    I don’t get well deserved credit in the industry – Davido

    Award-winning singer Davido said that he feels underappreciated despite his significant impact on the Nigerian music industry.

    With a career spanning 15 years, Davido believes he doesn’t receive the recognition he deserves, stating that people often fail to give him the credit he has earned.

    In a recent interview with Egungun, he mentioned that despite his consistent contributions to the music industry, he feels his efforts are often overlooked.

    He said: “I have been conquering the music industry for 15 years, but the crazy thing is that people don’t give me my flowers [credits] that I deserve.”

    However, his numerous awards, including the Artist of the Year and Digital Artist of the Year at The Headies Awards, showcase his influence and success in the industry.

    Davido also acknowledged that while he has haters, their presence doesn’t affect him as he receives love and admiration from fans everywhere he goes.

    Egungun inferred: “Do you believe that you have haters?”

    Davido replied, “There are haters, but when I go everywhere, they love me, so I’m like, where are the haters?”

    Grammy-nominated singer Davido has claimed his father, Dr. Deji Adeleke, earned his first million at 23 and now leads a major energy business.

    In a recent episode of the American podcast Bagfuel Brigade, Davido said his company generates approximately 18% of West Africa’s electricity, supplying it to the government for distribution.

    “My Dad made his first million like 23. Right now, we supply about 18% of the whole electricity in West Africa. 

    ” He sells the power we generate to the government, because the government has the authority to distribute. Ours is just to generate it and the government decides what to do with it,” he said.

    In October 2024, Adeleke revealed that his power plant produces about 15% of Nigeria’s electricity, with assistance from Chinese engineering firms.

    He is also finalising a 1,250MW power plant, set to be Nigeria’s largest, with operations expected to begin in 2025.

    “In Nigeria, I am in the electricity business; I own a power plant, and presently, I generate about 15% of the electricity needs for Nigeria. I have Chinese Engineering companies that work.

    ” I am building and almost completed in January by the grace of God my new power plant to be the biggest power plant in Nigeria. It is a 1,250MW power plant to become operational in January,” he said in part.

    Afrobeats sensation Davido has shared an account of his teenage years, revealing the struggles he faced pursuing his music career against his father’s wishes.

    In a recent episode of the American podcast Bagfuel Brigade, Davido recounted how he secretly set up a studio in his family’s 16-bedroom mansion and eventually fled to London to focus on music.

    During his six-month stay in London, his father reportedly enlisted the help of Nigerian security agencies, including the army and immigration officers, to find him.

    Upon returning to Nigeria, he said he was intercepted at the airport by an army officer and escorted to his father.

    Contrary to expectations, his father welcomed him with a warm hug, expressing relief at his safety.

    He said, “I was living alone with my dad in a 16-bedroom mansion because all my siblings were in America. I had a studio in the house and he didn’t know. A complete studio where I spent most of my time making music and smoking.

    “I left the mansion for about six months. My dad was looking for me, the army, Immigration officers, Every security agency in Nigeria was looking for Dr. Deji Adeleke’s son, which is me.

    “Eventually, I got caught at the airport on my way back from London where I have been staying with a producer friend making music.

    “When I returned to Nigeria, I wasn’t planning to go home. I landed at the airport with the intention to go to a friend’s place — but the moment I stepped out, an army officer walked up to me and escorted me outside.

    “The whole army was outside, like 20 of them and then I saw my dad, hugged him. He was like why did you run away, I said I wanted to do music. I just didn’t know how to tell you”.

    Afropop superstar, David Adeleke aka Davido has motivated his fans after releasing his fifth studio album entitled, ‘5ive.’

    The 32-year-old took to his Instagram page to announce the release of his newest project with a motivational message.

    “Remember that you can do anything you put your mind towards,” he enthused.

    Continuing, the singer said, “5ive is Alive. My fifth studio album is out now. Thank you all for the love and unwavering support, it means the world to me and my team.”

    The 17-track project includes features from artists like Chris Brown, Omah Lay, Victony, Becky G, Shensea among others.

    The Grammy-nominated artist had previously released a few singles, ‘Be There Still’, ‘Funds’, featuring Odumodublvck and Chike. He also released the popular, ‘Awuke’, featuring YG Marley.

    Meeting Chris Brown changed my life – Davido

    Grammy-nominated singer Davido has credited American R&B singer Chris Brown with significantly impacting his career after they met in 2018.

    Speaking in a recent episode of the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, Davido said it all started when a Nigerian friend of Brown’s, who was one of his closest friends, called Davido on Facetime while at Brown’s house.

    According to the ‘Feel’ crooner, his song was playing in the background and when he asked where his friend was, he was told he was at Chris Brown’s house and showed him a video of Brown dancing to his song.

    After the short encounter, Davido travelled to America and met Chris Brown in person.

    He said: “Meeting Chris Brown changed my life. I met him in 2018. He had a Nigerian friend, one of his best friends.

    “The friend called me one day on Facetime and my song was playing at the background, I asked where he was and he said he was at Chris Brown’s house. I was like, ‘What? Y’all playing my music?’ And he showed me Chris dancing to my song.

    “He gave Chris Brown the phone, that was the first time we had a conversation. A few months later, I went to America and linked up with Chris. From the first time we met, we just naturally became friends.”

    Skit maker Shank Comics has denied rumors that his low ratings for Davido’s album ‘5ive’ is due to a personal grudge. 

    Some blogs suggested the ratings were influenced by a past incident involving Kai Cenat. 

    Shank, in a tweet, claimed his ratings are genuine, based on his honest opinion of the album. 

    He points out that he’s previously spoken positively about Davido and even danced to his songs, which contradicts the narrative of a feud. 

    Shank emphasises that he doesn’t hold grudges and would address issues directly if they existed. 

    He  wrote on X: “I just got off some calls. I’m seeing blogs push the narrative about my Davido album ratings that it’s because I have issues with him based on that Kai cenat P. If I had an issue with Davido. I would have addressed it since whatever happened. 

    “Davido and I talked then and it don pass be that. There are too many tweets of me saying good things bout him event after the so called incident.

    ” I don’t want to go into details but I don’t hold grudges with people. If you fuck up, I go tell you. To your face or I just cut you off. You go sha know say I sabi wetin you do. 

    “The narrative is not true, my ratings were genuine from my first listen of the album. Very genuine. I explained on stream, for those on stream that I have no issue with him. There are clips of me dancing to different songs on the album everywhere, why is that not posted on blogs. Negative P sha dey turn una on. All is well. Big love Davido. Gracias, Lit Gang!”

    Grammy nominated artiste David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he would still be part of the entertainment industry even if he hadn’t pursued a singing career.

    According to him, he would likely have worked behind the scenes in the music industry, contributing in other capacities.

    Davido also mentioned that he’s a talented actor and might have explored acting as an alternative path.

    In a recent conversation with content creator, Darryl, the afrobeat star, said: “I studied business marketing, so I would have still been in the entertainment space [if I wasn’t singing] but probably, more of behind the scenes.

    “I am investing in a couple of films this year. Shoutout to my director, Dammy Twitch. We have some ideas, series coming. The film space right now in Africa is going bankruptcy. So, we are definitely going to tap into that.

    “I can also act. I can act for real. I act in my music videos. I acted in music videos like ‘Jowo’, ‘Nwa Baby’.”

    Afrobeats star Davido has shared that he and his wife, Chioma, are taking a break from having more children.

    The father of five explained that he’s not ready for more children at the moment, adding that Chioma deserves time to focus on her career after having three kids.

    He made the revelation during a recent episode of Ride Along With Darryl.

    Davido said: “I don’t want more children now. Me and my wife are taking a break. She needs to get out to work. She wants to do a lot of things like opening her restaurant and launching her spices. I feel she deserves a couple of years off after having 3 kids.”

    The couple welcomed a set of twins, a boy and a girl in 2023, one year after the heartbreaking loss of their first son, Ifeanyi, in a swimming pool accident.
