RCCG fed me, 3,000 inmates every Sunday – Seun Egbegbe

Filmmaker, Olajide Kareem popularly known as Seun Egbegbe, has opened up about his experiences in prison.

Recall that Egbegbe spent six years and eight months over his alleged involvement in fraudulent activities.

I will advise everyone to flee from cr!me. The Redeemed Church really tried for us in prison. He advised others to avoid crime, reflecting on his own experiences.

  • RCCG empowers 27 widows with N2.7m

RCCG empowers 27 widows with N2.7m

No fewer than 27 widows were empowered with ₦100,000 each at the Supporting the Widows and Widowers Programme held recently in Lagos state.

The empowerment programme was organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Love Assembly, Ilupeju.

The pastor in charge of RCCG Lagos Province 1, Pastor Samuel Olaniyan, admonished everyone to always help the poor and the less privileged in society.

He said: “Those that God has blessed should not turn their eyes and hearts away from the less privileged in society. The more you give, the more you receive. When you give to special people like this, God takes special notice of you.

“What we have done here today is to empower our widows. We are just operating on the word of the Almighty that tells us that widows in our midst must not suffer. We should take care of them and not despise them.

“We have seen that we have many widows in our midst who are not finding it easy. We come up with this programme to provide some money for them to boost their vocation.

“We went to the grassroots, the parishes and picked selected widows. We believe that if the money is applied properly, it will go a long way for them.”

The chairman planning committee, CSR, RCCG, Lagos Province 1, Pastor Olalekan Gbotolorun, noted that the scripture was what prompted the benevolence act. Adding that true religion is for man to care for the widow and the fatherless.

He urged groups and individuals to always support the less privileged.

“Apart from the government, I want to urge groups and everyone to come together and help the less privileged. The magnitude of what the government has to do is enormous. If we can lend our hand here and there, it will help the government. The government too, should bring out policies that will grow our economy so that we can have less people under the level of poverty and reverse that trend.

“There is a lot of hardship going on in the country. Whether the protest will solve it, I don’t know. I would prefer things that would solve what we are going through. If there’s any way to encourage the government or find a way to let the government bring about the change that we so desire, they should bring the change that we desire apart from the protest. Protests in this country rarely end well. I only want things to get better,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries of the empowerment, Chinwendu Okoye, said: “Women in my condition should have patience. God will definitely remember them the way he remembered me today. I will use the money for my business. I’m into article business. I have four children I’m feeding.”

RCCG ushers hold mega rally for Vision 2032

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Vision 2032, which aims to win 40 million souls into the church’s fold by year 2032 was given a huge boost penultimate Saturday, when the Ushering Department of the church’s Region 2 (Overcomers Family) Lagos, held a mega rally in Agege/Fagba, Aswani-Ajao Estate and Bariga/Gbagada.

Speaking to The Nation at the Agege/Fagba rally which took off at Pen Cinema junction, Assistant Pastor Mrs Jumoke Wale Sebiomo of Region 2 Lagos Province 87, said the walk was to promote the kingdom of God and help the Redeemed Christian Church of God achieve its target of 40 million souls by the year 2032 as proposed by the general overseer of the church, Pastor E A Adeboye.

“The vision of our General Overseer, Pastor Adeboye is to add 40 million souls to the Redeemed Christian Church of God fold by 20232. From our banner, you can see that we wrote 40 million Souls is Possible. And we believe it is possible, it is achievable and we’ll achieve it. And the truth is, if you have a vision, you have to drive it. And that is what we are doing.

“We Region 2 ushers asked ourselves, what can we do to be part of this course? And we decided to do a mega rally. It is a mega rally because we have different groups. Group 1 is taking off at Bariga to minister up to our Regional Headquarter at Gbagada, to be received by our Regional Pastor, Pastor Lebi. Group 2, which is our group, is taking off from Pen Cinema to walk, minister, preach, pray and win souls up to Fagba, while Group 3 will be starting from Aswani right up to Ajao Estate to terminate at our LP 14 province.”

Another participant, Pastor Mrs Adebukola Braimoh said the rally was to march and evangelise the second coming of Christ. “What is going on in our environment now is toxic and making people have doubts about the existence of God; but God is watching and we are reminding people that despite the situation in Nigeria, we still have to thank God, because it is worse in some developed world.”

On whether the group all had the strength to go through the long walk to Fagba Bus Stop, another leader in the group, Adeyemi Soyemi said: “It’s not a big task. From the way I was brought up, I used to trek six miles from my house to my school every day; meanwhile Pen Cinema to Fagba is not up to four miles. Besides, it’s neither by power nor by might.”

Kpandei replaces Iluyomade at RCCG City of David

    • Pastor suspended for three months

The pastor in charge of Resurrection Parish in Region 11 of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Charles Kpandei, has replaced the Senior Pastor of the City of David Parish of the church, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.

Iluyomade, who is also the head of the Apapa Family of the RCCG, was reportedly suspended at the weekend for three months by the Governing Council of the church, a source confided in The Nation.

A top pastor in the church said the decision to suspend Iluyomade was in response to the public outcry against what was described as an extravagant birthday party his wife held after the death of a former CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe.

A panel has also been set up to investigate some of the allegations against him and the parish.

The sources said: “Those in the City of David had been expecting Pastor Kpandei. Some top RCCG officials had to meet with some top people in the parish and confided in them that Pastor Iluyomade would have to be removed from the parish.

“They needed to get the confidence of these top people because of the great influence of Pastor Iluyomade in the parish. The RCCG was not sure of the outcome of its move; so, it had to be discreet. He may not be returned to the parish after the suspension.

“It was not (the General Overseer) Pastor Enoch Adeboye that suspended him; it was the governing council that suspended him. I think it’s a decision in the right direction, though some believe it is coming late. They needed to investigate some of the things people were saying against him and the church.”

Fondly called PID, Pastor Iluyomade has been in the eyes of the storm following the 60th birthday of his wife, Siji.

Many people believed the birthday, which was celebrated about a week after the death of Wigwe in a helicopter crash in the U.S., was in bad taste.

Wigwe had been of immense blessing to the church before his transition, but the birthday party suggested the church had no emotional attachment to him.

  • How Region 44 of RCCG rocked Ota with Praise Encounter

How Region 44 of RCCG rocked Ota with Praise Encounter

The days seem over when Easter was observed in absolute solemnity with the suffering and eventual death of Jesus Christ on the cross as the focal point. More and more, the Christian community is seeing Easter not just from the prism of suffering and death but also from the perspective of triumph over sin and the gift of everlasting life.

The foregoing accounts for why Easter period is now for most churches an occasion for social interaction and merrymaking. Hence they have designed various programmes that set Easter apart as an occasion to wine, dine and engage in other forms of social interaction.

For members of the Region 44 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Otta, Ogun State, the means for achieving this is the annual Praise Encounter; a programme that features stage performance by reputable gospel artistes. And this year was no exception with scintillating performances by various artistes who held the gathering at Honda Manufacturing Playing Ground on Idiroko Road, Otta spell-bound with their songs.

The all-night event did not exempt political heavyweights in the state, traditional rulers, youths and lovers of gospel music in general. The open ground was filled to capacity, causing the gathering to spill to the ever-busy Idiroko Road and saddling the security agents with the onerous task of controlling both the crowd and the vehicular movements.

The star performance for the night was delivered by the popular Yoruba gospel artiste, Tope Alabi, who arrested the attention of attendees as well as passers-by with her sonorous voice and mesmerizing dance steps.

Not only did she entertain the crowd, her ministration and altar call drew hundreds of people out to confess their sins and give their lives to Christ.

The songstress expressed her joy at the opportunity to experience another praise encounter with Ota as the new venue.

She said: “I see God making it happen every year. That is why I expect praise encounter and it gives me the opportunity to minister in my own kind of ministration.

“I don’t have a ministry as a church at the moment, but I have small group we gather and pray together and I admonish them.

“I pray and wait till God says something before I leave. When you do these, you will leave with blessings, you will leave with songs and lyrics that people will marvel at what God would do.”

Chuks Uche, the gospel artiste whose electrifying performance ignited the over 10,000 capacity crowd at the open ground of Honda Manufacturing Company, sang most of his songs in Igbo.

Recalling how he became a part of the show, he said: “I was excited when Pastor Godwin Obadan put a call through to me that I was going to perform here in Ota.

“We used to have the programme in Ikorodu (Lagos) before Pastor Obadan was suddenly transferred to Ogun State.”

Uche, who said his expectation for the congregation was for them to receive miracle through his songs, added that his worship song was billed to hit the airwaves on social media on April 12.

The RCCG Region 44 mass choir was not left behind as they performed in colourful Hausa outfit after the Yoruba, Edo, Igbo and Efik groups had taken turns to thril the crowd.

Children groups were also not left out as more than 100 of them mimed to some popular gospel songs.

Adegbite Johnson, Grace D’eulogier, Boiz Olorun, Fomzy Music, Yetunde Are, Minister Chucks, Minister Afolashade and Jenet Praise were also there to entertain the crowd.

The Boiz Olorun, an Apala group, was led by Feranmi Biala, who took out time to talk about his kind of music.

He said: “The genre is Apala, the message is gospel. The Christian community accepted the music from the beginning. We received a very encouraging acceptance from the church.

“The Holy Spirit is my inspirer. My view for the gospel of our Lord Jesus is being communicated in a way that people would want to relate with.

“So, each time I have the opportunity to do that, I just want to go with that scripture that says whatever your hand finds doing, do it with all your heart.

“So, basically, my inspiration is the Holy Spirit.

The Olota of Ota, Prof. Abdulkarim Adeyemi Obalanlege, represented by the Onibudo of Ayetoro Obudo-Otta, Oba (Dr) Adewumi Adeniji Odutala and the Oba-in-Council, in his endorsement of the event, described it as a cleansing of the land.

He said: “We are happy to be associated with this kind of programme. We have witnessed programmes like this, but this is bigger and better.

“In my community, we have one we call festival of praise in Decembers.

“Some people think that we in Ota are fetish idol worshipers, but I am telling you that Ota is a city of God, a city that God loves so much, and we want more of this programme to proclaim the name of Jesus Christ.”

Oba Odutala added that the programme should not be a one-off but a regular event, adding that the people in his kingdom and environment would be expecting. He also promised to support its organisers in whatever way he can.

He quoted the Olota as saying that whenever the church of God called on him, he and his chiefs would be ready to answer and support them.

“This is big and beautiful. This is what we want in our community; not secular party. This is giving back praise to the King of Kings. We used to hear about it in other towns. It is now the turn of Ota,” he said to the admiration of the cheering crowd.

The Region 44 pastor in Ota family, Dr Seun Aderibigbe, who described the event as provoking heaven to rain blessings on Ota and Ogun State generally, said: “We underestimate the power of praise. Five kings were silenced against one king (Usa) by the power of praise; just because he raised a praise altar unto God.

“This is our own way of raising praise unto God and say God, remember our land, remember Ota, remember Ogun, remember Nigeria.”

Aderibigbe, who expressed optimism that Nigeria will bounce back from its current economic travails, added: “This nation shall witness revival, restoration and total victory over all the challenges we are facing at the moment. When praises goes up, blessings come down.

“Pastor Godwin Obadan and I worked together at Ikorodu where we organised praise encounter. As God would have it, we met again in Ota and we then planned to make it better and bigger.”

The preacher at the occasion and continental overseer for Continent 3 (South West, Nigeria & Middle East) of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Johnson Funso Odesola, took his message from Luke 18: 35 with the theme: Your time of encounter.

Odesola said that God can make way where there is no way, making reference to Exodus: 14:21. “He (God) can turn Mr Nobody to Mr Somebody. In Genesis 32:28, He can make doors of supernatural destiny open.

“How do I know? You have to be sensitive to the move of encounter, cry out for help (Jeremiah 3:33) and surrender to the master (Matt.11 23-30).

“Life is turn by turn. There is always a turn for every environment, every sector, and now is the turn of Ota, because when an encounter comes, the dynamics change, destiny changes and miracles are generated and distributed.

“This is the season that God wants Ota to experience and enjoy the wonders of God.”

One of the organisers and provincial pastor of RCCG Ogun Province 3, Pastor Godwin Obadan promised to bring more artistes in the subsequent editions.

“We have more popular artistes who promised to perform at “Praise Encounter” next year. The challenge of space is manageable and we also have space for cars this year.

“We will intensify on control of the crowd. Our medical team is fantastic. We have more than 10,000 participants here today, mainly youth.

“It is a starting point for Region 44. We have more to come on the next edition. We will prepare for a bigger and more spacious venue here in Ota.

“Participants here today are more than 10,000. Other people were standing outside the ground and across the road. We ensured the safety of people on the road and other places at the ground.

“Praise is what I love, and God is blessing my ministry through songs, music and dance in praising Him (God).

“When I was transferred to Ogun province, I sold the idea to the regional pastor and he immediately welcomed it and we put what you witnessed.

“All the artistes that we invited physically performed.”

The member of the House of Representatives representing Ado Odo/Otta Federal Constituency, Akinosi Olatunji Akinni, described the praise encounter as unprecedented.

“The crowd is unbelievable, and praising God is what this country needs now, I thank God that it is starting in my constituency.

“We shall continue to host it as long as the Redeemed Christian Church of God will continue to bring it here.

“All the support that they want, both from the state and the federal, we shall provide.

“My governor would have loved it so much if he had known that this is the kind of worship we are having here today.

“This year’s is gone, but if you bring it next year, I am certain my governor will be here.”

The lawmaker thanked God and for the programme and the cleansing of the land.

RCCG donates 100 waste bins to councils, others

The Redeemed Christian Church of Nigeria (RCCG), Lagos Province 44, has donated waste bins to Surulere Local Government, Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and other groups.

The Provincial Pastor, Amos Emovon, said the gesture was orchestrated by the RCCG’s General-Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to make Lagos environment cleaner and safer.

Pastor Emovon said the Cleaner Lagos Initiative would ensure Lagos maintains its Centre of Excellence and to give the community an avenue to properly dispose their waste.

He said: “That goal will be achieved when we have a good environment, and for us as a church, we preach that God expects us to be clean, so we want to walk the talk, what we preach, we want to actualise it and help our members and community to ensure that they don’t dispose their wastes indiscriminately, we want to give them an avenue to properly dispose their waste.”

Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, who was represented by Director in the ministry, Babajide Adeoye, lauded the actions of the church and pointed out the need to collaborate with private sectors in making the nook and cranny of the state a better place.

Wahab said the governments are doing their parts and they also appreciate the support of the private sector because they cannot do it all alone.

He added that the government will continue to work with private sectors and to invite organisations to come together to ensure cleanliness of the society.

“This gesture is welcomed by the state government; if you look at the waste management practice, we’re working with the private sector to ensure evacuation of wastes from tournaments and commercial premises. We’ll achieve so much by working together and our communities would be better for it,” he said.

Onikate of Ikate, Oba Lateef Adams hailed the church for the initiative.

Oba Adams urged the beneficiaries to use the bins properly.

The Assistant Pastor in charge of Province (APICP) LP44, Pastor Ajibola Opeoluwa-Calebs, said the gesture was the Coporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the church.

Pastor Opeoluwa-Calebs listed other beneficiaries to include traders, primary and secondary schools, palaces, Community Development Associations (CDAs), police stations, churches and mosques among others.

Rule prohibiting non-members from preaching global — RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has clarified that the rule prohibiting outsiders from preaching in its churches is applicable worldwide.

A January 5, 2024, memo signed by Pastor Oladele Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, titled “Invitation of Guest Ministers in RCCG,” went viral on Monday.

It said that “no external preacher, speaker, or minister should be permitted on any of our altars or platforms.”

The letter that caused a stir on the internet was sent to all global pastors in charge of regions and provinces, as well as deputy and assistant continental overseers and overseers.

It read: “We refer to our memo dated 14th December 2023 with Ref: RCCG/ADM/OAB/JP/MEMO/14/12/2023 on the above subject matter, and wish to inform you that the General Overseer (Pastor Enoch Adeboye) has issued a further directive that no external preacher, speaker or minister should be permitted on any of our altars or platforms.

“Anyone intending to invite a guest minister, speaker, or preacher to their parish must ensure that the individual is a recognised member of the RCCG.”

The message also threatened to remove any minister who disobeyed the order from their ministerial responsibilities in the Mission and to subject them to “severe disciplinary measures.”

However, in an interview conducted late on Tuesday, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, the Head of Media and Public Relations for the RCCG, gave additional details about the letter, emphasizing that it was an absolute prohibition and that preachers who are not part of the RCCG ethos are not welcome to serve as parish ministers.

Pastor Olubiyi said: “It’s a total ban on all our parishes from inviting people from other churches. Yes, we have a system whereby people are to seek approval but now it’s a complete ban, a total ban from inviting people who are not clearly from the RCCG culture. It’s a total ban on all our parishes within and outside Nigeria from inviting people from other denominations.”

He added: “Any programme, anything we want to do, we must source from people who are clearly RCCG ministers.”

  • Why non-members can’t preach in our parishes, by RCCG

Why non-members can’t preach in our parishes, by RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has explained why a directive was given that non-members of the church should not be allowed to preach in its parishes.

A memorandum hit social media on Monday, titled: Invitation of Guest Ministers in RCCG and dated: January 5, 2024, which prohibited non-members from preaching across the units of the church.

The memorandum was signed by the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, Pastor Oladele Balogun.

It stated that “no external preacher, speaker or minister should be permitted on any of our altars or platforms”.

The memorandum was directed to all Continental Overseers, Deputy Continental Overseers, Assistant Continental Overseers, and Pastors in charge of Regions/Provinces worldwide.

It reads: “We refer to our memorandum, dated: December 14, 2023, with Ref: RCCG/ADM/OAB/JP/MEMO/14/12/2023 on the above subject matter, and wish to inform you that the General Overseer (Pastor Enoch Adeboye) has issued a further directive that no external preacher, speaker or minister should be permitted on any of our altars or platforms.

“Anyone intending to invite a guest minister, speaker or preacher to their parish must ensure that the individual is a recognised member of the RCCG.”

The memorandum also warned that any minister who violated the directive would face “severe disciplinary measures” and may be relieved of their ministerial duties in the Mission.

But explaining the memorandum, the RCCG Head of Media and Public Relations, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, said the directive was an internal document to ensure that the doctrines of the church were strictly adhered to.

He added that it was not a total ban but a guideline to ensure approvals were obtained before external members could be invited to preach at the church.

Olubiyi said: “It’s supposed to be an internal document. And it’s not a ban per se. It’s just a kind of rule or guideline. What the church is saying is that before any of our branches invites a preacher from another church or another ministry, clearance should be sought.

“Don’t forget that as a church, we have our doctrines, we have our beliefs, we have our practices, and we have to be sure that if anybody outside the fold is coming to preach in any of our places, the authorities have to approve and ensure that the person flows along with our doctrine and our beliefs.

“So, it’s more of the standard maintenance of (the church),” he said.
