Oborevwori’s mid term performance impactful, says Okumagba

Prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State Olorogun Bernard Okumagba has applauded the first two years of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration as “impactful”, adding that it “evokes signs of better things to come.”

In a statement congratulating the Governor on his second year anniversary, the former Commissioner of Finance said: “His Excellency, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has changed the landscape of Delta State with roads, bridges and investments in other infrastructure across the state.

“I am particularly pleased with his work especially in Warri, Uvwie and environs given the outstanding infrastructural projects such as the bridges that he has embarked on, which together upon completion will change the aesthetics and address traffic congestion in the area.”

He commended the Governor governor for “walking the talk of his MORE agenda by doing more in several sectors and giving Deltans across the state hope of more economic and social progress.”

Okumagba expressed confidence in Oborevwori to deliver on the people’s expectations and advised him not to rest on his oars but continue with the fervour with which he commenced his administration 2 years ago.

He commended the Governor’s efforts at attracting investment and providing jobs for young Deltans.

Emphasising the need to build structures that stimulate job creation, Okumagba said the government’s efforts at skills development and credit support were commendable and needs to be scaled up to an integrated plan that engages local and foreign investors for an overall massive impact on jobs to grow the economy of Delta State.

He added that attention should be paid to attracting new investments especially in manufacturing and processing. “Given our huge natural resources, we can take advantage of the improvement in infrastructure to make Delta the economic production hub of Nigeria,” Olorogun Okumagba stated.

Okumagba urged all Deltans to rally behind Governor Oborevwori and work together towards building a stronger, more united, and more prosperous Delta State.

Delta APC grateful for Oborevwori’s defection- Emerhor

Founding Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, has hailed the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the PDP structure in the State to the APC, describing it as a unifying moment that has brought much-needed stability to the party.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at Government House, Asaba, after a closed-door meeting with Governor Oborevwori, Emerhor expressed confidence that the Governor’s leadership and the renewed unity within the APC would ensure victory for both the presidency and the governorship in the 2027 general elections.

“Today is truly a great day for us,” he said. “Being called the ‘founding leader’ is not just an appellation — it is a statement of fact. When we began building the APC in Delta State, we knew the challenges ahead. Since 1999, the PDP has been the ruling party in this state. But our dream has always been that one day, we would enter this Government House as APC. Today, that dream has become a reality.”

Emerhor, who was out of the country when other APC leaders, led by Minister Festus Keyamo, formally welcomed Oborevwori, said his visit was to reinforce the party’s unified support for the governor.

“I’m here today with the same message — to reinforce that he is very welcome,” Emerhor stated. “He is now our leader, and we are going to work with him.”

The former APC governorship candidate noted that Oborevwori’s defection has healed internal rifts within the party. “In the last election, we couldn’t deliver the president in Delta State. But now, we can confidently say both the president and governor will be delivered in 2027 — and that’s because of the unity we have found,” he declared.

He described the Governor’s move to the APC as a “great favour,” highlighting the strategic value of combining the PDP’s political base with the APC’s existing structure.

“The strength of what he brings from the PDP and what we already have in the APC will ensure that, in the next election, both the president and the governor will be delivered without any difficulty,” Emerhor added.

Responding to concerns within the party about the new alliance, he said, “It is natural in party politics. But they will soon see the benefit of what has happened. We are on course to building a united party that can deliver victory at every level.”

The visit is being seen as a strategic consolidation of APC forces in Delta State, potentially redrawing the political landscape in a state historically dominated by the PDP.

He said the anniversary was more than just a calendar date,  but a time to reflect, appreciate and renew his commitment to building a future defined by resilience and prosperity.

He said the success stories in agriculture, infrastructure, education, health, economic empowerment, transportation, and security were the result of collective effort and shared vision.

“The achievements made so far are testaments to a shared vision and collective will of the people. The building of New Niger is on, and my administration remains committed to it,” the governor stated.

Bago also extended his appreciation to the media and called on them to continue with objective and ethical reporting.

Umahi does not control me, says  Nwifuru

At an anniversary lecture in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State,   Governor  Francis Nwifuru denied that his predecessor, Senator   Dave Umahi, dictates his policies and actions.

Nwifuru was   Speaker of the state House of Assembly between 2015 and 2023 when Umahi was governor.

Umahi had declared in several fora that he fought forces to make his “son” Nwifuru succeed him, while the latter always called the   Works Minister his “father and boss”.

The governor told former Governor Sam Egwu and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation(SGF) Anyim Pius Anyim, who were among the prominent figures at the lecture that that he is responsible for all actions.

He said: “I am logically stubborn, and Umahi knows this well.

“Umahi is a man whose ways are clear and has never insisted that I do things this way or that. The minister knows that if he does that, I will resist it.

“Any shortcoming on my part rests entirely on me and not on anyone else.

“I could have been a better leader if Umahi actually controls me.”

He pledged to defend the integrity of the state in the country and urged all stakeholders present to toe the same line.

The governor referred to the altercation between Ebonyi North Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi and former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili, saying he stood by the federal lawmaker.

He argued that Ezekwesili couldn’t have described  Nwaebonyi as a hooligan if he were to be from  ‘’Kano, Anambra or any other state.’’

His words: “I truly commend Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi for standing his ground when a former female minister called him a hooligan at a Senate hearing.

“The woman did that because Nwebonyi is from Ebonyi and could not have done so if he were from Kano, Anambra or any other state.

“Nwebonyi’s defence was not only for himself but for the entire people of our state.   People should not look down on us anymore.”

Anyim, a former Senate President and Egwu commended the governor for his strides within two years and urged him not to be distracted in implementing his People’s Charter of Needs mantra.

    2027: U3 forum endorses Tinubu, Oborevwori, Dafinone, Waive’s re-election

The U3 Forum, a political pressure group representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency, has supported President Bola Tinubu, Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and Hon. Francis Waive ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meeting at the Ovwor residence of its Chairman, Chief John Oguma, the forum declared unwavering loyalty to the APC and unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the four leaders. The motion was moved by Barr. Jaro Egbo and seconded by Hon. Adelabu Bojour.

“We must return Tinubu back to the Villa. That one is sealed,” declared Chief Oguma. “The same goes for our governor. He is doing very well. He’s the only one in our history that the 24 Urhobo kings came together and gave a chieftaincy title. That shows unity and respect.”

Speaking on Senator Dafinone, Oguma said: “We played politics with his father in the NPN. When his father was a Senator, I was a youth leader. Today, the son continues that legacy. His father did two tenures, and so should he.”

He added that so far, Dafinone is doing a great job at the Senate so he needs to go back to consolidate on his achievements and attract more development to Urhobo Land.

He also praised Hon. Waive for his developmental strides: “For a long time, we sent people to the National Assembly and saw no impact. But today, we have a representative who brought a Federal Medical Centre to Udu, facilitated a Federal School of Nursing, and a world-class Computer School. This is the kind of politics I believe in—human capital development before anything else.”

Oguma emphasized the forum’s collective resolve: “When I made that statement, no one challenged me. Instead, the support was overwhelming. We don’t play the politics of ‘I’—it’s always ‘we’. Let us respect one another. If it’s not your turn today, it could be yours tomorrow. We have one governor, one president. We must remain loyal and follow their leadership. Fighting them is like fighting God, who put them there.”

Senator Dafinone echoed this spirit of unity: “There is no more opposition in Delta. We are now one party, with one purpose. There are no victors and no vanquished—we are all winners.”

He praised Governor Oborevwori for unifying political forces. “Bringing the PDP bloc into the APC was visionary and unifying. Today, federal appointments go through the governor’s office. There is restored discipline and structure.”

On national challenges, he noted, “The past two years have been tough, but under President Tinubu, the economy is beginning to recover. The tough decisions taken are starting to yield fruit.”

He called on Deltans and Nigerians to continue to support the APC government led by President Bola Tinubu, noting that soon, the gains of the economic policies of this administration will take away the momental that some of the citizens had to endure.

Hon. Francis Waive was visibly moved by the endorsement. “When your people come around, pass a vote of confidence, and say you have the ticket going forward, man, I’m overwhelmed,” he said.

He pointed to the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Oleri—signed into law by President Tinubu—as a major achievement, saying, “We are seeing unity like never before. Governor Oborevwori has brought together political forces, and that’s what leadership looks like.”

  • Oborevwori managing Delta’s funds prudently, says aide

Oborevwori managing Delta’s funds prudently, says aide

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, yesterday said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is leading a vibrant and solvent economy, with numerous infrastructure projects spread across the state.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Aniagwu said that Oborevwori has demonstrated a high level of prudence and accountability in the governance of Delta State.

The Commissioner emphasised that the state’s finances are in a strong position, with contractors being mobilized to project sites and all certified payments made promptly.

“I can tell you with all modesty that we are very solvent as a state. It is not every day you hear a state declare its solvency,” he said.

“We didn’t become solvent because money was being poured on us. We became solvent because our government has consistently applied prudence and accountability in managing the state’s resources.

“Today, we evaluate projects thoroughly before awarding them. Once awarded, we ensure the cost is reasonable so that we are not simply throwing money at unproductive ventures.

“This approach has enabled us to save funds. When people work, we pay them promptly, which allows us to effectively reach out to communities with development projects.

“Our economy today is vibrant, thanks to the developmental initiatives of the Oborevwori administration.”

He further explained that even when contracts are awarded to foreign companies, the benefits still trickle down to local communities.

“For instance, if a road contract is awarded to a company from Kenya or Germany, the workers handling iron bending, concrete mixing, and other related services are sourced from local communities.

“These workers are paid, and the materials like cement are purchased from local vendors. This means the funds deployed for projects create a ripple effect throughout the state, with a large portion of the money ultimately returning to our people.”

Aniagwu noted that the best way to stimulate the economy is by investing in projects that provide employment and generate real income for citizens.

“The best way to inject money into the economy is not through palliatives, but by getting people to work and earn. When they earn their income, they tend to spend it wisely.

“This approach also helps reduce inflation. But when you simply distribute money say you have a billion naira and you give N100,000 each you risk exacerbating inflationary pressures.”

The Commissioner also reiterated the strategic advantage of the state aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that such alignment would enhance access to federal support for development projects.

“No matter what anyone says about the federal government being for everyone which is true when support is brought to your home, it is natural to first share it among your children before considering the neighbors.

“There is a saying from where I come from: when hunting rabbits, you use the leaves closest to the rabbit hole to cover it not leaves from far away. In other words, being in the same political platform as the center naturally comes with certain advantages. It’s not about bias; it’s just the way things work.”

Aniagwu concluded by affirming Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to ensuring that Deltans receive full value for money on all fronts.

“This approach is also fostering greater unity among our people, strengthening the spirit of ‘One Delta’ in both word and deed.

“By the end of his first term in 2027, and by the grace of God, after his second term in 2031, Deltans will look back and say: ‘Thank God we had a governor like Sheriff Oborevwori.’

“That will bring pride to us as members of his cabinet, and joy to his children, who will be proud of the legacy their father has built.

“Governor Oborevwori is a man who matches his words with actions. He is focused on serving well and leaving office with dignity, honor, and the respect of the people he served.”
