  • Glo to sponsor Ofala Festival for three years

    Nigeria’s fully integrated telecommunications company, Globacom, will be sponsoring the Onitsha Ofala Festival for another three years.

    The company has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the palace of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.

    Globacom signed a three-year sponsorship deal with the palace in 2011. At the expiration of the first MOU in 2013, the telecommunications giant renewed the contract for another three years, which ended with the 2016 Ofala festival celebrations.

    The renewal of the contract is coming at a time this year’s edition of the popular festival is kicking off with the Umatu Festival where the monarch performed the rites marking the end of the planting and starvation season and the beginning of the period of harvest and plenty for the people of the kingdom. The Obi goes into seclusion immediately after this.

    Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator, Southeast, Mr. Mike Ehumadu, signed the MoU on behalf of the company, while the Ogene Onira of Onitsha, Chief (Prof) Ngozi E. Okafor signed on behalf of the Onitsha kingdom.

    The Obi expressed satisfaction with Globacom on its sponsorship of the festival in the last seven years, and conveyed his gratitude to the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. for his efforts at promoting the cultural values of the Black Race.

    The monarch called on Onitsha people to patronise Globacom, saying that this was one good way to show appreciation for the support the indigenous network had given to Onitsha over the years.

    Phyno, Timaya shine in Akure with Glo Music concert

    Fun seekers in Akure, the Ondo State capital enjoyed one of the best live performances in recent times, when top-rated artistes converged on the South West city for the Globacom – sponsored Nationwide Mega Music show at the weekend.

    Revelers who relished every moment say the Akure edition of the 27-city show which held at the Golden Events Centre, was the biggest musical concert ever held in the city in modern times.

    It was a positive invasion of the environment by stars which the people of Akure and environs may never have had the opportunity to see and experience live, but Globacom, the fastest growing data network, made it possible with the show, which was staged free of charge for the benefit of subscribers.

    Phyno, Timaya, Yemi Alade, Runtown , Korede Bello and Olamide were the stars of the night.  They were simply magical as they mesmerized the star-struck audience.

    Phyno was an improved version of himself during his over thirty minutes on stage. The audience, made up of the young and the young at heart joined the sterling performance by singing every line along with him. His chart busters, Connect, Alobam, Ezege, and Fada fada, were  instant hits with the crowd.

    The   Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Timaya, also showed a lot of class and justified his inclusion on the A-list of Nigerian music artistes, and also justified why Globacom took him on the tour. He took the Ondo people on a musical and philosophical experience they would not forget in a long time.  Olamide showed why he was called the Kings of the Streets . He took the concert back to the streets and engaged the youths with their own language, meeting them on their own turf.

    MTV African Music Awards 2015 and 2016 winner, Yemi Alade, connected in a very special way with the people when she announced to the delight of the audience: “I am your daughter and your sister and I am delighted coming to my roots,  and I thank Globacom once again for this opportunity to see my people; I love you all”.

    She revealed that she was indigene of Ondo State and praised Globacom for bringing her back home.

    “I am happy that Glo brought me back home. If my daddy were to be alive today, he would be happy that his daughter is back home,” she enthused.

    By the end of the evening, the fans went home drenched, but obviously, relished the energy and fun of the concert. Actresses Uche Jombo and Juliet Ibrahim were the Masters of Ceremony, while the most celebrated Yoruba movie star, Odunlade Adekola, made celebrity guest appearance.

    Glo gives free data on Friday

    AFTER launching the milestone Free Data Day, telecoms giant Globacom will on Friday redeem its promiseas it declared the first day of free data, where eligible subscribers will get 200 MB free data to enjoy a free full day of free browsing, chatting, streaming, downloading, uploading, among others

    The company will give Glo customers, who qualify for the package, free data for one full day.

    To qualify, the subscriber has to meet a voice and/or data usage limit within seven days.

    Subscribers must use 100MB plus N150 on voice calls or N250 on voice calls between Friday, 4 to Thursday

    All the subscribers, who load and use prepaid data within the period and those who use their existing data plan will enjoy the free data day.

    Customers will be notified when they have qualified for the free data day.

  • Glo’s Prof. Johnbull kicks against discrimination

    Professor Johnbull, the Glo-sponsored TV Drama Series will this week focus on genetic flaws in people and the attendant discriminations they suffer in society.

    The erudite professor is calling on people to embrace the physically-challenged in the society.

    Titled ‘Not One of Us’, the sitcom comes up on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes, tomorrow by 8.30 pm, with  a repeat broadcast at the same time and on the same channels on Friday.

    Globacom, in statement said the “new episode aptly titled ‘Not One of Us’ is a wakeup call to all on the need for us to show not just respect to those with genetic flaws, but to most importantly regard them as normal human beings and accord them the decent treatment they deserve”.

    The statement assured viewers that “they will find the episode emotional, challenging and, more importantly, educating, as the crew collectively disabuse the misconceptions surrounding the physically challenged in society”.

    Viewers will find answers to the following pertinent questions and others in ‘Not One of Us’: Is a man’s intellectual ability measured by the size of his body? Do dwarfs and albinos possess any magical power as many believe? Does Flash possess any positive quality besides his rascally postures?

    Ekpoma students laud Glo Mega Music tour

    Students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, have praised Globacom for bringing the Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour, to the university.

    The show, which had toured 14 other locations before coming to AAU, paraded music stars such as Olamide, Phyno, Flavour, Runtown, and Omawumi.

    Axterix, a new R & B discovery, was also at the show and opened the event.

    After the show, a cross section of the students showered praises on Globacom for making the evening a memorable one for them with the array of showbiz stars who performed.

    The president of the university’s Students Union Government (SUG), Comrade Cletus Oribhabor, commended the company for deeming it fit “to bring this world-class show to our campus free of charge to the delight of our students and members of the university community”.

    Also speaking after the show, Caring Ogbegie, a student in the Department of Microbiology of the university, said, “in my three-year sojourn on this campus, I have never witnessed this type of show and guess what, when the SUG guys said all these stars would be coming, I for one never believed them”.

    Their thoughts summed up the feelings of the students as the telecommunications outfit literarily brought the roof down on the fun seekers who  gathered at the Cordelia Agbebaku Auditorium.

    The show attracted a large crowd of students and other residents of the university town. Besides the five A-Listers, there were other artistes who added glamour to the evening. Nollywood divas, Uche Jombo and Ebube Nwagbo, were the anchors, while Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) led two other movie stars, Angela Okorie and Victor Osuagwu, to make celebrity guest appearances at the event.

    The auditorium was filled to capacity, and the organisers of the show had to provide a giant screen outside to enable those who could not be accommodated in the hall to be part of the fun.

    Axterix and Runtown performed in quick succession before handing over to an alumna of the university, Omawumi. She received special applause, and was followed by the Nabania crooner Flavour who capped his performance with his ‘Finally’ hit track. The duo of Phyno and Olamide, the King of the streets, treated the audience to a collabo performance.

    In his opening remarks, Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator, Mid-West, Augustine Mamuro, said the company will continue to meet their needs.

    “This show is at no cost to any of you here and this goes to show how we value and celebrate our subscribers,” said mamuro.

    “In the Globacom family, our subscribers are kings and queens and I can assure you all that we shall continue to attend to your telecommunications needs. Nobody does it better than Globacom.”

  • GLO LAFFTA FEST BRINGS KADUNA ALIVE

    CONTINUING in its tour of the country, comedy show, Glo Laffta Fest, made a stop at the Northern city of Kaduna, bringing with it all the thrills and glamour.

    Guests led by the former Governor of Kaduna State, the Dallatun Zazzau, stormed Castle Event Centre, venue of the show.

    Artistes who entertained the audience included Kaduna’s leading light in comedy, Saeed Muhammad, popularly known as Funky Mallam and comic stars such as I Go Dye, Gordons, Acapella, De Don and Senator.

    I Go Dye, Acapella, Senator and De Don were particularly exceptional on a night of uncommon laughter and merriment, conducted by some of the industry’s masters.

    De Don shared a funny story of his experience with a beggar in America when he last visited.

    I Go Dye touched on a variety of topics, including sharing his own perspective on why Nigerians are being deported from other countries. The reason, he jokingly opined, is to be found in the wording of the passport’s preface.

    To pep up the show, Kannywood star, Sani Danja, made an appearance, receiving a rousing reception. He was accompanied by Nollywood legend, Kanayo O. Kanayo and accomplished Nollywood comic, Victor Osuagwu.

    The delectable duo of Nollywood actresses, Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Uche Jombo compered the show while DJ Xgee provided danceable tunes to the delight of the audience.

    Other dignitaries at the event were, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero and his wife, Hajia Fatima Mukhtar Yero and Representative of the current governor of the state and Special Adviser to the Governor on Creative Art, Hajia Halima Idris, Air Vice Marshall Chris Okoye and his wife, Faith Okoye; Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Daniel Amuze Danauta; Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Dr. Manzo Daniel, chief executive officers and private sector heavy weights, among others.

  • Business school alumni hail Glo

    The Lagos Business School Alumni Association the (LBSAA) has praised telecommunication Globacom, for its unalloyed support for its activities.

    Alumni President and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Mrs. Bola Adesola was particularly pleased with the telecom’s support for its 25th annual President’s Dinner held on Sunday.

    According to her, it is noteworthy that Globacom continued to support the association despite the economic situation in the country.

    Globacom entered into an agreement with LBSAA in 2016 to be the exclusive telecoms sponsor of the dinner for five years, and the 2017 edition, which is the second in the series, was attended by about 1,000 people from Nigeria and the Diaspora.

    The event, held at New Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, is the highest profile annual event organized by the association, and was attended by professionals from all walks of life, captains of industry who are products, relations and friends of the prestigious institution.

    LBSAA constitutes an important part of the Lagos Business School community, because it is through its alumni’s activities and involvement that the LBS achieve its long term objective of propagating excellence at the workplace.

    Globacom said it was proud and excited to partner a high profile association. It lauded members of the association for their invaluable contributions to nation-building, through the promotion of productivity, professionalism and corporate excellence in the economy.

  • Glo greets Muslims

    Nigeria’s foremost telecommunications operator, Globacom, has extended congratulatory messages to Muslims across the nation on the successful completion of this year’s annual one month-long fast, called Ramadan.

    The operator in a statement urged Muslim faithful to inculcate the lessons learnt during the fast to make a positive impact on their neighbours and the larger society.

    The firm prayed for the country’s progress.

    Globacom encouraged all Muslims to use the opportunity of the celebration to pray for the peace, unity and growth of the nation as well as to fully imbibe the tenets of Islam as taught by Prophet Mohammed.

    ”We wish all our Muslim brethren a very happy Eid-el-Fitri and we pray that the Almighty Allah will grant their prayers for peace and progress of Nigeria”, the company said.

    ‘’It is a season of charity, peace-making and forgiveness. We must use this season to remember to care for the poor and the needy in line with Allah’s injunction to be our brother’s keeper,” Globacom said.

    Globacom said it would provide a platform for all Muslim subscribers on its network to enjoy this year’s Sallah through its Islamic value-added offerings like the GloAdhan, Daily Prayers, Daily reflection, Islamic Digest and Hausa Islamic Services.

    Glo takes ‘Laffta Fest’ to Uyo

    Living up to its promise of providing unlimited fun, humour and dance, Glo Laffta Fest, penultimate Sunday, held the residents of Uyo spellbound.

    Held at the Emerald Event Centre, Uyo, the show featured six top comedians who entertained the audience to no end.

    The show was flagged off by Patrick Onyeke, popularly known as Mr. Patrick, renowned for his thought provoking online skits, who treated the audience to a series of slap-stick humour and wisecracks.

    An On-Air-Personality and entrepreneur, Acapella, was the next act and he posted the best performance of the night sharing hilarious personal anecdotes that got the audience reeling in laughter with his top notch delivery.

    Daring Dan D’Humorous who has been a regular on the Glo Laffta Fest show also had a very good outing and his vintage performance was followed by Gordons, Bovi and Basketmouth, who headlined and brought the show to a close.

    Earlier, well-dressed Uyo residents arrived the venue of the show as early as 2pm, creating carnival-like atmosphere and the deejay, DJ Lambo welcomed them with delightful music.

    The show also featured guest appearances by Kanayo O. Kanayo, ‘homeboy’, Bishop Imeh Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos and RMD which greatly delighted their fans.

    Up – and – coming acts, such as General Odey, Emmaralo, British Pastors who travelled from their base in Aba, and MC Josy, among others whetted the appetite of attendees before the main acts.

    Among those who graced the show were the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, a member of the House, Nse Ntuen, a political stalwart in the state, Paul Ekpo, Commissioner  for Transport and Petroleum Resources, Orman Esin and a Special Adviser to the Governor, I.E Ekong, among others.

    Other cities that will host the show in the weeks ahead include Ibadan, Awka, Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Ajah, Asaba, Aba, Suleja, Kubwa, Ibadan, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, Ekpoma, Kaduna, Akure, Lokoja, and Anyigba.

    Glo chief: SMEs backbone of economy

    National telecommunications operator, Globacom, has restated its commitment to the growth of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country, describing them as the economic catalysts for the leading nations of the world.

    The company said at the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce’s 2017 African Foods and Products Conference which it sponsored over the weekend that it would through its cutting-edge products and services support SMEs to help drive the economic recovery of the country.

    In a presentation made at the two-day event, which had in attendance small and medium business owners from various sectors of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, information and communications technology, Globacom stated that SMEs had the capacity to drive technological change and growth in the economy.

    “They are the real catalyst in private sector’s development,” Globacom added.

    Mr.Tega Agofure of Glo Business Solutions who made the presentation observed that 90 per cent of the manufacturing and industrial sectors in the country fell under SMEs, adding that the International Finance Corporation had also affirmed that 96 per cent of total businesses in Nigeria were driven by the SME sector.

    He explained that SME Flexi was one of the company’s advanced solutions that could assist the growth of SMEs in Nigeria, adding that the company would soon energise other core business solutions that would bring about the needed transformation in the SME sector.
