    Adefarati spoke at a meeting with APC Ward Chairmen and party leaders in Akoko Southwest local government area.

    Adefarati, who listed out his achievements since he got elected to the National Assembly, appealed to them to begin holding regular meetings.

    He urged them to work hard to woo voters across all political units and wards in the state.

    Aiyedatiwa, Agboola, 15 others make final list of Ondo Gov candidates

    Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajayi Agboola of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Olorunfemi Ayodele of the Labour Party (LP) and Akingboye Benson of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) are among 17 that made the final list of the governorship candidates for the November 16 elections in Ondo State.

    The list of 17 candidates and their deputies did not contain any woman while the candidate of the African Democratic Congress is the only candidate with disability with 35-year-old Adegoke Paul of Youth Party (YP) the youngest candidate.

    A statement by the Commission on Thursday said public campaign for the election would officially open on Wednesday, July 19, 2204 and close 24 hours before the elections.

    A statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun said 17 political parties will be contesting the election scheduled for November 16.

    The statement said that while none of the 17 political parties nominated a woman for the election, the African Democratic Congress nominated a person with disability for the poll.

    The statement reads: “The Commission is pleased to announce the publication of the final list of candidates for the Ondo State Governorship Election. Following the initial primaries, the Commission published the personal particulars of the Governorship candidates and their running mates in the State and Local Government offices.

    “In line with the provision of Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022, two (2) political parties conducted fresh primaries to replace their earlier nominated candidates and their running mates by the deadline of 10th June 2024.

    “The parties are the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) while five (5) parties replaced their running mates only. They are the African Action Congress (AAC), the Action Democratic Party (ADP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

    “Overall, seventeen (17) political parties are fielding candidates for the election. No political party has nominated a female candidate while one (1) candidate nominated by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is a person with disability (a paraplegic). The final list also gives the breakdown of the candidates by age and academic qualifications.

    “The list has been published at our office in Akure and also uploaded to our website and social media platforms for public information.

    “With the publication of the final list of candidates, the next activity is electioneering campaign.

    “As provided by Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, campaign by Political Parties in public shall commence not earlier than 150 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day.

    “Therefore, Political Parties are now permitted to start campaign in public from Wednesday 19th June 2024 and end at midnight on Thursday 14th November 2024 as indicated in items 8 and 12 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election.

    “As parties commence this critical phase of the election, the Commission once again reminds candidates, agents and their supporters of the provision of the law and the Commission’s guidelines governing such activity.

    “For emphasis, parties shall conduct their campaigns with civility and decorum devoid of inciting language, violence, voter inducement and other infractions in accordance with the provisions of Section 92-97 of the Electoral Act 2022.

    “The Ondo State Governorship Election is scheduled to hold on Saturday 16th November 2024”.

    Ondo guber poll: APC in Diaspora drums support for Aiyedatiwa

    The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Chicago, United States of America has canvassed support for the Ondo state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the November 16 governorship election in the state.

    The APC Diaspora chairman, Olawale Ebietomiye urged the electorate in Ondo to return the governor to power to bring the superlative dividends of good governance more closer to the people.

    The APC chieftain in a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday appealed to members of the party including aspirants who contested the last APC primaries to embrace peace and work for the party’s victory.

    He commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for extending hands of fellowship to all the aggrieved leaders, adding that the decision of some of the aspirants to embrace his candidature is a testament to his unique leadership qualities.

    The Ilaje-born politician noted that the governor’s interventions in the last six months have rekindled people’s hope in the ruling APC and they are desirous to renew his mandate.

    He expressed optimism in the candidacy of the governor to deliver victory for the APC, noting that his stellar achievements across major sectors of the economy are visible across all the 18 council areas of the state.

    The statement reads: “As APC members in the diaspora, we are following events at home since the primary of the party in April and we want to state that members should embrace peace to achieve victory for our party.

    “No doubt, there might be some members who were aggrieved over the outcome of the party’s primary, but we should all look towards the bigger picture which is the November election.

    “Let’s embrace ourselves and be united in the interest of the APC. It is an atmosphere of peace and unity that we can achieve all our objectives as members and a political party.

    “Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a peace-loving leader who believes in the spirit of togetherness and he deserves all the needed support at this period from us in discharging his duties for the benefit of all in the state”, it added.

    Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved renovation of the Akure township stadium.

    Other projects approved during the State Executive Council meeting included the construction of a new state judicial complex, improvements of the road infrastructure and construction of the 28km Akotogbo-Iju-Osun road in Irele Local Government Area.

    Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, who addressed reporters after the Council meeting, said rehabilitation of the Akure township stadium was long overdue.

    Yusuf-Ogunleye explained that the renovation would feature upgrading of major facilities in the stadium, including the main bowl and football pitch, basketball courts and swimming pool.

    Special Adviser to the governor on Infrastructure, Pastor Ayoade Babalola, said the 28km Akotogbo-Iju-Osun road would have significant economic value to benefitting communities. According to him, the road will connect the state’s Free Trade Zone bordering Edo and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

    Democracy Day: Aiyedatiwa promises better life for Ondo residents

    Ondo state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has promised to do everything within his power to ensure that the state achieves better living standards for the people.

    Governor Aiyedatiwa stated that there is undeniable evidence that the state is currently undergoing a new trajectory in socioeconomic transformation. 

    This includes extensive statewide infrastructural reengineering and strategic human capital development through systematic filling of existing vacancies in the public service.

    Aiyedatiwa said there were positive changes in all sectors of the state economy through judicious appropriation of state resources in the most resourceful and efficient manner thereby engendering unprecedented facelift, wealth creation, psychological well-being and prosperity across the state.

    He spoke at the inaugural lecture series to mark this year’s Democracy Day with the theme “The State of Democracy in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges and the Way Forward.”

    Governor Aiyedatiwa said democracy is alive in the country .

    He said his administration was focused and committed to prioritising the socio-economic welfare, security of life and property as well as engendering enduring wealth creation in the State as catalyst for statewide prosperity.

    National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Surajudeen Bashiru, who delivered the lecture, urged Governor Aiyedatiwa not to oppose the federal government suit on local government autonomy.

    Senator Bashiru called for a review of the Nigeria constitution to allow states determine the structure of governance at the local level.

    Bashiru identified issues impeding growth of democracy to include electoral integrity, judicial efficiency, good governance, corruption ineffective local government administration and institutional weakness.

    He said the slow pace of reforms and political interference has continued to hinder progress.

    Other projects approved at this week’s State Executive Council meeting and presided over by the Governor included the construction of a new state judicial complex, improvements to the state’s road infrastructure, and the construction of 28km Akotogbo-Iju-Osun road in the Irele local government area.

    Ondo 2024: Edema tackles Aiyedatiwa on local govt autonomy

    Governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Ondo State, Olugbenga Edema, has urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to withdraw the suit opposing the local government autonomy from court.

    Edema said granting autonomy to local government would bring development to the grassroots and enable it perform its constitutional roles as guaranteed in the 1999 Constitution.

    The state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, had raised objections, on 27 grounds, against the Federal Government’s suit.

    But Edema, in a statement yesterday, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government has stifled development at the grassroots by not properly utilising funds accruable to the third tier of government. He admonished residents to resist Aiyedatiwa’s plan to use local government funds for election.

    The candidate promised to grant full autonomy to local government if elected governor in November.

    He said: “The governors who are against local government autonomy use funds accruing to local governments for purposes that are against the law.

    “When elected, I will ensure full local government autonomy and ensure the return of all markets to the local governments. I will also make sure that tenement rate, vehicle stamps, and market rates, and all such legitimate rates collected by the local governments are collected by and utilised by them.

    “I don’t understand why governors see local government funds as a way to enrich themselves and render the council chairmen and appointees useless by taking over their roles and funds.

    “Many staff members in our local governments no longer go to work because their duties have been taken over by the state government, contrary to the spirit and letter of the constitution which guarantees the existence of the local government.

    Aiyedatiwa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the reduction followed approval to pay N35,000 to workers in state-owned tertiary institutions.

    The statement said the payment would run for six months

    According to the governor, inability of the tertiary institutions to pay the award from their subvention necessitated his intervention.

    Aiyedatiwa orders BEDC to stop estimated billing

    Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ordered all DisCos, including the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), to stop serving consumers with estimated billing. Governor Aiyedatiwa asked them to immediately provide their customers with meters.

    He spoke when he rolled out low cost electricity meters, tagged O’datiwa meters, under the Ondo State Mass Metering Programme. He said his order takes effect from June 1.

    According to him, the mass metering programme was in compliance with the Ondo State

    Electric Power Sector Law 2020 Part XII Section 77 (2)(a).

    Governor Aiyedatiwa, represented by the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (SERB), Stephen Bolawole, said all DisCos are expected to meter all the facilities within 12 months with effect from June 1. He urged DisCos to prioritise customers who are served estimated billing.

    A single phase meter under the ‘O ‘Datiwa Meters’ cost N101,750; a three phase meter would cost N185,000, while the Dinrail meter would cost N78,000, all exclusive of VAT.

    “All relevant stakeholders, including electricity distribution companies and consumers should comply with the new pricing structure as specified. DisCos must submit a detailed implementation plan to OSERB within 30 days, outlining their strategy for achieving full metering within the stipulated timeframe.

    “DisCos must provide quarterly progress reports to OSERB detailing the number of meters installed, areas covered and any challenges encountered. BEDC Electricity Plc and other DisCos must integrate the smart meters facilitated by the government through accredited MAPs within six months of the effective date of this order. Failure to do so will result in penalties, including fines and other regulatory actions as deemed appropriate by OSERB.
