Ondo poll: I am the best, says Jimoh Ibrahim

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, lawyer, prominent businessman and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State is gazing at the primary with optimism.

He is taking his message of hope to the nooks and crannies of the Sunshine State, consulting with stakeholders and mobilising potential delegates.

The primary will not be a walk over, but only men of strength will survive. Apart from Ibrahim, other contenders are Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, former Finance Commissioner Wale Akinterinwa, eminent doctor Paul Akintelure, Chief Olusola Oke (SAN), Dr. Soji Ehinlanwo, and Major General Ohunyeye. All the contenders are from the South District.

Ibrahim had placed his hand on the plough when he informed the former party leader, the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu about his intention to run. Since then, he has been up and doing, planting his ‘Aseyori’ structure, targetting delegates and convincing the people that, with him as candidate, Ondo APC will retain power at the Alagbaka House, Akure, the state capital.

Ibrahim, who spoke with reporters on his plans for the state, said as the most educated  among the aspirants seeking the ticket, he would use his knowledge, skills, experience and networks to fuell the fire of development.

He said he needed to use his nine degrees and brain to help Ondo, adding: “I think this is time I have to really sort out human problems in this state. My programmes are very straightforward. We are to create moral efficiency and moral knowledge and making the body more efficient.”

On security, Ibrahim said: “We must also map Ondo State borders for security networks and then, to ensure that we will never have any cases of kidnapping, by making Amotekun a classic unique security outfit that will come with good strategy to challenge any security issues in our state.

“So, one of the areas we are looking at is to ensure that everybody in Ondo state can go to sleep with their eyes closed and that’s top most of our priority. Mapping every system, the tactical operations of Amotekun have to come more distinct into technology, I want an Amotekun that is IT informed because I have PhD in War.

“And if we have security first, if we can be secured individually, we will secure the state. So, I’m saying now that the Amotekun will have highest attention in terms of information technology, I am an expert in security, I may not wearing military uniform. When I becaome the governor, we must have residence card, we will know all your data. So, in this election, we are giving out 600,000 Aseyori card.

“We need to do more of IT, our government will ensure that Amotekun is IT compliance through strategy and renovation and is going to be well funded to ensure that people of Ondo State can go and sleep.”

Ibrahim also promised to preside over a government, saying that it is the key to employmentgenerationHe said the people should expect the bitumen act that is being packaged in the Senate, which is now at the third reading.

He added: “Also in the North, we are going to do swap contracts. We are not going to spend kobo to do our roads. Also, the civil service will be very top instrumental that will run the government to ensure that they are computerized. We are to devote powers to Commissioners to make them powerful so that they will not be running after the governor for any approval.”

Ibrahim has refrained from typical politics of acrimony and character assasination. He said he is in the race by right, adding that he prefers to engage the people with his manifestos instead of recourse to politics of bitterness.

He said:” I don’t run any aspirant or candidate down. I only face the programmes that I want to do. So, I have already completed my research programme in Cambridge on how to win election and research signal to be that you don’t run until the last minutes. So I used my money to fund my strategy to win the Senate election and I wasn’t taken to any court.”

Ibrahim said Ondo State will be a reference point, if elected as governor.  Hesaid: “After the primary, there would be a booklet on what we will do in the first six months, one year and so on. It is not necessary that I need to go and meet NEPA before Ondo State can have light.

“At the Cambridge where I studied for six years, we generated our electricity by winds and solar, so we have solar farms there and others. So there are so many ways to get electricity. We might decide to map the state entirely to have electricity.”

The name of Ibrahim rings bells. It is also a resistance to intimidation and timidity. Peeping into the nearest future, he said the shadow poll will separate the wheat from the chaff.

He said: “The idea of primary is not something that we can start thinking from negative, and I don’t fear primary and I don’t lobby anybody. I don’t go to say give me direct primary. Either direct or indirect primary, no problem. If it is indirect primary, we will come with new strategy, strategy are never ending. We are not against anybody, but come to the field you will meet me there.”

Ibrahim commended his supporters for their unwavering support for the party. He said the wisdom that made them to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last year will enable them to also choose wisely in Ondo State.

I will usher Ondo into radiant future, says Jimoh Ibrahim

Business magnate and senator representing Ondo South district, Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim has promised a radiant future for the state.

He made the promise during his visits to the 10 wards of Ondo East local government area on Wednesday.

A statement by his campaign Organisation said he was received by elated party leaders and members in the various wards.

Ibrahim, who is seeking to fly the ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the November governorship election, took his campaign to the wards, accompanied by former minister Tayo Alasoadura, the Chairman of Aseyori Organisation, the body driving the campaign.

Others on Ibrahim’s entourage are a former Speaker of the Ondo state Housrmen of e of Assembly, Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun; eight erstwhile members of the Assembly, five former commissioners and 18 former chairmen of local government areas.

Addressing party faithful at every stop, Ibrahim said: “With unwavering spirit, l stand before you, bearing tidings of good hope. Never shall your toil for the party be in vain for l shall be the venerated governor who shall guide our beloved state towards a radiant future. ”

He commended them for their unwavering support for the party, particularly during the February 25 presidential election of last year in which they voted massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Alasoadura, in his address, extolled APC members in the local government for their unwavering commitment to the progressive cause.

He extolled Ibrahim’s mental acuity, saying that it is what the state needs to elevate it to the zenith of excellence.

A youth leader in ward 7 of the local government area, Ogunfu Felix said in Oboto village that this was the first time in his active political life that an aspirant would visit his community.

Felix said: “For two decades l have been in politics yet never before has the resplendent light of a gubernatorial aspirant graced the precincts of our village. This unprecedented visitation has bestowed on me a newfound sense of purpose.”

The visits to Ondo East wards bring the number of wards so far visited by Ibrahim and his Aseyori campaign Organisation to 107. There are 203 wards in the state.

  • My goal is to transform Ondo, says Jimoh Ibrahim

My goal is to transform Ondo, says Jimoh Ibrahim

All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo State Senator Jimoh Ibrahim spoke with reporters in Akure, the state capital, on his plans for the state and chances at the primary.

Some say that your visits to  LGAs and wards to meet with APC members are a waste of time and resources

    What is your reaction?

People who say this have contempt for APC members in the grassroots. The members are the owners of the party and repository of power. They will determine the flag bearer of the party in the Ondo governorship election. I am meeting them and explaining my plans for the state to them. I will never take them for granted. People who have nothing to offer can do that, but l will never. The members have seen me, heard me and are excited about my plan for the state. Everywhere we went we were warmly received. People who say that our visits are not necessary probably think that they can impose themselves on the party. They will get the shock of their lives. I have raised the awareness of APC members state-wide. They are enthusiastically waiting for the primary of the party.

The visits must have shown you certain things that you didn’t know about the state.

Certainly. We need to focus on the rural areas. Many of them lack basic amenities. I will liaise with the local governments to improve the standard of living of rural dwellers. They need good roads to move their produce to the urban centres. They need amenities: functional health centres, good schools as many in the different communities are dilapidated; they need rural electricity, among others. Development must get to them. I will not focus only on the big towns in the state.

It was clear from my visits that our people are sincere in their support for the APC. What they don’t like is to be taken for granted, to be dictated to. They are also yearning for good leaders. They don’t want self – serving, visionless, unfocused and unprincipled persons to lead them.

Realistically, why do you think the APC will pick you as its candidate?

I am qualified, in fact, the most qualified. None of those being speculated as aspirants can match my educational track record . I have the blueprint for the development of the state in my head. I have explained part of the blueprint to our members at the grassroots. I have a track record in business and well grounded in investment and  corporate turn – around. Ondo state, with its rich human and natural endowment, should be one of the leading states in the country. This is my goal: to transform the economy of the state.

You are regarded as an outsider in the party. Until you became a senator you were not known as a strong member of the APC

That was what they said when l was running for Senate. They said l will be defeated in the primary, but l won. The election came, l again won. I have been a member of the party but doing my things silently. I supported our late governor massively but didn’t need to mount the roof top to say so. I challenge whose who believe that they own the party to do what I’m doing and see if they will be warmly received. When Asiwaju was running, I was deputy director of Finance for the campaign.  I was chairman of the APC building committee of our party. Who is a party man more than me?

I am the first to win election into the Senate for APC. The party never won the Senate in Ondo South until I contested for it.

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo South) has distributed bags of rice to residents of his constituency.

The bags of rice were part of palliatives provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to cushion the effects of the economic downturn during the Yuletide.

The lawmaker Ibrahim announced last December that the palliatives were yet to be procured and supplied by the contractors in charge.

He explained the bags of rice had just been delivered and decided to distribute them as carefully apportioned by a committee

The billionaire business mogul handed down N1 million to transport the palliatives to different locations in the district.

Ondo 2024: Why it should be Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim

    • By Tope Akeredolu

There is a realization that the people of Ondo State must come into an agreement like an epiphany, a revelation sent to direct our path. It is the understanding globally that there is unprecedented economic uncertainties and hardships occasioned by many factors chief among which is the COVID 19 pandemic of the years ago and its attendant negative effects that are still being felt by the third world economies.

Economy, the world over are looking to leaders with the prerequisite expertise as the direct go-to for short and long term solutions to these uncertainties.

It is the understanding that I believe should inform our choice for governor. The primary concern of our people should be to elect a competent leader; someone with the vision, the desire and actionable knowledge to drive an economic ecosystem that will open new frontiers for further economic prosperity.

This is where distinguished Sen. Dr Jimoh Ibrahim CFR comes in, trained in the best universities in the world, he has the combination of both book knowledge and practical expertise to turn the state around.

I have always maintained that a leader should have the following qualities in my opinion to be considered good and worthy of the confidence and vote of the people.

Successful goal getter: The Yoruba would say that if a man says he desires to sew you a new dress, please do well to check what he is wearing. Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim CFR is a goal getter who through the combination of hard work, determination and grace of God is today one of the richest men in Nigeria, a status he attained even as a young man. He has demonstrated the capacity to bring Ondo state into generational prosperity.

Constant self improvement: A good leader must have the hunger, the desire and thirst for constant and consistent self improvement. This is necessary to get him updated on the emerging realities of our ever changing world. This is why I believe Jimoh Ibrahim CFR has not stopped learning. He is a man that is prepared and ready. He is always on the go ready to take on any topic because he is vast and well read.

Goodness of the human spirit and generosity: No matter how good a man is, if he is not generous, he would not see the need to carry out people’s oriented programmes. A man that is given to parsimony is not a man worthy of leadership. Sen. Dr Jimoh Ibrahim CFR is a philanthropist who has has been touching lives for decades till now with his personal resources. Imagine what he would achieve with our state if elected.

A leader must be exposed, exposure is as important as formal education if not more important and of all the aspirants, Sen Dr Jimoh Ibrahim is the most exposed. He currently sits as chairman Inter-Parliamentary relations in the Red chambers of the National Assembly which is a direct testament to his status as a global player. He features in the world stage amongst the one percent of leaders of thought and global policy shapers. In Jimoh Ibrahim, we have a medley of all the qualities of a great leader in their right proportions.

Ondo 2024: I told Akeredolu about my ambition before he died, says Jimoh Ibrahim

The Senator representing Ondo South senatorial district, Jimoh Ibrahim, has said that he informed late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu about his desire to govern the state from 2024.

Senator Ibrahim said he informed the late Akeredolu in the presence of the former First Lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.

Ibrahim said: “I told Aketi before he died in the presence of his wife in their house in Ibadan when they came back from Germany that I want to contest for the governorship election and he said I should go ahead and that he would support me.”

Speaking at a media parley in Akure, the Ondo state capital, Senator Ibrahim expressed optimism that his ‘Aseyori, breakthrough’ strategy would give him victory at the party primary and in the main election.

Senator Ibrahim said he remained the most educated and qualified among all the aspirants seeking the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ibrahim said he would not defect from the party if he lost at the primary.

He stated that he needs to use his nine degrees and brain to help Ondo state.

The senator added: “I think this is time I have to really sort out human problems in this state. My programmes are very straightforward. “We are going to face infrastructural development by making sure that we create employment through that. So we should expect the bitumen act that I’m moving at the Senate, which is now at the third reading to be more prominent and classic in engagement.

“Also in the North, we are going to do swap contracts, we are not going to spend kobo to do our roads. Also, the civil service will be very top instrumental will run the government to ensure that they are computerized. We are to devote powers to Commissioners to make them powerful so that they will not be running after the governor for any approval.

“Olusola Oke and I didn’t have any agreement about any election, whether I will run for governorship or not. And I have already have my strategy to win my election without anybody. I even sent a text message to him about this and he replied me my brother the past is gone and you know how things went. So, if I’m contesting in 2023 now, it is my constitutional rights to do so and if I didn’t do so, it is my constitutional right again to support the right candidate of my choice.

“Oke is my brother and I don’t run any aspirant or candidate down. I only face the programmes that I want to do. So I have already completed my research programme in Cambridge on how to win an election and research signal to be that you don’t run until the last minute. So I used my money to fund my strategy to win the Senate election and I wasn’t taken to any court.

“After the primaries, there would be a booklet on what we will do in the first six months, one year, and so on. “Maybe the death of Aketi has enhanced my chances because Aketi is a human being, he can be subjectively objective at the last minute. But now that he is no more, that possibility is written off completely. So whoever is there, wants to run for governor will meet me at the field.

“So Aketi’s death doesn’t affect my chances at all, but it would enhance my chances to win the governorship position of this state. So we are working seriously to win this election. And the President will never say that we should go and work for the incumbent governor. He can only appeal that maybe he prefers one person if you can prefer him and if you cannot go and do your election. So the President cannot say that I have taken this person so all of you should go and sit down. Even Buhari who is very clueless about anything can never do that.

“I don’t use people’s names to campaign, my campaign are very proud of my work. I’m not a desperate politician, I only want to help my state, if I get it I will develop the state and if you give me to somebody else I’m not going to die. So we are combing the strategy.

“And if I’m not contesting in this election, then my support to anybody is based on your credentials because I am an academic person, if people are doubting your ordinary school certificate it would be difficult for me to support you. We are talking about the development of the state at this time around because things are bad. People get degrees but they don’t have jobs, they are just roaming about the streets.

“I want to develop Ondo state, I just want to contribute and if it is not possible no problem, you get your destiny from where you go to. Aketi is no more now.

“And the idea of primary is not something that we can start thinking from negative, and I don’t fear primary election and I don’t lobby anybody, I don’t go to say give me direct primary. Either direct or indirect primary, no problem. If it is indirect primary, we will come with new strategy, the strategy are never ending. Ondo Guber: Jimoh Ibrahim waxes stronger, intensifies consultative tour in 203 wards

Senator representing Ondo South District, Chief Jimoh Ibrahim, is waxing stronger in his campaign for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He has intensified his camo in the 203 wards.

Ibrahim’s campaign train is electrifying as it rolls into towns, villages, and hamlets, with people, big and small, flocking to the affable, down-to-earth, and generous philanthropist, who has revved up the APC machine in Ondo State.

The state is in the news because of the impending battle for nomination in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The picture of the Sunshine State in the post-Rotimi Akeredolu period is emerging.

Although the former governor who passed on last year after a protracted illness is yet to be buried, gladiators have returned to the drawing board to strategise over the ultimate succession.

Ibrahim is from the South Senatorial Districts, to which the APC governorship may be unofficially zoned.

The forthcoming primary poll of the APC  in April promises to be an interesting contest, as other aspirants are also from the district.

They are Governor Aiyedatiwa, the eminent accountant and former finance commissioner, Wale Akinterinwa; Chief Olusola Oke (SAN), former Secretary to the Government, Princess Oladunni Odu and Ife Oyedele, an engineer.

Ibrahim is however waxing stronger and forging ahead with his campaign across the entire wards in the district. His political agenda is around key pillars of education, health, job creation, and infrastructure.

A statement from his campaign office said he will embark on “a whirlwind tour” of the wards to explain that a new, progressive, and prosperous Ondo is possible.

His campaign team said:  “He(Ibrahim) has plans to extend to the wards, the palliatives he distributed to the APC executive members and additional leaders in each local government. All the 27 executive members of the APC in each ward and an additional 10 leaders from every ward are expected to benefit.

“The ward consultative tours will provide Ibrahim a platform to showcase his achievements in the relatively short time he has been in the Senate, better understand the needs and expectations of Ondo people, and outline his vision for the future.”

The empowerment of the 203 wards commenced in Okitipupa local government. Ibrahim visited Igbotako Ward 1 and 2, Erekiti/ Ijuodo Ward, and Ilutuntun Ward 1, 2, and 3 this week.

To disburse the financial palliatives, ‘Aseyori Leekansi managers, drawn from the localities, are complementing the mobilisation drive.

During last year’s presidential poll, President Tinubu recorded the highest number of votes from Ondo South, winning 65 wards out of 66 wards. The result of the last ward in the district was canceled.

Last year, Ibrahim gave back to the zone in appreciation and feted no fewer than 600,000 APC leaders and members.

The Secretary of APC in Okitipupa Council, Otekaye, an engineer, said:” As nothing stopped President Tinubu from becoming the president of Nigeria, nothing can stop Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from becoming governor of Ondo State because it is glaring that the people want a leader who can harmonise their resources and bring prosperity. No aspirant possesses as that mental magnitude to let the Sunshine State arrive at the junction of prosperity than Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.”

Unmoved by whatever other aspirants are doing or may do next, is forging ahead with his ambition, with resolve, focus, clarity, and optimism. He is bracing up for a unique popularity test, taking his message of renewed hope to the nooks and crannies of the state.

Ibrahim, fondly called Araba by his vast admirers, has intensified mobilisation in the state. He is breaking new ground daily as his message of hope resonates with the people’s aspiration for a better life.

The aspirant has visited the 18 local governments. In the second leg, he is currently on a tour of the 203 wards, starting from Ondo South District, where he hails from.
