    3SC ready for Rangers’ revenge

    • All Matchday 33 games hold tomorrow

Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan have stated that Enugu Rangers would have a dose of the defeat handed to them in the first round when they slug it out tomorrow in a Glo Premier League Matchday 33 encounter at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba.

The Flying Antelopes whipped the Oluyole Warriors by two unreplied goals during the Matchday 13 league tie at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu and 3SC’s media officer, Jubril Arowolo said revenge would be on their mind tomorrow.

He revealed to SportingLife that the redemptive draw secured at Owerri against Heartland last Wednesday has given the Ibadan side a renewed zeal in their fight towards staying in the premier league next season.

Arowolo, however, warned Rangers not to feature controversial goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel in their Matchday 33 tie if they do not want to court another round of controversies again. 3SC insists that Daniel is still their player and that he has not been properly cleared to play for Rangers.

“We thank God for the draw at Owerri and our next target is to beat Rangers tomorrow at home. We have been told that all weekend’s premier league matches shall hold tomorrow.

“We were beaten 2-0 by Rangers when the first leg was played at Enugu. We are ready to repeat the same treatment tomorrow. We will beat them to exact our revenge on them.

“I will advise them in their own interest not to list Emmanuel Daniel as the team’s goalkeeper on Sunday because he is still our player. We will welcome him back to his home but we will open another chapter that had been kept on hold till now,” Arowolo told SportingLife.

  • We’re better than 3SC — Okey Emordi

    We’re better than 3SC — Okey Emordi

Enugu Rangers coach Okey Emordi says his boys are better than Shooting Stars FC in all ramifications, and are set to prove it when they both clash in the Glo Nigerian Premier League on Sunday.

The Oluyole Warriors host the Flying Antelopes in a week 33 game of the league in Ibadan as the current season draws to a close.

According to standings on the League Management Company website, Rangers are 5th, while 3SC are rooted bottom, and it is a motivation to Emordi.

“We are better than Shooting Stars in all ramifications, if you look at the log we’re better than them,” he told futaa.com

“I don’t think there should be any comparism. Every team have their problem but it is how you manage your problem that matters,” he added.

In the first leg played in June, Rangers ran out 2-0 winners in Enugu, and the Ibadan side would want to pay back, more so that they are swimming in relegation waters.

    • Say they are role model

3SC’s media officer, Jubril Arowolo has heaped plaudits on the Owerri fans that thronged the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri for conducting themselves orderly before, during and after the game despite the fact that the hosts, Heartland were held to a draw by the away team.

The Ibadan based side lost 0-2 at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex during the first stanza of the league but with their current position not too impressive on the league log the club needed to avoid a defeat at Owerri and they deservedly got it at the end of the encounter.

Arowolo said the people of Owerri are a typical example of how fans and spectators should reflect how a game should be whether the home team wins or loses. He commended them to keep up their good conduct and that soccer hooliganism would be a thing of the past if fans do not football games as do or die affair.

“Adepoju put us ahead in the 38th minute and they came back forcefully to equalise in the 54th minute through penalty kick after a foul in our 18 yard box.

“The home crowd should be praised for their conduct before, during and after the game they are shining example of how home crowd should be in football games,” Arowolo told SportingLife.

Lucky 3SC of Ibadan eased their relegation worries with a 1-1 draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri against Heartland.

Taofeek Adepoju put the Oluyole Warriors ahead in the 38th minute before the home team rallied back from the penalty spot through Ikechukwu Ibenegbu in the 54th minute. It was a goal he dedicated to his new kid, Chimamanda.

3SC have 39 points from 31 games with a game at hand while Heartland moved to 45 points from 32 ties.

    • Heartland fans disappointed

It was celebration galore for Oluyole Warriors Wednesday as the Ibadan based side left the Dan Anyiam stadium with a point in the kitty.

The eight-time Federation Cup winners who are currently battling to maintain their place in the premier league, had approached the tie with all the seriousness it deserved, an approached with earned them an impressive away goal thanks to Gabriel Adikwu who found the net in the 30th minute.

The goal passed for a spoiler for teeming Heartland fans that had turned out in large numbers to cheer the Nazi Millionaires to victory. The odds appeared to favour 3SC after the goal as the visitors maintained the tempo and wishing to even run away with a win.

It was, however, Super Sand Eagles star Ikechukwu Ibenegbu that came to the rescue of the homers in the 57th minute after converting a penalty.

Prior to Wednesday’s draw the Nazi Millionaires had equally registered a draw against Akwa United away. If Heartland had succeeded in claiming the three points at stake, they would have moved from their current 7th position on the log to the fifth place. The dream of improving on their standing will now have to wait for the next tie against Sharks away and El-Kanemi Warriors at home respectively.

An elated 3SC did not waste time in celebrating their satisfaction with the result earned in Owerri as captured in their twitter handle ?@oluyolewarriors shortly after the final whistle. “It ended 1-1 against Heartland today at the Dan Anyiam stadium. A vital point for us to escape the drop.”

  • LMC fines 3SC N3m, Sunshine get full points

LMC fines 3SC N3m, Sunshine get full points

In its preliminary ruling on the abandoned Week 30 Glo Premier League match in Akure, the League Management Company (LMC) has indicted Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), fined it N3m and ducked 3 points from already accrued points for abandoning the match against Sunshine Stars in Akure on Sunday, September 8.

LMC announced the decision in a letter to the Management of the two Clubs and said the findings were based on the official match reports which did not support the claims of 3SC. The letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer of LMC, Salihu Abubakar cited relevant articles of the Regulation guiding the conduct of the Glo Premier League and subsequently invited some persons for further hearing on Friday, September 13 at the Abuja National Stadium.

In the letter, the LMC quoted exhaustively from the rule books and noted that “Official match reports on the above match indicated that Shooting Stars refused to come out for the second half citing physical assault on the Oyo State Sports Commissioner and their Cameraman as reasons.

“However, nothing in the reports corroborate the claims of Shooting Stars. The LMC is therefore satisfied that the Shooting Stars deliberately abandoned the game”.

In applying the sanctions, the LMC said it was relying on articles 4.2 (2) and 4.2 (5) to fine 3SC the sum of N3m and deducting three points from already accrued points while Sunshine Stars have been awarded 3 points and 3 goals.

According to the letter, ” the action of 3SC is therefore a contravention of Article 4.2 (2) which states that ‘ any Club that refuses to continue with a game for a period of five minutes in a match or till the expiration of full time of either half of the game or walks-off the pitch shall be liable to a fine of N3m only payable before the next match. In addition, 3 points shall be deducted from already accrued points of the Club and also 3 points and 3 goals shall be credited to the opponent”.

To further support the preliminary ruling, the LMC also cited Article 4.2 (5) which states “where a Club refuses to play a match on the ground of inadequate security and the Match Officials are satisfied with the security arrangement, Article 4.2 (2) shall apply”.

“Therefore, in line with Article 4.2 (2) and 4.2(5) of the Regulations guiding the conduct of the Glo Premier League, the match has been awarded to Sunshine Stars, 3 points and 3 goals. Shooting Stars is also to pay a fine of N3m for refusing to continue the match and 3 points will be deducted from the already accrued points of 3SC”, the ruling stated.

It, however added that the sanctions are without prejudice to any further sanctions that may be decided by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in line with provisions of its statutes.

The LMC also said it will continue investigations into the matter and has directed officials of Shooting Stars, Sunshine Stars, Match Commissioner, Center Referee, Ondo State FA Chairman and 3SC player, Gbolahan Salami and the Club’s Cameraman to appear before a panel at the Abuja National Stadium at 10am on Friday, September 13.

3SC: Sunshine fans beat Commissioner, cameraman

SHOOTING STARS of Ibadan management have alleged that the state commissioner for Sports Dapo Lam Adeshina was left in a coma after he was beaten by some fans of Sunshine Stars.

A report monitored on Oyostate Sportsnews informed that irate fans beat their cameraman and damaged his camera; some officials were beaten while the state commissioner for Sports Dapo Lam Adeshina was not speared as he was punched.

According to them, Sunshine stars scored two brilliant goals from Ajani Ibrahim in the fourth minute and Alaba Adeniyi in the sixteenth minute while Taofeek Adepoju pulled one back at the thirty-eighth minute.

After the halftime whistle sounded, someone (suspected to be a Sunshine fan) ran toward the 3SC camera man (Mr Abdulahi) and rained punches on him. His camera was damaged, and a soldier on uniform also added fuel to the matter as he beat Abdulahi with a horse whip, known in local parlance as ‘Koboko’.

Just after the ugly scene witnessed by 90 per cent of the fans in the stadium, Dapo Lam Adeshina was seen lying flat on the ground after an unknown fan (also suspected to be sunshine fan) lunched him a heavy blow. He was rushed to the dressing to room to avoid further punches.

The match officials and Commissioner were kept on the field because of what happened to the camera man and after 20 minutes the officials were guided into the dressing room by Sunshine Team Manager while the security men kept mute.

After about 30minutes, Sunshine players came out from their dressing room for the second half with the match officials and commissioner to restart the game. So, with this ploy, 3SC players and officials refused to restart the second half due to insecurity.

After several phone calls by the match commissioner put through to the LMC, the match was finally abandoned.

The Oluyole Warriors and officials were later guided out of the stadium at about 6:13pm by a police patrol team.

  • Sunshine Stars, 3SC lied, Adeshina too

Sunshine Stars, 3SC lied, Adeshina too

SUNSHINE Stars management has lampooned the Oyo State Commissioner for Sports, Dapo Lam Adeshina for politically interfering in Sunday’s Week 30 game which was abandoned by Shooting Stars after first half score was 2-1.

John Abalaka, the media representative to the Akure Gunners said: “It’s a shame that a commissioner wanted to drag the Globacom Premier League to the mud, and really he politically interfered into the game but his antics and that of his team failed to hold water.

“Let me start by saying that the goals were good ones as Gbolahan Salami started the mild trouble when he lost his cool towards a ball boy immediately after the match official sent the players to the dressing room.

“Knowing him to be hot headed, an official of Sunshine walked up to him and advised that he be professional about his dealings as he can’t spoil the fun of the derby.

“The next we heard was the Oyo Sports Commissioner saying at the VIP Box that his team cannot continue with the game as a missile was thrown at him more so the clubs’ cameraman had been beaten by some thugs.

“A couple of minutes later after enough persuasion from the match commissioner, Patrick Pascal, Adeshina who agreed to allow his team continue with the game, then said the camera had been damaged that it was not long functioning as he feared the life of his team.

“Really and quoting the words of the match commissioner in his post match chat, Adeshina is a kill-joy as he really reduced his office to put the league to disrepute.

“If truly, 3SC claim that their sports commissioner was left in a coma, and their camera damaged, they should please provide evidence.”

    3SC respond to media “attack”

igeria Professional Football League side, Shooting Stars of Ibadan, have reacted to a publication in a local sports paper that listed several allegations against officers of the club.

The side, in a long mail to the press, presented its own side to what it called ‘one sided story’. Here are excerpts from the mail:

“On the issue of Chairman and Board Members Salaries, Shooting Stars Football Club has nothing to do with their salaries, as it was the Government of Oyo State that fixed and pay the salary of all chairmen and members of all Boards and Parastatals in the state including Shooting Stars Board.

“There was no query given to the chairman by the Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, there was never a time anything like that happened.

“As the chairman, Mr. Toyin Akintunde authorizes every payment as a signatory to Shooting Stars Account.

“It is on record that the Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Adedapo Lam-Adesina has nothing to do with Club’s Account, as he is not even a signatory to the Account.

“It is the Chairman and the Club’s Accountant that are signatories to the Club’s Account. This could be confirmed from the Club’s banker.

“The Board headed by the chairman, Mr Toyin Akintunde, recruited and negotiated with the players, with no involvement of the Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Sports whatsoever.”

The Oluyole Warriors are currently embroiled in a battle against relegation.

  • 3SC draw at home again

    3SC draw at home again

The home woes of Oluyole Warriors, Shooting Stars (3SC) of Ibadan, continued at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Sunday, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by ABS of Ilorin in a Glo Nigeria Premier League game.

The tie, which marked the return of Gbolahan Salami from a three-game club suspension, proved to be another futile attempt to distance the team from relegation waters.

Mutiu Adegoke opened scoring when he shot the Stars ahead in the 15th minute. And the Oluyole Warriors held that lead till the break.

But the two-time continental champions could not find a second goal, and ABS, who had been one of the better travelling teams in the NPFL this season, found the equaliser in the dying minutes through Mukhtar Saliu.

  • ‘It may be different stroke for 3sc, Nembe’

‘It may be different stroke for 3sc, Nembe’

It is first sunday of the first day of the new month. While it may pass like any other day for some, some premier league clubs will not want to forget it in a hurry as they look forward to picking vital home or away points to better their lot on the log.

3SC v ABS (Lekan Salami Stadium)

In the first game, Ibrahim Abdullahi’s goal was enough for ABS to take the full points. This is one of the three dogfights this weekend.

ABS have played pretty football but lack steel at the back and against 3SC who have not conceded in their last two home matches, they’ll have to up their game. But 3SC have got enough quality personnel in their squad not to win this.

    Prediction: 2-0

Akwa United v Sunshine Stars (Uyo Township Stadium)

It’s 12 straight matches on the road without a goal for Sunshine Stars. Strikers Dele Olorundare and Izu Azuka have all left for clubs abroad and Ibrahim Ajani is struggling for form so I wonder who will break the goalscoring hoodoo on the road for the Akure Gunners.

Akwa United look good to be all over their opponents from the blast of the whistle. The full points look so assured for the hosts.

    Prediction: 1-0

Wikki Tourists v Heartland (Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium)

This is a six-pointer and also one of the dogfights at the lower end of the table. Heartland have not found the back of the net in five of their last away matches.

It does not and can not be an easy contest for Heartland with the recent form of Wikki trio, Alaba Johnson, Tunde Aremu and Shuaibu Ibrahim. Heartland will be made to work hard but will eke out a point.

    Prediction: 0-0

Lobi Stars v Nasarawa United (Emmanuel Atongo Stadium)

For the first time this season, Nasarawa United scored four goals in a game including Victor Namo hitting a hat-trick. Lobi with a squad full of debutants in the league this season will be wary of their opponents’ newfound form.

Terkaa Melai, Nanen Imenger, Joshua Abanyi, Stephen Eze and Douglas Achive should be able to prove their worth in this dogfight of bottom three teams and give Lobi that lift away from the base of the table.

    Prediction: 1-0

Gombe United v Nembe City (Pantami Stadium)

City won the first of this instalment this season with two goals from Okiki Musampa. But Musampa like other City top stars have moved away from the team in the transfer window which has seen them sit just two points away from safety.

Nembe are likely to drop into the bottom four after this game as Gombe United will be too much for them.

    prediction: 2-0
