    Gunmen kill four, injure scores in Plateau

    Gunmen on Tuesday night killed four persons and injured many others in an attack in Kayarda village in Namu community of Plateau State.

    The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Council Christopher Audu Manship, who confirmed the incident, visited the victims.

    Manship, who was accompanied by top Council management,  Security Chiefs in the Local Government Area, assured security agencies were already working round the clock to unravel those behind the crime.

    He noted that his administration will not allow criminal elements to create more  pain and  hardship for residents.

    The village head of Kayarda said his subjects were still in shock and grief over the incident.

    Reps condemn gunmen attack on Southern Kaduna community

    The House of Representatives has condemned the attack by gunmen on Ambe Community in Sanga local government area ot Kaduna State which led to the death of six members of one family. 

    The House wants the Inspector General of Police to urgently deploy more Police officers to the community to prevent break down of law and order. 

    Adopting a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Daniel Amos (PDP) Kaduna, the House also wants the IGP, the Chief of Army Staff and Director General of the Department of State Services to collaborate and ensure the culprits Involved are brought to book. 

    It asked the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide food and non food item to the affected victims.

    Moving the motion, Amos said around 7pm on Sunday, May 5, 2024, two gunmen arrived Ambe on the outskirts of Gwantu, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state on 2 motorcycles. 

    He said the gunmen attacked a family celebrating the birthday of their aged father, killing six people and injuring many. 

    According to him, the youths of the area summoned courage and apprehended one of the gunmen with his motorcycle and handed him over to soldiers on special duty at Gwantu. 

    He said some of the victims are receiving treatment at the University Teaching Hospital Jos while residents of the community were still traumatised over the losses from the attack.

    Gunmen kill three staff of Okomu oil palm in Edo

    Gunmen on Tuesday killed three staff of Okomu Oil palm Company in Ovia Southwest Local Government Area of Edo State while working on the plantation.

    The Public Relations officer of the company, Fidelis Olise, confirmed the incident and noted the firm had been enjoying a cordial relationship witb the host communities.

    Olise informed the incident was immediately reported to Edo Police and expressed optimism that justice would be served.

    Edo Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, stated more policemen had been deployed in the area to forestall a repeat of the attack.

    Adegboye described the incident as shocking and wondered why gunmen from the creeks of an unnamed neighbouring state could carry out the attack.

    He assured that efforts were on to arrest the perpetrators and make them face the full wrath of the law.

    Gunmen demand N900m ransom over kidnap of 13 in Abuja

    Residents of Piko, a remote community in the Bwari Area Council of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were thrown into panic when suspected gunmen invaded the area and allegedly kidnapped 13 persons.

    It was gathered that the deadly operation which occurred at midnight Sunday in the community, lasted for over one hour, without any challenge from either the vigilance group or other security agencies.

    A close source to the community said that the Maidakin of the community, Chief John Jatau has confirmed that 10 residents were kidnapped from his domain, including 4 nomadic Fulani herdsmen.

    He noted that out of the four Fulani people, one escaped from the kidnappers’ custody.

    While he said that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N900 million Naira, he also gave the names of the kidnapped victims from his community.

    According to him, the following people were kidnapped from his community and are still with their abductors, Nuhu anyiwoyi, Emmanuel Nuhu, Danjuma Ali, Parisa Numa, Ezekiel Jatau,

    Shekwosa Ezekiel, Roseline Samuel, Salome Jacob, Abyelo Ezra, and Ezra Male.

    The source said: “The kidnapping incident occurred last night Sunday 05/05/2024, at about 11 pm. The kidnappers raided  the village for about one hour without any response, or reaction from the community or outsiders, the major challenge the community faced last night in terms of communication with others was a result of no telecommunication network in the village, so they picked people’s house to house,

    From the community, they picked about 13 people and later released three.

    “The Madakin Piko informed me that they have called and they said they need the Ramson of 900,000,000 (nine hundred million). They picked about four Fulani people and one of them is released”

    The FCT Police Command Public Relations officer, Josephine Adeh who was contacted through phone did not respond to either phone or text messages.

    Gunmen abduct father, son in Ondo

    Kidnappers operating along Owo/Benin axis have abducted a man identified as Maliki and his 12-year-old son, Jethro.

    The man was taking his son to resume at the Navy School, Imeri when they were abducted.

    Sources said the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N10m.

    Ondo Police spokesman, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the incident, said the Police have begun collaboration with the Navy to ensure release of the victims and arrest of the kidnappers.

    JUST IN: Gunmen kill Aiyedatiwa’s campaign coordinator

    The campaign coordinator of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Supare, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo state, Alaba Abbey, has been shot dead.

    Late Abbey was shot dead on Saturday evening at his residence in Supare.

    He was the Returning Officer for the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Ondo state.

    Abbey was also the ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), in Ward 10 in the locality.

    The elder brother to the deceased, Samuel Abbey, said the assailants struck at about 9 pm shortly after his brother returned home while relaxing in front of his house.

    The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council (LACO-FSIC)-SF, which condemned the murder of its members, urged security agencies to give protection to its members across the state.

    The information director of the organization, Kayode Fasua, said the deceased was actively involved in campaigning for the election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa until his untimely demise.

    He said: “Excel had been a resourceful coordinator for the Aiyedatiwa campaign organisation in Ward 10 of Supare and was never known to be violent and never had any history of a local or domestic dispute.

    “We urge the police authorities to step up investigations into his gruesome murder and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.”

    BREAKING: Gunmen attack checkpoint, burn patrol vehicle

    Gunmen on Thursday attacked a police check point along the Abakaliki -Enugu Highway, setting a patrol van belonging to the Police ablaze.

    The incident happened at Ishieke junction at the outskirts of Abakaliki town.

    Sources in the area claimed the gunmen killed one police officer and abducted another but this could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.

    Police spokesperson in Ebonyi, Joshua Ukandu confirmed the attack.

    He, however, denied knowledge of the killing or abduction of any police officer saying reports from the scene were still sketchy.

    “An incident happened this morning but I am still trying to put the details together. At this point, I can’t confirm much, let me get my facts right.

    “I just got an information that there was an attack at that point but I don’t have any other information,” he stated. 

    The incident came barely three weeks after four police officers and two civilians were killed in an attack on another checkpoint at hilltop junction.

    Gunmen kill another lawyer in Imo

    Gunmen have murdered a Port Harcourt-based legal practitioner, Garricks Anyanwu, in his home town Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of lmo State.

    It was learnt on Tuesday that the decomposing body of the lawyer was found in the bush on Friday April 5, 2024 after he was missing for four days.

     It was also gathered that he will be buried on Wednesday, April 10.

    Announcing his demise on his official BarristerNG, a friend of the late lawyer, Chukwuemeka Mbamala, said: ”Garricks Anyanwu was my classmate at Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu, a class of 2003 set.

    “We are calling on the authorities concerned to fish out the assassins of our late colleague Garricks Anyanwu.

    “It is unfortunate that lawyers have become a dangerous species in our society. Every day, either a lawyer is kidnapped and killed assaulted by the police or assassinated. Enough is enough. May his soul find peace.”

    Chairman of Imo NBA,  Allinor Oguchukwu confirmed that he had heard of the incident.

    “I have heard about it. I have detailed my colleagues to find out the actual cause of the death. I learnt he is of Port Harcourt branch,  I have been trying to get in touch with the chairman there,” he said. 

    Imo Police spokesman Henry Okoye was yet to respond to enquiry at the time of filing this report.

    Gunmen kill 30 security volunteers in Niger State

    Gunmen have killed 30 members of a volunteer security outfit, Yan sa Kai, in an ambush in Dogon-Dawa community in Mariga local government area of Niger State.

    The security volunteers and the gunmen clashed on Saturday morning and while chasing the gunmen the volunteers were ambushed in the bush.

    The ambush resulted led to hours of gun fire exchange, resulting in casualties on both sides.

    It was gathered that there were casualties on the part of the gunmen though there was no account of how them were killed.

    The Chairman of Mariga local government area, Abbas Kasuwar Garba confirmed the incident calling for intervention and investigation of the State Government into the issue.

    Niger Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached when contacted.

    Gunmen attack residence of Benue federal lawmaker

    Gunmen in the earlier hours of Sunday attacked the Makurdi  residence of member representing Logo- Katsina Ala -Ukum Federal constituency Hon.Solomom Wombo

    Sources told The Nation the lawmaker was not at home during the attack. 

    Benue Chief Whip Hon. Bemdoo Peter Ipusu condemned the attack, describing it as evil and barbaric.

    The Katsina Ala West representative wondered why anyone would want to cause harm to Wombo, who he said has been offering quality legislation and attracting developmental project to his people.

    Ipusu thanked God Almighty that the gunmen did not meet the federal lawmaker at home and encouraged Wombo not to be distracted in anyway by those who do not mean well for his constituency as well as Benue State at large.
