    Residents hail Ogun housing initiative

Residents have hailed the Ogun State Homeowners’ Charter, an initiative that allows landlords to obtain property documents at discounted rates.

They said homeowners can now regularise their documents with ease.

Applicants in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government have been trooping en masse to obtain forms at the designated centres.

During a tour of the centres by the Director of Urban and Physical Planning, Mr. Gbolade Badejo, an applicant in Ifo, Mr. Moses Famuyiwa, said: “At the initial stage of the programme, we did not have confidence in its workability because of the ridiculous amount of N95,000 charged for obtaining both Building Plan Approval and Certificate of Occupancy (C of O). But the government has proved that it means well for us. Allowing home owners to pay N95,000 instead of N430,000 to obtain necessary documents for a standard family bungalow of four bedrooms on a single plot of private land is a great relief.”

At Ilo Awela, Alhaja Fausat Gbadamosi described the programme as the first in the state’s history, saying it showed that the Governor Ibikunle Amosun administration wants to make life easier for the people.

Badejo said the programme would enable homeowners to have legal building documents and help the government to build its database for planning purposes.

He said the sale of forms would close on February 28.

“You have to conduct yourselves in an orderly manner. Replicate all you have been taught with good disposition. Our advantage is our interest. As a large family under the umbrella of APC, we should at all times avoid things that distract us. We have a very good chance of being at the Villa in the coming general election.”

    Amosun warns students

The Ogun State Government has warned students in tertiary institutions to desist from cultism and other vices that may truncate the peaceful academic atmosphere being experienced in the schools.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun, gave the warning during the Eighth matriculation of new students into the Institute of Technology, D.S Adegbenro Campus, Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area.

“While the state government will continue to encourage our higher institutions through adequate funding, sanction, however, awaits any student who engage in cultism and other social vises which may distracts you from your studies,” the Governor warned in a statement by the press officer of Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Kayode Oduyebo.

Amosun, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Segun Odubela, however, assured the students that the government will continue to give necessary support to the Institute whenever necessary.

The Rector of the institute, Mr Funsho Olusanya, assured the new students that the management was making efforts to make teaching and learning easy with the construction of more infrastructure.

The institute, which was established as Gateway ICT Polytechnic on February 27, 2006 runs about 10 programmes at both Ordinary National and Higher National Diploma.

Amosun: don’t link me to violence

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has denied involvement in the disruption of a meeting organised by Senator Gbenga Obadara (Ogun Central District) at Wasimi in Ewekoro Local Government Area.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Olusola Balogun, Amosun condemned the violence and regretted the attempt to link him or any member of his administration to it.

He said: “The news of the alleged attack was shocking to me. All leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as chairmen of our local government councils, were in Lagos to celebrate the 75th birthday of our party’s Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande. It is even more curious that some chieftains of our party chose a time meant for honouring our revered leader for another meeting. The motive is certainly questionable.”

The governor said the party’s state leader, Chief Olusegun Osoba, was with him at Akande’s birthday and wondered what the intention of the National Assembly members, who convened the said political meeting, was.

He said: “The alleged thuggery has all the trappings of a stage-managed event, with the aim of attempting to take over the machinery of our great party through subterfuge. But we will not be taken in by such blackmail.”

Amosun said the unity of Ogun APC remained inviolable, adding that everything legal would be done to consolidate on the gains of the past and improve the state.

He commiserated with the victims of the violence, including journalists, urging the police to bring the perpetrators to book.

Ewekoro Local Government Chairman Dele Soluade, who was also accused of being involved in the attack, said he had no prior knowledge of the APC’s meeting until he sent his police orderly to the area.

Soluade said: “As the council chairman, I was not aware that anybody was coming there. When I heard of it, I asked my orderly what was happening there. I had no invitation or information about the event.”

Amosun seeks sustained welfare for families

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has said the best way to remember the fallen heroes is to sustain the welfare of their families and those of officers in service.

The governor spoke yesterday in Abeokuta at a special reception at the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, on this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

He noted that the price the fallen heroes paid was the reason there was peace in the country.

Amosun said: “These heroes, who worked selflessly until they laid their lives, can be better appreciated by remembering their families.

“We should make living better for those who were injured while serving the nation. We have to ensure that the welfare of those in service is catered for.”

The governor urged the Federal Government to promote the welfare of security operatives, adding: “As a responsible government, we will do our best to improve the welfare of security operatives.”

He said the Lawenfa-Ayetoro road, which hosts the barracks, would ease transportation for security operatives and their relatives when completed.

The Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen. David Ahmadu, said the day was set aside to remember and celebrate ex-servicemen as well as officers in service.

He thanked the Nigerian Legion for sustaining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

  • Lawmakers fault Amosun’s second term adoption

Members of the National Assembly from Ogun State, who belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday condemned the process that led to the adoption of Governor Ibikunle Amosun for a second term.

They urged the party’s national leadership to look into the matter and call to order, those trying to circumvent the APC’s constitution, regulations and directive, so that the ongoing transition process in the party would not derail.

Last Monday, some chieftains of Ogun APC adopted Amosun for a second term during at a stakeholders’ meeting at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta.

In a statement yesterday, Senators Gbenga Obadara (Ogun Central), Adegbenga Kaka (Ogun East) and Akin Odunsi (West); and Honourables Olumide Osoba, Segun Williams, Adekunle Adeyemi, Abiodun Abudu-Balogun, Kehinde Odeneye, Bukola Buraimoh and Babatunde Ogunola dismissed the endorsement as a “charade”.

They said the process was faulty and the endorsement “an exercise in futility”.

The legislators said: “How can the endorsement of an aspirant, which is strictly a party issue, become the responsibility of the governor’s employees.”

    Amosun charges Eagles

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has charged the Home-Based Eagles competing in the ongoing African Nation Championship in South-Africa to bounce back from the loss recorded in their first game and do Nigeria proud at the competition.

Nigeria started their CHAN campaign on a losing note when they were defeated by West African rivals Mali 2-1 in their Group A encounter at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night.

In a statement signed on his behalf by the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Lanre Tejuoso, Amosun said by doing so, they will confirm that Nigeria’s achievement last year was no fluke.

While noting that the nation’s football achieved greatly in 2013 with the African Nations Cup trophy, the Under 17 World Cup triumph and qualification for this year’s World Cup in Brazil, Governor Amosun said the ongoing CHAN competition has given Nigeria a good opportunity of starting 2014 on another good note.

He praised Coach Steven Keshi and his assistants for gradually intergrating the home-based professionals into the main super-Eagles squad, and that with dedication and patriotic zeal on the part of the entire contigent the country will reap the benefits of that experiment.

Amosun, who noted that there was a time the Nigerian league was rated the best in Africa, urged the players to use that rating as a platform and beat all their opponents to the trophy.

The governor did not forget to praise the Nigerian Football Federation for their achievements in 2013, and urged the Aminu Maigari-led board and the management of the federation not to rest on their oars, but to always be determined to achieve greater things for Nigeria.

Osoba is our father, says Amosun

OGUN State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has debunked media reports that Thursday’s fracas between some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a fall-out of a competition between him and former governor of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba. “I am not in competition with my predecessors. How can I be in competition with party elders like Chief Osoba. Chief Osoba is our father in the party and there is nobody that is anti-Osoba. We are all pro-Osoba”, he said while addressing news men in his office yesterday. The governor described as unfortunate, the incident which erupted at the APC state secretariat in Abeokuta, resulting in claims and counter-claims of violent attacks between contending groups in the party. The governor said the crisis arose as a result of “communication gap”, adding that ”what we experienced yesterday was quite embarrassing. It is something that could be avoided if we are sincere with ourselves. “The Harmonisation Committee is no more necessary because according to the National Headquarters of our party, this committee should have been put in place about five months ago and since this was not done, they have asked us to go into membership registration. I think the problem is that of communication gap ”, the governor said. Amosun, while also apologising to the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), over allegation of harassment of its members during the fracas, assured that such an ugly incident will not occur again in the state. He said journalists should not be harassed by politicians in the course of going about their lawful duties, describing them as partners in progress.

OGUN State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, will on Monday, December 16, launch the Homeowners charter designed for Ogun Property owners to regularise their land documents. The Homeowners’ Charter is an intervention programme by Ogun State government to ease the acquisition of building approvals from the state’s planning authority for homeowners who register to regularize the documentation of their houses within the six weeks of the launching of the programme. According to the programme, homeowners can also obtain Certificates- of-Occupancy within nine months and at hugely discounted rates if they apply within the six weeks. In a statement, Mr.Gbenga Otenuga, the Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, explained that under the Homeowners’ Charter, the fees homeowners normally pay to acquire building permits and C-of-Os have been greatly reduced. As incentive, the state government is giving discounts of up to 75% on the cost of obtaining documentation for buildings. This underscores the commitment of Governor Ibikunle Amosun to ensuring that as many property owners as possible take advantage of the initiative to regularize the documentation of their houses. Otenuga added that the Homeowners’ Charter is one of the key programmes of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led government to engender urban renewal and development in the state.

  • Amosun inaugurates Advisory Council

OGUN State Governor Ibikunle Amosun inaugurated yesterday the Local Government Consultative/Advisory Council for the 20 local government areas.

He said the council was created to spread good governance to the 236 wards.

Amosun said the council would interface between him and other stakeholders as well as provide feedback on the impact of government policies at the grassroots.

The council would advise the governor on matters affecting the local governments; explain government programmes to the people at the grassroots and monitor projects.

Advising members of the council, Amosun said: “This council must not be seen as a parallel Local Government Administration. You should complement them in the effective administration of local government councils and not struggle for supremacy with the Local Government Administration.”

He thanked the people for their support, which he said facilitated the successful implementation of his administration’s policies and programmes.

Responding on behalf of the Advisory Council, Chief Dayo Abatan assured Amosun that members would replicate his vision in their respective wards and local government areas.
