2027: North Central APC forum endorses Tinubu, Mutfwang

The North-Central All Progressives Congress (NC APC) Forum has reaffirmed its endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027, praising his performance in office.

At the same time, the Forum threw its weight behind Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking over the weekend in Jos, Plateau State, the Forum’s chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, a member of the APC campaign council in the 2023 general election, said, “We are endorsing our President, Bola Tinubu, for 2027 because he is doing extremely well.”

The Nation recalls that the Forum had previously promised to deliver six million votes for Tinubu from the North-Central region.

Zazzaga also announced the Forum’s support for Governor Mutfwang through the adoption of the Green Cap Movement, a group aligned with the PDP governor.

He said the decision followed an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday night, during which members reaffirmed their earlier endorsement of President Tinubu and pledged cooperation with the Plateau State government.

“We have decided to adopt the Green Cap Movement in Plateau because we believe that the time is now.

“Though Mutfwang is of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), we believe that he is doing well and we must support him to excel,” he said.

Reacting to the adoption of the Green Cap Movement by NC APC Forum, the Plateau State APC Executive Committee, in a statement, allegedly condemned the adoption of the Movement by the NC APC Forum while warning that the party will be taking stringent measures against those who adopted the Green Cap Movement.

Following the Plateau State APC Exco’s opposition to the Forum’s decision to adopt the Green Cap Movement for the 2027 governorship election in the State, the Forum urged the State’s APC leadership to demonstrate greater inclusivity and address internal grievances

It also gave the APC State Exco seven days to set up a reconciliation committee aimed at uniting aggrieved stakeholders, particularly elders who felt sidelined.

“We are giving the Rufus Bature-led exco seven days to set up a committee to reconcile aggrieved members of the party, particularly elders and others who are not being carried along.

“The party does not belong to a few individuals; it belongs to everybody and there should be a level playing field for all.”

On claims that the NC APC Forum is not recognized by the party, the Forum’s leadership clarified that it is duly registered and acknowledged at the national level, comprising stakeholders from across the North Central geopolitical zone.

According to the Forum, it has consistently demonstrated commitment to the APC’s growth, pointing out that several of its members delivered votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections, unlike some state officials who, it claimed, did not.

“We will not join issues with people who could not even deliver their polling units and wards for the party and Mr. President during the 2023 election,” the statement added.

The Forum also defended its support for the Green Cap Movement, saying it is not tied to any political party, contrary to claims by the Plateau APC leadership.

Describing the movement as a broad-based call for reform and accountability, the Forum noted, “The attempt to portray the Green Cap as a PDP emblem is both shallow and historically dishonest. The green cap represents a mindset, not a party; a people, not a platform.”

It also recalled that past agitations led by the Forum, such as those calling for the appointment of a Minister from Plateau State, the establishment of a North Central Development Commission, and the zoning of the APC national chairmanship to the region had been supported or ignored by the Plateau APC leadership depending on their interests.

“They are reacting now because they feel threatened that we are trying to woo the governor of Plateau State to join the party,” the Forum stated.

APC woman leader pushes for stronger inclusion of women in governance

The National Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mary Idele Alile, on Friday called for urgent and sustained efforts to increase women’s participation in governance.

She spoke when she led a delegation of zonal and state women leaders on a strategic visit to the Federal Ministry of Regional Development in Abuja.

Alile lamented the low representation of women in Nigeria’s political landscape, citing that only 4.2% of the 10th National Assembly are women.

“This must change,” she declared, urging the Ministry to adopt gender-responsive policies and support platforms that empower women politically and economically.

She unveiled the “774 Explode Initiative,” a nationwide campaign aimed at expanding female political participation in all 774 local government areas.

The initiative is designed to galvanize grassroots mobilization, mentorship, and capacity-building for aspiring women leaders across Nigeria.

According to a statement on Saturday by Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Regional Development, Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Alike said: “We are not asking for handouts, we are demanding fair representation. With strong institutional support, women can be catalysts for the Renewed Hope Agenda and national development”.

Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, welcomed the APC Woman Leader and described the visit as a timely call for deeper collaboration.

He emphasised that women and youth empowerment remain central to the Ministry’s development mandate.

“We are fully aligned with the goal of inclusive governance. Our programs—whether in skills development, rural infrastructure, or medical outreach—are being tailored to meet the specific needs of women, especially in underrepresented communities,” Momoh stated.

He affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the APC Women’s Wing on policy advocacy, program design, and community mobilization efforts that support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Minister of State Uba Maigari announced that the Ministry is currently constructing nineteen (19) 50-bed hospitals across the northern region.

These facilities are aimed at improving healthcare access for women and children and reducing maternal and infant mortality in underserved areas.

“Our goal is to ensure that no woman is left behind in our regional development efforts,” Maigari said, noting that healthcare infrastructure is a crucial part of empowering rural women.

The visit concluded with a shared commitment to forge a stronger alliance between the Ministry and the APC women leadership.

Alile pledged to use her network to amplify government initiatives at the grassroots, while Minister Momoh called on the women leaders to mobilize support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

“Women are the backbone of our communities. Their voices must be heard, their contributions recognized, and their leadership celebrated,” the Minister stated.

The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to inclusive development, gender equity, and sustained collaboration with political and community stakeholders to deliver impactful change across Nigeria.

Opposition lacks unity, ideology, credibility to defeat APC in 2027 – Alawuje

The National Coordinator of the Disciples of Jagaban, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will remain the only genuine and serious political party as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded statement on Saturday, Alawuje said the APC stands tall as the only party with cohesive structure, ideological depth, and national acceptance. He insisted that the upcoming elections will be “APC versus others,” as the opposition is made up of divided interests, personal ambitions, and frustrated elites.

According to him: “Most of these so-called parties are not serious political organizations. They are broken alliances of bitter politicians, desperate for power and driven by personal losses, not national interest.”

Alawuje described the historic political alliance between former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a divine arrangement, saying it was destined and executed by God

“The script of 2015 was written by Almighty Allah — Buhari was meant to lead, and Tinubu was destined to follow. That is not just politics. It is providence,” he stated.

He praised Buhari as a principled and disciplined leader and Tinubu as a master strategist and democrat whose influence cuts across Nigeria’s political spectrum.

According to the Jagaban loyalist, no current opposition leader can match Buhari’s credibility or Tinubu’s political depth.

“Who among the opposition today can stand as Buhari did in 2013 14 and 15 in the North? Who in the South has Tinubu’s record and reach? None. They are politically angry, frustrated, and aimless. Some of them see the leadership of a country like Nigeria as Guguru and groundnuts,” he said.

He likened the opposition to “political zebras lost in the jungle,” adding that the APC, as “the lion,” remains patient but ready to dominate.

“Some will be devoured as breakfast, others as lunch, and some as dinner. The APC is not just a party — it is a movement with clarity and purpose,” Alawuje asserted.

He challenged opposition leaders, calling for a national debate. “Let anyone come forward; I challenge any of them to a public debate. Let’s discuss leadership, vision, and national unity. If they are bold enough, let them face us,” he declared.

He said political parties should be about shared vision, discipline, and service to the people, adding that, today, APC remains the only party where those values still exist, hence other must learn the basics before dreaming of leading Nigeria.

    • EFCC slams Atiku’s aide over claim chairman met S’South gov

It was all excitement yesterday in the All Progressives Congress (APC) following confirmation by Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno that he was firmly on his way to switching camps to the ruling party.

Officials of the APC said they were ready to roll out the red carpet for the governor and his supporters.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which seems to have resigned to fate about losing Eno, dispatched a delegation of its Strategy and Way Forward Committee, led by former Senate President  Bukola Saraki to Enugu yesterday to stave off  mass defection by  Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and the entire South East hierarchy of the party to the APC.

The South East Zone of the PDP had threatened to dump the party should it continue to refuse to recognize  the zone’s nominee for the position of national secretary, Sunday Ude-Okoye as replacement for the incumbent, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The federal government, reacting to  suggestions that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was being used to blackmail governors to dump the PDP for the APC, denied the allegations.

It said defection to the ruling party  by  serving state governors and other office holders would not stop the FG  from acting on corruption cases against such suspects.

Attorney-General of the Federation and Justice Minister  Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) vowed that the Tinubu administration would continue to uphold the rule of law and would not falter in the fight against corruption, no matter whose ox is gored.

The EFCC specifically debunked a statement by Mr. Paul Ibe, a  media aide of former Vice President  Atiku Abubakar that the commission’s  chairman, Ola Olukoyede held a secret meeting with an unnamed politician prior to his recent defection to the APC.

Governor Eno, speaking at a meeting with stakeholders  in Uyo, the state capital on Thursday evening, said his love for President Bola Tinubu and the leadership crisis rocking the PDP were the  reasons for his planned defection.

“For me, it is no longer news that I am leaving the party (PDP). If you don’t know that by now I don’t know what else you know. I am a PDP person, I love the PDP and I want to stay in the PDP but clearly I don’t have a roadmap to be able to guarantee that I will be able to have a smooth sail during the election not because I won’t win the election,” Eno told the stakeholders made up of members of his cabinet, delivery officers and  top officials of  the PDP.

Continuing, he said: ” In this state today, with what we have done even if we contest on a zero party we will win the election. There is no doubt about it. We have worked very hard but you know that at the national level our party is not coming together.

“Every day you hear secretary this and that and so you take your form and send it to INEC, run all the election, perhaps win the election and just on technical ground, because the wrong person signed your form, you lose everything.

“I am not going to be stupid staying to do that. I love my party. In any case, in this state we are running as if there is no party. The only agenda we run in this state is the ARISE Agenda.

“No party in this country has clear ideological differences and I challenge anybody to take that to debate to show me the ideological differences of each party we have in this country. People just move. This is not in America that we have the Democrats and people say we know their ideology.

“Again, I support this President. I know clearly well that this President did not create the problem we are in. And I don’t know how to mince words. I cannot be in the PDP today and support the President of another party. It would clearly be in violation of party guidelines.

“I don’t know how to flip flop so if I’m  supporting the President let me go to where I can say so and stay with things he has done. I don’t want to practice anti party activities. I don’t have the kind of strength that Barrister Nyesom Wike has.”

He asked his commissioners and other political appointees to defect with him to APC or resign their positions.

But he said  political appointees who wanted to remain in the PDP were free to do so except that they would no longer be members of his cabinet.

His words: “I am told that some of you are saying that you will not come, you are free, absolutely free not to join me, but you won’t be in my state executive council.

“So, you better just be prepared to resign the day I announce that I’m moving because you are an appointee and your loyalty is fully to me.

“You can’t be in my cabinet and play anti-party (affairs), It is not possible, it’s not a threat, it is what it is. I won’t beg you to come, you should normally not even expect it.”

An APC official told The Nation last night that  it was another good news from the South South coming so soon after the April 23rd defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, cabinet, the entire PDP structure in the state and the immediate past governor,Dr.Ifeanyi Okowa who was also the presidential running mate in the 2023 election.

The source who is familiar with the defection plans but craved anonymity recalled President Tinubu’s speech at the APC Summit in Abuja on Thursday in which he described the PDP as a sinking ship.

“You don’t blame people bailing out of a sinking ship when there’s no life jacket,” Tinubu had said on the dumping of the PDP by  many of its prominent members. He said he expected more defections.

PDP moves to contain Southeast revolt as Saraki, others meet Mbah

In an attempt to stem the gale of defections from  PDP’s  rank and file, a delegation of the party’ s Strategy and Way Forward Committee, led by a former Senate President,  Bukola Saraki yesterday visited Enugu State to plead with Governor Mbah and the Southeast zone to reconsider their decision to dump the party.

The zonal leadership of the PDP had issued the threat last week to back up their nomination of Sunday Ude-Okoye as National Secretary in place of embattled Samuel Anyanwu.

With Saraki on yesterday’s trip were the immediate past governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson and former governor of Gombe State, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo.

The meeting took place behind closed doors.

The former Senate President said on his X handle @bukolasaraki moments after the meeting that “We didn’t sidestep the issues.”

He added: “We confronted the fractures in our foundation, asked the hard questions, and began shaping a real, workable plan to move our party forward.

“ I believe in the PDP. I believe in what it has stood for and what it can still become, if we’re willing to do the hard, unglamorous work of rebuilding from the inside out.

“The road ahead won’t be easy. It will test us and demand more from each of us. But I leave Enugu more convinced than ever: we have the people, the resolve, and the clarity to rise to the occasion—and to lead again.”

He had told reporters as he stepped out of the meeting that the committee was working “toward ensuring that our upcoming National Executive Council meeting and also likely convention is rancor free and smooth.

“In line with that, we are here in Enugu State to consult with all the leaders of our party, and Gov. Peter Mbah is the leader of the PDP Southeast.

“This is the first state we are coming to, because we appreciate the importance of the Southeast in PDP family,” he said.

The former Kwara governor said that Southeast had played a key role in the formation of  PDP.

“In recognition of that, we are here to consult with Mbah and first commend him on the leadership role he has been playing in the party.

“We commend what he is doing in Enugu State, which is a reflection of what happens when you have a PDP government,” he said.

Saraki said that they discussed how to ensure that assignment given to them was done properly; to enable PDP hold its NEC and convention without rancour.

“This is to ensure the NEC meeting and national convention are rancor free, smooth, peaceful and lay the foundation for the PDP that we all are wishing for.

“So we have had a very good and useful discussion, and we are going away with some of the suggestions that we have and hopefully work on that.

“From what we have seen today, there’s nothing that is insurmountable in the challenge ahead, given the spirit and the commitment of all of us, especially our leaders,” he said.

Defection to APC won’t stop trial of corrupt governors – AGF

Prince Fagbemi in a statement through his media aide, Mr. Kamarudeen Ogundele, said there was no truth in the allegation by Atiku’s aide that the EFCC and the Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, met a former and incumbent governor of a South-South state, 48 hours to their defection to the APC.

The AGF branded  the allegation as contemptuous, and said that although Ibe did not  mention the names of the defectors, “discerning members of the public know those he could have been referring to.”

He said: “However, we wish to state categorically that the allegation is from the pit of hell, and at best, a figment of imagination of Mr Ibe.

“We know as a fact that the EFCC chairman and the Solicitor General of the Federation never met any serving or former governor as alleged by him.

“We appeal to the members of the public to disregard the insinuation as it was a feeble attempt to discredit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration’s fight against corruption.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will continue to uphold the rule of law and will not falter in the fight against corruption no matter whose ox is gored.”

Atiku’s media aide lied ,says EFCC

The EFCC, in its own denial, described Ibe’s allegations as unfounded claims.

The anti-graft agency stated that Ibe bared his mind on sundry theories, conjectures and assumptions relating to opposition politics and defections.

It  said: “His allegations of the Executive Chairman EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede and Solicitor General of the Federation’s alleged meeting with an unnamed governor forty -eight hours before his defection to the ruling All People’s Congress, APC, are patently fabricated and in bad taste.

“Olukoyede has stressed it at several fora that he is apolitical and the EFCC totally wired against partisan tendencies.”

The anti-graft agency urged the public to disregard the alleged meeting with the unnamed governor as it only exists in the imagination of Ibe.

Why New Daily Prime is Nigeria’s most trusted voice on APC affairs

When it comes to consistent and in-depth reporting on Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), New Daily Prime has emerged as a leading authority. Since its inception, the publication has championed credible, fact-based, and context-rich political journalism. In an environment saturated with sensationalism and misinformation, New Daily Prime’s APC News category provides clarity, precision, and perspective—particularly in its coverage of the party’s internal strategies, governance challenges, defections, preparations for the 2027 elections, congresses, caucus meetings, regional expansion in the South-East and South-South, youth and women mobilization, internal reconciliation efforts, and local government election planning.

While many news outlets prioritize headlines and viral angles, New Daily Prime focuses on the motives behind political moves, the implications of policy decisions, and the broader context shaping Nigeria’s democracy. From Aso Rock to Maiduguri, Lagos to Kano, and Sokoto to Bayelsa, our political desk follows APC’s influence and operations with sharp scrutiny and comprehensive field reporting. Through every shift in political allegiance, legislative decision, or state policy update, our team tracks how power flows and how it affects citizens.

The APC is not merely a political party; it is a coalition of diverse interests, regional alliances, and ideological blocs that have reshaped Nigeria’s post-2015 political landscape. Covering the APC’s journey and internal developments means understanding the nuances of power dynamics at both federal and state levels. It requires examining how internal conflicts, shifting alliances, and strategic decisions influence not only governance but also future elections.

A example of New Daily Prime‘s incisive political journalism was our exclusive coverage of the recent wave of defections in Kebbi State. Within 72 hours, we broke the story of three PDP senators—Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki—defecting to the APC following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu. Our inside sources confirmed that the move was part of a larger political strategy aimed at consolidating APC’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Our coverage extended to the ripple effects in the House of Representaives, where two lawmakers from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and one from the PDP formally switched allegiance to the APC. We detailed how these defections influenced the APC’s legislative dominance and affected the balance of power in both chambers. Our journalists contextualized the trend of defections not as isolated events, but as strategic positioning by politicians seeking alignment with the ruling party in anticipation of broader electoral shifts.

In Lagos State, New Daily Prime closely monitored the APC’s preparations for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for 12th July, 2025.

The elections will be conducted in 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). Our reporters covered the party primaries in Ikeja, Oshodi, Epe where several aspirants competed for chairmanship nominations. Despite the adoption of a consensus model aimed at minimizing disputes, over 100 petitions were submitted, prompting the party’s appeals committee to intervene. We followed the resolution process to ensure transparency was upheld, offering readers insights into the complexities of local governance politics.

Our reporting also covered Ondo and Edo states, where recent state elections and primary contests have intensified internal competition and exposed deepening factional divides within the APC.

Our correspondents investigated the implications of these elections on APC’s national strategy, highlighting how local power struggles reflect larger tensions within the party’s national framework. In Edo, for instance, the APC’s internal contest over its governorship candidate revealed emerging rifts between younger reform-minded party members and the established political machinery. These stories offer more than outcomes—they provide narratives of reform, resistance, and realignment within the party’s evolving identity.

What sets New Daily Prime apart is not just what we report—but how we report it. We do not rely on official press statements or secondary sources. Our journalists maintain direct access to top APC figures, including key members of the National Working Committee, state governors, and presidential advisers. This access allows us to uncover the real stories behind political events and present them with context, relevance and depth.

Even as we maintain professional relationships within the APC hierarchy, our independence remains uncompromised. We are not hesitant to question controversial appointments, scrutinize policy failures or expose ethical breaches. Our role is not to endorse, but to inform. This editorial stance is guided by a belief that transparency and accountability are the cornerstones of a functional democracy.

Where others simply report on party defections, New Daily Prime investigates the reasons behind them. We dissect the political rivalries, regional interests, zoning calculations, and the ever-present hand of political godfathers. We contextualize these events in terms of national security, economic planning, and democratic accountability. Our reports often include background analyses, expert interviews, and public reactions to ensure all facets of an issue are explored.

With the APC currently holding 68 of 109 Senate seats and an increasing majority in the House of Representatives, we closely track how this legislative power influences policy outcomes. Our political desk analyses how budget proposals, ministerial appointments, constitutional amendments, and oversight functions are affected by APC’s dominance. Each report is guided by a deep understanding of legislative procedure and its intersection with executive influence.

From the Renewed Hope agenda to subsidy reforms, our team provides detailed coverage of President Tinubu’s economic and political leadership. We explore how Tinubu’s policies are reshaping party cohesion, governance outcomes, and public perception. We also monitor the activities of the APC Governors’ Forum, providing analysis on how their collective decisions align with party priorities and influence regional development policies, as well as how individual governors respond to party directives.

Our editorial board frequently publishes op-eds examining how federal policies are translated—or distorted—at the state level.

While others report the news of the day, New Daily Prime prepares readers for what’s ahead. We offer forward-looking analysis on 2027 presidential contenders, likely coalitions, and emerging political movements. Our political forecasts are based on data-driven projections, historical electoral patterns, and on-the-ground sentiments gathered from our network of correspondents.

Our reporting on APC activities has been recognized by academics, policy analysts, and civic organizations. Our articles are referenced in political science research, used in training programs for young journalists, and cited in regional and international media for their depth and accuracy. At conferences and symposiums, New Daily Prime is frequently acknowledged as a key player in advancing democratic dialogue and media independence.

At a time when many outlets are pulling back due to political pressure or financial uncertainty, New Daily Prime is investing more in original journalism, investigative reporting, and citizen engagement. We are expanding our digital platforms, increasing field correspondents, and launching interactive tools to make political data more accessible to the public. Our new initiatives aim to build civic awareness, foster political education, and empower Nigerians to participate more effectively in their democracy.

Importantly, we are powered by Nigerians. We do not accept funding from partisan interests or foreign agencies. Their support ensures we can keep asking tough questions, sending reporters into the field, and producing journalism that matters. As the 2027 election season draws nearer, the APC’s dominance will face new tests—from within and from outside. Whether it adapts, fractures, or redefines itself will be one of the defining political stories of our time. And New Daily Prime will be there to tell it. We will follow every delegate conference, every strategic endorsement, and every grassroots mobilisation effort that shapes the electoral terrain.

The event, which marked a  step in the group’s push for political inclusion, brought together members of the deaf community, political stakeholders, and disability rights advocates to demand a seat at the table of governance.

The state Chairman of the group, Comrade Onifade Fatai Adisa, said: “We ask for opportunities, not sympathy. There is ability in disability.

“Since the return of democracy in 1999, we have supported the system—voting, campaigning, and standing with our party. But after elections, we are forgotten. We are used during campaigns and then left behind. This injustice must end.”

His remarks highlighted the disconnect between the deaf community’s political engagement and their continued exclusion from decision-making roles within the party and government structures. He emphasised that the group has qualified individuals or willingness to serve, but continues to be sidelined due to systemic neglect.

The event featured contributions from the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State APC Deaf Support Group, Mr. Kingsley Njoku, who noted that the event was long overdue.

“This programme is the first of its kind, and it’s one we’ve wanted to hold for a long time. Deaf individuals are often used during elections as mobilizers and foot soldiers, but once the dust settles, we’re left behind,” Njoku said. “What we need is full integration opportunities to serve in advisory roles, as special assistants, and beyond.”

He said there was the need for consistent awareness and collaboration with political actors to ensure that deaf individuals were not only seen but heard through policies, representation, and appointments.

Adaora Nweke, a young deaf advocate, through a sign interpreter, added: “I feel seen. This kind of programme gives us hope that the future can be different. That one day, someone like me could be in office, making decisions that affect our lives. It’s empowering.”

LP loses another Rep member to APC

Another member of the Labour Party (LP) in the House of Representatives, Sunday Umeha, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umeha, who is representing Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency of Enugu State, said the protracted crisis in LP propelled him to leave the party.

He said the party’s crisis had thrown up three factions, each of which has been claiming to have the legal grounds for the party’s leadership.

In his letter of defection read at plenary by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, the defecting lawmaker said Senator Nenadi Usman, Julius Abure, and Alhaji Lamidi Apapa have continued to lay claim to the leadership of the party, while most party members are confused about the authentic party leader.

Umeha said he resolved to join the APC and team up with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership to provide effective leadership for the country and the Southeast.

But Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda said the constant defection of lawmakers was making a mockery of democracy in the country.

The lawmaker noted that the practice in Nigerian parliament appeared confusing.

He said the time had come to take another look at the constitutional provision on defection and amend it to safeguard democracy in the country. Chinda urged the Speaker to declare the seat of the defectors vacant.

He said a Supreme Court ruling had put an end to the leadership crisis in LP and that there was no basis for any defector to premise their action. The Minority Leader draw the attention of the House to its Standing Order, especially the aspect that deals with the leadership of House standing committees which stipulats that leadership of committees are appointed on party basis.

He said defectors should be made to vacate their leadership positions in committees while the parties that elected them to the House should be allowed to nominate a replacement for them.
