Popular rapper Eldee slammed N100bn lawsuit for defamation

Nigerian rapper, Sikirullahi Olarenwaju Dabiri aka Eldee, has after an interview been hit with N100 billion in damages for making defamatory remarks against a businessman, Dr Akintoye Akindele.

Nigerian rapper, Sikirullahi Olarenwaju Dabiri, known as Eldee, is facing a N100 billion lawsuit for making alleged defamatory statements about a businessman, Akintoye Akindele during an interview.

Akindele is the Managing Director/Chief of an influential and top-tier organisation.

Eldee maliciously characterised the businessman as a fraudster during a podcast with Teju Babyface on August 15, 2023.

According to a letter written by the businessman’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, on Friday, Eldee claimed on the programme that Akindele deceived investors and used their money to fund his luxurious lifestyle.

Olajengbesi refuted the claims as false, untrue, ludicrous, and defamatory.

The letter read in part: “It is pertinent to state at this point that our client (Akindele) remains a law-abiding and diligent businessman for many years.

“The acts complained of have not only defamed our client but have also disingenuously subjected him to public ridicule while also relegating his status with business partners, investors, friends, and family who called his attention to the said publication.

“We are equally aware of the fact that some cohorts and power-lodgers have recently recruited you in the ongoing power tussle to wrestle for the management of Duport Midstream Company Limited, a company that our client built painstakingly and meticulously through years of diligence and commitment.”

“More disconcerting is your role in this malicious publication being a beneficiary of our client’s generosity during a time of need.

“You may recall our client’s goodwill to you over the years when you’re dying career needed survival, and our client provided you with a shoulder to lean on.”

“Your transformation from a beneficiary to an antagonist only amplifies the gravity of your actions, suggesting ulterior motives driven by a sinister alliance, “the lawyer added.

Olajengbesi demanded that Eldee retracts his defamatory comments against Akindele through the same podcast.

Other demands include: “An unreserved letter of apology written by you and addressed to our client; admitting the falsity of your publications and apologising for same.

“A sum of N100, 000,000,000.00 (One Hundred Billion Naira) as damages for the injury caused to our client by your defamatory publication”.

  • Eight smallest countries you never knew existed

Eight smallest countries you never knew existed

There are more than 200 countries in the world. But there are States and territories on this planet we never knew existed. They occupy a small area and some of them are inhabited by just a couple of families.

Here are the eight smallest countries you never knew existed:

    The Principality of Hutt River

The Principality of Hutt River is a micronation seceded from Australia claiming a status of an independent sovereign State in 1970. Its area is 29 square miles with a  population of 30 permanent residents and 13,000 to 18,000 overseas citizens. It is currently governed by Prince Graeme.

    Tuvalu

Tuvalu is one of the smallest and poorest countries in the world. The economic situation of the tiny state could be even more disastrous if Tuvalu hadn’t been given the Internet domain .tv, which annually brings millions of dollars to the country’s budget.

    Nauru

Nauru is an island country in the Pacific Ocean better known as the “Pleasant Island.” It claims an area of 8.2 square miles and has a thriving population of  11,000 people. It is one of the smallest, independent republics with Baron Waqa as its President.

Environmental problems make the republic very unpopular among tourists. Another “record” of Nauru is the number of obese people: the obesity rate in the country is more than 70%.

    The Principality of Seborga

This micro-nation on the territory of Italy is ruled by His Tremendousness Marcello I. The Principality of Seborga is actually a village of the same name near the French border. The unrecognized state has an army that consists of 3 people: the Minister of Defense and two border guards.

    The Republic of Molossia

The Republic of Molossia is a self-proclaimed micronation founded by Kevin Baugh in 1999. It is in the state of Nevada with an area of 0.0020 square miles and a current population of 34 (including dogs).

Molossia has its own national anthem, national emblem and national flag. They even have the death penalty for particularly serious crimes. It issues its own passports and even has a space program. In May 2017, the Republic turned 40.

    Palau

Palau contains about 340 islands in the western Pacific Ocean. This island country has an area of 177 square miles and a population of 21,503 people. Its territorial waters are known to be inhabited by around 130 species of sharks, and it is one of the most beautiful places to visit.

    Niue

Niue is a tiny island state in Oceania. Despite the truly amazing views, tourism is not popular there. Therefore, the country depends greatly on foreign aid, especially from New Zealand. The capital city is just a small village with a population fewer than 600 people. But the island has its own airport and a real supermarket, the one and only in the whole state.

    Saint Kitts and Nevis

The state consists of two islands: Saint Kitts and Nevis. One of the main sources of income is the economic citizenship program that allows anyone who has at least $250,000 to invest in the local sugar industry and thus obtain the status of a citizen of St. Kitts. Another way of obtaining citizenship is to purchase a property worth no less than $400,000 on either of the two islands.

  • Things to know before venturing into fishing farming

Things to know before venturing into fishing farming

    • By, Adebiyi Abdullahi Olaiya

Fish farming in Nigeria is a very lucrative and fast growing business. And many fish farmers in the country are making big money every month from sales of fish and fingerlings. Catfish farming is one of the fast selling breeds of fish that has a high market demands as well as market value too.

Due to this, a lot of Nigerians are trooping into the business to invest in it and make a mouthwatering profit on every market harvest. But as much as the fish business can be profitable it can also put one in a big doom if invested in at the wrong period/wrong time.

As a starter who wants to get into fish farming business here are some of the key important things you must have made available or have already arranged before you embark on the business journey, and they are:

A.A locally dug pond (not a concrete/cemented pond).

    B. Make sure you have made findings about the best fingerlings seller

C.Make sure you can provide at least 60% of fish feeds that can feed them for the first 8 weeks of stocking them.

D.Do not overstock fish in the pond (even if you think you have the resources that it takes).

E.As a starter do not start a fish business during the dry season most especially if your mud pond cannot independently produce water without rainfall.

F.Make sure the pond is well constructed with at least one inlet, one outlet, and one overflow (in case of flooding).

All the above mentioned factors are very essential to be put in place before a starter hops on the train of the fish business. You might have enough money and even materials to start up with but without the basic knowledge about; What to stock?, When to stock?, Where to stock?, and How to stock?, will leave you on a very loose end of losing all that you have invested in the business. Answering these questions will give more insight to what the writer have been giving explanations about.

A.What to stock: This regards to the breed of fish you might like to stock as they are varieties of options you can go for but to the best of my knowledge I would recommend the ‘Clarias’ breed for a starter because they tend to have rapid growth and they’re beginner friendly.

B.When to stock: This is said to be the most important factor that determine the future of your investment, it makes or mark the end results of the harvest. The raining season is the best recommended time to dwell into the business as the provision of adequate water supply won’t be a problem, because the most important thing for fishes to survive is to live in a good water condition, the feeding comes second.

C.Where to stock: Selection of the right farm settlement and the type of pond used has a great effect on the growth and developments of your fish stocks. The mud ponds has greater advantages over the concrete ponds most especially for starters. Research has it that fishes like to live in a natural environment and the habitats of these species indicates that a mud setting is more advisable and would be best to begin with.

D.How to stock: As a starter never embrace the idea to overstock a pond regardless of how financially fit you think you are. Having money to buy enough feeds for fishes is a separate thing and knowing and maintaining the pond capacity standards is another thing entirely. Pond size varies depending on the taste of the farmer but the quantity to stock is not only determined by the largeness but also the depth of it and how independently the pond can produce its own water in the absence of rainfall in the case of mud ponds.

Being able to critically review and evaluate these contributing factors means that you are good to go as a starter in the fish business. Although I would advise that you engage in your personal research and seek help from experts if you encounter any strange experience in the course. You have every right to become a successful fish farmer if you master the best approach to the business.

Subsidy removal: Economic tragedy would have tripled without Tinubu – Alawuje

The National Coordinator of Disciples of Jagaban, one of the foremost support groups of of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has called on Nigerians to be calm in the face of high cost of living.

Alawuje, in a statement on Saturday,  said subsidy has been a serious scam on Nigeria and Nigerians for the past 40 years responsible for 50 per cent of the nation’s resource diverted obnoxiously to private pockets.

According to him: ‘The present conondrum in the country is known and fully prepared for by the President. Of course, we are not expecting the battle to come lightly.

“Definitely, the scammers must fight back and Nigerians should know. We have a very strong leader in Jagaban: a success minded and a war fighter to the core.

“If we fail to face this battle now and cross it forever, we may not be able to face it again. That is double tragedy.

“We are having Asiwaju who knows the length and breadth of the circumstances that surrounded the war and he has a strong desire to fight it and win it once and for all.

“We understand what the citizens will pass through especially during the battle. No wonder he said Nigerians should not pity him because he knew what he was coming to face.

“Most of us should remember that those who drove cars with mouths can never involve in accident. Also, the spectators outside the football field are better players than the professional  footballers in the heat of the game.

“I have said it times without numbers. I was in the campaign movement with many previous leaders and I have never seen anyone who is as serious as Tinubu- who knows what he is coming to face  and who knows what are the challenges  Nigerians will pass through during the restructuring of the system. He has prepared to end the stalemates as soon as possible.

“It is pertinent to  know and realise that the previous government also meant well for this nation but the prevailing circumstances in the system is not friendly to them at all.

“In the previous leadership, we only experienced difficulties along the line. But now, Asiwaju took the problem ravaging us in the jugular leading to a lot of reactions which is normal. His approach exposed the rot in the oil sector value chain  and particularly how very few but powerful individuals have almost milked our resources dry.

“He kicked the ground running from the very beginning of his administration and the echoes reverberated across the entire West African subregion, even culminating in regime change in one of the countries.

“However, the effect of the policy hit Nigerians hard leading to criticisms. It was expected. I am very sure that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Let us team up with him and end this imbroglio  together at once.”

  • 10 ways to get your kids busy during summer holiday

10 ways to get your kids busy during summer holiday

Holidays are arguably the time of year when majority of parents get to spend time with their kids. Being the culmination of several weeks’ worth of academic activity, it is also a time that kids find exciting and look forward to.

While some kids enjoy the holiday season and find it exciting, others may find it dull because there isn’t anything enjoyable to do. Some child development specialists contend that the type of environment that parents provide for their kids affects how they spend the holidays.

For parents and guardians having challenges creating a fun holiday environment for their kids, here are 10 tips to help:

    1. Camping: If you have a tent and live in a secure environment, you can arrange a camping trip in your garden with the children for one night. During the period, they can use the opportunity to engage in paintings which can be bought in shops. Let the kids paint and hang up their creations in their rooms.

    2. Volunteer: You can also find a practical way for your children to serve and contribute to the community. Go with them to clean the streets or deliver meals to the homeless, the sick in the hospital or the elderly ones.

    3. Learn a new skill: Your children can use the holiday to learn skills like coding, public speaking, cooking, drawing, car wash, photography and how to repair broken items. You may never know how this would prepare them for the future.

    4. Visit museums: The arts culture is perhaps low in Nigeria, but that’s probably because many adults themselves don’t go to places where arts are displayed. Use the holiday to take your children to the museum. It will make them more knowledgeable and they’d also leave the place inspired. Most museums don’t charge high fees for children.

    5. Learn a new language: Children have the ability to learn new skills and languages faster than adults. Find places around you where languages are taught or hire a language tutor for them. Within two weeks, you might be surprised they are able to construct a sentence in a new language.

    6. Make them watch educational YouTube videos: Your children can watch crash courses on YouTube, where they can learn a series of subjects such as physics, history, chemistry, astronomy and biology.

    7. Create a family photo album: Most of our pictures are digital and simply sit on our cellphones or cameras without us ever displaying them at home. Why not make a point of having some family photos printed and let your children create their very own family album? Let them decorate the pages, while you share stories about each family member. This seemingly simple activity will enhance your children’s memory, as well as encourage their creativity as they decorate each page.

    8. Play a musical instrument: Some children pick up interest in music while growing up. Some eventually grow up to be professional singers, while others remain music lovers. Studies have shown that music plays a remarkable role in the development of the human brain. Let your children learn how to play a musical instrument.

    9. Sports: Some of the famous and highest-earning athletes today began at a young age. Even if your kids don’t turn out to be professional athletes, they can engage in sports.

    10. Create or Keep Family Traditions or Routines: Holiday traditions help create beautiful memories for your kids to look back on when they are all grown up.
