  • GLO THRILLS WITH ALL-STAR SHOW IN LAGOS

    THE ovation was loudest in Lagos, when indigenous telecoms company, Globacom, berthed its 2017 Glo Mega Music nationwide tour in the city of excellence last Sunday.

    Described by fun seekers as an evening of unlimited fun and total entertainment, the show featured top-rated artistes, led by one of Nigeria’s biggest acts, Innocent Idibia, aka 2Baba.

    Anchored by Nollywood actresses, Mercy Johnson and Ebube Nwagbo, the show which held at the KFA Marquee, was attended by thousands of Lagosians who were treated to the best of Nigerian music and exciting side attractions.

    The show paraded other rave artistes, including Boss of YBNL Nation, Olamide Badoo; Igbo ethno-rapper, Phyno; “Woju” exponent, Kiss Daniel; Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Timaya; Afro-Pop diva, Yemi Alade; Dancehall master, Runtown and Marvin Dynasty prince, Reekado Banks.

    2Baba who was cheered onto the stage by the mammoth crowd gave a very good account of himself, dishing out different tracks to the delight of the guests, who were either singing or dancing along with him.

    Timaya who was the next act on stage, put up an exciting performance. The hip-hop and afro-beat musicians’ rendition of his popular tracks, including ‘Call me Timaya’, ‘Babalawo Power’ and ‘Bang Bang’ wowed everybody.

    Woju exponent, Kiss Daniel also had a very good outing. He held the audience spell bound all through with popular tracks like ‘Woju’ as well as ‘Sofa’ and ‘Nothing Dey’. At a point, he started delighting the crowd by throwing his fez cap, jacket and his trainers intermittently to the cheering crowd.

    Glo Ambassador, Phyno performed at the show and moving swiftly from one track to the other, he delivered tracks like ‘E Chop My Money’, ‘So Far So Good’, ‘Financial Woman’ and ‘I Don Suffer’ alongside other tracks which the crowd chorused all through.

    Afro-Pop diva, Yemi Alade Yemi Alade was another star of the evening; reeling out different tracks from ‘Charlie’ to ‘Tangerine’, ‘No do me’, ‘Kom Kom’, ‘kissing’, ‘Ferrari’ and ‘Taking’, she dazzled the crowd with impeccable choreography and perfect delivery of the tracks.

    Runtown also gave a good account of himself with hit tunes while Reekado Banks kept the hall alive with songs like ‘Katapot and Oluwa ni’ which got the guests dancing.

    The last act of the Night was King of the street, Olamide Badoo who “killed” the show with popular tracks that appeal to virtually all the guests. From ‘Skekelobose’ to ‘Shakitibobo’, it was Olamide all the way.

    Speaking earlier, Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator, Lagos and Ogun States, Mr. Akeem Kazeem, thanked subscribers for their loyalty over the years, adding that the shows were the company’s way of expressing its immense gratitude to them.

    Glo takes Laffta Fest to Yenagoa

    Telecom service provider, Globacom, last Sunday treated residents of Yenagoa, Capital of Bayelsa State to another edition of its comedy show tagged Glo Laffta Fest.

    Defying the rains, fun-loving residents of the city trooped out in numbers to witness performances by top comedy icons.

    The show has been receiving rave reviews as the country’s biggest comedy show so far.

    The show opened with up and coming acts such as home boy, Emmanuel Debegene, aka MC Emmaralo; Don Wizzy, British Pastors, Barrack King and G-Bones who set the mood for the more resourceful comedians who later performed.

    De Don, who is a Lagos-based comedian and on-air-personality, was the first of the celebrated artistes to mount the stage, followed by Seyi Law, who was making his first appearance on the show.

    Next in line was Senator, the Delta State-born comic who gave Bayelsa women something to cheer about when he joked that they are so street-wise that no man could take advantage of them even if they (the women) were drunk.

    Other performers include Dan D’Humorous, 2CanTok as well as Gordons who was the indubitable lord of the night.

    The exciting show was anchored by Nollywood star actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie.

    In a dance competition which was one of the highlights of the show, Gift Osareme got the crown and a goodie bag for her performance while  Simeone Soroghaye, a worker and part-time student walked home with the winning prize in the male category.

     The presence of Nollywood actors, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Angela Okorie, who were celebrity guests at the event, provided additional excitement at the show.

    Comedians live up to ‘Waffi’ spirit at Warri Glo Laffta Fest

    The Warri edition of the Glo Laffta Fest comedy show which held penultimate Sunday at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Warri, was nothing but a re-enactment of the ebullient Waffi spirit of the oil rich town, as the comedians on duty received  a rousing ‘Waffi’ reception from the mammoth crowd which spilled outside the hall.

    Led by the Warri-born joke merchant, Bovi, comedians such as Gordons, Dan D’Humorous, De Don, Frank D Don and Arinze Baba, were cognisant of the rule of ‘Waffi’ engagement that the crowd would never tolerate any dull moment.

    Playing the home advantage card, the Warri crowd reserved a special “Waffi warm reception” for its own people including Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), who is of Urhobo and Itsekiri descent,  Bovi, who shares Abraka and Ukwani blood, Gordons and De Don.

    The crowd also warmed up to Arinze Baba, Asaba boy, Frank da Don and Dan D’Humorous. However, Arinze Baba gave the most dramatic session as he laced his performance with music. His brilliant rendition of Osondi Owendi, a track by the late Chief Osita Osadebe, got him a standing ovation as he exited the stage. The show also featured up and coming acts, including fast-rising Warri-based comic, Emmanuel Debekene, popularly called Emmaralo, Kelvinsapp, Young Chief and Ericardo who all gave a good account of themselves.

    Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, was also present.

    A high point of the night of fun piloted by delectable actresses, Mercy Johnson and Ebube Nwagbo, was the calling up on stage and presentation of goody bags by Globacom to mothers who wore green attires midway into the show.

    Subscribers who participated in dance competitions were also rewarded with goody bags. In the ladies category, Janet Nwachukwu, Lilian Ukwamefune and Hope Ogodogun emerged winners while  Kelvin Sunday, Godson Ogaga and Emmanuel Sunday won in the men’s category.

    Warri was the fifth stop in the nationwide comedy show that has held in Port Harcourt, Abuja, Enugu and Owerri. Over the next five months, Glo Laffta Fest will go to other major cities including Awka, Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Ajah, Asaba, Calabar, Aba, Suleja, Kubwa, Ibadan, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, Ekpoma, Kaduna, Akure, Lokoja, and Anyigba.

    Glo treats Awka to exciting Easter show

    It was a fun Easter for Awka residents as telecommunications giant, Globacom, had its debut edition of its Mega Music Nationwide held in Awka, Anambra State last Saturday.

    The show which held at the Marble Arch Event Centre was compered by Nollywood actresses, Mercy Johnson Okojie and Ebube Nwagbo.

    Opening the show was Di’ja, who, during her performance, introduced  Thelma, an Igbo ethno-rapper, who also impressed the audience. Omawumi came next with the full ensemble of her band and  performed her hit tracks including kokoma, What a Bang Bang, Bonsue, Somori and As I Dey.

    Next was Runtown who took the tempo of the show higher as he performed his songs including Fijo Gbowo, Emergency, Bend Down Pause, Walahitalahi, Superwoma n and Mad Over You. He was followed by Yemi Alade, whose electrifying performances of her songs – No do me, Kom Kom, Kissing, Ferrari, Taking over me, Charlie, Tangerine and Pose caused much excitement. Timaya came on her heels immediately with his  Dem Papa signature tune  which dazzled the crowd further following  with  I concur, Overdose, Money no dey, closing with Won fe pami.

    Closing the show was Olamide, who, for over 40 minutes, dished out some of his hit songs like Jeje lomo eko, Introduction, How are you, Oh baba, Alowo majaye, Don’t stop, Skekelobose shoki, Eledami and Omo abule sowo.

    Nollywood legends such as Patience Ozokwor, aka Mama G, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), and the lead character in the TV Series, Professor Johnbull, Kanayo O. Kanayo, also made celebrity appearances. RMD who stepped on stage to tell the crowd about Glo Café application also mimed Phyno’s ttrack, Fada Fada, simulating some dancing steps which sent the crowd into a frenzy.

    The Secretary to Anambra State Government, SSG, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu; Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), Hon. Kenneth Okonkwo, and the MD/CEO of Anambra State Broadcasting Service (ABS), Nze Uche Nworah also graced the event.

    Local artistes in Awka like Emiboizy, Titilaptop, Emkizzy, Tonero, Videch and Zyryes, also got a chance to showcase their talents to the delight of their fans. Two Glo subscribers, who previously competed in the online engagement activity vide hash tagged #glosings60seconds, Endless Pella Iyke and Chief Priest, employed the platform to demonstrate their talents.

    The Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour will berth in Owerri, Imo State, at the International Conference Centre on Saturday, April 22.

    To  attend the Owerri show or any other of the remaining 26 shows, organisers say subscribers are expected to recharge up to  N2,000 within one month and text MUSIC and preferred location to short code 207, for example, “MUSIC Owerri’ to 207.

    Telecommunications giant, Globacom has announced the take-off of its flagship shows – Mega Music Nationwide Tour  and  Laffta Fest Comedy Show.
    Organisers say while the mega music show will start at the Marble Arch in Awka, Anambra State, on Saturday, April 15, Laffta Fest will be held at  the Aztech Event Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Sunday, April 16th.
    In a statement issued in Lagos, Globacom explained that the threshold for entry had been slashed from the initial N3,000 usage in the previous month to N2,000 to give  ample opportunities to youths to participate in  the shows.
    Nigeria’s top-rated  musicians, including Olamide, Timaya, Runtown, Di’Ja and Omawumi will feature at the Mega music Tour while the Glo Laffta Fest will parade Africa’s  most accomplished  comedians, including Gordons, Basketmouth, Bovi, Salvador from Uganda, Bash, Arinze Baba and Princewill.
    Delectable trio of Juliet Ibrahim, Mercy Johnson and Ebube Nwagbo will anchor the shows with leading showbiz personalities  such as Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Mama G, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Funke Akindele  making guest appearances.
    The shows are scheduled for 27 cities in the country over the next six months. Other shows slated for April include Glo Mega Music Tours in Owerri on April, 22, Asaba on April 29 and Calabar on May 6. Also, the Glo Laffta Fest will hold in Abuja on April 23, Enugu on April 30 and Owerri on May 7.
    To attend the Glo Mega Music Concert, the company enjoined subscribers who have recharged up to N2,000 in the month prior to text ‘Music’ and their preferred location to a short code, 207, while for the Port Harcourt Laffta Fest Comedy show, interested customers should   send ‘LOL Port Harcourt’ to short code 240.

    Glo’s 54-city concert kicks off with #Stay Buzzin Parties

    The much anticipated mega shows by indigenous telco, Globacom, kicked off with superlative parties in five Nigerian cities, signaling the fun to be expected during the six-month-long festival of music and comedy.

    The company had earlier announced its readiness to give back to its customers, through a music and comedy road show that will have its celebrity artistes perform in 54 cities for the next six months.

    Tagged Glo #Stay Buzzin, the kick-off parties which held last Friday in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Benin and Port Harcourt simultaneously drew youths and other fun lovers who savored the evening with entertainment superstars.

    Ahead of the shows, starting on April 7, the company also used the parties to introduce Glo Cafe, an app designed for all categories of telecom subscribers, particularly students and youths. The App, described as a one-stop telecom solution, offers games, videos, music, sports, entertainment and e-commerce.

    “Glo Cafe is not just an entertainment portal, but it also helps customers recharge data and airtime, e-top up, as well as maintain their account status, among other values.  It can be downloaded by existing subscribers by sending Buzz to 288,” he company said in a statement.

    In Lagos, the show was held at the House of Haze near the University of Lagos. Students of the school and those from the Yaba Polytechnic came out in large numbers and their thirst for fun was assuaged with good music  and rich doze of comedy from Omni, Whalemouth and humour merchant,  Bovi, who anchored the show. The atmosphere was further electrified when mega star and King of the Street, Olamide arrived the party.

    Olaniyi Opeyemi, president of the Faculty of Arts students, University of Lagos, said after the show: “I had a whole load of fun tonight. Well packaged show and I give kudos to Globacom for thinking about the welfare of the youths. The Glo Cafe App and the shows will really improve our social, educational and financial life. Glo is indeed representing the Nigerian dream.”

    Beginning from April 7, for the next six months, indigenous telco, Globacom, will run a festival of 54 mega music and comedy shows in 54 cities across the country.

    Tagged, Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour,  the concerts will feature the  crème of the nation’s  music industry just as Glo Laffta Fest, a comedy event, will showcase accomplished African  humour merchants.

    Artistes that will perform on the tour are Olamide, Flavour, Runtown, Omawumi, Yemi Alade, PSquare, Phyno, Timaya, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Di’Ja and  Kiss Daniel.

    And the comedians that will perform are Gordons, Basketmouth, Bovi, Salvador from Uganda, I Go Dye, Dan D Humorous, Bash, Seyi Law, Omobaba, Acapella, Senator and Helen Paul. Others are Osama, Princewill, Mr Patrick, Frank D Don, MC Tagwaye, Kenny Blaq, Funky Mallam, Arinze Baba, 2CanTalk, Maleke, Still Ringing and AB Simple.

    While Benin city will host the debut  Glo Mega Music Concert on Friday, April 7, at the Best Western Hotel, Etete Layout, Benin City, the first Glo Laffta Fest will hold  at the Eko Hotels Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday, April 9.

    Globacom explained that the two shows will run concurrently mainly on Saturdays and Sundays, with the Glo Mega Music Concert holding on Saturdays, and Glo Laffta Fest show on Sundays.  The shows will also  hold in Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC and Ajah all in Lagos; Awka; Owerri; Asaba; Calabar; Enugu; Aba; Port Harcourt; Suleja, Kubwa and FCT, all in Abuja; Ibadan; Ijebu Ode; Abeokuta; Ekpoma; Kaduna; Akure; Lokoja; and Ayingba.

    “We are running the spectacular shows as a way of saying thank you to our teeming subscribers across the country for their loyalty, support and abiding faith in the Glo brand over the years,” said Globacom in a statement in Lagos.

    “We are proud to say that never before has any corporate body assembled this array of stars for a six-month music and comedy shows like Globacom has done for the two shows.”

    While the trio of Juliet Ibrahim, Joselyn Dumas and Mercy Johnson will anchor the shows, Nollywood stars like Kanayo O. Kanayo, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Ebube Nwagbo, Funke Akindele, Odunlade Adekola, Sani Danja will add pep to the shows.

    “The shows are specially designed to celebrate and reward our teeming subscribers and to demonstrate to them that we will spare no efforts at delighting them at all times as they are the reason why we are in business,”  the telecommunications giant added.

    Subscribers desirous of attending the show are required to use N3, 000 one month preceding each show and text “Music” and their preferred location to 207. A subscriber who wishes to attend the Ibadan event for example, should text “Music Ibadan” to 207.  Subscribers wishing to attend the Glo Lafta Fest shows are also encouraged to use N3, 000 before the show and send “LOL” to a short code, 240.  For example, any subscriber who desires to attend the Ijebu-Ode show should text “LOL Ijebu Ode” to 240.” The organisers said.

    A national telecommunications operator, Globacom, has offered subscribers an opportunity to get a free 4G LTE smartphone when they buy a special LTE data plan on the network.
    The company said in a statement that the offer, which is expected to excite telephone subscribers in Nigeria, would enable Glo subscribers, who did not have 4G smartphones to enjoy the exceptional speed of the advanced Glo 4G network.
    It explained that a subscriber who buys a 75G LTE data plan for  N75,000 will get a smartphone worth N75,000 with exciting features such as 13 Megapixel camera, dual SIM, a 5-inch screen and 2GB RAM.
    For a 60GB 4G data plan for N60,000, Globacom said the subscriber would get an eight megapixel 4G smartphone worth the same amount absolutely free, while a 48GB data plan worth  N48,000 will give the subscriber a 5 Megapixel camera smartphone worth the same amount, also free.

  • Glo unveils Flexi Recharge for calls, data services

    Globacom has introduced a new product, Glo Flexi Recharge, which permits subscribers to use data and voice without paying separately for fixed data and voice bundles.

    The company said the Flexi Recharge offers customers credit for calls and internet-related services, which means that its subscribers will no longer need to purchase data bundles for internet connectivity and another for calls.

    “With Glo Flexi Recharge, subscribers will get data benefit by default. Subscribers do not need to worry about buying data plans. Once they are on Glo Flexi Recharge, they will be able to make calls, send SMS, browse, or use social media network platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram etc, just like subscribers who purchase data bundles. We have made data access very simple for our customers”, Globacom said in a statement.
