    I’m happy for Skales-BANKY W

IT was a great day last Sunday when former EME artiste, Skales, launched his “Man of the year” album. Skales got signed to Baseline Records, after being ejected by the Banky W-led EME about a year ago, for not meeting up to the label’s expectations.

However, his former boss, Banky W, expressed gratitude to God for making it possible for him (Skales) to finally have an album of his own.

Banky said he was “proud to have played a small part in building Skales’ music foundation,” adding that the singer had “jumped off the ship” but “instead of sinking or swimming,” he flew.

Skales has been able to prove his worth under Baseline Records, since he got signed to the label with hit songs like Shakebody and Jekanmo, two notable club bangers.

That the recent fuel scarcity hitting the country is affecting most Nigerians is no news. But top showbiz promoter and musician, Banky W, is definitely worried about the lack of fuel.

Banky W, who is also the CEO of EME Music, took to his Twitter to express his frustration at the over-a-week dearth of fuel in major petrol stations across the country.

‘This is ridiculous,’ Banky W wrote, obviously referring to the persistent fuel scarcity. He went further advocating that maybe a strike would teach the petroleum marketers a lesson.

‘I wish all of us consumers in Naija could go on strike from buying fuel to give them a taste of their own medicine.’

However, knowing such could be unattainable, the musician and producer in light-hearted tweet to counter the lack of fuel later said, ‘Na to ride bicycle’ and retweeting a comment, ‘Make everybody waka go office?’

Doxy takes shots at Olamide in new single

HE might be new to the Nigerian music industry, but budding rapper and freestylist, Dolapo Oyatomi Junior, aka Doxy says that he is ready to run with the big guns. He made this known in his new track titled Baby, in which he takes shots at indigenous rappers, Olamide and Phyno.

Explaining the rationale behind the move, the young artiste said that Olamide and Phyno, two artistes he respects so much in the rap game “are just too good and I want to rap just like them, but the truth is that Doxy can’t be Olamide or Phyno, just like Olamide can’t be Phyno and Phyno can’t be Olamide,” he said.

The song, Baby, according to the artiste, is all about everyone minding their business because people are gifted differently. He noted that this is one of the laws in the music industry, just like his previous track, My Business.

“Only a deep rap artiste can understand the whole words. The chorus, “I love you, hun Baby, I never wanna let you go,” means loving the gift God has given me and I will never let it go due to the love I have for it. God has given me a gift just as He has given Olamide, Phyno and other great artistes. I have to make good use of it.I know I’m different. I would love to work with both artistes. I also look forward to working with the likes of MI, Vector, Ice-Prince, Don Jazzy, D Banj, Banky W, Praiz, Davido, Wizkid, Samklef, Reminisce and other great artistes.

•Kicks off with concert in Benin

With an unusual bang, MTN Project Fame reality show returned with a spectacular music concert, announcing organisers’ readiness for a 7th edition, last weekend.

The star-studded show featured artistes such as Banky W., Timaya, Iyanya, Dr. Sid, Praiz and other superstars, who took turns to serenade music lovers at the popular Emporium, Government Reserved Area (GRA), Benin City, capital of Edo State.

With the pomp that heralded this year’s edition of the West African talent hunt show, there are indications more surprises await fans.

Iyanya’s enthralling dance steps and voice was exciting to thousands of Project Fame’s fans who attended the concert. So was the energetic performance dispelled by Timaya, and Banky W’s resounding lyrics; both artistes, who were recently unveiled as two of several high-profile MTN ambassadors lived to their billings.

According to Iyanya, “It’s amazing how fame and fortune come quickly. I was just like everyone here in the audience some years ago, but see what Project Fame and MTN has made of me,” he said, recounting his journey to fame and success.

The concert at Emporium, paved way for a two-day audition, organised to enlist music hopefuls at the Constantial Hotel, located on Airport Road. The event witnessed thousands of youths, who sang before the screeners, in order to get a slot for the next stage.

Before last Saturday’s event, auditions were held in other West African countries, where thousands of youth, seeking to build a career in music, stormed the various venues.

Organisers say the rate of participation at the sub-regional level has created high expectation in Nigeria. This expectation may not be short of the fact that the Project Fame Academy has been known to produce stars who have in the last seven years, dominated music industry across West Africa.

Other performers at the Benin concert include MMMG artistes, comprising of Emma Nyra, Selebobo, Bacci, Teckno, and the Project Fame’s past contestants led by Roy.
