    Ibidunni ‘resurfaces’

There is a belief that when some people die, they come back into the world in the form of a newborn baby. The theory may be seen as superstition and one that lacks merit but the African religion has shared the belief for many years.

Seven days after family and friends held a 42nd posthumous birthday for the former beauty queen, Ibidunni Ighodalo, his brother Diran welcomed a set of twins. He named the two girls Ibidun and Ibidunni, as her late sister was known.

The belief is that the late beauty queen may have returned but this time she decided to return in the bodies of two girls – her brother’s kids. This gives her family members a form of relief or something to look forward to while the kids continue to grow.

Ibidun, who was married to Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, died in 2020. The couple was blessed with two children – a boy and a girl.

According to him, following past traditions is not progressive because times have changed.

“Masquerades should be fun, not scary. Tribal marks should not be forced on kids. When they grow up, they can make their choices. It’s not enough to say you inherit legacies from your forefathers and you must follow them. There are houses built in the past that are no longer useful,” the monarch said.
