The nurse
Star actress Iyabo Ojo has launched herself in the forefront of #JusticeforMohbad. She has also said that the police have arrested the nurse who treated the artist before his demise.
“The police have made some arrests [in connection with Mohbad’s death]. The nurse has been arrested. That I know. That’s the only information I can give you right now. They have arrested some people. They are asking some people to turn themselves in,” she said.
The arrest of the nurse, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, has raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s passing. The police have been tight-lipped about the specific details as at the time of filing reports.
In a separate development, a delegation from the Senate paid a condolence visit to Mohbad’s grieving mother on Thursday, September 21 in Lekki, Lagos. The senators expressed their heartfelt condolences and promised their support to the family during this difficult time. Mohbad’s mother, overwhelmed by grief, thanked the senators and called for a thorough investigation into her son’s death.
Senate delegation
Senator Elisha Abbo visited Mohbad’s family alongside Nollywood stars Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh. During the event at the singer’s family home in the Lekki area of Lagos State, the lawmaker assured them of justice.
The senator said: ” Nobody will hurt you, I am here to console the family. I am the chairman senate committee on creative economy and also vice chairman senate committee on youths. When we heard of your son’s death and the controversy or circumstances that appeared on social media, we feel it is important to come here and condole with your family and see you.
“The government will never abandon its citizens. This current administration has created a ministry, that is the ministry of arts, culture and creative economy and Mohbad was a major player in the creative economy of this country.
” So when his death comes the senate feels that the interest Nigerians have in this matter will begin to listen. We can’t pay dead ears to what Nigerians are crying for. So we will first of all condole with the family, nobody can bring Mohbad back, we love but what I can assure you is that the government of Nigeria will do everything within its own power to investigate this matter thoroughly and if everybody’s hand is involved the person would be brought to justice.
” It has taken a different dimension now; it’s like the movement of black life matters. Because celebrities all over the world have started posting justice for Mohbad. And I want them to know that the government is interested in the case, nobody is hiding anything, nobody is above the law. We have absolute confidence in the Police.
“The IG has ordered a thorough investigation in the matter and it will be investigated. We are here to let the family know that we are with them.
“The Senate will resume on the 26th of September. That is a few days from now and we are going back to the chamber. And we are assuring you that the senate which belongs to the Nigerian people will look into this without any sentiment. We will look into the matter and we will invite the policies to come and brief us on what they have done so far on this matter.
“I am calling on the Nigerian youths especially those who Mohbad was our friend or brother, don’t take to the street, believe me I will never be quiet when I see a youth being destroyed.
If you take the street some people who do not love us will hijack it. Because I believe Mohbad won’t be happy to see that someone died in his name.
“I didn’t come alone, I came with some major players.
Mum we are with you, the FG is with you. When you say that somebody is threatening you don’t be afraid nobody should leave in fear. The same freedom the president enjoys is what you enjoy. So don’t be afraid. I will rate this to the senate and I will call the IG and tell him these things that there is a threat somewhere. Nobody will touch you.”
Abbo also promised to lead the campaign for the setup of a Creative Economy Commission.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Entertainment Economy said the move would address conflicts within the creative industry, including disputes related to record labels and artist contracts.
The late Mohbad’s mother has urged the Federal Government and Nigerians in general to help uncover the truth behind her son’s untimely demise.
The distraught mother, who spoke in Yoruba Language, alleged that Naira Marley, the owner of Marlian Record label, is connected to her son’s death.
She also called for assistance in investigating the matter further.
She said that her late son had always complained about the serious threat to his life by Naira Marley and some other individuals.
In tears, she said “I know my son, he told me that Naira Marley usually threatened him. Please Nigerians help me to look for him, please have mercy on me, that is all you can do for me.
“I cannot singlehandedly fish him out. Also, he told me the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) gave him some water in a bottle to drink some time ago. Help me please.
“My son has always been beaten. Even though he was mentioning Sam Larry, l don’t know them. They enslaved my son. He was always telling me to guide him so he would not be killed, these were all he was saying until they finally killed him. Please help me.”
