Singer-songwriter Simi has explained why she is a feminist, highlighting what the movement is about to her.

The mother of one spoke on feminism during her recent interview on the Tea With Tea podcast hosted by media personality, Taymesan

Simi emphasised the essence of freedom of choice for women, expressing that, as a feminist, her primary goal is to advocate for women’s rights to make choices.

She stressed that the choices should not be influenced by duress, fear, or societal expectations. Adding that the importance of women having the autonomy to genuinely choose their paths in life is paramount.

In her words: “As a feminist, my goal is to fight for the woman’s right to choose not under duress, not out of fear, not because they think that’s what they have to do, but genuinely choose what they do. If you want to be a stay at home mum, let it be your choice. 

“If you want to be the most submissive wife in the world, let it be your choice. If you wanna be a slay mama, let it be your choice …I feel like that’s the only way it’s genuine.”

Singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, said her dream was never to get married to an artist.

The mother of one who is married to fellow singer, Adekunle Gold, revealed this on the latest episode of Tea with Tay posted by media personality Taymesan.

Simi said she did not know Adekunle was a musician when she met him.

She said: “When I first met my husband, I didn’t know he was singing because me I already said I cannot marry a singer. I didn’t know he was singing, I think he was even a fan.”

Simi had stated that even though she didn’t know Adekunle was a musician, they started dating because he “was a really nice guy.”

Singer and songwriter, Simi has advised individuals from other nationalities to avoid engaging in verbal disputes with Nigerians if they lack emotional balance.

She explained why they should refrain from entering into verbal exchanges with Nigerians.

The mother of one highlighted the difficulty for anyone who is not emotionally strong to engage in such exchanges with Nigerians.

According to Simi, Nigerians participating in verbal altercations do so with the primary objective of winning.

She asserted that, given the expressive nature of Nigerians, the only contender in such exchanges is usually another Nigerian.

The singer recalled an incident where someone labelled another person a nympho and questioned if they understood the word’s meaning.

She added that in verbal disputes, a Nigerian who is reluctant to fight would still come out on top.

Simi emphasized that once they finish teasing or mocking you, they would shift their focus to your parents.

Sensational singer, Simi Kosoko, has appealed to family members, urging them to slow down with their demands from their firstborn children.

In a public statement on her X platform, the mother of one called for a pause and some breathing space for firstborns who often find themselves overwhelmed by family demands.

Simisola expressed concern for firstborns who bear a substantial burden of responsibilities, emphasizing that the load can be draining.

Despite being the last born in her own family, she recognizes the silent struggles of many firstborns who may not voice their frustrations.

According to her, she took it upon herself to bring attention to their concerns and advocate for a more understanding and supportive approach from family members.

Her tweet reads: “Y’all need to let your firstborns breathe. They came first does not mean they should carry everybody’s load. Many of them don’t even like you anymore, because when you text them na so so panic attack. They’re just not allowed to say it. Let them breathe.

“Also, firstborn sef learn how to say no and set boundaries. You deserve peace too.”

The Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi Kosoko recently expressed her disappointment with those who publicly support predators.

She announced on her Instagram page that she intends to distance herself from such individuals.

In the now-deleted post, Simi made it clear that she wants nothing to do with people who continue to support predatory behaviour.

Distancing herself from such people, she stated that there comes a time in life when one has to use one’s senses and there is no excuse.

She wrote: “I really want nothing to do with people that continue to support predatory people, especially publicly. There comes a time in life when you have to choose to use your senses. No excuses. And it is personal.”
