross-border legal advisory services anchored in local expertise and continental reach.

The Angola launch follows recent continental recognition of ALPi Group’s excellence. In 2025, ALP NG & Co, ALPi Group’s Nigerian member firm, was named Pan-African Business Law Firm of the Year at the BusinessDay Legal Awards, reflecting the Group’s strength in business law, corporate law and cross-border advisory across Africa. This recognition complements other recent honours, including IFLR1000 rankings for ALPi practitioners in 2025, underscoring the Group’s consistent delivery of strategic, high-value legal services in key sectors such as energy, finance and infrastructure.

With the launch of ALPi Angola, the Group now operates in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Namibia, Mauritius and Angola, with a representative office in Guyana (ALA Strategic Consult Ltd), further strengthening its position as a truly Pan-African legal services platform.

Author offers hope for sickle cell warriors

The atmosphere at Excellence Hotel, Ogba, Lagos, was filled with hope, reflection, and renewed purpose as author and advocate Harriet   Afolabi unveiled her much-anticipated book: ‘Divine Haemoglobin.’

More than a routine book launch, the event served as a rallying point for sickle cell warriors, caregivers, and health advocates, urging a rethink of daily living, faith, and personal responsibility in managing sickle cell disorder (SCD).

The book is designed as a practical guide to help people living with SCD improve their health, thrive, and live optimally.

Speaking at the event, Afolabi said, ‘Divine Haemoglobin’ was born out of lived experience, deep reflection, and a strong conviction that individuals must learn to listen to their bodies and make informed, life-giving choices.

“Our mission is clear,” she said. “We want to reach 25,000 sickle cell warriors with this book, support 25 sickle cell warriors in need, and carry out strategic awareness campaigns on the dilemmas and prevention of sickle cell disorder.”

A key message of the book is the importance of personal responsibility in health management, particularly in what individuals eat, drink, and consume as medication. Afolabi urged sickle cell warriors to pay close attention to how their bodies respond to treatments, foods, and supplements.

“Not everything works for everyone,” she said. “You need to listen to your body and take what is good for you.”

Using a striking analogy, the author likened human life to a product made by a manufacturer, explaining that just as products come with manuals for optimal use, God has also provided humanity with a manual for life—the Bible.

“If you follow the manual, you get the best out of the product,” she said. “If you don’t, you may still use it, but not to its full potential.”

Drawing from her personal journey, Afolabi recounted how early exposure to faith shaped her outlook on life and health. She shared light-hearted memories from her secondary school days, stressing the importance of teaching children the Word of God early so it becomes part of them.

She also emphasised discernment in health decisions, recounting her experience with a drug she once took to gain weight, which resulted in severe side effects.

“I had to stop,” she said. “Now, I ask God before taking anything.” She added that she has since found better results with natural remedies and herbs.

Afolabi further revealed her adverse reactions to some supplements commonly prescribed for sickle cell patients, noting that research increasingly supports caution in the use of certain synthetic drugs and encourages natural alternatives where possible.

Chairman of the occasion, Pastor Tunji Ayegbusi, described Divine Haemoglobin as a transformative work, urging sickle cell warriors and their families to embrace its guidance. “This book is more than information; it is empowerment,” he said.

The event was anchored by Bolaji Agnes Fajaso, Publisher of Elite Magazine, who shared her testimony on the benefits of using the right vitamins, minerals, and herbs. A chapter review was delivered by accountant Ruth Nwachukwu, who explained the science of haemoglobin and how SCD affects oxygen delivery in the body.

The welcome address was given by the author’s twin brother, Harry Omobogie, while notable guests included classmates from the University of Ibadan and representatives of A-classites 2009.

In Divine Haemoglobin, Afolabi blends faith, lived experience, and practical wisdom, offering sickle cell warriors a compelling reminder that thriving with SCD is possible through knowledge, discernment, faith, and intentional living.

    • Presidential hopeful meets Obasanjo, Babangida

A former presidential candidate and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential hopeful, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has intensified consultations ahead of the 2027 general election.

He held separate high-level meetings yesterday with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd.).

The closed-door meetings were part of Hashim’s ongoing nationwide engagements with elder statesmen and key national figures to discuss the future direction of Nigeria.

It was learnt that Hashim assured the former leaders of his capacity to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges, rebuild national unity, stabilise the polity, and restore economic prosperity.

He stressed that Nigeria urgently needs purposeful, inclusive, and unifying leadership to avert deeper national fractures.

Both Obasanjo and Babangida, though non-partisan, are widely regarded as influential elder statesmen who remain deeply invested in Nigeria’s unity and stability, having played defining roles in the country’s political and military history.

Hashim arrived at Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, around 11 a.m. and departed roughly an hour later. He subsequently travelled to Minna, the Niger State capital, where he met with Babangida aboard a Hawker 800 jet with registration number 5N-BZP.

During the Minna meeting, Hashim recalled Babangida’s historic role in preserving Nigeria’s unity, referencing the sacrifices he made during the Nigerian Civil War.

“General, you still carry in your body the wounds of the war fought to keep Nigeria one. Many of your colleagues were not fortunate to survive that struggle. If Nigeria is allowed to disintegrate today through incompetent leadership, then the sacrifices of patriots like you would have been wasted,” Hashim said.

He stressed that the 2027 general election must be centred on national rescue, warning that continued leadership failure could further endanger the country’s cohesion and stability.

Hashim was accompanied on the visits by the Chairman of the Northcentral Renaissance Movement, Prof. Nghargbu K’ts, as well as other aides.
