    INEC to resume collation of Presidential election results Monday

    The Independent National Electoral Commission has adjourned collation of the Presidential election results till 11am On Monday.

    The Commission Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said the adjournment was to allow the commission make special arrangement to bring the remaining State Returning Officers to Abuja.

    He said the commission was confident that other states would conclude the processes of collation and being the results to Abuja for national collation.

    The Result for the Presidential election was presented to the INEC Chairman who is the Chief Returning Officer by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orogun, Prof Akin Olawole Lasisi.

    I. The results, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu scored 210,494 to defeat 17 other candidates.

    Former Vice President and candidate of the PDP scored 89,554 to come second former Anambra state governor and candidate of the Labour Party scored 11,397, to come third.

    Scores by other parties are A-69, AA-29, AAC-108, ADC-1,337, ADP-737, APGA-268, APM-46, APP-91, BP- 46, NNPP-264, NRM-131, PRP-48,SDP-2011, YPP-81, ZLP-460.

    Prof Salami said elections in two polling units were cancelled for bypassing the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and over voting.

    Responding to a question from the agent to the PDP, Senator Dino Melaye, Prof Salami said “we discovered that the number of accredited voters as contained in the BVAS was more that the number of votes cast leading to over voting and therefore, the result had to be cancelled.

    Results of more states are expected to arrive Abuja before the exercise resume at 11 am on Monday.

    The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Campbell Laing and the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard as well as the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu witnessed the exercise.

    Atiku wins in six Adamawa LGAs

    The presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar won in all the six local government areas announced on Sunday night by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

    Atiku polled 9,912 votes in Lamurde LGA to be slightly ahead of the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi who got 9,744 votes.

    In the results announced at the state Presidential collation centre in Yola, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu got 3,645 votes in Lamurde.

    Results of the Girei LGA announced immediately afterwards showed that Atiku got 17,557 votes against Tinubu’s 8,531 and Peter Obi’s 3749.

    As in Lamurde, the three got the highest votes in Girei.

    The pattern was repeated in Shelleng LGA where Atiku polled 14,765 against Tinubu’s 6,213 and Obi’s 1,028.

    In Toungo LGA, according to the Presidential election results, Atiku had 7,401 votes while Tinubu polled 4,163 and Obi 651 votes.

    Results announced for Guyuk LGA indicated that Atiku again led the pack with 13,942 votes, followed by Obi with 8,165 and Tinubu with 5,904 votes.

    For the results from Ganye, Atiku amassed 21,672 votes to beat Tinubu who got 10,112 votes and Obi who obtained 1,069 votes.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has commenced collation of the Presidential election results for Imo State at its headquarters in Owerri, the state capital.

    The Labour Party(LP) Presidential candidate Peter Obi is leading in the results announced so far.

    Results from eight Local Governments have been collated by the LG Collation officers under the watch of Prof. Charles Esimone, Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra, who is the Collation Officer for Imo State.

    Tinubu leads in 17 Ogun LGAs

    The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has commenced collation of the Presidential election results for Ogun State. 

    The All Progressives Congress(APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is leading in 17 local governments.

    Results from 17 Local Governments(LG) have so far been collated by the appropriate designated LG Collation officers under the watch of Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, who is the State Collation Officer for Ogun State in respect of the presidential poll.

    Below are results from the councils:

    APC wins Edo Central, Oshiomhole, LP’s Imasuen coasting home

    The senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Edo Central, Monday Okpebholo, has won Saturday’s National Assembly election.

    It is the first time that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will lose the district since 1999.

    A former National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is coasting home to victory in Edo North but PDP’s incumbent Senator Francis Alimikhena is putting up a good fight.

    With the impressive performance of Labour Party (LP) in the presidential election in Edo state, LP’s Neda Imasuen, a lawyer, is most likely to emerge in Edo South Senatorial District where Governor Godwin Obaseki of PDP hails from.

    But the collation was not yet concluded as of press time.

    The Deputy House Majority Leader, Peter Akpatason, is returning to represent Akoko-Edo federal constituency for the fourth term on APC’s platform.

    The Collation Officer, Prof. Robert Okuonghae, announced the results in Igarra, the headquarters of Akoko-Edo federal constituency.

    Akpatason polled 14,982 votes to defeat his closest rival, Kabiru Adjoto of PDP with 9,293 votes.

    APC also won the Etsako federal constituency with its candidate, Dekery Anamero, scoring 58,692 votes to defeat Andy Momodu of the PDP, with 25,132.

    The returning officer, Prof. Adesina Ayinde announced the result while others are being collated.

    Abia REC reportedly in DSS custody

    The Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Uzochukwu Chijioke has been reportedly detained at the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Umuahia, the state capital on Sunday.

    It was gathered Chijioke was reportedly arrested by the security agency over his alleged role in the delay of electoral materials to their various polling wards and units on Saturday.

    He was reported to have been arrested on Sunday morning.

    The administrative secretary of the commission, Celestine Oha addressed journalists instead of the REC.

    When contacted the PRO of INEC, Bamidele Oyetunji, denied the arrest of the state INEC boss but said that he was asked to step aside.

    Asked why the REC was asked to step aside, Oyetunji declined further comments.

    Ogun West: Senator Adeola relected

    The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance and APC Senatorial candidate for Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola has emerged the winner of Ogun West Senatorial District seat in the Presidential and National Assembly Election held yesterday.

    Senator Adeola, who is the senator currently representing Lagos West Senatorial District won the Ogun West Senatorial election by a total vote of 112,887 to his closest rival of PDP, Chief Ganiyu Dada Obanibasiri who scored 60,189. The Labour Party candidate came third with a total vote of 19, 244.

    The result was announced by Professor. Oluseye Olusegun Onabanjo of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta at the Oronna Townhall, Ilaro, the Ogun West Senatorial Collation Centre at about 7. 30pmtoday.

    Senator Adeola who had won all his five previous elections consecutively made national history by winning again in Ogun West from his present senatorial district of Lagos West making a senator in a state and a senator-elect in another state until the expiration of his current term in June this year.

    Senator Adeola had won his party’s primary in Ogun West against the incumbent senator, Senator Tolu Odebiyi by a total vote of 294 against zero for the incumbent in a democratic election that had the presence of the incumbent.

    The winning votes of 112,887 votes for Senator Adeola marked a departure from the previous senatorial election of 2019, where the winner scored 58, 452 votes out of a total of 150,517 of the three top candidates. The total vote cast for the three leading candidates in this election 192, 320.

    Expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the poll in his favour and in favour of all APC candidates, including APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Adeola thanked God and his people for the overwhelming confidence and trust they expressed through their votes adding that having gone round the nooks and crannies of Ogun West in his ward to ward campaign tour, he knows where the shoe pinches them and is ready to give effective representation never experienced before in the district.

    “I want to assure you that having gone round the 59 wards of the district, I am aware of the developmental challenges facing my people in the area of infrastructure, energy, education and healthcare. Even before the election, I have started addressing some of these challenges and I promise to continue in similar pattern in the days, weeks and months ahead” he stated, according to

    Gbenga Daniel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has polled 115,147 votes to defeat his closest rival Barr. Ajibola Kalejaiye of People’s Democratic Party(PDP) who scores 58,708 votes while the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Banjoko Kazeem Adesina scored 13,061 votes, according to the results sheet signed by the Returning Officer, Prof Christopher Onwuka.

    The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is leading in four local governments announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Gombe.

    The results as announced by INEC include Funakaye LG, APC 12,672, PDP 25,384, NNPP 967, LP 320 and PRP 34.

    Balanga Local Government, APC 11, 715, PDP 23,326, NNPP 405, LP 3,760 and PRP 63.

    Nafada Local Government; APC 8,242, PDP 12,339, NNPP 344, LP 04 and PRP 08.

    Shongom Local Government; APC 7,525, PDP 13,520, LP 2,579 NNPP 256 and PRP 02.

    Gbajabiamila wins sixth consecutive term

    Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has assured residents of Surulere 1 federal constituency of productive representation, assuring them that he will not disappoint them.

    Gbajabiamila, who won Saturday’s House of Representatives election for the sixth consecutive time, expressed appreciation his constituents for the confidence they have in him.

    The Speaker polled 19,717 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Bosun Jeje of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 5,121 votes.

    Gbajabiamila said he remained grateful to the people of Surulere 1 for giving him the sixth term mandate, noting that he would not disappoint them.

    He said he would continue to work assiduously and bring more developmental projects to Surulere and beyond.

    “I am immensely grateful to the people of Surulere for their overwhelming support. I do not take your support for granted.

    “As your representative for the past 20 years, I have always protected your interest. I am proud of you as my constituents. I thank our teeming supporters, our Surulere APC leaders, party members, CDAs and residents for their massive support.

    “This victory is not mine alone. It is a victory for democracy. Surulere has made history by this sixth mandate given to me, which would definitely spur me to do more for you,” Gbajabiamila said.

    The Speaker was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003 and has won elections in the subsequent five election cycles, including Saturday’s.

    Gbajabiamila remains the only lawmaker from South West geopolitical zone to have been elected six times to represent his constituency.

    During his 20-year journey in the House of Representatives , Gbajabiamila has served as Minority Whip, Minority Leader, Opposition Leader and Majority Leader before elected as Speaker in 2019.

    He remains the only lawmaker in Africa to have done this.
