  • Eunice Kalu remains political force

    Eunice Kalu remains political force

At over 80, the influence of Elder Mrs. Eunice Orji Kalu on the political scene remains unrivalled.

When her son, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu contested and won the election to lead Abia State in May 1999, many had wondered how she would make the transition from being a female party leader to the mother of the governor. However, her ability to remain neutral and for the people has not only earned her a seat with the elders, but also the remarkable influence that keeps her a recurring force on the political scene.

For many, Mother Excellency as she is known seems to walk the line between the necessarily supporting nature of her role as a community leader and the personal expectation as the mother of a former governor and sitting senator. She didn’t only campaign for her son but also proved her competence by pulling heavy political weights and statesmen like ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in her campaign.

Hence, it didn’t come as a surprise when the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the company of House of Reps Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu visited the political juggernaut to consult ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The reason for Victor Moghalu’s joy

Society birds have continued to chirp about Victor Moghalu’s joy in the last few years. On further inquiry, the reason for his happiness has been confirmed as the success of his tech-heavy company, Kobobid. A few weeks back, Moghalu hosted a close-knit gathering of associates, families, and friends for another year of success-filled testimonies at his Mende, Maryland office.

Moghalu was full of gratitude as he opened up on the success of the business that started with just one game in 2021 to four games in 2022. Speaking about the Kobobid brand that is famous for penny auctions, a popular characteristic of his firm, Moghalu said: “A Penny auction also referred to as pay-to-bid auctions is a type of online auction where you pay to bid and bid on items with the purchased bids. Unlike typical auctions where the highest bidder wins and is the only one who pays for the item, all participants in a penny auction pay to bid. Typically, there’s no specific end time for a penny auction, the auction goes as long as there is continued interest in winning the item.” Moghalu also said that the Kobobid brand is part shopping and e-commerce, part gaming, and also a part chance since some bidders win and some lose.

Mother Abimbola Esther Ajayi, who also used the occasion to celebrate the 15th anniversary of her London church. He thanked her for choosing him to give a message even though he was not an ordained pastor.

He started his sermon with a praise song; then led a short prayer session. He thanked God for the opportunity to see the day and asked Him to open the hearts of everyone to the message.

After recognising the presence of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who recently took a new wife, and other prominent personalities, he gave the title of his message as Giving Testimony. He said he had decided to follow the path of Pastor Enoch Adeboye who preached at the unveiling of the cathedral last year.

Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo, also caught attention at the event as he paid homage to the elderly. Guests were seen talking about his humility. He prostrated before the Ooni and other top dignitaries who attended the event.
