    Daughter remembers Ndubuisi Kanu

IT is now a year since the former Military Governor of Lagos State, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu, lost the battle to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the family members have accepted the harsh reality, his daughter, Audrey Joe-Ezigbo, used the occasion to say a word or two about the late respected politician.

It’s also interesting to note that Joe-Ezigbo tested positive for COVID a few days ago but she’s determined to beat it.

In a letter to his dad, the deputy managing director of Falcon Corporation Limited wrote: “Unbelievably, it’s been a year already since you passed on. And what a year! No one prepares you for the loss of a parent no matter how many people you know who have lost theirs.

“But it is well. We find strength and fortitude in God and we move on regardless. You would be proud, of how your children came together and of how we continue to stand strong…

“Indeed, today, my siblings and I have agreed it is not a day of mourning. It’s a day of celebrating the enigma that you were, a man who was great, albeit not perfect.”

According to author also, COVID 19 took her out on January 13 last year and she tested positive for COVID on January 12.

She added: “What a joke! The enemy thought to try the family again?I laugh in igbo. A few people have said to me, ‘don’t be scared.’ I’m not scared dad because I trust God. He is the One Who numbers our days. How we ultimately leave this earth is not promised to us and so truly does not matter.

“Our Father called you because it was His numbered time for you. I still have some assignments to deliver for His glory on this side so I don’t plan to see you again any time soon.”

In his days as a military officer, Kanu fought for the Biafran army in the Nigerian Civil War and was later appointed to Murtala Muhammed’s Supreme Military Council.
