Adeboye: If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could be ₦10,000

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, says without divine intervention, the exchange rate could have soared to ₦10,000 to $1.

Speaking during the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye linked Nigeria’s financial struggles to its heavy reliance on fuel imports, despite being a significant oil-producing nation.

He criticised the billions spent on refineries that remain non-functional, forcing the country to depend on imported petrol.

Addressing the contentious removal of fuel subsidies, Adeboye remarked that the decision angered those who had profited under the previous system, further exacerbating Nigeria’s economic woes.

“We need help, and it’s not human help; it’s divine help,” he emphasised.

Adeboye highlighted that the root of Nigeria’s financial difficulties predates the current administration, pointing to the ongoing importation of petrol despite abundant oil resources.

“Before our current President took office, we were aware that the root of our financial issues lay in the importation of petrol. Despite having oil, we continued to import petrol and waste billions on refineries that did not operate effectively.

“When the President cancelled the subsidy on petrol imports, those who benefited from it became upset and created more problems,” he added.

Reflecting on the naira’s rapid devaluation, Adeboye said he turned to prayer and expressed gratitude for others who joined him.

“If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth ₦10,000 by now. This illustrates how much we need prayers,” he said.

Adeboye defends Rolls Royce gift to Oyedepo

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Adejare Adeboye has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Bishop David Oyedepo’s 70th birthday celebration, defending the luxury gifts presented to the Living Faith Church leader.

Oyedepo was giot a Rolls Royce gift  among other expensive and luxury items on his 70th birthday.

Critics questioned the display of wealth, arguing it amounts to prioritising material prosperity over spiritual values.

Reacting to criticism over Bishop David Oyedepo’s Rolls Royce gift, Adeboye said in a video: “Someone gave a bishop a car and some people got very upset that how can a bishop be driving a Rolls Royce? As if once you are a bishop you must die of hunger.

“Let me tell you my beloved children, if you die poor they will blame you; they will say after all these days of you serving God this is how you end? If you can’t pay your rent, they will say where is your God?

“If all of a sudden you start riding a Rolls Royce they will attack you, so which of the two do you choose? They are going to attack you anyway, whether you die of poverty or you live in abundance.”

I didn’t ask Christians to stop tithing – Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has denied claims that he asked Christians to stop paying tithes.

The cleric on Thursday apologised for saying in one of his messages that anybody who does not pay tithe will not make heaven.

However, he said his apology message was misinterpreted stating how surprised he was by how quickly false reports spread online, claiming he had discouraged tithe payment.

Making clarifications during the church’s October Holy Ghost Service on Saturday at the Redemption City on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, Adeboye addressed the misrepresentations that has now stirred controversy among social media users.

Adeboye acknowledged that he apologised for any previous statements on tithing that may have been misunderstood.

He said: “The issue of tithing became contentious, and I decided to apologise for anything I might have said wrong.

“Yet, within an hour, it was being circulated online that I said Christians should stop paying tithes “

He further explained he encouraged believers to give more than the traditional 10 percent, referencing an encounter at Kenneth Hagin’s church where a man shared how his financial situation improved after committing to tithe 90% of his income.

He said: “Today, I’m not close to giving 90 per cent but I am far from 10 per cent. So, I said it is wrong to limit yourself to 10 percent when God can take you to a higher percentage.

“As you grow in the Lord, you should grow in praising Him, winning souls, and in giving.

“I said that for beginners, the minimum is what God calls 10 percent. I said, from now on, begin to increase what you give.

“Of all I said, the only thing they put on the internet is that Adeboye apologised, and therefore, people should no longer pay their tithes. I said 10 percent should be the minimum.”

I apologise for saying no heaven without tithe —Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has apologised for one of his past teachings on tithing.

The cleric had said in one of his messages that anybody who does not pay tithe will not make heaven.

However, while ministering at the ongoing youth convention on Thursday, Adeboye apologised for his position on the issue.

He said: “I am sorry for saying that if you don’t pay tithe you won’t go to heaven. That is not in the Bible.

“What the Bible says is follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man will make heaven.

“It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time. I will prove it to you. For years, we taught that light travels in a straight line. Later we say it travels in waves.”

He however told the youths that it was wrong to have limited people to “10 per cent when some of you should be giving 20 per cent, 30 per cent, etc.

“Ten per cent should be for beginners. Giving should be done violently. If you want to be on top to control finances you will give beyond 10 per cent.”

The RCCG overseer recalled his experience at one of the conventions of the ministry of Kenneth E. Hagin in Tulsa, USA where a man made a promise to give more than all what the 17,000 participants at the convention gave.

He said all participants had given about 3.5 million dollars towards the building of the Rhema Bible College. But the man promised he was going to give more than what everybody gave towards the project.

When Adeboye asked the man the secret of his sacrificial giving lifestyle, he told him how he had started a business with 500 dollars and told God if he blessed him, he would not insult Him with 10 per cent.

Five years after the man started the business, he was making a turnover of $50 million, Adeboye said.

He added: “I am sorry for saying you should pay 10 per cent. If we are going to dominate, we have to give violently.”

  • Keep romance alive in your marriage – Adeboye urges Christians

Keep romance alive in your marriage – Adeboye urges Christians

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has stressed the need for romance in Christian marriages.

In a recent post on his official X handle, Adeboye debunked the notion that Christianity diminishes romance, citing biblical examples.

He referenced Genesis 26:8, highlighting Isaac’s romantic relationship with Rebekah.

Adeboye advised couples to prioritise romance, suggesting gestures like composing poems, surprise gifts, and affectionate nicknames.

He wrote: “The fact that you are a Christian does not in any way take romance out of your marriage. Marriage is the only institution where romance and intimacy is allowed between a man and a woman. Some pastors hardly go on dates with their spouses because they consider such a romantic activity as a distraction from their focus on spiritual matters. Some of them don’t even play with their spouses anymore. Beloved, the anointing does not reduce the need for romance in marriage.

“Isaac was an anointed man of God and a successful businessman, yet in Genesis 26:8,  the Bible says he was being romantic with his wife:

“And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

“Don’t become too rigid in your marriage; don’t have more fun elsewhere without your spouse. Make the times that you and your spouse spend together so much fun that you are always looking forward to seeing each other again. If you are married, remember how you used to talk for long hours with your spouse before you got married and had children; revive that relationship again.

“Your spouse is still the same fellow you were very fond of, and the things you loved in him or her are still there. Don’t let all the cares of this life distract you from the gems in your spouse.

“Once in a while, compose a poem for your spouse and read it to him or her in a romantic setting. Spice things up with pleasant surprises every now and then. Write a note and put it in his or her bag so that when they get to the office and open their bag, they will see the note and smile.

“Have a pet name that you call each other behind closed doors. Up until today, there is a pet name my wife calls me when we are alone. I equally have a pet name that I call her, and every time I call her by that name, she cannot but smile at me lovingly. When we are alone, we are lovers, not Daddy G.O and Mummy G.O. Your marriage can be like heaven on earth if you and your spouse are deliberate about remaining the lovebirds that you were when you first got married. Don’t let the romance die.

“KEY POINT: One of the ways to ensure that your marriage remains like heaven on earth is to keep the romance alive”.

The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a story to caution Nigerians against making decisions that may lead them astray.

In a recent post, Adeboye stated how his enthusiasm for the military led to him being duped, serving as a valuable lesson for his followers.

He recounted how a man, pretending to represent a paramilitary group, approached him with a proposal to become their spiritual leader.

Despite his usual practice of seeking God’s guidance, Adeboye’s passion for the military clouded his judgment, leading him to agree to the role without proper discernment.

The imposter requested funding, which Adeboye provided, only to discover later that the man was a fake.

He emphasised that God makes everything beautiful in His time, and that the pursuit of worldly gains often caused people to miss out on far greater blessings.

“It is not wrong to want to achieve something great or pursue a good cause, but if you try to outrun God, you may never achieve that goal. Worse still, you might lose something very precious in the process,” Adeboye stated.

He reminded his followers that God understood their desires, often placing them in their hearts.

“God knows the best times and ways for those desires to be fulfilled. Don’t think you’re smarter than the One who created your brain,” he said.

Recalling the incident, Adeboye shared how his youthful love for the military clouded his judgment.

“Years ago, I was duped by a man who promised to make me a commandant of a paramilitary group. This man had been contacting me through my secretary for a while, and one day I agreed to meet him. He told me how a Boy Scouts-like group had evolved into a new agency and that he was seeking someone to lead them spiritually.”

Adeboye admitted that he usually sought divine guidance before getting involved in any venture, but this time, he was led astray by his passion.

He agreed to take up the role without consulting God.

The man, posing as a legitimate representative, asked for funding, which Adeboye provided. However, it was later said the man was a fraud.

“I lost money in that experience, but it could have been much worse. God knew my heart’s desire, and He had already planned for Redemption City to have its corps of chaplains and a local police post. I thought I could bring my desire to pass on my own, but I was wrong,” Adeboye confessed.
