Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Ede Dafinone for their “exceptional performances” across federal and state levels.

The event which was organised in collaboration with Chief Hope Ejiro, SSA to the Governor Community Development brought together youth leaders from all our 8 Local Government areas and other dignitaries including Hon Solomon Ighrakpata, Leader, Okpe, Saple, Uvwie Federal Constituency, and Hon. Tony Ofoni, Chairman of Uvwie LGA.

The vote of confidence was declared during a high-impact Delta Central Community Youth Engagement and Empowerment Programme with Senator Ede Dafinone at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. The motion was moved by Rt. Hon. Rire Oboeruomo, Leader of the Uvwie Legislative Arm, and seconded by Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Oghenetega Emojeya of Ethiope East, drawing resounding applause and unanimous approval from the diverse crowd.

Dafinone explained that the gathering was not about politics but about direct engagement with his constituents. “This is about service. My office is open to every Urhobo son and daughter. To access my office, you only need to say you are from Delta Central,” he said.

He emphasised that the purpose of the engagement was to collect the data of community-based groups and individuals for fair distribution of federal opportunities, especially in recruitment into military and paramilitary agencies.

“Our slots are often left unfilled at the national level because our people don’t know when recruitment starts. This stops now,” he declared. “From today, you will be informed through your leaders. When Abuja blows the whistle, you will be ready to apply.”

As part of the empowerment program, 100 youths were given POS machines and N50,000 in startup capital. Some young women from Delta Central—were presented with sewing machines after completing vocational training in Lagos. Forms for enlistment into the armed forces and other agencies were also distributed.

Dafinone also addressed past concerns about federal interventions: “Some sold the equipment the same day they received them. If you ask for help, you must be serious. Don’t waste someone else’s chance.”

Chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue and leader of the Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency, Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, praised Dafinone’s proactive approach. “This is leadership. The senator is engaging the grassroots directly, and we must support him. The more he grows, the better for us,” he stated.

Delta debunks Urhobo community’s abandonment claim, says Oborevwori committed to equitable devt

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration to equitable development across all parts of the state, dismissing claims that the Udu Local Government Area has been sidelined.

Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in Udu, particularly the Bezi Road and drainage project linking Aladja to Ogbe-Ijoh, headquarters of Warri South West Local Government Area, Izeze said the presence of the administration in Udu is a clear demonstration of its dedication to inclusive infrastructure development.

Izeze said, “We are here to assess the progress on this critical road. The initial design of the road failed to anticipate the volume of water in the area.

“However, upon discovering the inadequacy of the original drainage plan, the government promptly approved an additional 465 meters of drains to channel water to a nearby natural canal along the Ogbe-Ijoh–Aladja axis.”

He expressed concern over the pace of work, acknowledging that while some progress had been made, greater urgency was required.

“We had expected more by now, but the contractors have shown commitment. We are pushing them to complete the major works before the peak of the August rains. We expect the contractor handling the Bezi Road to deliver on time so that residents can begin to enjoy the benefits,” he said.

Commenting on the recent protest by youths in Udu demanding more government attention, Izeze said their agitation was understandable.

“The youths are within their rights to ask for more, that’s democracy. But I am here in Udu, supervising a major project already being executed. The claim that Udu has been neglected is simply not accurate,” he stated.

He noted that the Oborevwori administration is executing several multi-billion-naira projects in Udu, including the Opete Road project and the ongoing rehabilitation of the Orhuwhorun–Usiefrun Road, both of which are vital to the socio-economic needs of the area.

“Governor Oborevwori is governing the entire Delta State, and Udu is not left out. The Bezi Road we are standing on has a stone base, sharp sand treatment, and full drainage on both sides. It is a quality project by every standard,” he stated.

“Being a Warri boy means being a homeboy, someone who knows every part of Delta. The Governor hears the grumblings, and he is addressing them gradually. Udu is not excluded,” he added.

Izeze emphasised that development efforts were being guided by fairness and available resources, assuring that the administration will continue to implement impactful projects across the state.

He also reaffirmed political alignment and unity under the current leadership, saying, “Udu is with Sheriff, and Sheriff is with Udu. We are all now members of the same political family, the APC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The journey to El Dorado continues, and no part of Delta will be left behind.”

At Sokoh Estate Road in Uvwie Local Government Area, Comrade Izeze also appealed to residents to be patient with the contractor, assuring them that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeline.

Responding to complaints from residents about the pace of work and the perceived absence of contractors on-site, Izeze explained that the inspection visit was unannounced to allow for an honest assessment.

“We decided to come without prior notice, and we are pleased to see that the contractors are on-site and working. Our appeal to the public is simple: road construction is a process, and those processes must be followed with precision to ensure long-lasting results.”

Reflecting on the history of the Sokoh Estate Road, the Commissioner noted that the road had suffered decades of failed interventions.

“Since my first visit to this area in the early 1990s, this road has had a checkered history. Despite efforts by past administrations, including the NDDC and the state government, the road hase never truly stood the test of time. But Governor Oborevwori, the promise keeper, is determined to change that narrative,” he indicated.

He disclosed that the Governor personally supervised the redesign of the project to ensure that the drainage system could accommodate the area’s heavy rainfall.

Also speaking, the representative of the contracting firm, Engr. Ifeanyi Ochuba, confirmed that work was progressing steadily and assured the people that the project would be completed within the agreed timeframe of December 2025.

  • Oborevwori boosts infrastructure in Delta with key urban, rural road projects

Oborevwori boosts infrastructure in Delta with key urban, rural road projects

The Delta State Government has intensified its infrastructure development drive with the completion of critical urban road networks in Asaba and the ongoing construction of strategic rural roads in Oko-Amakom and surrounding communities.

Speaking  during an extensive inspection tour, Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to delivering quality infrastructure across the state.

He described the projects as a reflection of the administration’s resolve to fulfill its campaign promises to the people.

In Asaba, Izeze inspected a newly completed network of roads spanning over 2.75 km, complete with an integrated drainage system connected to the city’s storm water channel.

He revealed that the roads form part of a larger set of eight interlinked routes under the administration’s urban renewal initiative.

According to him, the area was once in a deplorable state, with residents living in poor conditions due to lack of accessible roads.

“Before now, this place was practically uninhabitable like the third world before independence. But as you can see today, the roads are smooth, well-drained, and motorable,” he said.

Among the completed roads inspected were Onuorah Ifesinachi Street, Aaron Ndubusi Street, Chinedu Obodo Way, Senator Francis Nwajel Street, Jude Ugheni Street, Rock Valley Boulevard, Abigail Orugbo Street, Oke Oshogbor Street, Chinedu Obodo Extension, and Alika Blessing Street off Talita School Road.

Also included were Kwakagbor Community Road and the accompanying discharge drains that crosses within the GSM Company, Asaba.

Izeze said the Ministry of Works conducted rigorous supervision during the construction phase to ensure contractors complied with specifications and  expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, hinting that the roads would soon be inaugurated by Governor Oborevwori, either physically or virtually.

He also visited the ongoing construction of the Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu Road and the access road to the 2nd Niger Bridge Service Road in Oko, Oshimili South Local Government Area, where he noted that the project had reached 64.82 percent completion.

At the Kwakagbor Community Road and discharge drains, Izeze said, “We observed some anomalies, and we’ve asked our engineers to direct the contractor to correct them immediately. We will return unannounced to confirm that those issues have been resolved,” Izeze stated.

Highlighting the importance of rural connectivity, the commissioner stressed that the Oko-Amakom project is vital to the predominantly agrarian Oko communities.

Surrounded by rice and other crop farms, the road is expected to ease transportation of produce to major markets in Onitsha and Oko.

“This project has been long overdue, it predates the creation of Delta State. But under Governor Oborevwori’s stewardship, it is now being brought to life. The governor is committed to completing all inherited projects, and that’s why many now refer to him as the ‘Promise Keeper,” he added.

He urged contractors to align their work with global standards, including those outlined by the United Nations and the technical requirements set by the Ministry of Works, noting that such compliance would enhance timely delivery and bolster the administration’s credibility.

Comrade Izeze reaffirmed that the Oborevwori-led government is focused on delivering people-centered infrastructure that bridges the gap between urban and rural communities, improves living standards, and drives inclusive economic growth across Delta State.

South-South Area Manager of Setraco Nigeria Limited, Mr. Jay Jay, who spoke during the visit, assured Deltans that the Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu project would be completed within five weeks.

“This shows that in the next election, we will be the ones to give all our votes to President Tinubu. We succeeded in passing a vote of confidence for Mr. President. We equally did the same for the Governor.

“The meeting today is very good for Itsekiri because we have not been able to sit together for a very long time. And politics is one of the things that has been causing our internal issues. So you can see that Itsekiri is coming back stronger and stronger every day,” Chief Emami asserted.
